Oxford grooming gang jailed for life
The three plied lonely, friendless 14-year-old girl with drink and drugs
before raping her when she was comatose
By JOEL ADAMS FOR MAILONLINEA gang of three man who groomed and raped a vulnerable schoolgirl in a horrific campaign of child sex abuse have been jailed for life.
Mohammed Karrar, Bassam Karrar and Anjum Dogar befriended the 'lonely, friendless' 14-year-old girl and began grooming their victim by taking her to parties and giving her alcohol and drugs before making demands for sexual acts.
Is there any chance these three sickos are of Pakistani and Muslim origin? Gosh, what a surprise that would be!
The victim was so vulnerable - and so deceived that the men were her friends - she felt unable to refuse their demands. She did not recognise their treatment as abusive, as a result of their insidious and long-running grooming campaign.

Anjum Dogar, 36, from Oxford, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 20 years for one count of indecent assault and three counts of conspiracy to rape
Police said their predatory behaviour in Oxford came to an horrific head when the men put the victim in a state of being comatose, using a cocktail of drugs and drink at a party.
She woke up with terrible injuries and realised that she had been viciously attacked and raped by the gang, a police spokesman said. To her horror, she later discovered that she had become pregnant as a result of the attack and had an abortion.
The gang carried out their abuse between 2002 and 2005. At the time their vulnerable victim was aged between 14 and 16.
But in 2015 she disclosed her ordeal to a social worker and was then contacted by Thames Valley Police, who made a number of arrests following warrants in Oxford in 2016.
A jury took just five hours and three minutes to find them all guilty by a unanimous verdict, following their trial at Oxford Crown Court which ended in December.
Bassam Karrar, 39, from Oxford, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 10 years, for one count of indecent assault and one count of rape
At the court today Judge Peter Ross handed down life sentences against each of them for the horrific campaign and sexual abuse.
Mohammed Karrar, 44, from Oxford, was sentenced to life imprisonment - to serve a minimum of 18 years - for three counts of indecent assault, one count of rape and one count of conspiracy to rape.
Bassam Karrar, 39, from Oxford, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 10 years, for one count of indecent assault and one count of rape.
Dogar, 36, from Oxford, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 20 years for one count of indecent assault and three counts of conspiracy to rape.
Senior investigating officer Mark Glover, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: 'These men's behaviour was predatory, callous and designed purely to sexually exploit a vulnerable teenage girl.
'She put her trust in them at a time when she felt lonely and friendless. These men pretended to be her friends when in fact they only wanted to subject her to sexual abuse.
Mohammed Karrar, 44, from Oxford, was sentenced to life imprisonment - to serve a minimum of 18 years - for three counts of indecent assault, one count of rape and one count of conspiracy to rape
'Their grooming of her was so elaborate that the victim did not realise that she had been groomed until many years later. It is thanks to her courage in talking to police officers and giving evidence during the trial, that these men have been sentenced for their crimes.
'I know the effect that their actions have had on the victim, and the effect they continue to have on her life and relationships. I hope that their sentencing will help her to continue to move on her with her life.
'Grooming and sexual abuse destroys lives. If you have been a victim of abuse, even if it did not happen recently, please come forward and report it. Thames Valley Police will always take your reports seriously, will offer you support and will carry out investigations wherever possible in order to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.'
An NSPCC spokesman said: 'These men subjected a vulnerable young girl to a campaign of vile abuse but her tremendous courage has helped unveil the extent of their abhorrent crimes and ensured they spend longer behind bars where they cannot harm other children.
'It's vital that she receives continued help and that all victims of sexual abuse know it is never their fault and that they will be supported when they speak out against the perpetrators.
'We must all be vigilant to the signs of grooming and act on our concerns by contacting the police or the NSPCC Helpline for advice.'
New Zealand trial under way for man accused of
sexually abusing a girl for 8 years
Joanne Carroll, StuffA man is facing a jury trial for sex offences over eight years from when a girl was aged 12.
The 35-year-old man was arrested on three charges of doing an indecent act on a person under 16. He is also facing four charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, one of assault with intent to commit sexual violation and one of attempted sexual violation.
The man's name and all identifying particulars have been suppressed by Judge Stephen O'Driscoll until the end of the trial at the Greymouth District Court.
It is alleged the offending happened on the West Coast between March 7, 2005, and March, 6, 2013.
