3-year-old girl raped and murdered after mom allegedly

traded her for crack cocaine

By News.com.au
April 28, 2023 11:04am  Updated

When 3-year-old Luz Maida was awakened by her mother in the middle of the night and pushed into the arms of a strange man, she could not understand what was happening.

The little girl had allegedly just been sold by her mother, Aurelia Salinas, to her drug-dealer boyfriend.

Salinas, 42, reportedly made the exchange for 30 pieces of crack cocaine, worth about $12.

What police say happened next is truly unimaginable.

The unthinkable act, which happened in Pedro Juan Caballero, the capital city of Paraguay, was captured on CCTV, and heartbreakingly shows little Luz trying to tear herself away from her captor.

Actually, Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay. Pedro Juan Caballero is the capital of the Amambay Department.

Luz can be seen wearing a blue dress emblazoned with Disney’s “Frozen” characters, as the man treks down a dirty path with her slung over his shoulder.

Luz Maida, 3, was allegedly traded by her mother to her drug-dealer boyfriend in exchange for crack cocaine, and 24 hours later, her body was found in an abandoned house.
Newsflash

He can be seen slapping her with his free hand to stop her fidgeting, the Sun reports.

Just over 24 hours later, the girl’s body was found by horrified neighbors inside an abandoned house.

Her corpse was found covered in a shirt and placed on top of a bed after the dealer, who has not been named, reportedly raped and murdered the 3-year-old, a report by the Daily Mail states.

Initial reports suggest the 3-year-old was suffocated.

Newsflash

Enraged locals attempted to lynch Salinas as she was being arrested after allegedly confessing her involvement in her daughter’s murder to police, local media said.

Her boyfriend later confessed to the murder, the report added.

Salinas initially told police Luz had disappeared in her sleep, but after cops discovered the CCTV footage, she admitted to selling her for crack cocaine.

The 42-year-old has been arrested along with her boyfriend and another 17-year-old who is also believed to be involved.

Cops have allegedly said Salinas was under the influence of drugs and seemed unbothered about her daughter’s whereabouts while they searched for her.

It has also been reported that more than 300 locals attended Luz’s funeral and a group of neighbors later burned down the house where her corpse was discovered.

Investigators have claimed the family had a “history of tragedies” after the mom of eight allegedly allowed her 12-year-old daughter to be sexually abused by a 30-year-old man.

And after that, she was still able to maintain custody of her other children? How can that be?

Both cases are undergoing investigation.

Rochdale man jailed for child rape and catalogue of abuse

28 April 2023

A "prolific sexual predator" who raped a child and abused multiple other children in his home has been jailed.

Gerald Glancy from Rochdale admitted a catalogue of offences, including rape, sexual activity with a child and causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the 85-year-old had exploited his victims' "vulnerability without any thought to the impact his abuse may have on them".

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the court heard about Glancy's "horrific sexual abuse" of 24 young victims.

A CPS representative said between October 2018 and June 2022, Glancy was regularly engaging in sexualised conversations with children "over web chats", which he then recorded.

During those conversations, he incited them to engage in sexual activity, whilst he himself engaged in a sexual act.

They said Glancy had also been abusing children in his home and several devices were recovered by GMP from his address which contained still and moving photographs of Glancy engaging in sexual activity with children.

'Sickening'

GMP said Glancy admitted possessing indecent images of children after being arrested in February 2021 and "was therefore breaching a previous sexual prevention order".

The force said it seized four mobile telephones, five hard drives, five flash drives and two cameras.

The CPS said the devices were sent for forensic analysis, but Glancy "continued to engage with children over web chat and committed further offences".

GMP said officers returned to Glancy's home in June 2022, "based on intelligence received by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children", and found a further five unauthorised devices.

They said Glancy admitted making more than 47,000 images of children, taking at least 200 "category C" images and distributing two "category A" images.

Speaking after sentencing, Alex Mann said Glancy was such "a prolific sexual predator" that it had not been possible to identify all of his victims.

