Court documents reveal disturbing child sex abuse allegations against Maine couple
WMTW Jim Keithley

WATERVILLE, Maine —
New details have been released in the case of a Waterville couple accused in a disturbing case of child sex abuse.

The 10-page affidavit, which was recently unsealed, reveals in graphic detail what a 16-year-old girl said she endured over the course of four years.

The victim disclosed the sexual abuse allegations to a Department of Health and Human Services caseworker in February.

The teen said in the affidavit that Michael and Jennifer Stevens forced her to watch and participate in various sex acts and beat her with a belt.

The girl said the "sexual abuse occurred every day."

The alleged abuse happened between 2010 and 2014, beginning when the girl was nine years old, according to the affidavit.

In the court papers, the victim said the abuse made her so sick "she vomited and was made to swallow her own vomit."

The district attorney said more charges against the couple are likely because investigators confiscated cellphones that depict graphic photos of other children.

"It's so hard to even read about it, let alone to imagine what the child went through; this is particularly disturbing," Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said.

Maloney said the couple has seven daughters who are in protective custody.

Michael and Jennifer Stevens are being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $250,000 bail each.

Plea deal gives Missouri pervert just 4 months in jail
for 8 counts of sodomy!
And possibly thousands of sexual assaults on children
BY KERA MASHEK

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- A convicted sex offender is back on the streets tonight after just four months behind bars.

Joseph Mackey was initially charged with eight counts of sodomy but took a plea deal, admitting guilt to just one of those counts. The details of all the allegations are deeply disturbing, describing patterns of abuse lasting for years.

One mom says the thought of Mackey being a free man now, makes her shudder. "It’s ridiculous," said parent Carla York.

Last year, Mackey pleaded guilty to one count of sodomy, related to the sexual abuse of a teenage boy. A judge initially recommended five years in prison. Instead, Mackey was offered just four months shock time and then granted parole.

"In my opinion, that just tells men or women that you have a right to sexually molest somebody and just get a slap on the wrist and walk free again," York said.

Mackey worked as a doctor in Blue Springs, volunteering time as a team physician for Blue Springs Schools. He also led a Boy Scout troop. Carla York's son was in that troop and she says early on, she had concerns.

"It was never two-deep leadership with him like Scouts is supposed to be. He liked a lot of one-on-one which kind of got me thinking things weren’t right," said York.

She says Mackey also refused to have female troop leaders and was more "touchy-feely" with boys. A couple times, she suspected he was introducing drugs and alcohol to Scouts at camp.

"Just strange things and when I reported them, everybody’s like, 'Oh No. Joe’s an outstanding man. He’s a physician. He’s an Eagle Scout himself.' So it was kind of like dismissed," said York.

Court records spell out a disturbing pattern of abuse, including giving alcohol to minors before performing sex acts on them, both at his home and in his physician office. One victim told investigators he estimates over 10 years, Mackey abused him up to 200 times.

That's ridiculous! Hundreds of abuses, possibly thousands and he gets 4 months. Plea deals are only as good as the people who make them, and whoever made this deal has no concept or no interest in justice or protecting children. Someone should be fired!

"To this day I just sit there and I get sick to my stomach when I think about the things that could have happened to my son," York said.

Prosecutors say a short prison term is not unusual in these kinds of case, but do often invoke public concern.

York says the thought of Mackey being out of prison makes her cringe and she worries he's still a danger. Her takeaway is to never second-guess anything that seems off with an adult in your child's life.

"I can guarantee you if I see something that isn’t right, doesn’t sound, look, or feel right, I’m not going to someone above that person, I’m going to call the police. I’m going to make sure it’s investigated. It will never happen again," said York.

Mackey will be forced to register as a sex offender and has three days to tell the state where he's living. A judge denied Mackey's request to live with his wife and kids.

His release conditions also specify he cannot have contact with the victims or their families. He is not allowed to live with any minors, or have unsupervised contact with minors. Mackey cannot obtain employment or do volunteer work involving minors.

Back in October, one of the victims also won a major lawsuit against Joseph Mackey. Mackey was ordered to pay $120 million for that victim's pain and suffering.

Registered Idaho sex offender arrested for
child sex abuse

By JOHNATHAN HOGAN jhogan@postregister.com

A registered sex offender from Rigby has been arrested for lewd conduct with a minor.

Richard Laurence Bishop, 48, was arrested March 1 after a family reported Bishop had inappropriately touched and raped a 9-year-old girl he was babysitting.

Bishop pleaded guilty in 1995 to lewd conduct with a child under 16 and was required to register as a sex offender.

During a forensic interview the victim said Bishop had touched her inappropriately after she came home from school, and that he had kissed her on multiple occasions, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim said Bishop did not say anything during these incidents, which occurred at her home or in Bishop’s car.

The victim said she was afraid after the abuse was reported to police because she thought Bishop would come to her school to kidnap her. The girl’s mother contacted Bishop to receive assurance that he would not do anything to her daughter.

