South Carolina rep left family to live with mistress,

wife claims in divorce papers

By Katherine Donlevy, NYPost
Published Sep. 23, 2023, 8:30 p.m. ET

A South Carolina congressman who campaigns as an advocate for “traditional family values” carried out multiple affairs during his 34-year marriage, his wife claimed in divorce papers.

Melody Duncan accused GOP Rep. Jeff Duncan in Friday’s filing of abandoning his family to live with his mistress, who is reportedly a lobbyist in the Washington, D.C. area, according to court documents.

Duncan “admitted this adulterous relationship to many people, including [the couple’s three sons] and members of his staff,” the filing claims.

The 57-year-old conservative allegedly flaunted the affair in front of Melody’s face while purporting to carry on a healthy marriage in front of his constituents while on his re-election campaign trail.

Just last month, Duncan described Melody as a “supportive and loving wife” at his 12th annual Faith and Freedom BBQ — one of the largest annual Republican gatherings in South Carolina that typically draws thousands of people.

Is there a place in Eternity for liars?

Duncan “then left the next day and went directly to the home of his paramour, Liz Williams, in the Washington DC area, where [Melody] is informed and believes he continues to reside,” the findings allege.

Melody Duncan filed for divorce from Rep. Jeff Duncan,
her husband of 34 years.
Congressman Jeff Duncan/Facebook

“[Melody] is informed and believes that [Duncan’s] extramarital relationship(s) is/are widely known in political circles in North Carolina and Washington DC.”

Since then, Duncan allegedly started rumors that his 1988 marriage to Melody was plagued with lovelessness in an effort “to justify the hypocrisy of his public statements and his private actions.”

Duncan allegedly admitted his extramarital affair with Williams to Melody, though the scorned spouse believes there was at least one other woman.

According to the US House’s lobbying disclosure page, there’s a registered lobbying firm called Liz Williams and Co., with seven clients, including Delta Air Lines.

The politician, who has served the state’s 3rd Congressional District since 2011, touts himself as a protector of the nuclear family.

“As a life-long social conservative, I am a strong advocate for life and traditional family values,” he states on his government page.

“The most basic component of our society is the family. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we protect the values that America was founded upon and have made our country great.”

Neither lawyers for Melody nor representatives for Duncan immediately responded to The Post’s request for comment.

The divorce was first reported by the South Carolina Index-Journal.

Russell Brand was grilled by police in 2014 over claims

he sexually assaulted masseuse

By Ronny Reyes, NYPost
Published Sep. 24, 2023, 12:00 p.m. ET

Russell Brand was questioned by police over claims of sexual assault back in 2014, when a masseuse alleged he groped her and made her feel “like a prostitute,” according to a new report.

The embattled British comedian, who is being investigated for allegedly raping four women, had his first known such run in with police nine years ago when an English masseuse said he attacked her at mansion in Oxfordshire, The Sun on Sunday reported.

The masseuse, who was not publicly identified, said she was hired to give Brand a birthday massage valued at more than $600 on June 7, 2014.

When she led him to his massage table at a bathroom suite, the masseuse claimed Brand began touching her “in a sexual way” for about 40 minutes before he was kicked out of the mansion, according to the report.

Russell Brand was accused of raping four women between 2006 and 2013, with more allegations of sexual assault and harassment resurfacing against the British comedian.

She said felt she was treated “like a prostitute,” receiving payment for the massage even though she never gave him one, the Sun reported.

The traumatized woman said she called Thames Valley Police, who went on to grill Brand over the allegations, which he denied, describing the encounter as “friendly but awkward,” according to the report.

Brand also claimed that CCTV footage from the property supported his version of the story that he was not kicked out of the mansion, the Sun said.

The following month, Thames Valley Police informed the masseuse and Brand that they were not pursuing the case, the Sun reported.

Outraged by the police’s decision, the masseuse sought to have the case reviewed by the Independent Office for Police Misconduct.

The Independent Office for Police Misconduct and the Thames Valley Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment Sunday.

Russell Brand sexual assault allegations

Russell Brand was accused of raping, sexually assaulting and abusing four women over the course of seven years from 2006 to 2013.

One woman, identified as “Nadia,” alleged the “Get Him To the Greek” star raped her against the wall of his Los Angeles home in 2012 and that she was treated at a rape crisis center the same day, according to medical records cited by news outlets.

Another accuser, who was 16 at the time and is known only by the pseudonym “Alice”, alleged the then-31-year-old called her “the child” and assaulted her during their “emotionally abusive and controlling” three-month relationship, according to the report.

