A Houston designer claims she had to cancel a fashion show after her bag full of the custom-made pieces was lost at a Washington DC airport – only for them to seemingly resurface years later being worn by former Department of Energy official Sam Brinton.

Asya Khamsin filed a lost luggage report after her bag containing 30 original designs disappeared from Ronald Reagan Washington Airport in DC on March 9, 2018, meaning she had to pull out of the planned show.

Several years later, the native Tanzanian designer stumbled on photographs of Brinton – who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns – wearing what appeared to be the same original custom dresses.

Speaking from Zanzibar, Khamsin told The Post: “I was thinking, ‘Who took my bag, where is it?’ for a long time. Then I see images of the outfits [being worn by Brinton] and I was so confused and upset.

“I was thinking, where did he get those clothes – because I didn’t think he was a thief.”

Khamsin also posted a series of pictures online showing the disgraced former Department of Energy official wearing elaborate dresses side-by-side with her missing dress designs, which look identical.

Khamsin does not accuse Brinton of stealing the clothes or her luggage from the Washington DC airport, but said she is confused how they ended up in their possession.

Why not? It would be true to his character. But this case suggests that Brinton may be very diligent in choosing which luggage to steal.

The designer explained the dresses and jewelry had originally been displayed at the Lady In Red fashion show she runs in Dar es Salaam and said she was passing through Washington DC to show them on her way home to Houston when her case disappeared. She shared her conversations with officials about the lost luggage with Fox news.

Brinton, 35, served as the Biden administration’s deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy, but was fired after they were charged with stealing a woman’s suitcase from a Minneapolis airport and another woman’s bag from a Las Vegas airport over the summer.

In both cases, Brinton had traveled on flights from Washington DC before allegedly swiping the bags from the airports’ baggage carousels.

After seeing Brinton wearing what she believes is her stolen garb, Khamsin filed a report with the Houston Police Department on Dec. 16. The next month, she claims she was contacted by the agency’s field office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She added: “I don’t know if I would like the clothes back. The investigation is in good hands with the FBI. I’m waiting on them, they will do the right thing.”

Cops are investigating who leaked live-streamed porn images of former NY1 weatherman Erick Adame, according to a report Wednesday.

The Emmy-nominated but now out-of-work meteorologist told WNYC he believes a mystery voyeur became obsessed with distributing nude images of him in an apparent effort to embarrass him.

“I concluded, it’s the same person that is just obsessed with posting these pictures of me,” he said in his first interview since the scandal led to his firing.

“Some of them are so humiliating.”

Adame, 39, has since hired a lawyer to get the IP address of the person who posted the images online.

Police are also probing the leak, the station said, though it was not revealed which department is conducting the investigation.

Adame lives in New Jersey, NY1 is based in Manhattan and his mother, who was sent some of the dirty images, lives upstate.

It was also unclear what law enforcement could do, as the images may not qualify as “revenge porn,” the radio station reported.

Under New York law, a person must have a “reasonable expectation of privacy,” and live-streaming may not be protected.

The ex-weatherman was fired in September after images of him live-streaming sex acts were taken from an adult website without his permission.

It soon emerged that he mentioned his job and other personal details during a camming session made in December 2021.

Adame apologized and admitted that he had a “compulsion,” saying it was “absurd of me to think I could keep this private.”

Proud, or embarrassed for being gay?

Since his embarrassing public firing, Adame told WNYC he has been harassed by sadistic trolls online.

“There is a mixture of support and then you’d have this random message calling me whatever name to degrade me and then saying you want some more? I can be your daddy,” he said.

“You know —no. I just lost this job that I really loved. I’m being publicly humiliated and you think I enjoy this?”

He also opened up about the root of his compulsion to make live sex videos for strangers on the internet, confessing it stemmed from  “low self-esteem” from being rejected for being gay.

Is that really his reason, or his excuse? It's hard to imagine someone being on TV every day has low self-esteem. The sex videos suggest he was more likely proud of his gayness. 

“Showing off and getting that type of praise and being called sexy, I wanted to see more. Hearing that from someone on the other end made you feel so good,” he said.