"The abuse he subjected children to was sickening," he said.

"He exploited their vulnerability without any thought to the impact his abuse may have on them."

Det Ch Insp Suzanne Keenaghan added that those who had provided "valuable support" in the case should be commended for their bravery.

"We know it’s been an extremely harrowing time for them," she said.

"Glancy is the worst kind of offender and we are pleased that this predator is no longer on the streets and will not be able to hurt children ever again."

A former high-ranking Comanchero bikie has been charged with sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl, supplying her with prohibited drugs and sexually assaulting another woman.

Ian “Clisso” Clissold
, 60, has been behind bars since February, when he was arrested and charged with several historical offences related to domestic violence and child sexual abuse allegations.

A 29-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by the former Comanchero sergeant-at-arms between 2017 and 2021, prompting a police investigation in October last year.

As part of that investigation, police spoke with a further two women – aged 19 and 39 – who also made allegations against Clissold, a NSW Police statement read.

Police will allege Clissold sexually abused the 19-year-old when she was aged between nine and 13 and supplied her with prohibited drugs when she was aged between 11 and 13.

Police will also allege Clissold assaulted the 39-year-old woman on multiple occasions and threatened her with a firearm.

Clissold was arrested at Bathurst police station after being transported from jail on April 19.

He was charged with grooming a child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, three counts of aggravated indecency with a victim under 16 as an under-authority offender; two counts of supplying a prohibited drug in a small quantity to child as an adult and supplying a prohibited drug.

He was also charged with four counts of domestic violence-related common assault, possessing an unauthorised pistol, two counts of attempting to stalk/intimidate with the intent to fear or harm and domestic violence-related assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He appeared at Penrith Local Court on Friday and is set to face court again on May 12.

By Bob Dale
BBC News

A man and a woman have been jailed for child sex offences.

Tristan Goodwin
, 24, from Edinburgh Road, Chatham, and Angel Fuller, 19, from Churchill Avenue, Chatham, pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.

Goodwin received eight and a half years, and Fuller four and a half years, both will be on the sex offenders register for life.

Police said the offences were committed between May 2021 and January 2022.

Goodwin paid Fuller to introduce him to the victims.

Goodwin admitted raping a child, arranging the commission of a child sex offence, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, paying for the sexual services of a child and possession of indecent images.

Fuller was charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a child and arranging the commission of a child sex offence.

Detectives also discovered Goodwin had groomed two children over social media in 2020, persuading them to send him indecent images before meeting and sexually assaulting them.

'Vulnerable victims'

Goodwin will serve a further four years on licence, and both he and Fuller have been made the subject of sexual harm prevention orders.

Det Con Grant Broad said: "Goodwin and Fuller worked together to target young, vulnerable victims and their depraved actions will leave a lasting impact on the victims' lives.

"I wish to commend the courage of these vulnerable victims in supporting this investigation and ensuring a dangerous predator has been held to account for his appalling actions."

Clackamas County deputy charged with sexually abusing child in Salem

by Ardeshir Tabrizian
on April 28, 2023

A Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been charged in Marion County with repeatedly molesting a child in Salem over a four-month period.

Prosecutors charged Cenobio Jauregui, 37 of Salem, on Thursday, April 27, in Marion County Circuit Court with five counts of first-degree sexual abuse, according to court documents.

The charges allege that Jauregui sexually abused a child under 14 years old, according to the charging document filed by Marion County prosecutors.

Jauregui is on unpaid administrative leave from his Clackamas County job for multiple on-duty policy violations and potential criminal conduct unrelated to the Salem incidents, according to John Wildhaber, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office conducted an independent criminal investigation into that conduct and submitted their case to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.

Earlier this week, the Salem Police Department notified the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office that it was conducting “an unrelated criminal investigation into his off-duty conduct involving a family member,” according to Wildhaber.

He said Jauregui will remain on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of a professional standards investigation.

The state Department of Corrections hired Jauregui in January 2020 as a corrections officer at the Oregon State Penitentiary, the only maximum-security prison in Oregon.