A woman identified as “Phoebe” claimed he sexually assaulted her at his property in West Hollywood after they met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, according to the Times of London. Brand allegedly trapped her in a bedroom and chased her around before pinning her down and assaulting her.

The star’s ex-girlfriend Jordan Martin made similar accusations in her self-published 2014 book “kNot: Entanglement with a Celebrity.” She claims he sexually assaulted her at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, England, after becoming angry that she had spoken to an ex-boyfriend in 2007.

Pop star Dannii Minogue angrily labeled Russell Brand a “vile predator” as far back as 2006 — accusing him of creeping her out by perving over her “fabulous breasts” and refusing to “take no for an answer.”

Brand denied the allegations in a video on YouTube and X, formerly Twitter, alerting fans to “serious criminal” allegations that he said would be made against him.

“Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute,” Branded shared. “The relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”

While the investigation proceeds, YouTube has suspended Brand from making money on the video streaming site, his pub “Crown Inn,” located in Pishill, Britain, has been temporarily shut down and BBC has formally launched a review into the comedian’s time at the network.

Mother of the Year Candidate > Baby neglected, daughter drowns alone in pool, Mom drinks at bar

..

This year's Mother of the Year so far belongs to Paraguay's Aurelia Salinas, who sold her 3-year-old daughter to be raped and murdered in a trade for crack cocaine. But, I think New York's Erica Baez should come under some consideration.

Bronx girl, 7, drowns in hotel pool while 5-month-old left alone in room

as mom drank at bar: prosecutors

A Bronx mom allegedly let her 7-year-old daughter drown in a hotel pool — while leaving her 5-month-old baby in the room alone — as she downed drinks at the bar, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Erica Baez, 41, is now being held without bail on second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child charges in the Jan. 13, 2022 horror at a Marriott Hotel in Melville.

The tragic girl, Katlyn, died May 1 after spending more than a year on life support, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Baez had been staying at the hotel with her boyfriend, her 5-month-old son and Katlyn when the boyfriend left for work early that day, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.

The mom had asked hotel staff to open the indoor pool around 3:30 p.m. — with workers warning her that no lifeguard was on duty and that she’d have to stay with her child, the DA’s office said.

But Baez instead headed to the hotel bar where she ate and drank an alcoholic cocktail while her daughter played alone in the pool for 30 minutes, prosecutors claimed.

The mother went to check on the child but then left her alone again while she went up to the hotel room to see her infant, who was also alone, the DA’s office claimed.

Baez went for a second cocktail and left the daughter for over 30 minutes before returning to the pool to find the girl “floating lifeless in the pool” the office alleged.

Erica Baez was charged with manslaughter after her 7-year-old daughter died after drowning in a Melville Marriott pool (pictured here) while her mother allegedly drank.

But instead of jumping straight in, Baez took time to take off her shoes and socks and put her phone aside before taking Katlyn out of the water, prosecutors said.

When EMS workers arrived, Baez lied telling them she’d only left the girl for five minutes, the DA’s office said.

The EMTs were able to revive the girl but she was left with irreversible brain damage from the lack of oxygen and was forced to live on a ventilator and feeding tube for two months, prosecutors said.

The little girl died on May 1 after she became septic, the office said.

Baez was arrested on May 15 and charged with second-degree manslaughter and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday.

“The alleged actions of this defendant were selfish, senseless and heartless,” District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement. “We are going to do everything we can to ensure that justice is served for little Katlyn, whose short life ended too soon.”

Baez is due back in court on May 24.

100 suspected sex slaves stopped & turned back
at Scottish airport

© Channel Ten / Getty Images

Almost 100 potential victims of human trafficking have been blocked by Border Force officers at Glasgow Airport and returned to their countries of origin since last November, figures show.

More than 300 men and women were interviewed by Safeguarding and Trafficking (SAT) officers on suspicion of being targets of modern slavery.

Over 80 percent of those interviewed were Romanian and fewer than 50 were men.

The Border Force, which conducted the interviews as part of a crackdown on gangs selling victims into brothels, said many victims had no clue they were destined to be sold into prostitution.

One case was that of an 18-year-old girl who had just left school, had no money on her and was convinced she would be employed at a hotel in Edinburgh.

Gordon Summers, assistant director at Border Force North, said: “This is about safeguarding vulnerable young women, and men, who are being trafficked and exploited as well as protecting the communities people are living in.

“Border Force is working with partners to identify the traffickers and organizers, and looking to flush out those behind the brothels and who sell girls on,” Summer said, according to the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Those who encourage prostitution should also be held to account, he said.

