Robert Corfield, a man who abused a boy in Canada in a secretive Christian church in the 1980s, has spoken publicly about what happened for the first time.

He was confronted by the BBC as part of a wider look into claims of child sexual abuse spanning decades within the church, known as The Truth.

His name is one of more than 700 given by people to a hotline set up to report sexual abuse within the church.

The sect says it addresses all abuse allegations.

The church, which has no official name but is often referred to as The Truth, The Way or the Two by Twos, is believed to have up to 100,000 members worldwide, with the majority in North America.

The potential scale of the abuse has been captured through a hotline - set-up last year by two women who say they were also sexually abused by a church leader when they were children. People have phoned in claiming they too were abused, with testimonies stretching back decades through to present day.

The highly secretive and insular nature of the church has helped abuse to thrive, say former and current insiders who spoke to the BBC. It has many unwritten rules, including that followers must marry within the group and keep mixing with outsiders to a minimum.

The church was founded in Ireland by a Scottish evangelist in 1897 and is built around ministers spreading New Testament teachings through word-of-mouth.

One of its hallmarks is that ministers give up their possessions and must be taken in by church members as they travel around, spreading the gospel. This makes children living in the homes they visit vulnerable to abuse, the insiders said.

Former priest sentenced to federal prison

for sexual abuse of a child

NEWBERRY — Jaime Adolfo Gonzalez-Farias, a/k/a “Father Gonzalez,” 69, a former Catholic priest, of Laurens, was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison following a conviction for transportation of a minor with intent to engage in illegal sexual acts.

Father Gonzalez-Farias served as a Catholic priest since at least 1990, including in South Carolina from 2015 until his suspension by the Catholic authorities in late 2020. He most recently served at parishes in Newberry and Laurens Counties. He also served in parishes in Florida and New Jersey.

In early 2020, Gonzalez-Farias met the minor victim, an 11-year-old boy, and his family through his position as a priest. Gonzalez-Farias began giving high levels of attention to the child, including giving gifts such as a cellphone that he used to communicate with the victim. In November 2020, the child’s family reported to Catholic authorities their concern that the priest’s relationship with the child was inappropriate. Church authorities suspended Gonzalez-Farias and made a report to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and FBI Columbia Field Office.

Investigators learned that in November 2020 the priest took the minor victim to Florida alone under the pretense of a beach vacation, and during that trip, Gonzales-Farias masturbated in front of the victim, attempted to sexually assault him, and showed the minor victim pornography. Investigators uncovered numerous text messages and WhatsApp messages sent by the priest to the minor, that included affectionate names for the child and messages that were inappropriate, crossed appropriate boundaries, and were consistent with the minor victim’s disclosure of abuse.

After his arrest by FBI agents on Nov. 28, 2022, at the Miami International Airport, Gonzalez-Farias admitted that he touched the minor victim’s genitals in Florida and that he showed the victim pornography and showered with the victim in South Carolina. FBI searched the contents of Gonzales-Farias’s devices, and the contents of those devices showed a continued interest in minors. Gonzalez-Farias pleaded guilty in August 2023.

United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Gonzalez-Farias to 262 months imprisonment, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Gonzalez-Farias will also have to register as a sex offender as a result of his conviction, and he was ordered to pay restitution to the victim for losses incurred as a result of his conduct.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorney’s Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. A Sault man was arrested yesterday after police executed a search warrant in the west end and found three “lifelike dolls of children which are intended for a sexual purpose.”

Detectives arrived at the residence, in the 500 block of Goulais Avenue, at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday. 

“The dolls resemble children approximately 2-14 years of age,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Timothy Allen, 38, is charged with one count of possession of child pornography. The Criminal Code defines child pornography as a photographic, film, video or other visual representation of someone under the age of 18.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The allegation has not been tested in court and Allen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The investigation was led by the Sault Police Technological Crime Unit, which is a member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.

The group, funded by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, consists of 27 partnering municipal agencies working collaboratively to rescue victims and combat child exploitation.

ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- A former St. Charles County youth hockey coach pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to sexually abusing two minors and recording it.

James R. Lambert, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography, one count of transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in sexual criminal activity, one count of receiving child pornography and one count of aggravated sexual abuse.