The indecent act charges are alleged to have happened when the girl was aged between 12 and 15, and the man was 21. Two of the charges are representative, meaning the indecent assaults are alleged to have happened numerous times.
The sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, assault with intent and attempted sexual violation are alleged to have happened when she was aged between 17 and 19.
Crown prosecutor Mitchell McClenaghan told the jury in his opening address the man began grooming and sexually touching the girl when she was 12.
The sexual offending escalated after the girl turned 18, when the man tried to have sex with her on two occasions. On the last occasion she pushed the man and punched him in the face before he stopped. She laid a complaint with the police three years later.
Defence counsel Marcus Zintl said the man, who was married at the time, had a consensual intimate relationship with the woman after she turned 17. The woman was not honest, credible or reliable, he said. She had exaggerated or made up the allegations because she was motivated by revenge, jealousy and resentment, Zintl said.
The trial before a jury of six men and six women will continue until Thursday.
West Coast, NZ
N.Z. man jailed for three years for
sexual abuse of two young girls
New Plymouth, NZ
Deena Coster, Stuff"I wanted it to stop but I didn't know how."
This was how one of Stephen Allan Jordan's two victims felt during his sexual abuse of her, something she endured as a young child.
Her mother read out the girl's victim impact statement in the New Plymouth District Court on Tuesday, at Jordan's sentencing hearing.
Jordan previously pleaded guilty to six charges, one of unlawful sexual connection, two of indecent assault and three charges of doing an indecent act
The offending, which took place in New Plymouth and Stratford, impacted on the lives of two young girls, both under 12, during two distinct time periods.
The first victim was abused between February 1999 to June 2005 and the second between December 2016 and June 2018.
During her mother's address to the court, Jordan's most recent victim said she felt "sad and very uncomfortable" about what happened to her.
The girl said she felt she was angrier now and did things she could not always explain. An example she gave the court was after she had a dream about the abuse, she ripped up a toy unicorn which was on her bed.
The girl's mother also told the court how she felt when she found out about what Jordan had done. "This broke my heart and tore everything to pieces."
Prosecutor Cherie Clarke described the offending as "predatory sexual conduct" and that it was premeditated to a degree.
A final jail term of between four years, three months and five years was sought by Clarke.
Defence lawyer Susan Hughes QC said Jordan had admitted his guilt at an early opportunity and was remorseful for what he had done.
She said he often cried when they spoke about the offending and he was willing to apologise to the victims. "He is at a loss to explain why he has offended in this way." She said Jordan had no recollection of the offending but accepted the victims were truthful in their accounts.
After taking into account Jordan's guilty pleas, remorse and previous good character, Hughes QC said a final term of imprisonment of two years and five months was appropriate.
Judge Gregory Hikaka said the indecent assaults involved Jordan placing the girls' hand on his genitals, touching their genitals and pulling down one of the child's underwear.
The most serious charge of unlawful sexual connection, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, involved Jordan telling one of the victims to kiss his genitals.
The judge said the aggravating factors in the case included the vulnerability of the victims, the extent of harm caused to them and the breach of trust involved which also reflected the age difference between Jordan and the girls he targeted.
Jordan is now 58 and both girls were under the age of 12 when they were abused.
"They have been significantly impacted by your offending," the judge said.
In calculating the defendant's final sentence, Hikaka gave Jordan a full 25 per cent discount for his guilty pleas, along with a further 10 per cent for his remorse and the steps taken to address the offending, which included voluntary counselling.
Jordan was jailed for three years and his name will be added to the child sex offenders register.
The court heard how a strike warning was previously issued against Jordan and that a restorative justice meeting was likely to happen between him and one of his victims while in prison.
Indian ‘fortune teller’ charged with child sexual assault after allegedly offering teen girl free reading in Sydney
AAPThe West Australian
An Indian man claiming to be a fortune teller has been accused of sexually assaulting a young girl after offering her a free reading in Sydney’s south west.
The 31-year-old was arrested at Sydney International Airport on Monday night after he was caught trying to board a plane to Singapore.
It’s alleged he approached a 14-year-old girl and offered her free fortune telling services before sexually assaulting her inside a business in Liverpool on Sunday.
Police spoke to the man and searched the premises on Sunday, before charging him with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 16 and three counts of aggravated sexual assault on a victim under 16.
The alleged offender — an Indian national — was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court on Tuesday.
British IRA agent, Stakeknife - Freddie Scappaticci,
faces child sex abuse lawsuit
Connla Young, The Irish NewsA BELFAST woman is suing British agent Freddie Scappaticci for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a child.