“Those attending brothels are encouraging criminality and exploitation of young women.

“Often these women have been forced into this lifestyle against their will and they are exposed to violence and intimidation by the gangs who brought them here. They are powerless.”

It comes after the National Crime Agency (NCA) recently reported modern slavery is “far more prevalent than previously thought,” as it affects “every large town and city in the country.”

The agency said previous estimates of between 10,000 and 13,000 slaves in the UK are merely the “tip of the iceberg,” as the number of cases is believed to be far higher.

Prime Minister Theresa May pledged in July to give Britain’s battle against modern slavery a £33 million (US$42 million) boost.

Ex-vicar wrote a child sex abuse fantasy
starring himself

Former reverend Paul Battersby collected and catalogued sex abuse images and had shoebox full of children’s clothes
BY NEIL DOCKING

A paedophile ex-vicar who wrote a twisted child sex abuse fantasy featuring himself was today jailed for 20 months.

Former Church of England reverend Paul Battersby downloaded 1,730 indecent images between November 2014 and January 2017. (6th story on link)

Police also seized a shoebox full of children’s clothes when they raided the 68-year-old’s flat in Old Hall Street, Liverpool city centre.

Liverpool Crown Court heard they then discovered disturbing fantasy literature on the persistent sex offender’s computer equipment. Iain Criddle, prosecuting, said: “Perhaps equally worrying, other items were recovered.

“From the defendant’s computer was recovered a fantasy story, which appears to have been penned by him, regarding child abuse. Also recovered from the computer was a document, in which he appears to have recorded the successful search terms that he has used to obtain indecent images. A box full of children’s clothes was also recovered."

“The images, unusually perhaps in a case such as this, have actually been categorised and saved, rather than simply viewed and deleted. It was a collection.”

The dad-of-two and grandfather-of-three, who served in the ministry for 31 years, admitted possessing the child sex abuse pictures. He admitted downloading 121 Category A – the most serious category – plus 132 Category B and 1,474 Category C photographs.

The former Church of England national youth officer also admitted possessing 183 prohibited images of children, plus extreme animal porn.

Battersby was first caught with a horrifying movie of a girl being raped while working as a vicar in April 2007. He was turned in by his wife after his 17-year-old stepson spotted shocking images and videos on the family’s computer.

The pervert, who was then vicar of St Ambrose Church in Leyland, was spared prison at Preston Crown Court in March 2008.

He was handed a 34-week suspended sentence, 200 hours of unpaid work and told to attend a sex offenders’ programme.

Battersby, who taught chemistry in Liverpool before training for the church, then moved into his sister’s home in Bebington, Wirral. But in April that year he bought a laptop and within months was using it to access 160 obscene images using the pseudonym ‘Tanker’.

Officers raided his sister’s home in College Drive in February 2009 and he was jailed for eight months in 2010.

Peter Turner, defending, today said his client had voluntarily sought help for his problems from Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

He said Battersby developed epilepsy after his first convictions and now suffers from serious fits around once a month.

Battersby worked with Amnesty International in Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s, before spells at churches across Lancashire.

Mr Turner said he had a 10-year-old son who died from leukaemia, divorced his first wife in 1995 and split from his second in 2007. Neither of Battersby’s ex-wives or his two other children “have anything to do with him” and he has never met his three grandchildren.

Mr Turner said only his sister, a retired missionary, still supported him, adding: “He has in his own words sinned significantly since then.” He said he was trying to become a member of the Anglican Franciscans and would be “taking vows of chastity and obedience”.

Mr Turner said Battersby - who had destroyed some of his computers with a screwdriver - “relapsed and relapsed” and wanted help.

The judge, Recorder Andrew Long, said support in the community had repeatedly been offered to Battersby, but all efforts had “failed”.

He said: “The references you provided tell of a man with many gifts and accomplishments. Those gifts and accomplishments have been betrayed and undermined by your own sexual appetites."

“There may come a time when those appetites are regarded as some form of illness or addiction. But at the moment they are regarded as a dangerous perversion of normal sexual desire."

“It’s perfectly clear you are unwilling or unable to control the sexual attraction you feel towards children.”

Recorder Long told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and to comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

After-school care worker who confessed to
molesting children attempts suicide
By Janene Pieters

A 27-year-old man suspected of sexually abusing at least two girls at childcare institution Patrou in De Bilt, Netherlands, tried to commit suicide in custody, the Public Prosecutor announced. Bart C. is now in the hospital, NOS reports.

The Prosecutor did not say how he tried to kill himself. The investigation against him continues.