There, he was promoted to correctional corporal in July 2021. He resigned in March 2022, according to corrections department spokeswoman Jennifer Black.

Jauregui was hired two weeks later by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office as a probationary jail deputy in March 2022, according to records of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, the state agency tasked with licensing officers and investigating complaints of misconduct.

The records show he took a leave of absence on March 4, nearly two months before Salem police arrested him on Wednesday, April 26.

Jauregui was being held as of Friday at the Marion County Jail on $250,000 bail, the jail’s roster showed.

He is accused of sexually abusing the child five times between December 2022 and April.

First-degree sexual abuse is a Class B felony which carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Marion County Circuit Judge Pro Tem Matthew Tracey on Thursday ordered Jauregui to have no contact with minors or gather anywhere minors congregate if he is released on bail.

He is scheduled to enter a plea at a May 5 hearing, court records showed.

Records of DPSST show no pending investigation by the state’s police licensing agency related to Jauregui’s charges in Marion County. His law enforcement certification was active as of Friday, the agency’s records show.

The agency opened  an investigation into Jauregui in January 2020, two days before he was hired at the state penitentiary, related to previous criminal convictions in California.

Jauregui was convicted of misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license in March 2008, according to an October 2020 report by DPSST.

The agency couldn’t locate a police report, according to the DPSST memo. Jauregui told investigators he had left a note on the car he had struck and was later cited by police.

He also received deferred judgment related to a 2008 incident for failure to appear in court on a traffic citation and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors, as well as failure to signal. He completed a diversion program and the charges were dismissed, according to the report.

The Board on Public Safety Standards and Training decided in October 2020 to take no action against Jauregui’s certification.

Trial roundup: Jury recommends five life sentences in

child sexual abuse case

The Norman Transcript, Okla.
Fri, April 28, 2023 at 6:52 AM PDT·2 min read

A man convicted of sexual abuse will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after a Cleveland County jury recommended multiple life sentences.

Jurors deliberated for 3.5 hours Friday before finding Jesus Fuentes, 37, guilty of 12 counts of child sexual abuse. They recommended five life sentences and 60 years in prison as punishment.

The jury also found co-defendant Martha Fuentes guilty of one count of enabling child sexual abuse and recommended a 5-year prison sentence.

Both defendants are scheduled to be sentenced by District Judge Thad Balkman on June 21.

District Attorney Greg Mashburn praised the "diligent" work of his prosecutors.

"Child sexual abuse cases can be some of the most challenging cases to bring in front of a jury, but they were able to seek justice and represent the victim in this case," Mashburn said in a news release.

"It also takes a lot of strength for a victim to stand up to their abuser in open court. We are very thankful that the victim in this case had the strength to tell her story. We hope it inspires other victims to come forward with their stories as well."

Creepy Marine recruiter accused of grooming, raping LI HS student,

A married US Marine Corps recruiter who counseled sexual assault victims is charged with grooming and raping a 16-year-old Long Island girl — admitting to her, “I’m a dirty old man and you love it,” according to the victim.

Staff Sgt. Mason H. Wallace
, 28, was charged with third-degree rape after allegedly manipulating the teen’s interest in the military to spark the depraved relationship.

“I would look back at my messages with him and he said some weird things. At the time, I didn’t notice it was like grooming, but it is grooming,” the victim exclusively told The Post.

Wallace, who served as a sexual assault advocate for the Marines before becoming a recruiter out of Patchogue, met the victim during his first recruiting visit to Longwood High School in October, the teen revealed.

“He continued to speak to her about enlisting all this time as if the Marine Corps were his pimp and he their prostitute,” the victim’s mother revealed to The Post.

As a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocate with the Marines, Wallace was tasked with helping sexual assault victims recover from their attacks, serving as a go-between for resources and information.

Yuba City man sentenced to 24 years for sexually abusing girls

YUBA CITY - A 29-year-old Yuba City man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading no contest to two separate counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.

