"Glee" star Mark Salling was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of child pornography possession after Los Angeles police served a search warrant at his home, authorities said.

The LAPD's Internet Crimes Against Children unit arrived at Salling's home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Sunland around 7 a.m. local time, police told NBC News. He was booked into the downtown Los Angeles jail.

His bail amount was set at $20,000, according to his booking sheet. Information for an attorney for Salling was not immediately available.

The 33-year-old actor is best known for playing Noah "Puck" Puckerman on the hit FOX television series "Glee" from 2009-15. He was also cast in the upcoming HBO superhero flick, "Adi Shankar's Gods and Secrets."

Rape Regulations: ISIS Laws on 'Proper' Sex Slave Treatment Revealed

In their minds, ISIS probably think they are being excessively kind
to their sex slaves. Perhaps they are trying to improve their image,
 but I doubt it

The Islamic State terrorist group has attempted to codify the sexual relations between its fighters and women they capture, by issuing a special ruling on when it’s OK to rape a female slave.

A "fatwa," which is what a learned interpretation of the Islamic law is called, was released by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in late January as “some of the brothers have committed violation in the matter of treatment of the female slaves. These violations are not permitted by Sharia law because these rules have not been dealt with in ages.”

“Are there any warnings pertaining to this matter?” the authors of the document wondered.

The ruling, which was among a batch of terrorist papers obtained by the US Special Operations Forces during a raid in Syria in May, was viewed by Reuters.

In the fatwa, the enslaved women and children of the infidels have been called “one of the graces which Allah have bestowed” upon the Islamic State.

According to the UN, the jihadists have abducted thousands of women and girls as young as 12 years old, selling them as sex slaves or giving to own militants as rewards.

The IS theologians from the Committee of Research and Fatwas have come up with over a dozen rules, which the fighters are to follow in order to make their sexual practices comply with the group’s laws.

The fatwa forbids the owners of female slaves to have intercourse with the woman during menstrual cycle.

Sexual contact with a pregnant captive carrying a child is also forbidden, with the document stressing that “it’s not permissible to cause her to abort if she’s pregnant.”

“If the owner of a female captive, who has a daughter suitable for intercourse, has sexual relations with the latter, he is not permitted to have intercourse with her mother and she is permanently off limits to him,” the paper said.

According to the ruling, a fighter who owns two sisters, could only have intercourse with one of them.

The father is restricted from engaging in sexual relations with a slave owned by his son and vice versa, the fatwa No. 64, dated January 29, 2015, said.

Joint owners of a female captive are both banned from intercourse with her as she is viewed as "part of a joint ownership."

The slave owners were also instructed to “show compassion towards her (female captive), be kind to her, not humiliate her, and not assign her work she is unable to perform."

The women shouldn’t be sold to individuals about whom it’s known that they’ll mistreat the female slave, the fatwa concluded.

'Comfort Women': Japan and South Korea Hail Agreement

From BBC Asia

The leaders of Japan and South Korea have welcomed the agreement between their two countries to settle the issue of "comfort women" forced to work in Japanese brothels during World War Two.

Japan has apologised and will pay 1bn yen ($8.3m; £5.6m) - the amount South Korea asked for - to fund victims.

Estimates suggest up to 200,000 women were sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during WW2, many of them Korean.

Other women came from China, the Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan.

The issue has been the key cause of strained relations between Japan and South Korea.

Only 46 former "comfort women" are still alive in South Korea.

Lee Ok Seon: "I was forced to have sex with many men each day"
The agreement came after Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida met his counterpart Yun Byung-se in Seoul, following moves to speed up talks.

Later Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe phoned South Korean President Park Geun-hye to repeat an apology already offered by Mr Kishida.

"Japan and South Korea are now entering a new era," Mr Abe told reporters afterwards. "We should not drag this problem into the next generation."

Ms Park issued a separate statement, saying a deal had been urgently needed - given the advanced age of most of the victims.

"Nine died this year alone," she said. "I hope the mental pains of the elderly comfort women will be eased."

Japan-South Korea 'comfort women' deal

South Korean activists for comfort women have been holding weekly
demonstrations outside the Japanese embassy in Seoul
Japan will give 1bn yen to a fund for the elderly comfort women, which the South Korean government will administer

The money also comes with an apology by Japan's prime minister and the acceptance of "deep responsibility" for the issue

South Korea says it will consider the matter resolved "finally and irreversibly" if Japan fulfils its promises

South Korea will also look into removing a statue symbolising comfort women, which activists erected outside the Japanese embassy in Seoul in 2011

Both sides have agreed to refrain from criticising each other on this issue in the international community

After the meeting in Seoul, Mr Kishida called the agreement "epoch-making".

"Prime Minister Abe expresses anew his most sincere apologies and remorse to all the women who underwent immeasurable and painful experiences and suffered incurable physical and psychological wounds as comfort women," Mr Kishida told reporters.

The wording of the deal does not explicitly state that the "comfort women" will receive direct compensation, but states that the fund will provide "support" and bankroll "projects for recovering the honour and dignity and healing the psychological wounds".

Some former "comfort women", such as Lee Yong-soo, have taken issue with this.

The 88-year-old told the BBC: "I wonder whether the talks took place with the victims really in mind. We're not after the money. If the Japanese committed their sins, they should offer direct official government compensation."

Another former "comfort woman", 88-year-old Yoo Hee-nam, said: "If I look back, we've lived a life deprived of our basic rights as human beings. So I can't be fully satisfied.

"But we've been waiting all this time for the South Korean government to resolve the issue legally. As the government worked hard to settle deal before the turn of the year, I'd like to follow the government's lead."

In Japan journalist Nobuo Ikeda reflected the view of many on Twitter that the country had lost out, although others thought the deal could have been worse for Mr Abe.

"Japan pays 1bn yen and our PM apologises but South Korea will 'consult about the girl's statue' - that's not a diplomatic negotiation," Mr Ikeda tweeted.