Bishop told police that about half of the pornography he looked at online was child pornography. He said he last looked at child pornography on Feb. 18. He denied having taken pictures of the victim.

Police did not find child pornography during an initial search on his phone. A special agent with Homeland Security Investigations performed a more thorough search of Bishop’s phone and laptop and found several images of the victim posing for the camera. Bishop was arrested shortly after.

Bishop acknowledged touching the victim sexually, but denied the rape allegation made by the victim. He said the victim had asked him to touch her and “he thought that it was what she wanted,” according to court records.

When asked about the victim’s posing, Bishop said she would ask him to take pictures of her, and that she had been watching videos of pole dancers on YouTube. The victim’s parents told police they had asked her to stop dancing at home after it became inappropriate.

A no-contact order was filed between Bishop and the victim. His bond was set at $75,000.

Lewd conduct with a child under 16 is punishable with up to life in prison. A no-contact hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. March 14. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. March 16.

Connecticut Man Gets 8 Years For
Sexually Abusing Children
David Owens

A Hartford man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three children was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison.

Israel Nieves, 47, was charged in January 2017 with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor for his crimes, which occurred over several years.

He pleaded guilty in January to three counts of risk of injury to a minor and three counts of fourth-degree sexual assault. Under the terms of the deal, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, suspended after eight years, and 10 years of probation. He must also register as a sex offender for 10 years upon his release from prison.

The children were known to Nieves. The mother of two of Nieves’ victims spoke at the sentencing Tuesday, telling Hartford Superior Court Judge Laura F. Baldini that Nieves made the children think he cared about them, then carried out his “revolting actions.”

“You robbed my children of their innocence and childhood,” she said. “You selfishly gratified your sexual desires … at the expense of two innocent children.”

The mother said she was angry that she allowed Nieves to manipulate her to get to her children, and said she will never again let her guard down.

Nieves said nothing when it came his turn to speak.

Former pediatrician facing new child sexual
abuse charges in Montana
Tiffany Tan Journal

A year after being charged with multiple child sex crimes in South Dakota, a former Pine Ridge pediatrician is now facing similar charges in Montana.

Federal court records unsealed Friday show that 69-year-old Stanley Patrick Weber was charged by a Montana grand jury last month with five new criminal counts. They are attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, attempted sexual abuse of a minor, abusive sexual contact of a minor and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Weber’s charging document states that between July 1993 and June 1995, he molested two Native American boys on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, located in northwest Montana. One of the boys was younger than 12 during the alleged incidents, and the other was 12 to 15 years old, according to the indictment filed Feb. 22.

Weber, of Spearfish, was a doctor on the Blackfeet reservation during this period. He worked there for the Indian Health Service from July 1992 to June 1995, IHS spokeswoman Jennifer Buschick told the Journal.

Weber pleaded not guilty to all the charges at the federal courthouse in Great Falls, Mont., Tuesday morning. He is tentatively scheduled for trial in May. His most serious charges — aggravated sexual abuse of a child and attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child — are each punishable by up to life in prison.

Weber was placed on an ankle monitor by the federal court in South Dakota after his indictment last February on 10 counts of child sexual abuse. The South Dakota offenses allegedly occurred after the ones in Montana.

Federal prosecutors in South Dakota say that between 1998 and 2011, Weber molested four Native children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where he worked at the IHS hospital as a pediatrician. He became the hospital’s acting clinical director at one point and resigned in 2016.

Weber’s South Dakota charges include aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse, each of which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. His trial date here is pending. Weber has hired five lawyers on his South Dakota case, including two Denver attorneys who have asked the court’s permission to also represent him in Montana.

The Montana court allowed Weber to remain free from jail on bond under the South Dakota District’s supervision. The conditions of his release include not having any contact with minors, according to court records.

In a related case, a former chief executive of the Pine Ridge Hospital is expected to plead guilty Friday to lying about accepting money from Weber while they were working together at the hospital.

It’s not clear why Weber gave Wehnona Stabler a $5,000 check, which she admitted not reporting in 2014 despite federal employment requirements.

Former airmen sentenced to 10 years in
child sex case in Delaware
By:  Tahja Cropper

DOVER, Del. - (AP) - A former Dover Air Force Base airman has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sex trafficking of a child.

Dalian Washington, who faced a potential life sentence, received the minimum mandatory sentence Tuesday from a federal judge in Wilmington.

In return for Washington's guilty plea, prosecutors dropped charges of sex abuse of a minor and conspiracy to commit child sex trafficking.

Washington and another airman, Akeem Beazer, were arrested last April after a young teen, who officials say had a troubled home life and often lived on the street, told a social worker that she had stayed on the military base and had sex with service members.

Beazer was sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to sexual abuse of a minor.

Utah police looking for victims after man admits to
sex abuse of multiple children over 20 years
By: Jenn Gardiner

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) - Last week, a Utah man was arrested after admitting to sexually abusing multiple children over the last twenty years and police are now looking for possible victims.