Marco Antonio Sandoval-Diaz was charged on September 27, 2022, with two counts of sexual acts with a child under the age of 10, each carrying a potential life sentence.

Sandoval-Diaz was the stepfather to both of his victims and supervised them while their mother went to work for the day. Between March 2016 and November 2019, Sandoval-Diaz sexually abused the two girls in their Yuba City residence, according to court documents. One of the victims reported the conduct to her school counselor, who then contacted Child Protective Services and the Police Department.

Sandoval-Diaz
MELISSA AKERS

Deputy District Attorney Tamara Squires negotiated a resolution that protected the victims and the community from Sandoval-Dias, the DA's office says. The resolution was reached after meeting with the victims' parents and learning that the two young victims were hoping the case would resolve without a trial.

"Those who perpetrate these crimes against the children are the worst type of criminals. These cases tend to be very difficult, as they require balancing the desire for ultimate justice with the need to protect these most vulnerable victims," said District Attorney Jennifer R. Dupré. "Deputy District Attorney Squires did an admirable job working with the family and striking that necessary balance for these courageous victims."

Sandoval-Diaz was sentenced in Sutter County District Court to 24 years in prison after pleading no contest to two separate counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.

Ex-Sumner coach charged with child rape, molestation of players

Ousted Sumner High School boys’ basketball coach Jake Jackson was charged Thursday with 10 crimes related to sexual abuse of six former players, including child rape and molestation, according to documents filed in Pierce County Superior Court.

The charges filed by the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office came nearly eight months after the first players told police that Jackson was a persistent presence in their smartphones, asking for and sending nude photos. One boy whose family has been longtime friends with Jackson told police he was subjected to sexual contact with Jackson more than 25 times over the course of two years beginning in 2019 while he was between 14 and 16 years old, leading to the child rape charge.

Jackson’s accusers told police he plied them with gifts and cash for odd jobs, and that they worried rejecting his advances would jeopardize their standing on the basketball team.

Jackson, 35, was served a summons Thursday to appear in court for arraignment on May 11 on one count of rape of a child in the third degree, two counts of third-degree child molestation, one count of sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree, five counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes — all felonies — and indecent exposure, a misdemeanor. Convictions on the felony charges each carry a possible prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of $10,000, and conviction on the misdemeanor holds the possibility of up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine, according to state sentencing guidelines.

Jackson’s lawyer, Brett Purtzer of Tacoma, said in an email that Jackson intends to plead not guilty to all counts but offered no further comment.

The investigation into the players’ allegations against Jackson was complicated because his accusers said most of the communications involving nude images were over the mobile app SnapChat, which is programmed to make messages disappear after 10 seconds. And the settings Jackson and the players used made the photos and videos irretrievable for investigators. The investigation was also delayed by a backlog of processing DNA evidence at the Washington State Patrol’s crime lab, leaving some of his accusers and their parents wondering if he would ever be charged. That evidence has now been processed.

Jackson’s accusers and their families expressed relief in a statement released by their lawyer, Loren Cochran of Tacoma. “The criminal charges acknowledge that Jackson used his influence and power as a school authority figure to traumatize those children he was entrusted to protect,” the emailed statement said.

The players and their families, whose identities remain anonymous in court filings, have expressed frustration that Jackson was allowed to resign from his job last October, more than five weeks after the investigation focusing on him was publicly reported and he’d been placed on leave. Jackson did not teach at the school and was primarily employed by his father-in-law’s sports apparel firm. The accusers reiterated their frustration Friday over the prosecuting attorney’s decision to allow Jackson to appear in court on a summons in lieu of arrest, calling it “preferential treatment” in the statement their attorney released.

“I feel anxious. I don’t feel any better. Although it’s a relief that he’s been charged, I thought it would make me feel better,” one of Jackson’s accusers said in a phone interview.

The boy and his father both said they view Jackson as a flight risk because he has financial means and personal connections to two other states.