With only days left until the end of the year, the timing of the talks was highly symbolic and the expectations for results were high.

Earlier in the year, the South Korean president called for a resolution to the "comfort women" dispute by the year's end, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

However, few believed that a quick breakthrough could be reached on a thorny issue that has strained the region for decades and some critics say the talks have been rushed to preserve the symbolism.

It's unclear if Japan's admission of responsibility was legal or just humanitarian, and Tokyo's offer of 1bn yen has been described as a measure to help the women, not as direct government compensation.

The dozens of surviving women have asked for a formal apology specifically addressed to themselves, and direct compensation. They say past expressions of regret have been only halfway and insincere.

Negotiators appear to have overcome several obstacles including disagreements over the wording of the agreement and the amount of compensation. Tokyo was reportedly initially considering paying only about 100m yen.

The United States congratulated the governments of Japan and South Korea on reaching the agreement.

"We believe this comprehensive resolution is an important gesture of healing and reconciliation," a White Hose statement said.

"The United States applauds... two of our most important allies for having the courage and vision to forge a lasting settlement to this difficult issue."

Japan has repeatedly apologised or acknowledged its responsibility for wartime sex slaves, most notably in a 1993 statement by the then-chief cabinet secretary Yohei Kono.

It had also resisted giving greater compensation, arguing that the dispute was settled in 1965 when diplomatic ties were normalised between the two countries and more than $800m in economic aid and loans was given to South Korea.

A private fund was also set up in 1995 for the victims and lasted for a decade, but money came from donations and not from the Japanese government.

Montana Man Serving 50 Years for Child Sexual Abuse up for Parole Hearing

By Dax VanFossen KPAX

An Evergreen man sentenced to 50 years in prison for molesting an 11-year-old girl more than 30 times could be released on parole this week.

KALISPELL - Montana
60-year-old Ernest Wilcock was convicted in Flathead District Court in May of 1998 after an 11-year-old girl reported the molestations to police.

He has continuously tried to appeal his sentence to the Montana Supreme Court.

As part of the sentence, he was not able to be on parole until the victim reached 25 years old, which was in 2010.

Wilcock also served five years in the Utah prison system after firing 13 shots at a woman who rejected his sexual advances.

So it appears he's a really bad shot.

Court documents reveal that Wilcock also tried in 2011 to access his deceased daughter's life insurance payout after she was strangled to death in a Kalispell motel room in 2003. The Montana Supreme Court denied that request.

The death of Wilcock's daughter remains Kalispell's only unsolved murder.

Does he sound like the kind of man who would murder his own daughter for insurance money? I hope the parole board tells him not to apply again for 30 years.

His parole hearing starts at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Girl Power: Unschooled Afghan Refugee Is Now One Of Canada's Brightest Lights

Love this girl. She's not waiting around worrying about equality; she just goes for whatever the world will let her have.
God bless her.

Somaya Amiri
Somaya Amiri is currently wandering the rising green hills and preserved concrete trenches of Vimy Ridge. The teen is one of 20 Canadian students sent to France to learn more about the First World War battle that saw the Canadian army push back the Germans over four blood-soaked days from April 9 to 12, 1917.

But 17-year-old Amiri's experience will be unlike that of her peers.

Growing up in war-torn Afghanistan, Amiri came to Canada in October 2011 unable to speak English and having never attended school, a decision her family made to protect her from being attacked by the Taliban. Understandably, she didn't know much about the First World War, much less Canada's role in it before a Grade 11 social studies class.

"I knew about other wars, like the Soviets, mujaheddin and Taliban, those kind of wars mostly in my area. But not much about World War One or Two," she tells The Huffington Post Canada before departing for France. "There's a huge impact when you are affected by war more than when you just learn about it from textbooks. Just living in a country I had to leave because of the consequences of war, there's a huge difference."

The teen, who lives in New Westminster, B.C., says she applied for the Vimy Pilgrimage Award because of her background.

"I'm from a war-torn country and it's really important for me to educate myself and learn what is my responsibility as a leader in this generation. The things that happened in the past feel ongoing," she adds. "A lot of these things are still happening, a lot of hatred is still continuing."

Though the Taliban were in power when Amiri was born, she mostly remembers growing up in the Behsood District during the aftermath of the U.S. invasion. There, the war played out as occasional insurgent attacks and suicide bombings, as well as a longstanding conflict between local ethnic groups which continues to this day. Just this month, 31 members of Amiri's Hazara community were kidnapped.

"Until you are put in a very tough circumstance you don't realize how strong you are, how much you can stretch and how diverse experiences make you appreciate what you have now," she says. "Living in Afghanistan, I was like a whole different person. Coming to Canada, you find different parts of your identity and you learn how to become a stronger person and overcome challenges and hardships."

It was particularly hard for Amiri as she arrived in B.C.'s Lower Mainland without any schooling because of the Taliban's violent opposition to educating girls. Though her parents had brought her to a mosque to learn how to read and write, she understood no English at all. She enrolled at Sir Charles Tupper Secondary in Vancouver, an hour away from home but with great English Language Learner and English as a Second Language (ELL/ESL) programs.

"I was super excited to go to school for the first time but also I was super nervous. I was worried about how I would make friends, how I would communicate," she recalls. "On the first day it seemed so big, like a city, and I can't talk."

But she quickly met other ELL/ESL students and they began eating lunch together, sharing experiences, and making each other feel more comfortable in their new country. Amiri also discovered she could pick up languages quickly. She would ask her teachers for extra textbooks and was always the "first in and last out" at the after-school homework club where she worked on her pronunciation.

Amiri got over feeling self-conscious and was picking up about 40 words a day, but she realized some of her classmates felt too intimidated to practice English with native speakers, even their teachers.

A few months after arriving in Canada, Amiri worked with a school counsellor to apply for a grant to start an adult-free, after-school English Welcome Club. "For me, it was so strange. How is this even possible? In my country you could never do something like that at such a young age. When she suggested it to me, I was just fascinated."