James Crawford, 43, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday after officers showed up at his home during an investigation of alleged abuse they had received. Crawford admitted to officers he had been abusing children for the last 10 years but originally told the officers it started when he was in his 20s.

"Based on statements made by the suspect it is believed that there is at least one recent victim that has not been identified, as well as victims possibly dating back 20 years," said in a statement issue by the Salt Lake City Police Department.

"James Crawford lived in the area of 800 East 200 South for the majority of his life. He may have come into contact with juvenile victims in this area in a variety of ways. Police are looking to hear from anyone that may have had contact with James over the last 20 years where he might have sexually assaulted them or someone they know."

Crawford also admitted to police he had abused a child under the age of 13 who he was babysitting on four different occasions, some of those in the presence of another child.

Crawford has been charged with five counts of felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child, felony sodomy of a child and misdemeanor lewdness of a child.

A quick search of Crawford's criminal record shows a civil stalking injunction granted against him in 2011 and a forcible sodomy charge in 2013 that was eventually dismissed.

He is currently being held on $150,000 bail.

Lakewood man admits to one of biggest
child porn collections in NJ history
Katie Park,

A Lakewood man whose devices stored one of the largest child pornography collections police ever seized in state history admitted Tuesday to owning the explicit content and attempting to reproduce images he had downloaded before, state officials said.

Anthony White, 31, had electronic devices, including a desktop computer, that stored more than 36,000 videos and pictures of child pornography, according to a statement from the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General.

White, who was one of 40 men arrested in 2016 during a child pornography sweep police called "Operation Statewide," pleaded guilty in Ocean County Superior Court before Judge Linda Baxter to second-degree charges of distributing child pornography and attempting to manufacture child pornography, the state said, adding that the operation was coordinated by the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Numerous other law enforcement agencies – from county prosecutor's offices to municipal police departments – are involved with the ICAC Task Force.

When authorities were investigating White, a detective with the New Jersey State Police's Digital Technology Investigations Unit was monitoring a peer-to-peer sharing network popular with sex offenders, the state said. From that network, the detective downloaded 38 videos and pictures of child pornography from a shared folder which had an internet protocol (IP) address that went back to White's home, the state said.

Members of the New Jersey State Police then executed a search warrant at White's home and arrested him July 20, 2016, the state said. At that time, White was charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

More than two dozen other men were arrested between late May and mid-August that year as part of Operation Statewide. Most of the defendants were charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

White pleaded guilty Tuesday under the terms of a plea deal and admitted he used file-sharing software to make available at least 25 files of child sexual abuse, and other users could download those files, the state said. White also said he tried to "reproduce" pictures of child pornography he had downloaded before, the state said.

The state said it will recommend White receive a state prison sentence of six years, which include three years of parole ineligibility. White will also be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and be on parole supervision for the rest of his life.

White was arrested several months before a new law that expanded New Jersey's criminal punishments for child pornography crime.

Under the law – referenced as S-3219 – White would have been classified by the state as a "super-possessor," which is defined by the law as a person who owns at least 1,000 items of child pornography.

In addition to labeling certain offenders as "super-possessors," the new law criminalizes possession and distribution of child erotica, and adjusts the threshold for what constitutes first-, second- and third-degree child possession charges.

Owning at least 100,000 items of child pornography warrants a first-degree possession charge under the law. Owning less than 100,000 files but more than 1,000 is a second-degree charge, and having at least 1,000 items is a third-degree charge.

White is scheduled to be sentenced May 8.

Convicted Oregon sex offender faces additional
charges after more victims came forward
by KATU News

HILLSBORO, Ore. – A convicted child sex offender who has been in jail since fall 2017 on sex abuse charges is facing more charges after two more victims came forward accusing him of crimes.

Justin Sharp was indicted on Oct. 13, 2017 on charges of first-degree sodomy, fist-degree sexual abuse, two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and tampering with a witness.

On Tuesday, Sgt. Bob Ray from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed at least two more alleged victims have come forward accusing Sharp of sexual abuse.

According to court documents from October 2017, Sharp is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under age 12 between November 2010 and November 2012.

In that same time period, when the child was under 14 years old, Sharp is accused of touching the child’s genitals.

Sharp is also accused of having sex on Dec. 31, 2014 with a child under age 16.

Then, on Oct. 13, 2017, court documents say Sharp tried to convince the alleged victim from the Dec. 31, 2014 incident to offer false testimony or withhold testimony.

On Nov. 1, 2014, Sharp is accused of having sex with another child who was under 16 years old at the time.

Sharp was arrested in July 2017 when an off-duty Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy recognized the convicted sex offender at the Washington County Fair. The deputy knew Sharp was on parole and shouldn’t have been in a place with so many children.

A Washington County Sheriff’s Office public information officer says there may still be more victims.

Sharp is now booked in the Washington County Jail on seven counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of second-degree sodomy, three counts of second-degree rape, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse, one count of third-degree sexual abuse, violation of release agreement, one count of first-degree sodomy, two counts of third-degree rape and tampering with a witness.