“I’m uber-concerned about what’s going to play out before his court date,” the boy’s father said in a phone interview. “We live within a couple miles of this guy and see him frequently in the community. It’s hard. He’s picking up his kids at our schools, running into him at a gas station, seeing him on TV walking into a Mariners game. This makes you sick, because he’s still out here living his best life.”

Sumner police Chief Brad Moericke commended the members of his two-detective department who built the case against Jackson. “They followed every lead, which meant weeks of gathering mounds of physical and digital evidence,” he said in a written statement. “I appreciate everyone’s patience and perseverance.”

The investigation into Jackson began a week before school started last fall when two students told police Jackson had pressured them to share nude photos with him. As police followed leads provided by the initial accusers, more came to them and shared stories of Jackson asking for and sharing nude photos, primarily over social media. One boy told police he had an unbroken streak of more than 300 days receiving SnapChat messages on his phone from Jackson. Another accuser told police he had a 360-day streak of SnapChat messages from Jackson, according to charging documents.

Police executed seven search warrants based on the boys’ statements, collecting social media data for Jackson and his accusers and DNA samples, and seizing a swatch of carpet and a portion of the baseboard from Jackson’s shoe closet.

SnapChat app protocols prevented police from finding useful evidence on that platform, according to charging documents. But a search warrant for communications on the mobile app Instagram revealed one instance when an accuser shared a photo of his penis with Jackson, and “Jackson responded that he loved it,” according to the documents.

One player told police that Jackson masturbated in his presence in a walk-in shoe closet at Jackson’s residence on the shores of Lake Tapps, and another told detectives that Jackson touched him inappropriately while masturbating in the same closet at least 15 times, charging documents said. In December, that accuser went back to police and told them that Jackson had compelled him into mutual oral sex at least 10 times in that closet, and once propositioned him for intercourse, according to the charging document filed Thursday by Pierce County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Bryce Nelson. Prosecuting Attorney Mary Robnett accused Jackson of engaging in sexual intercourse with the boy.

DNA evidence collected from three places in Jackson’s closet revealed Jackson’s DNA conclusively, but did not conclusively identify the boy’s DNA, although it provided “limited support” that the boy’s DNA was present. The Washington State Patrol received the samples in January, according to a spokesperson, and only recently completed the analysis.

Sumner High hired Jackson in 2016 after he coached four seasons at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. Police have attempted to contact former Peninsula High players, but said they know of no accusations from Jackson’s time there.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The stepdaughter of a former Lake Elsinore Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints elder was awarded over $2.28 billion in damages this week in a civil suit, her attorney Gary A. Dordick reported.

The victim, referred to as Jane Doe to protect her identity, claimed her stepfather sexually assaulted her from when she was 5 until she was 14 years old. She is now 41. The attorneys say this is the largest award for a victim of childhood sexual assault, though she will likely never see a fraction of the money. That was never the point, according to Dordick.

After closing arguments, it took three days to deliberate, and the stepfather never came to court, according to Dordick.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints denied any wrongdoing but settled out of court before the jury returned with the jaw-dropping verdict. The church will pay $1 million, and the victim's mother will pay $200,000, according to Dordick. That amount is a mere fraction of the jury's decision ordering the defendant to pay $836 million in general damages and $1.44 billion in punitive damages.

Child Sexual Assault Cases On The Rise Due To 2022's 'Look-Back' Window

The case is one of many that was filed at the end of 2022 during the 'look-back' window, where adults were able to file civil suits against child sexual abusers years after the fact. Many recent civil cases against large organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Church, SeaCoast Grace megachurch in Cypress and prominent celebrities such as boxer George Foreman were filed during a period of time known as the 'look-back' window. Victims were able to seek recompense in cases dating back decades. That look-back window closed on Dec. 31, 2022.

'You’re a groomer and molester': Former Marietta school teacher

sentenced to 10 years in child sex abuse case

The creep was also a music minister at a church in Morrow

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A former Marietta school teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to child sex abuse charges, according to a release from the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Well, at least he looks good in orange...