Lambert was also charged locally in two counties. He was charged in June in St. Louis County with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and one count of sexual exploitation of a 6-year-old. He was charged in St. Charles County with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and one count of first-degree child molestation.

Federal prosecutors allege he sexually abused one victim more than 50 times between 2007 and 2018. The victim was 6 when it started. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said the abuse happened in St. Charles County, other states, and foreign countries that Lambert took the victim to. He also recorded incidents of abuse.

Lambert admitted abusing a second victim in St. Charles and St. Louis Counties. That victim was between 6 and 9 years old.

After a victim came forward, investigators found hundreds of files on Lambert’s electronic devices showing him committing child sex crimes. Investigators also found more than 1,100 files of child sex abuse material that Lambert got online.

Lambert is scheduled to be sentenced June 18. The plea agreement says the prosecutor will ask the judge to sentence him to 50 years in prison.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – When Ana Albarran of Kissimmee found out her own father, Davie Albarran, had been arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for alleged sexual assault on children, she celebrated the news and said she is “hoping” he receives the death penalty.

“I’m hoping he gets like 20 years and the death penalty just because he deserves it,” she told Florida’s Voice. “He hurt so many people.”

Davie Albarran was featured on the crime television show “America’s Most Wanted” for the alleged sexual assault of 24 victims, according to Ana, including her own niece.

She and her sister became viral on TikTok after discovering their father was an alleged child predator and asked the public for help with trying to find him, even enlisting the public’s help to put up a billboard through a fundraising page.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Davie Albarran Feb. 18 after he was allegedly on the run for over a year.

Ana said she received multiple tips from the public about her father’s whereabouts the night of his arrest and said she called the police four times to tell them where he was hiding.

She tells Florida’s Voice she “snapped” when she saw her then nine-year-old niece’s face when detailing what she said the suspect had done to her “for months.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new Florida law, which took effect in October 2023, making it possible for child rapists to receive the death penalty.

Ana said she will “feel relieved” if her father receives the capital punishment.

“What he did to my niece was bad, and for months he did it to her, and just like how hopeless she felt, having to deal with her own grandfather doing these acts to her, hiding her phone so she can’t call anyone, like making her turn off the cameras in the house,” Ana said. “He’s a monster and he deserves that times 1,000. Like, he’s just a really bad person and I don’t feel bad about it.”

“I think that’s a great law to have, especially when it comes to little kids,” she continued.

According to Albarran’s arrest affidavit from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the arresting officer responded to a call in Lakeland, “in reference to locating a subject with 2 active warrants.”

Albarran allegedly had an active warrant from Osceola County for the charges of sex battery on a 12 year-old victim.

The second active warrant on Albarran was from Orange County was a “civil pick-up order for the charges of failure to pay child support.”

Albarran allegedly falsely identified himself as “Jose Rodriguez” to the officer on the scene of the arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.

Ana said there are 24 victims who came forward about her father and said she believes there have been two children and four adults so far, who have spoken out or made a statement about being sexually abused by him. She said he has “been doing this his whole life.”

“They’re kind of like building up the courage to go, a lot of women don’t want to do it because one, they already know he’s in jail, and two, they don’t want to go through like a long court process,” she said. “But like, I could just imagine that it’s probably more because if he was left alone with your child, he would do something to them. It doesn’t matter if you’re related or not related at all.”

Although she celebrated her father’s arrest, Ana said her father’s side of the family “sided with him” and she “lost the relationship” with them. She also said her mental health “is garbage.”

“Finding out that your father hurt people is horrible, but having to read over like 10, 20 people tell you exactly what your father has done to them is so sick,” she said. “And I had a mental breakdown finding out my father was like this.”

This is  a spectacular tragedy that is destroying children's lives.

Parents Say Schools Are Mismanaging Child-on-Child Sexual Assault

One family’s story reveals a mismatch between how authorities investigate and how kids process violent trauma.

The story of a kindergarten student in qathet School District 47 marks the third recent case in BC where families have alleged that their children have been sexually assaulted at school by fellow students and failed by schools and districts in the aftermath. Illustration by Nora Kelly.