Bart C. was arrested last week after two girls from the same family told their parents that he made them commit sexual acts with him. He confessed to doing so. This happened at the Patrou establishment in Weltevreden in De Bilt, where C. worked as a pedagogical assistant in the after-school department for five years.

More parents with girls attending the same establishment pressed charges against C. after being informed of his arrest. How many is unclear, but a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor said it was less than five.

He should know that suicide is not going to end his guilt and shame; it will just be the beginning of his real suffering.

'That little girl lives inside all of us': Survivor says there's life after sexual abuse

Both Planned Parenthood and Eastern Health Services accepted that a 12 y/o girl consented to sex and made no attempt to verify her 'boyfriend'. She also received a 2nd abortion in Manitoba before confessing to being raped by her step-father, who is now in jail.

Bev Moore-Davis reacts to horrific case of sexual abuse missed by authorities in Newfoundland and Labrador

Bev Moore-Davis was disgusted when she heard the story of a 12-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, given an abortion and then released back into the hands of her abuser. (4th story on link)

But she isn't surprised that abuse like this happens. She's survived it herself.

"As a survivor, I remember being 12. And that little girl lives inside all of us survivors," she says.

'The specifics of this case are different but the story isn't …  History is repeating itself over and over.'
- Bev Moore-Davis, abuse survivor

"The specifics of this case are different but the story isn't. I facilitate a group for adult survivors of child abuse and I hear these stories all the time. History is repeating itself over and over."

Moore-Davis is reacting to an investigative report by the office of the provincial Child and Youth Advocate Jacqueline Lake Kavanagh.

The report outlines how a 12-year-old girl was failed by the social services and health care systems in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Jacqueline Lake Kavanagh, the province's child and youth advocate, speaks to reporters following the release of her investigative report. (John Pike/CBC)

The girl was impregnated by her stepfather and then brought to an Eastern Health facility for an abortion, where she gave a fictitious story about her teenage boyfriend fathering the child. Authorities accepted the tale, gave her an abortion, and sent her home with her abuser.

Later, the stepfather moved the girl and her siblings to Manitoba where the abuse continued and she received a second abortion.

"The system failed this little girl," said Moore-Davis.

We don't know where this victim is now, but Moore-Davis said it is possible to survive — and even thrive — after suffering sexual abuse as a child.

'It's a toxic poison inside that's going to erupt.'
- Bev Moore-Davis

"Set up a support system so you can talk," she said. "That inner victim lives in you and it's a struggle when there are triggers and flashbacks, but at least if there is a support system in place, people around you know when you need help. And therapy is a huge component."

"But for anyone who thinks that they can bury it and it will go away — that's not how it works. It's a toxic poison inside that's going to erupt."

Moore-Davis believes the Child Advocate's latest recommendations are good and that they'll help improve the system, but she's also calling for prevention.

A report released by the province's Child and Youth Advocate revealed details of a 12-year-old girl suffering horrific sexual abuse from her stepfather. (John Pike/CBC)

"Children also need to be trained," she said. "They need to know what constitutes sexual abuse. They need to know that it's wrong and they also need to know that there is a system in place to help them and protect them and support them."

'They have a moral responsibility to speak out. Better to have been wrong then to allow the abuse to continue
- Bev Moore-Davis

Moore-Davis also emphasizes that people in the day-to-day lives of children must protect them.

"These are the people that spend the most time with victims and have the most potential to pick up on the red flags. All too often, we hear of people coming forward after the damage has been done. If an adult suspects a child is being abused, they have a moral responsibility to speak out. Better to have been wrong than to allow the abuse to continue."

She said people told her later in life they suspected something was wrong when she was a child. It's part of what motivated her to found Miles for Smiles, a group that supports abuse survivors.

"Nobody said anything, and we need to break that taboo. We need to be able to talk about it. If the education about abuse had been in school, I would have been better equipped to protect myself. I think it might have made a difference."

‘Michka’ App Fights Child Sex Abuse in Iran

California nonprofit United4Iran is on a mission to build technologies to help Iranian society tackle sexual violence, women’s rights, and other challenges. Its latest app – Michka – takes on child sexual abuse.

Michka is an insect. Her little wings are her private parts. And when someone touches them, Michka becomes confused and needs help understanding what just happened.

The app, part e-book and part video game, is intended to help children and their parents tackle topics that usually are not talked about inside Iran, said United4Iran’s Executive Director Firuzeh Mahmoudi, an Iranian-American.

A screenshot from the game shows Michka talking to its flower, remembering the time when it was happy. (United4Iran)

Michka was created by women’s rights activist Sahar Shams, who experienced sexual abuse as a child and wanted to help children understand and discuss the subject.