Now, he says, he’s in a committed relationship and that his sex life no longer involves the internet.

Ultimately he said he regrets camming while hedging on whether he thinks his firing was fair. 

“I don’t apologize for being sex positive — but I apologize because I am a role model, ” he said. “What it comes to is, as a news person, I live under different rules. I don’t think that’s fair, but I think that we do.”

It's the first time I have encountered that term - sex-positive! I don't know what it means, but I suspect it is not something good.

child sexual abuse charges

A former local television weatherman has been indicted this week on child sexual abuse charges involving three under-aged girls.

The Richmond County grand jury indicted Kevin Andrew Niewood, 27, on Tuesday on four counts of solicitation for sexual conduct with a child, three counts sexual exploitation of a minor and a single count of electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor. Niewood, who worked for WJBF–News Channel 6, has been held without bond since his Oct. 7 arrest.

The television station said Thursday that Niewood has not worked there since October.

According to the indictment, Niewood is accused of using a computer online service to seduce, solicit, lure and entice an under-aged girl by requesting she take nude photographs of herself on Feb. 22 and to perform a sex act for him March 26. The third count of the indictments accuses Niewood of asking a second underage girl to take nude photographs of herself and then send them to him on April 14. He is accused of doing the same to a third underage girl between Dec. 1, 2015, and April 30.

The three counts of sexual exploitation accuses Niewood of possessing pornographic images of his first victim on Oct. 10. The final count of the indictment accuses Niewood of electronically furnishing the first victim a picture of his penis between Feb. 20 and March 26.

The case has been assigned to Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. Niewood should be arraigned in Richmond County Superior Court on Jan. 13.

A Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 30 years of probation for sexually abusing a young girl.

Bernard Homan was convicted in August of five counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg says evidence presented at trial showed Homan had sexual contact with the girl and exposed himself to her.

Sandburg says the girl was between the ages of 9 and 10 when the abuse occurred.

Anthony "Tony" Michael Durham, accused of sexually molesting two juvenile victims over the course of four years, will die in prison for his crimes.

Durham, 67, a former Lompoc Police volunteer, CHP officer and ex-interim city councilman, pleaded guilty to 17 counts of child molestation in Lompoc Superior Court Thursday morning and faces a sentence of 45 years to life.

Durham was charged in September 2016 with 14 counts of sexual contact with a child 10 years of age or younger, and three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 10.

Durham will be sentenced Feb. 23 at the Lompoc Superior Court before Judge Rogelio Flores. He will be eligible for parole after he completes 45 years of his prison sentence. 

How silly is that; he will be 112 after 45 years!

He was initially arrested Sept. 18, 2016, and the news shocked many in the Lompoc community, where Durham was selected as the Lompoc Valley Man of the Year by the Lompoc Chamber in 2008, and was nominated for the Valley of Flowers Peace Prize in 2012. 

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office says that his crimes involve two young victims, named only as Jane Doe No. 1 and Jane Doe No. 2.

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A correctional officer at a juvenile detention center has been arrested in connection with child sexual abuse.

Stephen Basham, 37, of Scarbro is charged with use of a minor child to produce obscene matter.

He is also charged with criminal invasion of privacy and possession of child erotica.

Basham was working at the Gene Spaaro Juvenile Detention Center in Mount Hope.

According to the administrator of the center, Basham has been relieved of his duties pending the outcome of the case.

There is no indication Basham had unsupervised contact with any of the juvenile detainees being housed at the center, according to a release.

"Keeping our children safe from sexual predators is one of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Mike Fridley. "Any reports filed with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office concerning the alleged physical or sexual abuse of children will be carefully and thoroughly investigated, and anyone who harms one of our kids will be held accountable for his or her actions."

Basham has been released after posting bond.

The case remains under investigation.

An Indianola woman was sentenced Thursday to up to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls in Davenport.

April Mae Lincoln, 29, must serve 70 percent — or 17.5 years — of the sentence before she is eligible for parole.