Freddie Scappaticci pictured at an IRA funeral in 1987
Court papers seen by The Irish News reveal that the IRA member is accused of assaulting the woman between 1976 and 1978. She is claiming for personal injury, loss and damages.
The woman is believed to have been a teenager at the time. It is understood the allegations were reported to police.
A PSNI spokesman said: “We do not comment on named individuals and no inference should be drawn from this.”
Details of the court action come just weeks after Scappaticci, who is believed to be the agent Stakeknife, was convicted of possessing extreme pornographic material in a London court.
The woman is also claiming damages from the PSNI chief constable and the secretary of state for the Home Department, which has responsibility for the Home Office.
Although Stakeknife is believed to have been handled by the British army, police and MI5 may also have had knowledge of his role.
The claim against the chief constable is for personal injury, loss and damages by negligence and misfeasance in public office in causing or permitting the abuse. The woman is also claiming on the grounds that police failed to investigate the abuse.
It is claimed that Scappaticci was a key member of the IRA’s internal security unit and was involved in interrogating dozens of suspected informers, some of whom were later killed.
Before Christmas, Scappaticci pleaded guilty to possessing disturbing images. Westminster Magistrates Court heard that the charges related to at least 329 images, many involving animals.
Officers from Operation Kenova – set up to investigate Stakeknife – discovered images after seizing a laptop which was on a living room coffee table when they searched Scappaticci’s home last January.
Prosecution papers obtained by The Irish News revealed that Scappaticci had a history of depression and had tried to take his own life.
He later claimed he viewed extreme pornography because he was feeling depressed and suicidal.
And that was supposed to make him feel better? Good grief!
The woman’s solicitor, Kevin Winters of KRW Law, said: “As this case touches upon matters of huge sensitivity it wouldn’t be appropriate to go into any detail or comment other than to confirm the High Court action forms part of a wider series of themed litigation against the state and other parties.”
Police chief resigns after two female officers make accusations of inappropriate behaviour against him
Martin Evans, crime correspondent Robert Mendick, chief reporter
The Telegraph
The chief constable in charge of the disastrous Edward Heath sex abuse inquiry has resigned in disgrace less than a year into his new job amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards two female officers.
Mike Veale quit “with immediate effect” after being accused of serious misconduct just ten months after taking up his new post as head of Cleveland, UK, Police.
His resignation on Friday came 24 hours after complaints of serious misconduct had been referred to the watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Sources have told the Telegraph that allegations were made by two female officers and passed to Barry Coppinger, Cleveland’s Police and Crime Commissioner, before Christmas. Mr Coppinger in turn referred the claims to the IOPC.
Sources have said Mr Veale is accused of inappropriate behaviour towards the two women.
The resignation marks the end of Mr Veale’s policing career which has been dogged by controversy since overseeing Wiltshire Police’s £1.5 million inquiry into child sexual abuse claims against Edward Heath. The two-year investigation found no evidence against Heath while his chief accuser turned out to be a serial paedophile and fantasist currently serving a lengthy jail term.
Mr Veale’s contract with Wiltshire Police was not renewed and he stepped down from that role to take up the job at Cleveland on a £155,000 salary.
In September, a separate IOPC investigation found he had lied over how his mobile phone had been smashed while he was still in charge at Wiltshire. The IOPC found he misled colleagues, but cleared him of causing damage “deliberately or with the motive to conceal any information”.
In announcing Mr Veale’s resignation yesterday, Cleveland’s Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger said in a statement: “My office has been made aware of allegations about the behaviour of Chief Constable Mike Veale. On Friday 18th January Mr Veale resigned with immediate effect.
“Due to the serious nature of the allegations, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
In a subsequent press conference, Mr Coppinger refused to reveal the nature of the complaints but said the concerns about Mr Veale’s behaviour were deemed serious enough to be referred to the IOPC. The complaints were made during his time at Cleveland.
Asked whether Mr Veale may have been dismissed had he not resigned, he declined to comment.
Mr Veale's predecessor Iain Spittal retired in December 2017 after two years in charge. He had replaced Jacqui Cheer, who was chief constable for five years, having stepped in when her predecessor Sean Price was sacked for misconduct in 2012.
Mr Coppinger also rejected calls for his own resignation - despite his force having five Chief Constables in just over six years.
Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor, posted on Twitter: “If ever there was a demonstration of how inept and useless PCC Barry Coppinger is, this is it. Our frontline officers and the public deserve better. Barry should resign immediately. What a shower.”