Somaya Amiri, third from right,
poses with the "English Welcome Club" that she started.
Creating this safe environment for students to practice and improve their English was a huge success, which Amiri followed up by facilitating anti-discrimination sessions, leading a humanitarian Youth for Change club, and joining extracurricular science programs. She also started taking Spanish in Grade 10 and soon added French to her linguistic repertoire.

While she was accomplishing all this extra work for herself and her classmates, she was doing the same for her family who weren't having such an easy time adjusting to their new environs.

"Because we were new immigrants there were so many things that my family was going through. And when you're the child that knows English better, you have to do everything for the family: translations for the hospital, talking to your siblings' teachers, talking to a lawyer."

If you're impressed at this point, you're not alone. As well as winning over the Vimy Foundation, Amiri was one of 30 students to land a Loran scholarship, a $100,000 award for students who match academic success with service and leadership. The prize can be applied to any university she chooses.

Somaya Amiri is considering studying sciences in university
"When I went to the Loran interview I was amazed at how passionate the other kids were and all the things they want to do. I was just thinking about how much being exposed to opportunities can change you, can help you, can affect your community or your country. In Afghanistan, imagine if we had all this opportunity?

"It's not fair for me to find that I'm able to take leadership roles, and able to learn a language fast, and able to do well in school [here], an ocean away," she said, her words choked with emotion. "I had a very supportive family but there are girls who get married at such a young age, nine years old and 10 years old.... And kids, they get sold because their parents are going through so much, and girls that get acid-attacked, abused.

"Education is not even a part of their worries. Even with that they're so strong. The things that they go through. I can't even say enough about, without having any opportunities, how strong they are.

"Imagine if you could give them an opportunity, how much they could move forward and it doesn't just affect their family, it affects their community, it affects the entire country. Not just in Afghanistan but everywhere."

Amiri again pauses, overwhelmed, but presses on because that is what she always does. "I experienced two separate lives: one with opportunities and one without opportunities. If I was still in Afghanistan, I don't know where I would be right now. I would've been married. Maybe I would have had kids?"

This is where her motivation to help others comes from, an appreciation of what she's been given and what she narrowly escaped, and the desire to help spread those opportunities as far as she can. Amiri said she plans to go into the sciences in university, but has also considered working at the United Nations.

"That is something I'm thinking about," she says, "But it's a long pathway and we'll see where I end up."

Losing My Religion for Equality - Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter

Illustration: Dyson
Women and girls have been discriminated against for too long in a twisted interpretation of the word of God.

I HAVE been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention's leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be "subservient" to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service.

This view that women are somehow inferior to men is not restricted to one religion or belief. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths. Nor, tragically, does its influence stop at the walls of the church, mosque, synagogue or temple. This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women's equal rights across the world for centuries.

At its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities.

The impact of these religious beliefs touches every aspect of our lives. They help explain why in many countries boys are educated before girls; why girls are told when and whom they must marry; and why many face enormous and unacceptable risks in pregnancy and childbirth because their basic health needs are not met.

In some Islamic nations, women are restricted in their movements, punished for permitting the exposure of an arm or ankle, deprived of education, prohibited from driving a car or competing with men for a job. If a woman is raped, she is often most severely punished as the guilty party in the crime.

The same discriminatory thinking lies behind the continuing gender gap in pay and why there are still so few women in office in the West. The root of this prejudice lies deep in our histories, but its impact is felt every day. It is not women and girls alone who suffer. It damages all of us. The evidence shows that investing in women and girls delivers major benefits for society. An educated woman has healthier children. She is more likely to send them to school. She earns more and invests what she earns in her family.

It is simply self-defeating for any community to discriminate against half its population. We need to challenge these self-serving and outdated attitudes and practices - as we are seeing in Iran where women are at the forefront of the battle for democracy and freedom.

I understand, however, why many political leaders can be reluctant about stepping into this minefield. Religion, and tradition, are powerful and sensitive areas to challenge. But my fellow Elders and I, who come from many faiths and backgrounds, no longer need to worry about winning votes or avoiding controversy - and we are deeply committed to challenging injustice wherever we see it.

The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by former South African president Nelson Mandela, who offer their influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity. We have decided to draw particular attention to the responsibility of religious and traditional leaders in ensuring equality and human rights and have recently published a statement that declares: "The justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a Higher Authority, is unacceptable."

We are calling on all leaders to challenge and change the harmful teachings and practices, no matter how ingrained, which justify discrimination against women. We ask, in particular, that leaders of all religions have the courage to acknowledge and emphasise the positive messages of dignity and equality that all the world's major faiths share.

The carefully selected verses found in the Holy Scriptures to justify the superiority of men owe more to time and place - and the determination of male leaders to hold onto their influence - than eternal truths. Similar biblical excerpts could be found to support the approval of slavery and the timid acquiescence to oppressive rulers.

I am also familiar with vivid descriptions in the same Scriptures in which women are revered as pre-eminent leaders. During the years of the early Christian church women served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets. It wasn't until the fourth century that dominant Christian leaders, all men, twisted and distorted Holy Scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant positions within the religious hierarchy.

The truth is that male religious leaders have had - and still have - an option to interpret holy teachings either to exalt or subjugate women. They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter. Their continuing choice provides the foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world. This is in clear violation not just of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights but also the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, Moses and the prophets, Muhammad, and founders of other great religions - all of whom have called for proper and equitable treatment of all the children of God. It is time we had the courage to challenge these views.

Muhammad's proper treatment of women was never equitable! It included child brides and women were clearly worth one-half of a man. Non-Muslim women and girls were kafirs and as such could be beaten and raped at any age as long as the child was able to bear the process. These are directly from the writings of Muhammad.

