Sun Valley man convicted in child sex abuse case gets 435 years in prison
A Sun Valley man convicted on numerous child sex abuse got sentenced on Thursday to 435 years in prison.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says David Moreno will serve the 17 counts consecutively.
The case began after one of the child victims reported the repeated sexual abuse and sexual assaults to a school counselor.

A Washoe County jury has convicted a Sun Valley man on all 19 felony counts in a child sex abuse case, bringing an end to a prosecution that stemmed from a Washoe County Sheriff's Office investigation that began in 2025.
Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced that David Moreno was found guilty of 11 counts of sexual assault on a child under 14, four counts of lewdness with a child under 14, one count of attempted sexual assault on a child under 14, one count of child neglect, one count of incest and one count of dissuading a witness.
The case began after one of the child victims reported the repeated sexual abuse and sexual assaults to a school counselor.
Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office arrested Moreno in April 2025 following an investigation that identified two child victims known to him.
Prosecutors said the crimes occurred over several years. During the trial, the state focused on the credibility of the victims and argued Moreno spent years grooming the children and adults around them.
Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades and Chief Deputy District Attorney Peg Samples prosecuted the case on behalf of the state.
Moreno is scheduled to be sentenced September 24. He faces 15 potential life sentences and up to 450 years in prison if all counts are ordered to run consecutively.

A man facing more than a dozen sexual assault and lewdness charges against a child appeared in a Reno courtroom on Wednesday.
David Moreno pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go to trial next July.
According to court documents, Moreno is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 14 several times between 2017 and 2023.
He is also facing an incest charge in the case.

On September 10th, 2026, the Missing and Exploited Children Task Force arrested Randall R. Robinson (46) for Federal crimes against children.
The Task Force investigation, led by detectives with Spokane Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), along with Washington State Patrol and federal partners, executed federal search warrants and arrested Robinson at his place of employment for violations of Distribution of Child Pornography, Receipt of Child Pornography, and Possession of Child Pornography.
The Southeastern Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force also assisted in this investigation.
Robinson is a Registered Sex Offender with prior convictions for child molestation and possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
An arrest and federal charging decision are not a finding of guilt. The accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Anderson man sentenced to 44 years behind bars for child sexual abuse crimes
ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson man has been sentenced to 44 years and one month in prison for child sexual abuse crimes that occurred in 2024.
Keynan Santos, 44, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child sexual abuse material and committing a felony offense while required to register as a sex offender. On top of the 44-year sentence, Santos is ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to a victim.
According to official court documents, Santos lived with a victim between November and December 2024. In that time, he sexually abused and exploited the child and recorded the abuse, according to the U.S. Department of Justice's release. The victim was reported to be under 12 years old at the time of the crimes.
Santos was caught after Google flagged an upload of child sexual abuse material linked to his account, according to the DOJ's release.
600 images of child sexual abuse materials
During their investigation, investigators found over 600 images of child sexual abuse materials on Santos' devices.
“No child should ever fear the person entrusted with their safety. The defendant’s exploitation of a child in his care is a heartbreaking betrayal of the trust every child deserves at home,” said Tom Wheeler, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “The horrific abuse inflicted on this young victim is unconscionable, and our office will continue to work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to protect children, hold offenders fully accountable, and bring justice to survivors.”
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, which is an initiative launched in 2006 by the DOJ to "combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse," according to the DOJ's release.
This isn't Santos' first conviction. In 2015, he was found guilty on two felony counts of child molesting and was sentenced to eight years in the Indiana Department of Correction and was required to register as a sex offender for life.
“There is no safe harbor for those who prey on children,” said Homeland Security Investigations Chicago Special Agent in Charge Matthew Scarpino. “This sentence reflects the gravity of the defendant’s crimes: those who abuse children, produce child sexual abuse material, or use the internet to continue their crimes will be found, arrested, and held accountable. HSI is proud to stand with our federal, state, and local partners in protecting victims and bringing offenders to justice.”
Life without possibility of parole in child sex abuse trial
Waco, Tx (FOX44) – A 54-year-old Waco man will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole following guilty verdicts in his child sex assault trial.
Rolando Olvera Jr. had been charged with continuous sexual abuse of a young child and sexual assault of a child. He had been accused of repeatedly abusing a young male relative over a period of several years, with the victim making known the abuse after reaching adulthood. In addition to the life sentence on one count, he was also given an additional 20-year sentence.
The three-day trial was held in McLennan County’s 19th District Court and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Will Hix and Chris Spendlove.
District Attorney Josh Tetens described the offenses Olvera had been accused of as “the most horrific acts imaginable” on a child that went on for years while isolating and intimidating the victim into silence.
In a further statement, DA Tetens said:
“With its verdict, the jury spoke loud and clear, not only to this defendant, but also to anyone in our community who seeks sexual gratification from children and then relies on years of silence to shield them from accountability.
While some prosecuting agencies do not aggressively prosecute child sexual abuse cases under these circumstances, the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office does.
I am grateful for our team, including prosecutors, Will Hix and Chris Spendlove, Investigator David Parkinson, Victim Assistance Coordinator Tracy Viladevall, and the Waco Police Department who conducted the investigation.”