By the time the two-week spring break ended on the northern Sunshine Coast in qathet School District 47 in late March 2022, Claire’s youngest child, Bailey, seemed to have turned the corner on their opinion of kindergarten.

The five-year-old had not particularly loved their first year of school, but by the end of break they were keen to go back to class, their mom told The Tyee. (The Tyee has agreed to use pseudonyms and not share the child’s gender and has opted not to name the school to protect the family’s privacy.)

But shortly after classes resumed, Claire, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, noticed a big change in their youngest child.

“They were exhibiting extreme anxiety around going to school. They were crying, waking up at night. It was like they were completely shut down,” Claire said. “I contacted their teacher.”

Despite being potty trained for three years, Bailey began soiling their bed at night and their clothes during the day. Suddenly this once adventurous kid with a “goofy” sense of humour was so afraid to be alone they insisted on following their mom everywhere, including to the bathroom.

It would take three months, a doctor’s visit and some gentle questioning before Bailey let Claire know what had happened: during outdoor recess at school, the kindergartener had been lured off the playground by two older boys, who, once they were out of teachers’ sight, proceeded to restrain and sexually and physically assault the younger child.

“It’s just so heartbreaking,” Claire told The Tyee.

By the time the truth had come to light, it was summer break. Claire immediately contacted the RCMP and the school’s outgoing and incoming principals to report the assault.

The Ministry of Children and Family Development was alerted and opened its own investigation into the assault.

The way the school district, the RCMP and the MCFD responded to the assault allegations horrified Claire and her husband. The ministry, for example, insisted Bailey be questioned without their parents present — something Claire and their husband were unwilling to do because Bailey was already struggling with anxiety and being away from their parents, especially Claire.

When Bailey initially disclosed the assault to Claire, they said they wanted to keep it private. Claire and her husband were concerned that placing Bailey into an interview alone with the MCFD to recount the assault would exacerbate the child’s trauma. The parents wanted to be there to provide emotional support to their child if they needed it.

“The initial trauma was the sexual assault by these two very predatory boys. But the ministry, the RCMP and the school district are continuing, through what I have termed ‘bureaucratic malice,’ to perpetuate the trauma,” Claire said.

Unsure if their children would ever be safe in the local school system, and knowing they would likely encounter Bailey’s abusers in the community again, the family made the difficult decision to sell their home and move to a different city.

But Claire remains worried about the safety of the other children in the school. They are also concerned about the two boys who allegedly committed the assault, who were 10 and 11 at the time.

“These are clearly children that need an enormous amount of help and intervention,” Claire said, adding they are concerned the boys may have been abused themselves.

In an interview with The Tyee, School District 47 superintendent Jay Yule said the district did its own investigation into the assault. But without anyone interviewing Bailey, there is only so much the district can do, he said.

“How do you carry on looking into things if you don’t talk to the person involved?” Yule said.

Canadian education systems seem completely oblivious to the destruction of innocence and the ability to learn.

Weeks after stepping down as global senior pastor of the Australia-based Neuma Church over allegations that he committed adultery with a female pastor in the Pentecostal megachurch, Pastor Corey Turner confirmed his resignation over a "morally inappropriate relationship."

"Out of sincere respect to those who have known me, trusted me and been connected in some way to my ministry as a Christian leader over the past 25 years, it's important that I publicly confess that the recent allegations toward me of my engagement in a morally inappropriate relationship is regrettably true," Turner wrote in a statement on his ministry's page on Facebook last Thursday.

"Towards the end of 2023 I didn't sufficiently guard my heart, reach out for help from trusted spiritual fathers, take decisive action or get the necessary rest I needed from the compounding levels of fatigue in my own soul," he said.

"In a fog of deception that clouded my emotions and judgement I sinned and compromised my relationship with God, my marriage covenant, my character, and my calling to ministry. I have sinned against God, my family and the church and I am deeply sorry and repentant for my part in this and ask God and you for forgiveness."

Until early February, Turner, who is married with children to wife Simone Turner, served as leader of the Hillsong-styled megachurch, which also has branches in Thailand and the United States.