As far as Christianity is concerned, he is right, at least to a point. We have been guilty of lording it over women, some denominations more than others, but most are not equitable or fair in our treatment of women. There are Biblical reasons for this other than what President Carter has mentioned, but they are very often over-applied.

What do you think? Is Jimmy right?

Mayo Clinic Fires Doctor Advocating Female Genital Mutilation

Dr. Hatem Elhagaly, a Muslim pediatrician,  was dismissed from the top-notch clinic for promoting a practice that is illegal in America but, in his words, "honors Islam."

by Meira Svirsky

The Mayo Clinic has fired one of their doctors for advocating female genital mutilation. Dr. Hatem Elhagaly, left, a Muslim pediatrician,  was dismissed from the top-notch clinic for promoting a practice that is illegal in America but, in his words, "honors Islam."

Only in the Muslim mind could the brutal mutilation of little girls be considered a source of honor. How utterly evil!

The barbaric practice has no health benefits to women. On the contrary, in addition to the emotional and psychological trauma of the procedure, mutilation of female genitals can cause severe bleeding, urinary problems, painful mentruation, cysts, complication in childbirth, sterility and death.

In a statement released announcing Elhagaly's dismissal, the Mayo Clinic wrote, "Female circumcision in children, referred to as female genital mutilation in U.S. legal statutes, is a felony-level child abuse crime. Mayo Clinic strongly opposes the procedure and it has never been performed at any Mayo Clinic facility."

An internet blog devoted to cutting-edge medical practices and treatments says that Elhagaly "justifies this position by referring repeatedly to the words of classical Islamic scholars from the four schools of mainstream Sunni Islamic thought, all of which attest to FGM's legitimacy under Islam. He also refers to the words of the Prophet Muhammad himself, who reportedly counselled people in his day on how to perform FGM in a way that would be 'more beautiful to behold and better for [the woman's] husband.' A Horse Cave, KY man was arrested Tuesday on sex abuse charges.

Ernest England, 60, was charged with first degree sexual abuse (minor under the age of 12) and first-degree sodomy (child under the age of 12).

England was arrested after Horse Cave police were dispatched to a residence to investigate the sexual abuse of a minor. The victim's mother described physical sexual contact between England and her young daughter, according to a Horse Cave Police Department press release.

Police officers read England his Miranda right warning, and according to the press release, he admitted to “several lowly sexual acts with a female under the age of 12.”

England was taken to Caverna Memorial Hospital with complaints of chest pain for evaluation and then transferred to the Hart County Jail, the press release said.

Illinois man pleads guilty to sexual abuse and child porn charges

A Sesser man pleaded guilty this past week on sexual charges in Franklin County Circuit Court, according to Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan Owens.

Dustin Brasil, 22, on Dec. 17 entered into open pleas of guilty for the offense of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, and child pornography, a Class 3 felony.

Why no distinction between 'aggravated criminal sexual abuse', and 'aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child'?

Brasil admitted to having sexual contact with a victim between the ages of 13 and 17. He also admitted possessing a photograph of a child who was under the age of 18 depicted in a pose involving the lewd exhibition of the unclothed breast of a child.

The case was investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and is set for sentencing at 9:30 a.m. March 24.

Utah man pleads guilty to child sex abuse

By The Associated Press

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A 33-year-old Pleasant Grove man has pleaded guilty to reduced child sex charges in a case that prosecutors say involved five children.

The Daily Herald reports that Andrew Bishop pleaded guilty Monday in 4th District court to amended charges including first-degree felony aggravated sexual abuse and second-degree sexual abuse of a child.

Bishop was arrested in September and had faced more than 80 counts of sexual abuse.

He face more than 80 counts of child sex abuse and they allow him to plead on just two? Seriously? That's hardly believable!

Sentencing was scheduled Feb. 1.

Bishop has been ordered by the court to have no contact with any of the five alleged victims.

And now he is out on bail waiting for sentencing; why? 5 children are living in fear that they might run into this pervert; for what reason. Does Bishop have friends in high places, or what?
Get the pervert off the streets and keep him off the streets!

Oklahoma man sentenced for child sex abuse,
fighting for new trial
By Jessica Bruha

Nearly a year after a jury found a Newalla man guilty on 11 child sex abuse charges, recommending life sentences for several of the counts, he was formally sentenced Monday.

Prior to the sentencing, a hearing was held for a motion to dismiss 43-year-old Thomas Roye Wahpekeche’s case, based on lack of jurisdiction.

District Judge Lori Walkley dismissed the motion; however, the fight for a new trial isn’t over yet.

“In light of sentencing, this is far from resolved,” said Sam Talley, Wahpekeche’s current defense attorney.

Talley took the case after Wahpekeche discharged the attorney who represented him during his trial in January, Elton Jenkins. Court records show Wahpekeche sent letters to Walkley, prosecutor Jennifer Austin and Jenkins, notifying everyone of the termination.

“You must withdraw from my case immediately,” Wahpekeche’s letter to Jenkins on April 8 states.

In a letter to all parties, also dated April 8, Wahpekeche wrote that he had terminated Jenkins as his legal counsel March 26. A copy of the termination letter was sent to the court clerk the same day, he wrote.

After being informed by jail staff that a pre-sentence investigation was to take place, Wahpekeche wrote that he refused to take part in it until he obtained new legal counsel.

“I refuse to be sentenced with Elton Jenkins as my lawyer,” the letter states.

Pennsylvania man charged with sexual abuse of child at wife's day care

This is the third report on child sex abuse in a day care center in the past 2 weeks
BY HAYDEN MITMAN
PhillyVoice Staff

A 54-year-old Yardley man was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexually assaulting a child at a Morrisville, Bucks County, day care several times more than a decade ago.

According to a court document, Falls Township Police arrested Harry Lawrence III after a woman told officers in November that "many years ago" she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Lawrence when she was at a day care owned by Lawrence's wife.