Simon Clarke, Conservative MP for Middlesborough South and East Cleveland, said: “This is now the second chief constable to resign in my 18 months as a local MP. These allegations are extremely concerning. I think we now need a root-and-branch review of the future of policing in Cleveland, with all options on the table.”
Andy McDonald, Labour MP for Middlesborough, said: “I don’t know the details of these allegations. Clearly they are of sufficient severity to warrant his resignation.”
An IOPC spokesman said: “We are assessing the information we have received to decide what further action is required. ”
Cleveland announced that Humberside’s chief constable Lee Freeman announced will take temporary charge of the force.
Probe into the broken mobile phone
An investigation into Mike Veale's actions was launched in November 2017 after an anonymous letter was sent to the police watchdog, alleging he had deliberately damaged his phone to hide evidence of leaks to the media about the investigation, codenamed, Operation Conifer.
Mr Veale described the suggestion as "nonsensical" insisting he would not have damaged his own phone deliberately as he needed it.
He told IOPC investigators: "The damage was caused to my phone as a result of me taking out my frustration with my poor play on my bag."
He explained that he had lied to colleagues about the incident because he was ashamed of losing his temper.
Mr Veale said: "I was not proud of my behaviour on the golf course, particularly as a Chief Constable and leader of the organisation, hence the reason I decided to provide a different explanation for the damage.”
The IOPC concluded there was no evidence that he had deliberately damaged his own phone to hide evidence and pointed to the fact that he had subsequently asked his IT department to retrieve all the data from the device.
Responding to the IOPC's findings, Mr Veale apologised for lying to colleagues, but insisted he had been out of a sense of embarrassment rather than anything more sinister.
He explained: "During the course of this investigation I have had the opportunity to reflect on my actions. The account I gave to some colleagues should not have been given.
"My reasons were clear to me then and are now. I wanted to avoid unnecessary, sensationalist coverage in the media. I regret that I gave any account at all as to why the damage was caused as there was no reason to do so as this was simple an accident.
"This was a mistake and I could have handled it differently...I want to take this opportunity to apologise for not handling this matter differently."
Mike Veale and the Sir Edward Heath investigation
Mike Veale came in for criticism after spending two years and £1.5 million investigating historic claims against Sir Edward, despite the fact he had been dead for more than a decade.
A report, published in October 2017 concluded that Sir Edward would have been questioned over allegations that he raped and indecently assaulted boys as young as 10 were he alive today.
But the late former Prime Minister's supporters dismissed the report as a "whitewash" that would leave a stain hanging over his reputation and legacy.
The Telegraph later discovered that the main complainant against Sir Edward was a serial paedophile who is currently in jail for child sex offences and whose own family have dismissed his allegations as "fantasy and lies".
Responding last year to the fallout of the Ted Heath investigation, Mr Veale blamed the media for his actions for placing him under "intense pressure", despite admitting lying.
He also suggested he had been the target of a vexatious campaign to destroy his reputation for spearheading the two year investigation into allegations of historic abuse against the late former Tory leader.
Sir Edward Heath
He said at the time: "It is important to emphasise that during the time I led the Force through Operation Conifer, a highly politicised and nationally significant and sensitive investigation, I was regularly warned by close confidantes and members of the public I would be subject at some stage to vexatious and false allegations to tarnish my reputation. Sadly this has been the case."
Lincoln Seligman, Sir Edward's godson, said: "I have every sympathy with Mr Veale’s golf bag rage but I have no sympathy with his suggestion of a widespread conspiracy to blacken his reputation.
“Under his leadership Wiltshire police publicly invited and then implicitly endorsed the most serious of allegations against a former Prime Minister without adducing any credible evidence in corroboration. This, without any help from outside, will not have done his reputation much good.”
Mr Veale was appointed Chief Constable of Cleveland Police in January this year (last year, I think) before he was aware of the IOPC investigation.

Navajo man sentenced to 18 years for federal
child sex abuse conviction
By Navajo-Hopi Observer
ALBUQUERQUE — Patrick Begay, 43, a member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Churchrock, New Mexico, was sentenced Aug. 8 in federal court in Albuquerque, New Mexico to 216 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his conviction on an abusive sexual contact charge.
Begay will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Begay was arrested in November 2016 on a four-count indictment charging him with sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 years from November 2013 through December 2015, and engaging in sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 years on January 6, 2016. Begay committed the offenses on the Navajo Indian Reservation in McKinley County, New Mexico.