Neuma Church's board secretary, Jacomi Du Preez, announced on Feb. 4 that the couple had resigned "due to unfortunate circumstances."

"It has become apparent that their health and wellbeing is such that they are no longer able to function in these roles," Du Preez said. "We ask the church to pray for them and their families as they explore the next season of their life and ministry, and we thank them for their service to Neuma."

Wayne Alcorn, president of the Australian Christian Churches, a movement of Pentecostal churches in voluntary cooperation to which Neuma Church is a member, revealed in a leaked Feb. 15 email that Turner had been accused of an "inappropriate relationship" with Pastor Stacey Hilliar.

Hilliar is a mother of four who served with her husband, Jai, on Neuma's executive team. She oversaw the "Prophetic Pillar" of the church, "which includes worship, creativity, prayer and the prophetic," according to her ministry profile.

In his recent remarks about his failures, Turner praised his wife and children for standing with him and embracing his weakness.

"I'm forever grateful to my amazing wife Simone and our beautiful children who have faithfully stood beside me and embraced me in my weakness. Simone was innocent, I'm not, yet we are committed to moving forward together into the fulness of God's restorative plan for our marriage. Together we are receiving the support and direction of seasoned and competent spiritual leaders as we take the necessary time for God to heal and restore us," he said.

"With the help of gifted counsellors I am confronting the errors of my own heart and receiving ministry for the unhealed wounds that have contributed to my actions."

Turner said resigning as senior pastor is a way to take "personal responsibility" for his failures and "prioritize the restoration of our family."

"We love the Neuma family very much and have always considered it an honor to be called by God to lead Neuma alongside the board, the elders, and the executive team," he wrote. "We will be forever grateful to God and the Neuma global family for the privilege of being your senior pastors."

Vienna. As the investigators announced on Sunday, the 27-year-old Afghan “basically confessed” – but only when it comes to the course of the crime. The asylum seeker can hardly deny this, after all he was caught near the crime scene by WEGA officials immediately after the brutal bloody act in “Studio 126a.” He still had the murder weapon – a knife that he had probably bought specifically for the attack – in his hand and threatened the police with it. He was only able to be overpowered and arrested with a Taser.

The motivation for the triple murder of the three Chinese women remains unclear. However, there are indications that Ebadullah A. may have acted as a self-proclaimed “moral guardian.” During an initial interrogation it became clear that the Afghan man was fundamentally full of hatred towards women. This may be why he considered the work of sex workers in the red light district to be particularly “immoral.” He has so far refused legal support.

The victims were three Chinese women, one of the four survived as a deeply shocked witness.

The cruel attack in the brothel was also ordered by voices that he heard. According to the police, there has been no evidence of a personal relationship between the asylum seeker and his victims.

It also needs to be clarified what actually brought Ebadullah A. to Vienna. The 27-year-old actually applied for asylum in Carinthia two years ago. Which means that he was officially prohibited from leaving the state. After leaving Kabul behind in 2022, the immigrant still presented himself full of confidence on his social media accounts and used positive smileys.

How the completely harmless and well-groomed young man, for whom the presumption of innocence applies, could have mutated into a triple killer in the meantime remains a mystery for the time being.

Document Shows Iranian Protester Raped Before Murder

A recently unveiled document has revealed that 16-year-old Nika Shakarami was raped by state-backed security during the Women, Life, Freedom protests.

The document, circulating on social media and seemingly discovered among a trove of files accessed after a hacktivist group breached the servers of the Iranian judiciary on Tuesday, contains evidence confirming that Shakarami had been subjected to rape amid a state sanctioned campaign of sexual violence as documented by rights groups.

The trove of documents obtained by the hacktivist group Edalat-e Ali covers a wide range of sensitive topics, spanning from internal discussions within the National Security Council following Mahsa Amini’s death to efforts aimed at curbing unauthorized VPN vendors, protests against the 2020 employment examination, and cases related to economic corruption.

Abbas Masjedi Arani, head of the Forensic Medicine Organization has sent the “very confidential” letter to the Supreme National Security Council, explicitly stating, “In the genital examination, signs indicating assault or rough sexual intercourse were evident.”