Court documents stated the woman told investigators that 10 years ago, when she was about 9 or 10 years old, she was "sexually molested by the husband of her day care provider and that this occurred between approximately six and 12 times."

During the time of the alleged assaults, the day care, Little Joys Day Care, which operated from the Lawrence's former home on the 200 block of Vernon Road, in Morrisville. It has since closed.

The woman told police she attended the day care for about three years, from 2000 to 2003 and during this time, she said she was abused by Lawrence in the basement of the home, according to court documents.
Yardley, PA
The woman, as detailed in court documents, said Lawrence sat her on his knee as a child and touched her inappropriately. When she moved to halt his advances, the documents said, Lawrence allegedly would continue to molest her.

Lawrence is charged with aggravated indecent assault of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault of a victim under the age of 13, corruption of minors and related offenses.

Lt. Harry Ward, of the Falls Township Police, said law enforcement officials worry that there may be more victims who have yet to come forward.

"We believe there may be more victim’s out there. We have just opened two more investigations from information we gained during this investigation," Ward said in an email. "These assaults happened approximately 10 years ago, so if anyone had their children in this day care, please speak to them and see if they have been victimized by this subject."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Stephen Reeves at reevespd@fallstwp.com or at 215-302-3305.

Lawrence has been sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Texas Firefighter Gets Slap on the Wrist for Repeated Sex Abuse of 2 Pre-Teens

Texas firefighter sentenced for child sex abuse

Richard Fredrick Adams Sr., 63, of Weatherford, TX
BY DOMINGO RAMIREZ JR.
ramirez@star-telegram.com

WEATHERFORD, Texas - A former Hudson Oaks firefighter was sentenced to 15 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting two young girls last year.

Richard Fredrick Adams Sr., 63, also a retired Fort Worth firefighter, was sentenced earlier this month after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child in a plea agreement.

He got 15 years on each charge, and the two sentences would be served concurrently. Adams will have to serve half his sentence before he is eligible for parole, and he must register as a sex offender upon his release, Parker County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain said on Tuesday.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid! Stop with the concurrent sentences for child sex abuse, please. Wow! That's some kind of plea bargain; it's obvious who got the bargain and it wasn't his victims. Good grief! Eligible for parole in 7.5 years. Those girls will still be in their teens. There should be 'no possibility' of him getting out of prison while those girls are still teens. Someone should be investigated over this plea bargain, and someone should be fired!

Charges of sex abuse of a child continuous and indecency with a child will not be pursued by prosecutors as part of the plea agreement.

Adams remained in the Parker County Jail Tuesday awaiting his transfer to state prison.

He was arrested in July 2014 after investigators seized rolls of duct tape, cellphones, pornographic videos, towels and electronic equipment from his two houses in unincorporated Parker County near Weatherford, authorities said.

He assaulted the girls, ages 11 and 8, at the houses and in his vehicle. The girls were acquaintances of his.

According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram in July 2014, the 8-year-old told an investigator that Adams forced her to commit sex acts on him and he did the same to her at his houses. Also, Adams drove her to a lake and sexually assaulted her in his pickup, authorities said.

At times, Adams showed her movies of “grown-ups doing” sex acts, and then would perform sex acts on her, the girl told investigators.

She said that Adams used white tape and gray duct tape to bind her hands and feet, and also used the tape to bind her to a bloody mattress. Adams used towels to clean up rooms and his truck after performing sex acts on the girls, the affidavit said.

OMG, this is utterly disgraceful!

Hudson Oaks, Weatherford, Texas
The investigation began July 7, 2014, when Child Protective Services “alerted deputies about a possible sexual assault,” Lt. Mark Arnett, a spokesman for the Parker County Sheriff’s Department, said in an interview with the Star-Telegram in July 2014.

The girls were interviewed July 18, 2014, in Fort Worth. Investigators have found no other girls who might be involved, Arnett said in the interview.

At the time of his arrest, Adams was suspended from Hudson Oaks Fire Rescue, Chief Pat English said in July 2014. Adams later resigned from the department, English said in a Tuesday email.

Adams was a Fort Worth firefighter from 1977 until he retired in 2009, Fort Worth fire officials have said.

Video Shows Islamic State Sales of Yazidi Sex Slaves in Turkey

Caution: another very difficult read

German public television aired a segment this month about the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) selling Yazidi women in Turkey

Yazidi Family Reunited after purchase negotiated with ISIS in Turkey
Reuters
by MARY CHASTAIN

The station ADR discovered that ISIS used a “liaison office” in Gaziantep, which is also known as Antep, in Turkey near the Syrian border.

Note: video is in German

Other stations NDR and SWR reported:

IS [Islamic State] offers women and underage children in a kind of virtual slave market with for-sale photos. … The transfer of money, as the reporter discovered, takes place through a liaison office in Turkey. …

For weeks, NDR and SWR accompanied a Yazidi negotiator, who, on behalf of the families, negotiates with the IS for the release of the slaves and their children. … the women are sold in a digital slave market to the highest bidder. 15,000 to 20,000 US dollars are a typical price. Similar sums for ransom are also required to free Yazidis. The money is then transferred via IS-liaison offices and middlemen to the terrorist group.

NDR and SWR were present at the liberation of a woman and her three small children, aged between two and four years old, and followed the negotiations. How many Yazidi slaves are still ‘owned’ by IS is unclear. Experts estimate that there still could be hundreds.

The Yazidi negotiator worked to liberate this woman and her children
The woman embraces her relatives after being reunited
The negotiator “transferred more than” $2.5 million to the terrorist group to rescue “250 Yazidi women and children.”

The negotiator meets with the ISIS operatives to deliver $2.5 million
ISIS sellers typically demand between $15,000 and $20,000 for each woman. The Yazidi families sacrifice all their money and savings to rescue their loved ones. NDR also reported that Iraqi Kurdish President Masoud Barzani has paid for some of the ransom demands, even though the money lands in the hands of ISIS.