On March 17, Begay pled guilty to count 4 of the indictment charging him with abusive sexual contact with a child. In entering the guilty plea, Begay admitted that on January 6, 2016, he engaged in sexual contact with the victim, who was then nine-years old. Begay further admitted that he repeatedly sexually abused the victim from the time she was seven-years old.
This case was investigated by the Gallup office of the FBI and the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall prosecuted this case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
More information about Project Safe Childhood is available at http://www.justice.gov/psc/.

Former Oklahoma minister sentenced in
child pornography case
TURLEY, Okla. – A former Oklahoma minister will spend the next four years in prison after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge.
On May 9, Ronald Robinson pleaded guilty to one count of accessing with intent to view child pornography on a website.
Robinson was arrested after he allegedly watched child pornography that was live streamed on a website. Investigators say they didn’t find child pornography on his home computer, but did find logs that linked him to chat room activity involving child pornography.
Agents say Robsinson, who was a minister in Turley at the time, made comments about raping a child and responded to a comment about killing a child after sexual abuse.
According to FOX 23, Robinson allegedly admitted to fantasizing about hurting children but never acted on those fantasies.
Robinson’s attorney, Scott Graham, told the Tulsa World that “there is nothing illegal with what he was typing,” adding that Robinson was using his creative writing as a way to “exorcise some of his demons.”
He's a minister! He's trying to exorcise his demons by sharing his demonic thoughts with like-minded perverts? He should try having a relationship with Jesus Christ rather than fellow pedophiles.
Robinson was sentenced to 57 months in prison related to the charges.

Waco man gets 35 years in child sex abuse
By TOMMY WITHERSPOON
A Waco man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Tuesday for sexually assaulting two young sisters in 2013.
Roman Beltran, 27, pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of indecency with a child by contact in a plea bargain with prosecutors.
Judge Ralph Strother of Waco's 19th State District Court sentenced Beltran to five 35-year prison terms plus three 20-year terms. Beltran will serve the sentences concurrently, meaning he must serve a minimum of 17½ years before he can seek parole.
Wait a minute! 4 terms adding up to 95 years and he gets to ask for parole in 17.5? Sweet deal, for the pervert!
According to court records, Beltran sexually assaulted the young girls beginning when they were 5 and 4 in May 2013.
Good grief! Why should this man ever see the light of day again?
In victim-impact statements Tuesday, both girls said they were scared of him and continue to have nightmares about him sneaking into their rooms at night. The younger girl said she pulls her hair out every day from the effects of the abuse.
"If I was a judge, I would leave you in prison for the rest of your life so you won't hurt me again," she said.
If you had a decent judge and prosecutor, that's exactly what would have happened. Britain has a law where anyone can challenge a sentence given to a convict. If these girls had any real advocates this sentence would be challenged.
The older girl said she has trouble trusting people now. "I hate you because you made me feel this way," she said.
Homeless man accused of child sex abuse
hangs self in jail
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi authorities say a homeless man convicted in Mississippi and Louisiana of sexually abusing children has hanged himself in jail.
Coastal news media report that 28-year-old Jared Anthony Epperson was found hanging by bed sheets in his cell after being served lunch on Friday in the Harrison County jail.
A news release said guards performed CPR and brought back a pulse, but he died in a hospital.
The Sun Herald reports that Epperson had been convicted in 2008 of indecent behavior with a juvenile in Lafayette, Louisiana, and in 2009 of sexual battery and touching a child for lustful purposes in Harrison County.
He was arrested July 27 for violating state probation and was serving five years in the Harrison County jail on that charge.
Judge orders Okla. teacher who admitted to sex with 15-year-old student to pay $1 million
BY CAITLYN HITT
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
A former Okla. Teacher will have to pay for her crimes…literally.
According to The Oklahoman, Jennifer Caswell, currently serving 10 years in prison for having sex with a 15-year-old student in 2015, has been ordered to fork over $1 million in damages to her victim.
The publication reports that the disgraced former middle school English teacher doesn't have the money to pay the judgement. It's unclear how that will affect her sentence.
The payout is a result of a lawsuit filed on behalf of the victim and his father. Judge Robin J. Cauthron, who presided over the case, ruled that Caswell caused the child intentional emotional distress, the report states.