Parents often avoid talking about topics that are taboo in Iranian society, such as sexual abuse, said Mahmoudi. Michka helps them begin the conversation.

There are no data available on sexual abuse in Iran, and international organizations are not allowed to study domestic violence in the country, according to the U.S. State Department. In the absence of reliable numbers, United4Iran, founded in 2009 and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, works directly with communities within Iran to survey needs and identify priorities. Then, it runs a contest for developers. Through its IranCubator program, the organization and its partners, which include Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, connect app developers outside Iran with Iranian communities to address those needs.

“We don’t build the apps ourselves,” said Mahmoudi. “We support community leaders and activists in building the apps.

Participating developers and advocates like Shams, the human rights activist, receive financial support and help with design, development, and dissemination. Their apps address human rights, sexual harassment, women’s marriage rights, domestic abuse, and drug addiction.

“The owners of the apps are the community leaders,” said Mahmoudi.

Other apps out of United4Iran include Toranj, which focuses on domestic violence.

“Oftentimes, women think they’re not victims of domestic violence,” she said. So Toranj includes a survey to help women establish a healthier relationship, and find resources for psychological and legal support.

With the Haami app, which takes on drug addiction in Iran, United4Iran provides recovering drug addicts with support to stay on the course to recovery. The app includes resources translated into Persian from Narcotics Anonymous, information about help centers, and motivational sections.

Michka and most of the other apps are available only in Persian on Google Play. The exception is RadiTo, an audio network available in five languages spoken in Iran – Arabic, Azari, Turkish, Balouchi, and Kurdish. The open-source app gives artists, journalists and commentators a secure, censorship-free platform to download and share audio files.

RadiTo has seen somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 installs on the Google Play Store since it launched in April. According to Mahmoudi, Haami was downloaded more than 15,000 times in recent weeks. Michka has seen more than 2,200 installs within a week.

Mahmoudi said United4Iran might expand to Iranian diaspora communities in other countries, such as Egypt or Vietnam. But for now, she said the organization has “traction” in the country and is focused on “improving the lives of those inside Iran.”

“We know our audience,” she said. “And we know the communities. And we help them advocate for what’s important to them.”

British woman gets 10 years in prison for
multiple false rape accusations
By Ray Downs

UPI -- A British woman who made several false rape allegations was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday.

Jemma Beale, 25, claimed she had been sexually assaulted by six men and raped by nine men on four different occasions during a span of three years. Each of the men she accused were strangers, reported The Guardian.

But investigators found that the allegations were false and she was found guilty of four counts of perjury and four counts of perverting the course of justice.

"This trial has revealed, what was then not obvious, that you are a very, very convincing liar and you enjoy being seen as a victim," Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told Beale. "The prosecution described your life as a 'construct of bogus victimhood.'"

Beale's false rape allegations led to serious consequences for her victims.

In 2010, Beale accused Mahad Cassim of rape and he was sentenced to seven years in prison while she received £11,000, or about $14,000, in criminal injuries compensation, reported The Telegraph. In all, Beale's allegations took up 6,400 hours of police time and cost more than £250,000, or about $320,000.

Cassim was released from prison after two years and nine months when he appealed his conviction in 2013 after police found evidence that Beale was lying about her allegations.

Other accusations led to several arrests and one man fled the country while on bail.

Judge Lorraine-Smith chastised Beale for the false allegations and potential negative impact her case could have on real rape victims.

"These false allegations of rape, false allegations which will inevitably be widely publicized, are likely to have the perverse impact of increasing the likelihood of guilty men going free," he said. "Cases such as this bring a real risk that a woman who has been raped or sexually assaulted may not complain to the police for fear of not being believed."

Meanwhile, Beale maintains her innocence.

"Ms. Beale stands by the claims she made in this matter and if she had her time again she would again plead not guilty to these matters and contest the trial," said her attorney, Lawrence Henderson.

Ex-Priest Jailed for Child Sex Abuse Says Boys were 'Out To Get Him'

Miranda Forster - AAP

Former NSW priest John Farrell claimed boys in his old parish of Moree were telling lies and were "out to get him" when he was confronted about child sex abuse allegations, a royal commission has heard.

    Video  1:39

Senior Catholic Church figure Brian Lucas said Father Farrell was defensive and evasive at a 1992 meeting with senior priests, who'd been tasked with persuading Fr Farrell to leave the church.

"(He made) reference to the boys in Moree that he said were all making up lies and telling lies about him, were out to get him and things like that," Fr Lucas told the child sex abuse royal commission on Tuesday.