The reports have resulted in the Gaziantep Bar Association filing “a criminal complaint against” law enforcement in the city for having “committed neglect of duty and misconduct by not taking required measures, and not carrying out preventive and required intelligence activities before the media covered the said incidents.” They demanded the courts prosecute those responsible for these crimes.

Wow, that's courageous!

“The tragic reality is that Gaziantep is a crowded city; the suicide bombers easily cross [to Syria and Iraq]. Unfortunately, Gaziantep exports terrorism,” explained lawyer Bektas Sarkli, the head of Gaziantep Bar Association. “When you see the ammunition captured and especially take into account the money transferred here [it is clear that] ISIS easily shelters in this city. Gaziantep is the logistic site of ISIS.”

Islamic State jihadists target Yazidis because they consider the minority religious sect “devil-worshippers.” In summer 2014, ISIS terrorists invaded northern Iraq, where most Yazidis live, killing men and kidnapping women and girls for sex slavery. Mirza Ismail, founder and chairman of the Yazidi Human Rights Organization, spoke to Congress about the actions, which Yazidis argue fit the legal definition of genocide:

According to many escaped women and girls to whom I spoke in Northern Iraq, the abducted Yazidis, mostly women and children, number over 7,000.

Some of those women and girls have had to watch 7-, 8-, and 9-year-old children bleed to death before their eyes, after being raped by ISIS militia multiple times a day.
- with the unequivocal approval of Mohammed, Allah's messenger

I met mothers, whose children were torn from them by ISIS. These same mothers came to plead for the return of their children, only to be informed, that they, the mothers, had been fed the flesh of their own children by ISIS. Children murdered, then fed to their own mothers.

ISIS militias have burned many Yezidi girls alive for refusing to convert and marry ISIS men.

Young Yezidi boys are being trained to be jihadists and suicide bombers. All of our temples in the ISIS controlled area are exploded and destroyed. Why? Because we are not Muslims, and because our path is the path of peace. For this, we are being burned alive: for living as men and women of peace.

Gatestone Institute also points out Turkey’s alleged history of aiding rebels and jihadists in Syria since the civil war broke out in 2011. Terrorists took over Azaz, a key town in Syria near the border of Turkey in September 2013, after Turkey “vocally supported the fight against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and allowed weapons to cross into Syria on its southern border.” The capture of Azaz allowed easier access to Syria to the jihadists. Two months later, CNN reported on a secret route from Turkey to Syria used by Islamic State jihadists.

Turkey supports ISIS
In July 2014, an anonymous man claiming to be an ISIS jihadist told The Jerusalem Post that Turkey funds the terrorist group. A Turkish nurse only known as E.G. complained to authorities that she is tired of treating members of ISIS. She said she is “disturbed” the militants receive treatment in Turkish hospitals even though they hold several Turkish nationals as hostages. A Western official told The Guardian that evidence seized at the compound of Abu Sayyaf, an ISIS leader, proved links between the terrorist group and the Turkish government.

Turkey joined the fight against ISIS over the summer after a suicide bomber killed 32 people in Suruç, and a militant murdered a Turkish soldier.

However, most of their bombs and bullets seem to have been directed toward Kurdish Peshmerga who are fighting ISIS. Kurds are a threat to separate from Turkey and Sultan Erdogan would be happy to eliminate as many as possible.

I curse every cent of that $2.5 million and every other cent ISIS makes on it's selling of women and children. May it bring nothing but destruction upon those who use it.

Italian Priest Arrested for Using Gay Dating App for Teen Sex

His bishop may be complicit in enabling the pedophilia

It's unbloody believable that this stuff is still going on in the Catholic Church. The Pope has to follow judicial action with action of his own that will send a clear message to pedophile priests and sympathetic bishops that this is no longer tolerable. He also has to find a way to screen pedophiles out of joining the priesthood

Police in Italy have arrested a Catholic priest after it was uncovered he had been using a gay dating app to have sex with teenage boys. It’s also alleged his bishop helped cover up the priest’s actions.

Messignadi, Calabria, Italy
Antonello Tropea, a parish priest in Messignadi, Calabria in southern Italy, first caught the attention of authorities after police found him in a car with a teenage boy in a secluded area.

At the time, he told police he was the boy’s physical education teacher. Italian media also report that "suspicious items" were found in the priest’s bag.

Detectives launched an investigation which spanned two months and uncovered that Tropea was organizing dates with teens on the dating app Grindr under the guise of being a sales rep named Nicholas, after the patron saint of his parish, San Nicola di Mira. Most of the encounters took place in Tropea’s car but he also met with some males at his church rectory.

Police found numerous files containing homosexual content, including videos and images, on Tropea’s smartphone, as well as records of messages seeking out sexual encounters with both men and underage teens, some of whom he paid, Inquieto Notizie reports.

Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper reports that Tropea’s bishop, Francesco Milito, has also been under investigation for knowingly allowing such behavior.

Prosecutors claim Milito ignored rumors, as well as a letter supposedly written by a nun, about Tropea’s antics, and reportedly told the priest to "avoid speaking to the police."

10 Arrested in Washington State Online Child-Sex Sting

The State Patrol’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force held a 2-week operation

Ten people arrested allegedly believed they were going to have sex with underage children

Eight men and one woman have been criminally charged

Pierce Co., Washington

A two-week operation dubbed Net Nanny ended with 10 arrests of people who allegedly showed up to have sex with children in Pierce County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The department’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force oversaw the sting, which ended Saturday.

Undercover detectives posed online as underage girls or parents selling their children for sex and arranged meetings with nine men and one woman. When the people showed up, they were taken into custody.

“It’s good to be proactive, and we have to keep changing what we do,” said detective Sgt. Carlos Rodriguez, who heads the task force. “If we hadn’t been there to greet them, it would have been a child or a parent there to pimp out their kid.”

The task force last held a sting in August and netted nine arrests.