Cauthron said in her judgement obtained by that paper that the boy, whose name is being withheld due to the nature of Caswell's crimes, has experienced "depression, isolation, and self-blame" in the wake of his intimate relationship with his former teacher.
"He experienced humiliation when members of his community publicly chastised him and when strangers recognized him and questioned him about the scandal," she wrote, according to the Oklahoman.
The victim's lawyer, Bob Wyatt, told the newspaper he and his clients are thrilled with Cauthron's ruling.
"We are pleased that the judge considered the outrageous behavior of the teacher and are pleased with the fact that the judge sent a message to teachers and schools across the state of Oklahoma that sexual abuse of a child by a teacher will not be condoned," he said.
The boy and his family previously received payment from Hollis Public Schools, where Caswell was employed, in the amount of $125,000. School officials were accused of having attempted to cover up the abuse the pupil suffered.
The lawsuit revealed that the school agreed to allow Caswell to keep her teaching credentials if she resigned from her position. She did so in April 2014.
Additionally, the victim's father alleged in the filing that Hollis Public Schools employees failed to report his son's abuse to police after two separate witnesses saw her and the child having sex in a classroom.
The school district opted to settle with the family, the paper reported.
Andy Fugitt, the lawyer chosen to represent the school, told The Oklahoman school officials had chosen to maintain the position that the situation was correctly handled.
"The district's overall position is that they acted appropriately once they were aware of the issue," he said.
But they settled for $125k anyway. Just out of the goodness of their hearts. Can't anyone be honest anymore?
Caswell pleaded guilty to six counts of second-degree rape, child enticement and forcible sodomy in June 2015. At the time, the Oklahoman reported that she opted not to defend herself against the family's lawsuit.
She remains imprisoned at Mabel Basset Correctional Center, according to online records. Caswell was sentenced to 10 years in 2015 and will be required to register as a sex offender upon release.
Alabama judge dismisses charges against teacher accused of having sex with students as unconstitutional
BY JESSICA SCHLADEBECK
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Carrie Witt in March was charged with having sex with two students between the ages of 16 and 19 while she taught at Decatur High School. Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson on Thursday dismissed both charges without prejudice, which means the state can still refile, WHNT reported.
In Alabama, the age of consent is 16, though the law prohibits teachers from having sex with students under the age of 19.
Thompson in a 5-page ruling wrote the law forbidding sexual activity between consenting ages was too broad, adding the prosecution most prove the teacher was in a position of authority over her students if they want charges to stick, according to the news station.
“The court acknowledges that a disparity of power may inherently exist in a teacher/student relationship, but it clearly does not exist between every school employee and student regardless of where the student is enrolled,” the judge wrote. “By eliminating the requirement that the state show a position of authority, grooming, abuse, coercion, or lack of consent, the state criminalizes behaviors outside the state’s legitimate purpose.”
Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson told Decatur Daily he “respectfully disagrees with the court’s ruling” and that he intends to file an appeal.
The 44-year-old teacher allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old male student and then had another relationship with an 18-year-old. She was suspended from her teaching job in March 2016, but still continues to earn her salary, according to the newspaper.
Her attorney, Robert Tuten, argued the students were not under her direct authority when the relationships occurred and that they were both over the age of consent.
The judge cited a Kansas law in his ruling, pointing out that it specifically bars relationships between students and officials when students are enrolled at the school. Alabama law offers no such stipulation, according to WHNT.
Thompson in his ruling noted the “Court does not endeavor to absolve any wrongdoing,” but said it’s an overstep to immediately deny all possibilities of a consensual relationship.
“It is this court's finding that the law grants these students the capacity to consent until and unless there is some showing that authority was used to obtain illegitimate or coerced consent,” he wrote. “If no such position of authority is alleged, the defendant must be permitted to show consent as a defense.”
He also dismissed charges against David Solomon, a former teaching aide at Falkville High School who was accused with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Hood County man indicted for sexual abuse of a child
A Hood County man has been indicted on seven sexual abuse of a child charges.
David Marin Tijerina, 29, of Indian Harbor, was indicted for continuous sexual abuse of a child, four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child. Indictments are formal charges.
If he is convicted of the most serious charge, continuous sexual abuse of a child, Tijerina would receive a sentence of between 25 and 99 years in prison, said District Attorney Rob Christian.
Tijerina remains in the Hood County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

6 Asian Men Jailed for Grooming and Raping Young Girls in Aylesbury
By MARTIN ROBINSON
FOR MAILONLINE
The men targeted vulnerable children in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire for sex secured with 'the price of a McDonald's, a milkshake and a cinema ticket', the Old Bailey heard.