"I was never sure ... whether it was fantasy or truth. He was just very defensive and evasive was my impression of his demeanour."

Farrell, 62, was jailed this year for a minimum 18 years for 62 child sex offences when he was posted at Moree and Tamworth in the 1980s.

At the time of Farrell's sentencing, Judge Peter Zahra said he was concerned complaints made by Farrell's victims went investigation.????

"The offender was thereby protected from the authorities by those within the church who chose to move the offender rather than inform the authorities," Judge Zahra said.

The royal commission is looking into the response of church authorities when allegations against Farrell first surfaced in 1984.

One former altar boy told how he was repeatedly raped and warned not to tell anyone or he and his family would be killed.

No obligation to protect child parishioners

Just last week a NSW priest admitted he supported Farrell by keeping quiet about sex abuse allegations, conceding he felt no obligation to protect child parishioners.

And yet he uses the title 'Father'.

Armidale priest Bernard Flood worked alongside Farrell at the Moree parish in northern NSW in the early 1980s when a number of complaints about Farrell abusing boys surfaced.

"I didn't think it was appropriate to go repeating the bits and other pieces that I knew," Fr Flood testified at the royal commission.

The commission heard on Tuesday senior priests had two meetings with Fr Farrell to persuade him to apply for laicisation (defrocking).

Fr Farrell had been reluctant to accept a plan to get him out of the church and was concerned about money, as the clergy was his only source of income.

The commission has previously heard Fr Farrell wasn't defrocked until 2005.

The inquiry continues on Wednesday.

Ex-Catholic Priest Admits Seven Charges of Child Sex Abuse

London Monk and care-giver confesses
to child molestation
From BBC London

Philip Temple
Philip Temple was a former social worker and Catholic priest

A former children's home worker and Catholic priest has pleaded guilty to a string of historical child sex abuse charges.

Philip Temple, 66, admitted seven charges committed in the 1970s when he appeared at Woolwich Crown Court.

He pleaded to 20 similar charges and two of perjury at Croydon Crown Court in April.

In all, he admitted abusing 12 boys and one girl while working in south London care homes and a north London church.

He also admitted lying on oath in the 1990s when he was cleared of child sex abuse charges following accusations by a teenage boy from his church.

Timeline of abuse

Christ the King Church, formerly a monastery, in Enfield
Christ the King Church, site of the monastery in Enfield

In the 1970s, Temple worked as a social worker at three south London children's home.

He abused children in each of the homes but gained successive promotions

Eventually made a "housefather" of Rowan House in the Shirley Oaks complex near Croydon

Suspended in 1977 after allegations of sexual offending were made

Became a monk in the Roman Catholic Church in 1981

Ordained a priest in 1987 based at Christ the King Monastery in Cockfosters, north London

Faced trials in 1998 and 1999 after a teenage boy from the church accused him of sexual abuse

The first trial ended without a verdict and the second with an acquittal

Following the trial in 1999, the diocese wanted to have Temple removed. His order set up an internal commission of inquiry

In 2002 the diocese was reassured by the order Temple was not in the UK and would not be returning

In 2015 Temple was arrested and questioned in London after the Metropolitan Police launched a new investigation

At first he denied sexual abuse, but during further police interviews he admitted many of the offences and volunteered the names of more boys he had abused.

A spokesperson for the Catholic Church in England and Wales said that when concerns were raised it was limited in the measures it could take because as a monk he was answerable to the head of his order in Italy rather than the archdiocese here.

But the church said it believes he worked in Christ the King parish between 1999 and 2002 while the commission of inquiry was ongoing, meaning he would have had continued access to children.

The BBC has been told that in recent years Temple spent time at monasteries in Italy and France.

Raymond Stephenson of the Shirley Oaks Survivors Association said: "If Temple had been caught at Shirley Oaks he would not have been able to abuse anyone else."

The BBC is still awaiting comment from Lambeth Council which had responsibility for Shirley Oaks.

The BBC understands the Temple case will now be investigated by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, currently without a chair after the resignation of Dame Lowell Goddard.

Family Values Crusader - Political Suicide Bomber - Suspends Election Campaign

I'm so tired of 'family values' campaigners who are complete hypocrites. It completely undermines any attempt to restore family values to America. Durham is basically a political suicide bomber.

THE GREENVILLE GAZETTE:

SPONSOR OF ANTI-LGBT “BATHROOM BILL” CAUGHT SEXUALLY HARASSING
34 WOMEN – EXPELLED FROM CAPITOL

Smack in the middle of one of the most heated and controversial Presidential election cycles in recent history comes yet another scandal for the Republican party. It seems that one more prominent “GOP” senator has added his name to the eternally expanding list of “family values” champions who have let their pants (and their constituents) down at a crucial moment in their careers.