Other agencies involved in the recent operation included Tacoma police, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations and the State Attorney’s Office.

The following people have been charged in Pierce County Superior Court:

▪ Anthony Ray Blankenship, 32, of Tacoma. He pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes and was ordered held on $50,000 bail.

He believed he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl when he made plans to meet at a gas station for sex, according to charging papers.

When detectives arrested him, Blankenship allegedly called himself a “super citizen,” claiming he only met the girl to talk to her.

▪ Charles Andrew Drury, 50, of Puyallup. He pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree rape of a child and attempted commercial sex abuse of a minor and was ordered held on $250,000 bail.

He thought he was talking to the mother of three young girls and asked to have sex with the 8-year-old and 11-year-old, documents show.

▪ Jehran Steven Franklin, 20, of Puyallup. He pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree rape of a child and was ordered held on $200,000 bail.

An undercover detective responded to a personal ad he’d placed on Craigslist and pretended to be a 13-year-old girl, according to charging papers. Franklin allegedly made plans to meet the girl for sex.

▪ Kenneth Paul Zimmerman, 57, of Puyallup. He pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree rape of a child and was ordered held on $200,000 bail.

He allegedly posted an ad online saying that he was “looking for a young little girl” and agreed to meet an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl for sex.

▪ Eric Kermit Jacobsen, 48, of Enumclaw. He pleaded not guilty to attempted commercial sex abuse of a minor and was ordered held on $250,000 bail.

Jacobsen believed he was chatting with the mother of three young girls and made plans to pay for sex with an 11-year-old girl, records show.

He allegedly showed up for the meeting with Skittles, lube and condoms.

▪ Paul Anthony Carson, 59, of Olympia. He pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree child rape and was ordered held on $150,000 bail.

An undercover detective posing as a mother of three young girls agreed to let him have sex with her 11-year-old daughter. Carson said during their chat that he enjoyed the “father/daughter dynamic,” according to charging papers.

▪ Manuel Antonio Figueroa, 37, of Federal Way. He pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree child rape and attempted commercial abuse of a minor and was ordered held on $250,000 bail.

Figueroa thought he was agreeing to sex with a 13-year-old he met online, but it was actually an undercover detective, documents show.

▪ Robert John Quintero, 49, and Shelley Dianne Harper, 51, of Vancouver, Washington. They were charged with attempted first-degree child rape and attempted commercial sex abuse of a minor and held on $250,000 bail each.

The couple made plans to have sex with a 13-year-old boy, 11-year-old girl and 8-year-old girl and agreed to bring a gift certificate for the children, documents show.

The 10th person arrested has not yet been charged.

Vytas Kapociunas, 71, husband of Australia’s former ambassador to Spain, has been cleared of charges he was facing for allegedly engaging in sexual activities with a young girl at his home in Madrid, Spain. Kapociunas was cleared of charges on two counts of child sex abuse. However, the jury could not come to decision over a third charge.

Kapociunas, who is an artist, was living with his wife Jane Hardy who was the ambassador to Spain at that time. He faced a two-week trial before the ACT Supreme Court this month. He was facing three counts of charges for engaging in sexual activities other than intercourse with a minor.

The Canberra Times reported that the incidents allegedly happened in Kapociunas’ room in Madrid last year. Kapociunas denied the allegations brought against him. After the jury passed its verdict, he left the court along with his wife and refused to make a comment on it.

A month after Kapociunas was charged with the offence in October last year, Hardy ceased to be Australia’s ambassador to Spain. The matter on the undecided charge will be taken up in court in February.

Rotherham child sex abuse trial:
Alleged victim "lied to protect family"
ADELE FORREST

A FORMER “girlfriend” of alleged child sex abuse defendant Basharat Hussain told a court she lied in a police statement — but said she did it because she was finally escaping him.

Sheffield Crown Court heard today that the woman made the statement in 2003 when Hussain was arrested by police at Manchester Airport for drug offences after they returned from holiday, saying that their relationship had been “mainly fine” and he had never been violent towards her.

Ms Gillian Batts, for Hussain, said this was the truth and what she had told police recently about his physical and sexual abuse was a lie.

The woman said she had seen his arrest as her “escape” from him because police told her he was “going away for a long time” — at least seven years, she believed.

Ms Batts said this would have been the ideal opportunity to tell the police about her abuse.

She answered: “For who, to believe me? Why would I drag all that up? It was a relief they had got him and he had gone, that was my way out.”

Ms Batts said: “So you agree you lied in a statement to the police?”

The woman (33), said: “I lied to protect myself and my family.”

The defence barrister said that when a police officer visited the woman’s home in October 2013 she had been asked questions about certain people, including Hussain.

Ms Batts said the woman told police she had been in a relationship with him but was not a victim of abuse.

The witness replied: “I said that because I didn’t want any more to do with it, I didn’t want to go through that horrible feeling. I said that to just end it all.”

The woman said she went to the police five months later in March 2014 because the visit had caused her to suffer from depression and flashbacks and she felt she needed to finally tell someone.

Ms Batts suggested that some of the claims she had made about being forced into oral sex, being bound and having petrol poured over her, were identical to references made in the independent enquiry (Jay report) she had heard about in the news.

Ms Batts said: “You have taken your inspiration for your allegations from the contents of this enquiry.”

She replied: “They are not inspirations, it was my life.”

Ms Batts added: “Every allegation you have made is set out on page one of that report.”

The witness answered: “I have not read a report, that was my life, not a story, no coincidence.”

Mr Tair Khan, for co-defendant Arshid Hussain, said the woman’s claims that Arshid forced her to perform oral sex on men were fabricated.

Arshid Hussain
The woman said there was no doubt in her mind it had been Arshid who had blindfolded, tied her up and forced her to carry out the sex acts. She said he was present for around three of the times it had happened.

A statement from the complainant’s mother was read to the jury. In it she said she did not see Basharat and her daughter’s relationship as normal and he seemed to control her.