It was announced Friday that Freddie Early pleaded guilty to two counts of child molestation earlier this week.

The 50-year-old pleaded guilty in connection to a child sex abuse case stemming from two years ago. On Jan. 11, 2021, a child told one of his middle school teachers that he and his younger brother had been abused by a family friend between October and December of 2020.

That family friend was later identified as Early.

Detectives learned that Early had groomed the two children while working as a school teacher aid at Dunleith Elementary school in Marietta. He was also a music minister at Reset Church in Morrow.

Early, who also attended the children’s church “from time to time,” bought gifts for the children. He also took them to dinners and let them hang out at his house, the release said.

The abuse began when he walked around his home “with his private parts exposed,” making sexual comments to the two young boys.

One of the brothers even recorded a time when Early "[made] sexually explicit comments to them,” the release said.

Once investigators learned about Early's behavior, he was arrested. Following the arrest, he surrendered his teaching license, the release said.

Superior Court Judge Ann B. Harris spoke after the two victims spoke of the abuse at a plea hearing.

“You’re a groomer and molester," Harris said. "You preyed on the trust of two motherless teenage boys who needed someone. You victimized them then and again today. This is shameful conduct. I can’t fix what happened, but I can make sure there are no more victims.”

Once Early is released from prison, he will serve 10 years on probation, the release said.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Police have arrested an employee of a Sandy Springs private school they say is accused of the possession of child pornography.

Thursday afternoon, the Sandy Springs Police Department say they arrested Christopher James Winslow and charged him with two counts of the sexual exploitation of children.

Winslow was the chief financial officer of the Mount Vernon School, a private school that teaches students from preschool through 12th grade. He has since been fired from the school.

According to investigators, Winslow is accused of possessing "child sex abuse material."

In a statement, a school spokesperson says that there is no indication from law enforcement that any of its students or any other employees were involved.

"This is devastating news for everyone, and we are committed to supporting law enforcement's investigation however we can," the spokesperson told FOX 5. "The safety and well-being of our students is our most important priority, and for that reason, Mr. Winslow, will no longer be part of our School community moving forward."

The Sandy Springs Police Department is working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to identify any alleged victims. The investigation is ongoing.

FOX 5 asked more than a dozen parents at the Mount Vernon school Friday for their reaction. None wanted to speak.

New Deep-fake child sexual abuse technology sends Quebec man to prison for 8 years

..

I would like to have seen a sentence two or three times as long, but 8 years is a long sentence in criminal-friendly Canada.

WARNING: This article contains details of abuse.

A Quebec man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for using artificial intelligence to produce synthetic videos of child pornography.

Steven Larouche, 61, of Sherbrooke, Que., pleaded guilty to creating at least seven videos with so-called deepfake technology, which is used to superimpose the face of an individual onto the body of another person.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing hundreds of thousands of computer files of child pornography, for which he was sentenced an additional four and a half years.

Provincial court judge Benoit Gagnon wrote in his ruling, issued earlier this month, that he believes this was the first case in the country involving deepfakes of child sexual exploitation.

He said he worries what will happen as criminals use the technology to put the faces of children whose images they find on social media onto videos of other children being sexually assaulted.

"The use of deepfake technology in criminal hands is chilling. The type of software allows crimes to be committed that could involve virtually every child in our communities," Gagnon wrote in the April 14 decision.

"A simple video excerpt of a child available on social media, or a video of children taken in a public place, could turn them into potential victims of child pornography."

Gagnon wrote that the creation of new images of sexual abuse encourages the market for child pornography, which craves novelty, and puts children at risk by "fuelling fantasies that incite sexual offences against children."

While Larouche's lawyers argued for a lighter sentence, because children were not assaulted when he produced the videos, the judge wrote that the children whose bodies appeared in the videos had their sexual integrity violated again.

Complicating police investigations

Many images of child sexual exploitation have a digital fingerprint, allowing police to identify them, the judge wrote. By creating the synthetic images, Larouche made it more difficult for police to stop the spread of the illicit material.