Mohamed said that ISIS was a “black stain” on history, that it is over, and she does not think it will be resurrected. She told Al-Arabiya Network that ISIS had become “obsessed” with women, that she estimates Al-Baghdadi kept more than 10 Yazidis slave girls, one of whom was a child who stayed with her own children for two months. She said that all ISIS emirs kept Yazidi slave girls. Mohamed said that slavery is unacceptable for any human being in the 21st century. She said that all Al-Baghdadi cared about was conquest and his personal security, and that ISIS dreamt about conquering Rome. Asmaa Mohamed, along with other family members of Al-Baghdadi have been repatriated in Iraq recently. It is assumed they were held in Turkey until now.

Asmaa Mohamed: “[Al-Baghdadi] became arrogant. He did not care anymore about the people around him. All heard (he?) cared about was conquests and his personal security, how they can expand the [Islamic] State… They had big dreams about conquering Rome… In my view, these were all fairy tales.

“Before the Caliphate was declared, he married a Syrian woman, from Aleppo. Her name was Aesha Qatmawi and she had five children. She was married to the leader of one of the factions in Syria. She lived in Saudi Arabia after her husband was killed, but she came from Saudi Arabia to Syria in order to marry Al-Baghdadi. So she married Al-Baghdadi, and immediately after the Caliphate was announced, he married a third woman, a 14-year old Iraqi. She was the daughter of someone close to him, Abdallah Al-Zobaie.”

Interviewer: “What about his Chechen wife?”

Mohamed: “Her he married in July 2015.

“[His third wife] was a child, the same age as my children. This marriage was done.”

Interviewer: “What about the Chechen woman?”

Mohamed: “We knew nothing about her either. We were at home, during the Ramadhan, and this foreign woman walked in, and he said she was his wife.

Interviewer: “Some people say that Al-Baghdadi had nine or ten Yazidi slave girls.”

 

Mohamed: “I can tell you that there may have been even more. I did not see them, but because of the obsession about women back then, the Islamic State turned into a ‘women’ state. With regard to taking slave girls, as a matter of faith, I believe that this was mentioned in the Quran – ‘whom your right hands possess’. However, this was normal at a certain point in time, but in my view, in this day and age, in the 21st or 22nd century, slavery has become unacceptable for any human being.

“None of the [captured] Yazidi women stayed with me. Maybe just for 2-3 days, or maybe a week. The most any one of them stayed with was maybe two months. Her name is Riham. She was a child and stayed with my children. With regard to the rest of the Yazidi women, I did not know where he was taking them, or what he was doing with them. They were not part of my circle.”

Interviewer: “It was said that he gave one of the Yazidi women to Abu Mohammad al-Adnani…”

Mohamed: “I have no knowledge of these details. All I know is that all of them owned Yazidi women. All the emirs owned Yazidi women.”

Interviewer: “Some Yazidi women who managed to escape from this ISIS hell testified that they were raped by Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.”

Mohamed: “I cannot confirm or deny this, but this is very possible. Back then, he and the entire ISIS organization became…”

Interviewer: “Obsessed?”

Mohamed: “Obsessed, barbaric… They had a thirst for it. They became inhuman in this regard.

“I believe that ISIS is a black [stain] in history, and it is over. Women should become more knowledgeable. They should not follow this dream, this illusion. ISIS is over and I do not think it will be resurrected.”

Interviewer: “Were you [women] asked to carry out suicide operations?”

Mohamed: “He suggested that we wear explosive belts, but we completely refused this. We have children. I could not do such a thing. I have children. I am thinking about their future. Allah prohibited suicide…”

Interviewer: “But he committed suicide when the U.S. forces got to him, and he also killed his son and two of his wives.”

Mohamed: “With regard to the killing of his son, I don’t know how a human being can do that. He was a child, none of it was his fault. How could he kill a child who has done nothing wrong? This was very painful to me…”

Interviewer: “Even your 12-year-old daughter whom he married off…”

Mohamed: “Yes. Yes. This is the true nature of this organization.”

And, unfortunately, it is the true nature of all radicalizedd Muslims. I believe "those whom your right hands possess" is the Quranic verse that Pakistani men use to justify their rape and gang rapes of thousands of young British girls.