Sponsor Of Anti-LGBT “Bathroom Bill” Caught Sexually Harassing 34 Women – Expelled From Capitol

Tennessee state Representative Jeremy Durham has added his name to the list of scandal shamed “conservatives” who have campaigned publicly as “family values crusaders” while engaging in all sorts of hanky panky behind closed doors. However, this being the 21st century, it’s getting increasingly harder to keep these kind of secrets safely under wraps. It appears Rep. Durham’s luck has finally run out – and at the worst possible time.

It seems that the recent “transgender bathroom flap” was the spark that burned Jeremy Durham and sealed his fate as a publicly known sexual offender. Rep. Durham recently sponsored a bill, known as House Bill 2414, that would bar transgendered individuals from using the women’s bathroom in public places, such as restaurants, bars, public buildings, etc. This bill would supposedly give protection to women who would otherwise be at serious risk of assault from transgenders and/or men posing as women in order to have easy access to them.

Meanwhile, Durham himself has been literally exiled from his office at the House of Representatives because of harassment charges stemming from 34 different women. The current Speaker of the House, Beth Harwell, had to order Durham’s offices to be moved across the street from the House after these allegations came to her attention. She also ordered Durham’s access to the House itself to be strictly limited in order to minimize the danger that Durham posed to women on the grounds of the property.

This action came in the wake of a public warning issued by Attorney General Herbert Slatery to the effect that Durham posed a “serious risk” to female employees that are employed by Representatives or otherwise work in the building. As a result of these rulings, Durham is severely limited in his movements when inside the building, and is basically chaperoned at every step.

Of course, these aren’t the first allegations that Rep. Durham has faced in his long and infamous career. As was the case for many years, Durham badgered, groped, harassed, and threatened women at will because they were simply too afraid of losing their positions if they took steps to report it. Durham was simply too powerful and had too many connections to back him up if he came under fire for his actions. As a result, although he has been cited many times for his harassment and threats, Durham has never faced a serious backlash – until now.

In the wake of the Bill Cosby case, which has largely been played out in the court of public opinion, Durham may well find himself out of favor with the Washington “Old Boys’ Club” and soon after out of office. The tide of public opinion is turning against “family values” hypocrisy. Even as Durham runs for reelection, he may find that his recent pandering to the public over “transgender hysteria” is the time bomb that will soon blow up in his face.

THE TENNESSEAN:

Durham suspends re-election campaign but won't resign

In a stunning about-face, embattled Republican Jeremy Durham announced Thursday he will suspend his re-election campaign but did not say he is resigning from the legislature.

"The great majority of the anonymous allegations in the AG report are either completely false or taken completely out of context. But there are a handful of interactions in there that are true," Durham said, reading a brief statement at his attorney's office in downtown Nashville.

"And while my best intentions may have been harmless, there were times where my communication was less than professional, and that is something for which I accept full responsibility and for which I apologize."

Durham blasted the investigation and House Speaker Beth Harwell and said he never had any sexual contact or attempted to have sexual contact with any of the women in the report. He refused to answer questions.

Harwell fired back at Durham minutes after the announcement.

“Representative Durham’s denials are insulting to the brave women whose testimony was detailed in the report. Representative Durham needs to make absolutely clear he is not seeking re-election," Harwell said in a statement.

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, who earlier in the day said Durham's conduct made the outgoing senator want to "smack him in the mouth," also slammed Durham for not resigning.

"His actions were beyond disgraceful. Suspending his campaign but refusing to resign is an affront to the women of this state and the taxpayers who pay his salary," Ramsey said.

Cupid Ain't No Angel

Sex offender plays cupid for female American inmates

CBC's iTeam originally contacted Rodney Barras to do a story about his pen pal website for female American convicts, but details about his sexual abuse of children emerged, which shifted the focus of the story.

A Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada man with a history of sexually abusing children says he's been running a dating site for female American inmates to bring joy and love to their lives.

But the mother of an alleged victim of sexual assault, who can't be named because of a publication ban, said Rodney Barras is a "predator" who she believes has other motives.

"I feel that it's a ruse for him to find a back door to get to find a woman that needs help, because she's down on her luck and has children," said the mother, whom we'll refer to as CP.

however he pulled down the website once CBC started asking questions
about his record of sexual abuse against children (CBC)
For just over a year, Barras has been running Babes-Behind-Bars.com out of the basement where he lives in a residential neighbourhood.