Larouche also admitted to possessing more than 545,000 computer files containing images or videos of child sexual abuse, some of which he made available to others.

Among those images was a series of one girl being abused over a seven-year period, between the ages of seven and 14. On Larouche's computer, police also found photos of her from her social media accounts and personal information about the child, including her real name, the town where she lives and the name of her school.

In total, Gagnon sentenced Larouche to eight years in prison. With credit for time served, Larouche will be required to serve another five years and 11 months.

Canadian law bans any visual representation of someone depicted as being under the age of 18 engaged in explicit sexual activity.

Stephen Sauer, the director of Cybertip.ca, said that while there have been earlier cases of people creating synthetic images of child sexual abuse in more rudimentary ways, such as with Photoshop, this may be the first time someone in Canada has been sentenced for creating material using deepfake technology.

"We're almost in this unprecedented time where any child can be harmed as a result of this type of material. So you can grab any image online and create this type of imagery and harm them in any number of ways," he said in an interview Wednesday.

The synthetic images not only humiliate the victims, violating their dignity and privacy, but people could also seek those children out to sexually assault them, Sauer said.

"It creates a safety risk for that child, because there are individuals out there who will seek to identify individuals in sexual abuse imagery."

Child luring and exploitation through Snapchat is on the rise. Here's what you should look out for Vasileia Karasavva, a masters student in clinical psychology at the University of British Columbia who co-wrote a 2021 paper on the threat of deepfake pornography, said the technological bar for creating videos this way keeps getting lower.

The technology is getting easier to use and the number of images required to put someone's face into a video is also declining, she said in an interview Wednesday, adding that apps can be used to scrape images of an individual from their social media accounts.

She said deepfake pornography has two victims: the person whose body appears in the video, as well as the person whose face appears.

While there's little research on the specific impact of deepfake pornography on victims, research on other forms of online sexual violence shows it often affects victims in similar ways to in-person sexual assaults.

"This victimization continues, as well," Karasavva said. "It's very public. Very often, it's very permanent, and the victim feels very helpless and powerless in that situation."

And ruthlessly violated!

Iran charges two actresses for not wearing hijab

Al Jazeera, April 24, 2023:

Tehran, Iran Two renowned actresses in Iran have been charged for not wearing headscarves, as authorities intensify efforts to crack down on people violating the country’s mandatory hijab laws.

Iranian state media reported on Tuesday that Tehran police have referred Katayoun Riahi and Pantea Bahram to the judiciary, accused of “the crime of removing their hijab in public and publishing its images in the virtual space”.

The well-known actresses could potentially face fines or prison terms if prosecuted.

Last week, photos of 53-year-old Bahram posing without a headscarf at a film screening went viral.

The 61-year-old Riahi, another veteran actress, was previously arrested in November on suspicion of “collusion against national security and propaganda against the establishment” after she became the first of her peers to post an image of herself online without a headscarf in support of nationwide protests that erupted in September.

The months-long protests began after Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman, died following her arrest by the country’s so-called “morality police” for allegedly not adhering to the country’s hijab laws, which were adopted shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

It was actually for wearing her hijab incorrectly!

During the protests, several other high-profile actresses, including Taraneh Alidoosti, took off their headscarves in solidarity and were subsequently arrested, prompting support from abroad.

A growing number of women across Iran have abandoned their mandatory hijabs since the protests, with streets and public places in Tehran and elsewhere increasingly seeing women without headscarves.

The authorities had largely refrained from cracking down on the women in public in recent months, and the green and white vans of the morality police have also been taken off the streets, but a notable shift has taken place this month.

Police chief Ahmadreza Radan, appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in January amid speculations about his predecessor’s shortcomings during the protests, has promised to “seriously” deal with people violating hijab rules that are central to the Iranian government’s ideology……

Like most devout Muslim men, they like to keep their women largely invisible.