Today Vikram Singh, Asif Hussain, Arshad Jani, Mohammed Imran, Akbari Khan and Taimoor Khan were jailed for between three years and 19-and-a-half years.
The men, of Indian and Pakistani descent, may have targeted white girls because 'if they pursued Asian girls they would have paid a heavy price in their community,' judge John Bevan said.
The abuse between from 2006 and 2012 included multiple rapes of a child under 13, child prostitution and administering a substance to 'stupefy' a girl in order to engage in sexual activity.
Aylesbury is about 50 kms northwest of central London.
Most of the offences related to child A, who was present in court to see the men who robbed her of her teenage years jailed.
In a statement, she told of her feelings of 'worthlessness' as she battled depression and alcohol addiction, adding: 'I feel my teenage years were taken away from me.'
Sentencing, judge John Bevan QC paid tribute to her bravery in laying bare her life 'warts and all' and said the way some of the defendants took advantage of her vulnerability was 'grotesque'.
He said: 'She sought friendship amongst Asian males in their 20s and for the price of a McDonald's, a milkshake and cinema ticket, she became 'liked' by stall holders in Aylesbury market, taxi and bus drivers.
'By the age of 13 she was sexually experienced, confusing sexual gratification for friendship and love.'
By the time she was 16, the girl had been abused by just under 70 men and her vulnerability should have been 'blindingly obvious', the judge said.
He went on: 'Why these defendants focused their attention on white under-age girls is unexplained but I have no doubt vulnerability played a substantial part in it.
'The combination of inadequate parenting leading to rebellious children lacking supervision provided an opportunity.
'If they pursued Asian under-age girls, they would have paid a heavy price in their community.'
The two victims came from troubled backgrounds and wanted to feel grown-up when they were befriended by the men, who groomed them by showering them with inexpensive gifts such as alcohol, DVDs, food and occasionally drugs.
While aged just 12 or 13, child A was passed between some 60 mainly Asian men for sex after being conditioned into thinking it was normal behaviour, jurors were told.
The vast majority of the charges related to this child, while three charges related to girl B.
During the trial, prosecutor Oliver Saxby QC told the jury the youngsters were 'easy prey for a group of men wanting casual sexual gratification that was easy, regular and readily available'.
He said the girls' ideas of what was right had been 'completely distorted', and that they thought what was happening was 'normal' and 'natural'.
Many of the defendants were friends from the Aylesbury area. Some were married and had children, with some working on the market and a few working as taxi drivers.
Singh, 45, of Aylesbury, who has a wife and children, was told by Judge Bevan he bore a 'heavy responsibility' for the 'degradation' of Child A. He was jailed for a total of 17 and a half years for four counts of rape and administering a substance with intent.
Hussain, 33, of Milton Keynes, who was convicted of three counts of rape was sentenced to 13 and a half years.
Jani, 33, of Aylesbury, received 13 years for rape and conspiracy to rape. The court heard the bus driver had supported a wife and 17-month-old daughter in Pakistan.
Imran, 38, of Bradford, was convicted of three counts of rape, one count of conspiracy to rape and one count of child prostitution. The Pakistani national was jailed for 19-and-a-half years and faces the prospect of deportation afterwards.
He was the only defendant to express remorse for his actions today, saying through his lawyer he felt 'guilt and shame' for what he had done.
Akbari Khan, 36, of Aylesbury, who was found guilty of two counts of rape, administering a substance with intent, and conspiracy to rape, was jailed for 16 years. He too has a wife and young daughter.
Taimoor Khan, 29, of Aylesbury, was sentenced to three years in prison for one count of sexual activity with a child.
Harmohan Nangpal, 41, Faisal Iqbal, 32, Sajad Ali, 35, and Sohail Qamar, 41, were acquitted on all of the charges they faced during the trial.
One of the kingpins of the Aylesbury abuse gang targeted a 12-year-old as she browsed toys.
Asian abusers were provided with interpreters throughout the trial at a cost of £50,000 to the taxpayer
One of Britain's top criminal judges suggested the right to an interpreter should be 'means-tested' after six Asian men were sentenced for abusing vulnerable white girls.
Judge John Bevan, QC, sitting at the Old Bailey raised concerns that the men, some of whom had lived in Britain for many years, genuinely needed the help of interpreters to understand court proceedings.