She pleaded guilty in September in Scott County District Court to two counts of felony second-degree sexual abuse, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

On March 17, the Indianola Police Department received a complaint claiming sexual abuse, according to arrest affidavits filed by the Davenport Police Department.

Lincoln and co-defendant Christopher James Myers, 31, repeatedly sexually abused the girls, ages 6 and 7, while they were staying in the 100 block of South Howell Street in Davenport, according to the arrest affidavits.

The couple then told the girls not to tell anyone about what was happening, according to the arrest affidavits.

According to Scott County District Court electronic records, the abuse began taking place in 2013.

Lincoln's attorney, public defender Derek Jones, urged District Court Judge Joel Barrows to accept the plea agreement, which called for the sentences to run at the same time, and noted that Lincoln herself had been abused in the past. 

He argued that Lincoln “owned up” to what she had done when speaking to investigators and agreed to cooperate against Myers, who has a change-of-plea hearing scheduled for Jan. 13.

LIVERMORE FALLS -- Livermore Falls police say a child sex abuse suspect jumped out of a second floor window when police showed up.

28-year-old Isaac Bryant is accused of unlawful sexual contact with a child under the age of 16.

Investigators say they got a complaint from the victim's parents.

When officers went to the victim's house to investigate, Bryant, who is described as a transient, was there.

They say he jumped out of a window and ran off.

Officers say they found the suspect in an ambulance, where he was being treated for injuries from the jump.

He's now being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

Kaysville man extradited from Mexico sentenced to prison for child sex abuse

FARMINGTON — A Kaysville man extradited from Mexico was sentenced Thursday to serve two terms of three years to life at the Utah State Prison for child sex abuse charges.

Troy Richard Haynes, 52, appeared before Judge Thomas L. Kay for a sentencing hearing on Thursday, Jan. 5. 

Kay rendered the consecutive sentences after hearing from Haynes, his parents and from the two victims. Both victims were younger than 14 when the abuse happened and are now adults.

"This didn't just happen to one person, but two people," Kay said. "It happened multiple, multiple times.”

Haynes admitted in a court document filed Sept. 8, 2016, to touching the genitalia of two girls younger than 14 years old from January 1998 to December 2003, according to the probable cause statement filed with the 2nd District Court in 2011.

He pleaded guilty on that date to two counts of attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, first-degree felonies. In exchange for the guilty pleas, prosecutors dismissed six of the original charges. 

Haynes read a statement in court apologizing to his parents, as well as his wife and two daughters, who live in Mexico. Initially, he did not apologize to the victims but did so after Deputy Davis County Attorney Susan Hunt pointed out his failure to do so.

Hunt asked for consecutive sentences because she said Haynes had not taken responsibility for what he did, saying he told an investigator that both women were “crazy.” 

Haynes said in court that he did not sexually abuse the victims “hundreds of times” liked they claimed. He said his actions of 18 years ago “are abhorrent” and that he was a changed man.

“I meant them no harm,” he said.

What you meant and what you did are two different things. But, in reality, you didn't care if it was harming them or not, and you still don't.

Haynes’ parents, both in their 80s, said in court they would be willing to have Haynes live with them if Kay sentenced him to probation. Both said Haynes loves his family and is hard-working. 

Both women said when the abuse started, they didn’t know what was happening because they were young. When they became teenagers they both turned to drugs and alcohol to deal with the pain, they both said.

When teenagers, they told an adult what happened but did not go to police due to pressure from Haynes’ parents, the victims said in court.

Both said they were in their early 20s they disclosed the abuse to police because Haynes had married and his wife was expecting a girl. 

Both women said they have had suicidal thoughts because they didn’t like themselves and have undergone counseling.

The Davis County Attorney’s Office filed charges against Haynes on March 11, 2011, when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Layton police learned in 2014 that Haynes was living in Mexico. Police said in July the extradition process took a long time to complete. Layton police, along with the Davis County Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Office, worked with Mexican authorities to have Haynes brought to Utah.

Layton police booked Haynes in the Davis County Jail on July 11, 2016, where he has been held without bail since his arrest.