India: Muslims murder Muslim girl for being in love with Hindu boy

These “love jihad” incidents stem from supremacist assumptions. Muslim women are forbidden to marry non-Muslim men: “Do not marry idolatresses until they believe, for indeed, a believing slave woman is better than an idolatress, even though she pleases you. And do not give your daughters in marriage to idolaters until they believe, for indeed, a believing slave is better than an idolater, even though he pleases you. These people invite you to the fire, and Allah invites you to the garden, and to forgiveness by his grace, and explains his signs to mankind so that perhaps they will remember.” (Qur’an 2:221)

Gujarat: Kamu Sheikh, Sadiq, Ramzan, and two others allegedly murder Shaista

for being in love with Brijesh; Hindu boy seeks probe

OpIndia, April 25, 2023:

In a shocking case reported from the Navsari City of Gujarat, Mohammed Kamu Sheikh, Sadiq Mohammed Sheikh, Ramzan Sindhi, Siddiqi Sheikh, and Shoaib Sheikh have been accused of allegedly murdering a girl named Shaista. Shaista was in love with a Hindu boy named Brijesh and this is reportedly the reason the accused persons are said to have killed her.

According to the Navbharat Times, the Gujarat Police has received a complaint against the family members of Shaista. The complaint was registered by Brijesh, who alleged that the girl was brutally abused and beaten to death for falling in love with a Hindu boy. Brijesh also said that the family members secretly buried the dead body and tried to conceal the matter. He has demanded an investigation into the case and also a post-mortem of the dead body.

Brijesh and Shaista were in a romantic relationship. But the family members of Shaista were opposed to their relationship. They also had issued threats to Brijesh and had asked him to stay away from her….

According to Brijesh, Shaista was last seen on April 20 and after that, she was murdered. He has filed a complaint against five of her family members named Mohammed Kamu Sheikh, Sadiq Mohammed Sheikh, Ramzan Sindhi, Siddiqi Sheikh, and Shoaib Sheikh, and has demanded a post-mortem of the dead body.

Apart from Brijesh’s police complaint, it has also come to the fore that some notorious accused are also involved in the incident. One of them also runs a gambling den. Brijesh says that there are more persons involved in the crime. He also added that there is a threat to life as well. However, the father of Shaista has denied all the allegations and has said that she had committed suicide and also left a note before allegedly taking the extreme step. The police, however, are investigating the case from all angles.

Honour killing: Man burns wife alive in Pakistan’s Punjab province

Another was raped, then attacked with acid

PTI, April 26, 2023

A husband allegedly burnt his estranged wife alive in a case of so-called ”honour killing” while another woman came under acid attack after being raped in Punjab province of Pakistan, police said on Wednesday.

In the first incident, suspect Tariq allegedly burnt his 40-year-old wife Shazia for what he called ”disgracing the family’s honour” in Cheechawatni district, some 209 kms from Lahore, on Tuesday, police said.

Police official Ejaz Aslam said that Shazia had left Tariq a year ago after developing differences over domestic issues and started living with her parents’ house. Aslam said Tariq suspected that Shazia had relations with a man of his locality and on Tuesday he visited his in-laws and doused Shazia with petrol and set her ablaze and fled.

His action was apparently based on mere suspicions! This is justified in the Quran by Mohammed himself.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. She has left behind two daughters and four sons.

Police registered a case against Tariq and arrested him.

In a separate incident, two men threw acid on a married woman after raping her in Okara district, some 130kms from Lahore, on Tuesday.

Police officer Jahanzeb Wattoo said that main suspect Rizwan wanted to develop relations with Shahida Bibi, 30, but she refused.

On Tuesday, Rizwan along with his accomplice abducted her at gun point on her way to home and raped her at a deserted place. The suspects later threw acid on her face….

Islamic madness at its finest! This woman survived the attack but will never be the same again. I guess that's the point.

Pakistan: Muslim burns his wife alive for ‘disgracing the family’s honor’

In the Qur’an, a mysterious figure, known as Khidr in Islamic tradition, kills a boy in an apparently random and gratuitous attack. He then explains: “And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.” (18:80-81)

And according to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2).

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”
