Child Sex-Abuse 'Casting Agent' is Freed

From BBC Northern Ireland

Michael Dynes pictured outside Dungannon Courthouse - he pleaded guilty to 41 sex charges

A man involved in "one of the most serious cases of sexual exploitation of children" the National Crime Agency has ever tackled has been freed after being sentenced to time he has already served in prison.

Michael Dynes, 39, targeted young people through online advertisements for life models.

The court heard he "auditioned" young people via webcam. Posing as a "casting agent", he would incite them to commit sexual acts.

Dynes, who is originally from Dungannon, County Tyrone, but now lives in a hostel in Ballymena, County Antrim, pleaded guilty to 41 sex charges, including making and possessing indecent images of children.

He also admitted inciting children, some of whom were younger than 13 years old, to engage in a sexual act as well as four charges of voyeurism.

Michael Dynes was arrested as part of the first joint operation between the NCA and the PSNI

The judge at Dungannon Crown Court said the public would be better protected by extending the supervised licence period to allow Dynes to undergo a full course of treatment, instead of returning him to prison for a month or two.

The court was told that Dynes has lost his job, marriage and his home as a result of his offending.

"All of that is now gone, solely due to your own criminal behaviour," the judge told him. "The offences effectively ruined your life. That is entirely your own fault."

He added that the images Dynes owned and created were of "real-life children... who have been sexually abused so that people like you can view them".

"No one should be in any doubt, that market would not exist but for people like you."

Dungannon Crown Court heard 1,133 indecent images were found on Dynes' computers

Dynes was caught on his own recording equipment while installing it in a bedroom, which then filmed a female carrying out private acts.

A camera was also installed by Dynes in a workplace kitchen, which resulted in "up-skirt" filming.

The defendant had spent 14 months remanded in custody in prison, which the judge said was the equivalent of a 28-month sentence.

The judge imposed a sentence of three years and one month on all counts, and set the period of custody at 13 months followed by 24 months supervision.

He said this was the minimum necessary for Dynes to complete the tailored sex offenders order that he needed.

He said the sentence would punish him for his criminal behaviour, serve as a deterrent to others and lead to his not committing any further offences.

The judge also said any breach of the heavily-monitored supervision would see him returned to prison for the full period of the sentence.

'Chatted with children online'

The judge added that as the internet continued to impact upon the modern world, "the law will continue to develop in this area".

Dynes was put on the sex offenders' register for life and will be subjected to terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) that will monitor him for the next 10 years.

He was arrested as part of Operation Jarra, a joint operation between the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

His home was searched in June 2015 and a forensic examination of his computers revealed 1,133 indecent images.

An NCA officer told an earlier court hearing that the investigation had revealed Dynes was chatting with boys and girls online and trying to incite them into committing sexual acts.

The officer described the matter as "one of the most serious cases of sexual exploitation of children encountered by the agency".

Doesn't seem like the sentence matches 'one of the most serious cases of sexual exploitation of children'. I understand the reasons for trying to keep voyeurs out of jail but this man manipulated children and put them in a position where they will always live with the fear that their 'indecent' photos will suddenly appear online. That deserves some serious prison time in my economy.

Salem police arrest man on
child sex abuse, porn charges

Whitney M. Woodworth, Statesman Journal

A Molalla, Oregon man is in jail and deemed a dangerous flight risk following his arrest by Salem police on child sex abuse and pornography charges Friday.

Larry Dwayne Rue Jr., 35, was arrested on charges of first-degree sex abuse, encouraging child sex abuse, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. According to court records, Rue sexually abused a boy, who was under the age of 12 at the time, sometime between Oct. 2014 and July 2016.

During the same time period, Rue allegedly forced the boy to "engage in sexually explicit conduct for a person to observe" and shared a video involving child sex abuse. In an order filed through Marion County Circuit Court, Rue was labelled a flight risk and a danger to his victim.

Marion County Judge Steven Price set Rue's bail at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear for a hearing on Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. at the Marion County Circuit Court Annex.

Rue is also facing burglary, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and harassment charges following an incident in Polk County. A trial date for those charges is set for Sept. 9.

Casting Agent convicted of sexual abuse to face child rape charge in Massachusetts
by: Christine McCarthy

A forming casting agent behind bars in Minnesota for sexually abusing boys will soon be extradited to Massachusetts on charges including child rape.

The local victim, who was just 14 at the time, came forward to his mother the year after the 2010 incident and told her Matthew Feeney, a relative who had stayed with them in their Norton home, had sexually assaulted him during his stay.

“It was like a bomb went off in our life, and even though you couldn’t see we were missing anything physical, everything changed in our life,” the teen’s mother told FOX25. “To be betrayed by someone you’ve loved your whole life, it’s particularly devastating.”

Later, in 2013, Feeney pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two other boys, one of them just nine years old. They are brothers and former clients of Feeney’s Minnesota casting agency, Walden Entertainment, which he used to cast children in acting roles.

In the early 1990s, Feeney received probation and was sent to treatment for three child sex abuse convictions, when he worked as a camp counselor and a Catholic youth pastor.

In journal entries obtained by FOX5 in Minneapolis, Feeney admitted to his “temptation.”

“It would be so much easier to simply be gay,” Feeney wrote. “At least you could find some support and acceptance from others who share your feelings. How many support groups are there for potential child molesters? Call it what you want. That’s what I am. I am a monster.”

Feeney, who is serving a nine-year sentence for the 2013 plea, had been fighting extradition, but waived rendition last week, agreeing to travel to Bristol County to face the Massachusetts charges.

The local mother, who had no knowledge of Feeney’s past, said her son is ready to testify against Feeney, for himself and for others. He wants to encourage other potential victims to come forward.

“Whatever Matthew Feeney has to serve, he’ll be done and he’ll get out, but my son will serve a life sentence,” she said. “We’re tired of waiting. We just want justice, and we just want a trial date, and we want to go forward and put this behind us, so that my son can heal.”

FOX25 tried reaching Feeney’s attorney, but did not make contact.

A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney said no court date has yet been set, but they are looking forward to the case finally being tried.