Paying for interpreters currently costs UK taxpayers millions, with fees soaring in recent years.
Providing the men with interpreters throughout the trial and for the sentencing hearing may have cost the taxpayer up to £50,000, he told the court.
Judge Bevan said: 'I have submitted a report elsewhere as to the necessity to independently test the means of using interpreters and whether a defendant who has lived here for many years requires or is entitled to an interpreter.'
He made the comments after six men of Pakistani and Indian origin were jailed for over 82 years after an eight-week sex abuse trial.
Four other Asian men were acquitted of similar charges. Throughout the trial interpreters were provided almost all the defendants.
'The use of interpreters by eight of the defendants had cost a minimum of £25,000, quite possibly double that,' the judge said.
One of the men in the trial granted an interpreter had lived in the UK since 1999.
The judge said the defendants were not to blame for 'taking advantage' of the services on offer, but questioned whether interpreters were required, given some of the men's backgrounds.
Figures released by the Ministry of Justice showed the interpreter bill last year was £17.2m, up from £12m in 2012/2013.
The services, provided by outsourcing firm Capita, come part of a £300m contract for face-to-face interpreting in court, translating legal documents and telephone interpretation.

VICTIM SUING COUNCIL AFTER SOCIAL WORKERS FAILED TO PROTECT HER AND FRIENDS
After the sex gang was jailed today it emerged that one victim, known only as child B, is suing Buckinghamshire County Council for negligence resulting in the unnecessary suffering of the victims.
In a statement the woman, who had been in care, said that 'no sentence could ever put right what happened'.
But she said: 'It's an opportunity for all of us to say to the Government and to social services, whose job it is to protect vulnerable people, that it is time to sit down and listen to our experiences, and I mean actually listen and reflect on what is happening in this country.
'This would go a long way in helping them to be able to understand the problems that exist, to enable them to prevent things like this from happening to others in the future.'
Her solicitor Alan Collins added: 'It is without doubt that if social services had done more to protect the victims and spotted the crucial signs that something was wrong, we wouldn't be here today.
'However, the sentencing of these individuals does not make up for the failings. As a consequence, we will now be taking legal action against Buckinghamshire County Council for their negligence in this case which resulted in the unnecessary suffering of these victims.'
Javed Khan, chief executive of the charity Barnardo's which has supported the victims, said: 'These sentences send out an important message: abusers will pay for their actions. Their crimes have had a devastating impact on their victims.
'We will continue to work with Thames Valley Police, Buckinghamshire County Council and our other partners to stamp out this terrible crime, by raising awareness of the signs a child or young person is being sexually exploited, and supporting victims.'

ABUSE GANG RINGLEADER TARGETED VULNERABLE CHILD AS SHE BROWSED
THE TOYS IN WOOLWORTHS AHEAD OF HER 13TH BIRTHDAY

Indian-born Vikram Singh, known as 'Bicky', approached the girl as she looked at Batman figures in Woolworths in Aylesbury in 2006, just before her 13th birthday.
The former carer then groomed the child with gifts of food, drink and DVDs before attacking her at the cinema, where he had taken her to watch one of the Santa Claus films.
The married father-of-two later asked her for sex in her bedroom whilst her mother was at work, but needed Viagra 'because of his age'.
Singh then forced her to perform a sex act on him before raping her.
The pair would continue to meet up to three times a week for sex, sometimes in the back of his car at the back of a nursing home.
She then started to receive phone calls from unknown Asian men who would ask her for sex or ask her how old she was or whether she was a virgin.
When she told one caller her young age, he replied: 'I like that age.'
The prosecutor said the girl kept going back to Singh, but later told police: 'It felt like a disgusting job I had to do for him'.
The last time they had sex was in 2008, but by then she had become involved with Mohammed Imran, who was farming her out to other men for sex.
'I thought of him as the person who sold me and passed me around,' said the girl of Pakistan-born Imran.
She told police he would demand sex up to ten times a day, ply her with alcohol and drugs and farm her out to his friends.
'Some were taxi drivers, some were bus drivers, some were drug dealers, some weren't even from Aylesbury,' she said in interviews.
'He used to bring them from anywhere. They used to pay him. He didn't care. The most I had sex with in one day was five or six. I felt like I was on fire.'
The girl said she slept with between 15 and 20 of Imran's 'mates', who would pay around £25 for sex.
The victims thought they were in 'relationships' with their abusers and spoke of the men as being their 'boyfriends', the court heard.