She said her daughter became withdrawn and Basharat would “just let himself into our house and go straight up to her room”.

She added: “He would never say hello, I thought he was rude and disrespectful.”

Bizarre! No wonder the girl had problems.

The jury has now been released from the trial for the Christmas break and will return on January 4.

Arshid and Basharat Hussain deny all the charges against them.

Rotherham child sex abuse trial:
Accused "poisoned victim's pet cats"

ADELE FORREST
In the same trial as above...
Sheffield Law Courts
UK - ALLEGED multiple sex offender cruelly poisoned a victim's pet cats, a court heard.

The woman says Basharat Hussain (38), who is accused of 15 child sex abuse offences, did not tell her why he had poisoned the animals.

“I just found them in the garden think it was when I was about 18,” she recalled in a police interview shown to Sheffield Crown Court.

“I loved them two cats they were brother and sister I found them in the garden curled up dead and he laughed.

“He said: ‘I've poisoned them’, I don't remember why.

“There had been nothing wrong with them up to that point, they were only young cats.”

Hussain denies all the charges against him.

The trial continues.

Report slams U.N. for "gross institutional failure" in child sex abuse cases

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations' "gross institutional failure" to act on allegations that French and other peacekeepers sexually abused children in the Central African Republic led to even more assaults, according to a new report released Thursday.

One young boy who initially reported an attack on his friends more than a year ago now says he has been raped, too.

"These children were betrayed by the very people sent to protect them"
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

The independent panel found that the accounts by children as young as 9 of trading oral sex and other acts in exchange for food in the middle of a war zone in early 2014 were "passed from desk to desk, inbox to inbox, across multiple U.N. offices, with no one willing to take responsibility."

Among those said to have looked the other way were the U.N. children's agency, UNICEF, as well as human rights staffers.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a statement, expressed "profound regret that these children were betrayed by the very people sent to protect them" and said he accepted the panel's broad findings.

The panel, led by Canadian judge Marie Deschamps, found that U.N. staffers failed or hesitated to pass the children's allegations to more senior officials, sometimes because of political concerns with France involved; showed "unconscionable delays" in protecting and supporting the children; failed to further investigate the allegations; failed to properly vet peacekeepers for past abuses; and, overall, appeared more concerned with whether one U.N. staffer had improperly alerted French authorities.

"The welfare of the victims and the accountability of the perpetrators appeared to be an afterthought, if considered at all," the report says.

As of now, more than a year and a half after U.N. staffers first heard the children's allegations of sexual abuse, no one has been arrested. Four French soldiers were questioned last week and released without charge, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. They have not been publicly identified.

Sudan: Child Sex Abuse On the Rise in Sudan Capital

Khartoum — The Sudanese Ministry of Health has warned for a growing number of cases of sexual abuse of children in Khartoum state.

Khartoum, Sudan
Addressing a forum on gender-based violence in Khartoum on Thursday, Dr Ibrahim Abdelrahman, director of the Health Ministry's Primary Health Care Department, reported that the number of rapes of children, especially school children, has risen rapidly this year.

Surveys conducted by the Health Ministry in schools in the Sudanese capital this year showed a significant increase in mental health disorders among school students. It turned out that an increasing number of children have been sexually harassed or raped at home.

Abdelrahman announced that his Ministry has decided to establish new mental health clinics "to face this dangerous phenomenon".

Batoul Abdelrahman, director of the Ministry's Women and Child Health Department, noted "a significant deterioration in the mental health of women and children across the country".

She attributed the increased number of suicides and other violent deaths recorded among women and children to "the proliferation of manifestations of violence across Sudan".

Sudan, Africa
'Peripheries'

In July, El Jareeda newspaper published a report about sexual abuses against children in the capital.

The chairman of the National Union of Mentally Disabled People, Dr Yasir Mohamed Mousa, said that more than 3,500 cases of sexual abuse against children were recorded in 2014 and early 2015.

He noted that many rape cases against minors occur in Khartoum's peripheral districts, particularly in El Baraka, El Haj Yousif, Mayo, Mandela, Gabousho, and El Nasir, where there are no police stations and most of the residents are displaced people from the war zones of Darfur, the Blue Nile, and the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan".

According to a teacher of the Lubaba Basic School in El Nasir district, southern Khartoum, eleven of the school's pupils were raped at home. Six of the cases resulted in pregnancies.

He claimed that the crimes reported to the police represent less than five percent of the actual rape cases.

Any victim of sexual violence has to report the incident to the police by filling out a Form 8. Obtaining this form used to be obligatory for victims before being allowed treatment at a hospital until 2005 when the law was revised. Yet an international women's initiative reported three years ago about confusion among the Sudanese police, medics, and victims about the use of the form.

‘Britain’s most prolific dad’ found guilty of child sex abuse
Richard Hartley-Parkinson for Metro.co.uk

Michael Redman has been told to expect a lengthy jail term

Surrey, UK - A man nicknamed Britain’s most prolific dad after fathering 28 children has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Michael Redman used his job as a bus driver to meet women and boasted of his parenting capabilities after reproducing with nine different women.

He’s now been convicted of repeated indecent assaults on a girl from the ages of 12 to 15.

He molested the girl and forced her to pose for degrading images and sexually assaulted her in woodland in Frensham, Surrey.

Redman was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault on a child, two counts of assault by penetration and four counts of making indecent pictures.

He’s fathered 28 children with nine women

His victim told police: ‘He would make me pose naked for him. He would feel my breasts while he was taking photos of me and he would put his fingers inside me.

‘He would make me lie in various poses on my bed when I wasn’t wearing anything. He would also drive me to the woods and take pictures of me there.

‘He would undress me and touch me and he told me I would like it.’

Redman’s crime eventually came to light when the victim told her own father about what had happened.

Judge Peter Moss told him to expect a lengthy prison sentence.