The site contains photos of women serving time in prisons across the U.S. It includes details the inmates have provided, such as their crimes, former professions, religion, measurements and how many children they have.

Barras said he doesn't just run the site. He also regularly writes to five or six women that he finds attractive, though he said he has no romantic intentions.

Then why does he only write to the 'attractive' ones?

He said he's just trying to help. "An act of love if you will. It sounds kind of corny, but it is actually true," Barras said.

Babes-Behind-Bars.com catches on

Rodney Barras said he receives about 300 handwritten letters from female
American convicts a week hoping to have their profiles posted to
Babes-Behind-Bars.com. (CBC)
He said at first he received up to 100 handwritten letters from inmates every week, with photos and personal information. But that quickly grew to more than 300.

He doesn't charge for the service. And he said he has invested thousands of dollars to reach out to these women desperate for attention.

Some of those prisoners have been released, and he continues to keep in touch with them.

"When they are released I am like their little safety net," Barras said. "They want to make sure that they have my phone number and my Facebook page."

Babes-behind-bars.com was taken off line after CBC's iTeam started asking Rodney Barras questions about his criminal record.

Mother of alleged victim says Barras a 'predator'

This story is eerily familiar to CP, who said Barras also moved into her life at a time of need, and almost destroyed it.

"Knowing all I know now, he's quite the predator," she told CBC's iTeam.

Back in the mid-'90s, CP was a single mother of two. She was approached by her landlord and asked if she would be willing to rent out a room to Barras.

She said he seemed like "the perfect roommate."

He lived with her for a few months and became a good friend of the family. "He was kind. He didn't drink. He didn't do dope.. He didn't swear. I thought, 'OK, cool.'"

"Like he'd help me with heavy things, go to the store."

She said Rodney also regularly looked after her nine-year-old boy and would sometimes take him for ice cream.

Boy makes troubling allegations

All seemed to be going well until one day her son delivered some troubling news. "He more or less told me that Rodney touched him with his privates," CP said.

She reported the matter to social services, which brought in police.

Following an investigation, Barras was charged with three counts of sexual interference, three counts of sexual assault and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

Barras went to trial and on Dec. 12, 1995, he was acquitted on all charges.

CP said she has no doubt her son was telling the truth, but she said the little boy had a learning disability and was a poor communicator.

For some sick, degenerate predators, the more vulnerable the child, the better.

Despite the verdict, CP is convinced that Barras is a danger to children. And his criminal record appears to bear that out.

Barras has a history of abusing children

Rodney Barras spent six months in a Florida prison in 1993 after he pleaded
'nolo contendere' to lewd and lascivious conduct related
to a little girl. (Pinellas County Sheriff's Office)
Barras has been convicted of sex charges against children in both Canada and the U.S. Toronto police have confirmed that he's still listed as a potential sex offender in their database.

In 1993, he was found guilty of lewd and lascivious conduct related to one little girl in Florida.

Then in 1994, he was convicted of sexually assaulting another girl under 14 years old in Ontario.

In addition, he was charged and acquitted of sexual assault charges relating to two little boys, CP's son in 1995 and another child in 2006.

In his ruling on the 2006 case, Judge Brian Trafford said the little boy's testimony did not rise to the level of beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, he also pointed out that "the court has not found [the boy's] testimony is false in its material particulars. He may be a truthful and reliable witness."

In addition to these charges, Barras was found to have breached court ordered conditions to stay away from children or places where they frequent on three occasions.

Barras says this is a case of mistaken identity

When the iTeam's Geoff Leo showed Rodney Barras his name and birthday
matched a Florida document that said he was guilty of lewd and lascivious
conduct in front of a little girl, he flatly denied he was the same person. (CBC)
When CBC's iTeam asked Barras about his record of sexual offences against children, he argued we had the wrong man.

"A sexual charge against a child. No, absolutely not," Barras said.

When it was pointed out to him that he shared the same first, middle and last name and birthdate with the person convicted of all those sex charges, he continued his denial.

"It is a coincidence. It's wild," Barras said.

But he suggested a simple test to help clear up the confusion. "Get the mug shot," he suggested.

"That'll solve your mystery right there. I guarantee you won't see my picture [because] I've never been in prison."

CBC obtained a mug shot of Barras from the Florida prison system. Barras has aged and put on weight but the photo shows the same facial markings in the same locations on his face and neck.

In an email to CBC, he responded, "If this is the direction the story is going to take, I'm not interested. I thought it would be about the website."

A few hours later, Babes-Behind-Bars.com was wiped from the internet.
