MN man gets 21 years in federal prison for grooming dozens of kids online
ST. PAUL, Minn. — A Minnesota man got 260 months in prison for using social media to groom and sexually abuse children across multiple states.
Trent Fair, 31, was sentenced before U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank. He pleaded guilty in April.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Minnesota says from August 2024 through February 2025, Fair used social media apps and the internet to communicate with and groom a 15-year-old girl to obtain sexually explicit material, according to court documents. The girl sent Fair several sexually explicit videos, and Fair admitted he knew she was 15 years old at the time.
Investigators say in January 2025, Fair traveled from Minnesota to Virginia to engage in sexual activity with the girl. While in Virginia, law enforcement was contacted to investigate a fight involving Fair, and he was caught after investigators confirmed his sexual abuse of the girl.
As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement became aware that Fair had used social media to solicit and obtain child sexual abuse material from several other children, some as young as 10 years old. Confronted with his social media history, Fair admitted to producing child pornography with at least a "few dozen" children for several years. Investigators also located an additional child Fair traveled to and sexually abused.
"The defendant is a serial child sexual predator," said United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen. "This sentence ensures that he is taken off the streets and it is a sign to offenders that my office will find and prosecute those who prey on vulnerable children."
"This arrest sends a clear message to anyone who uses social media to prey on children: we will find you, arrest you, and hold you accountable," said Fairfax County Chief of Police Kevin Davis. "This individual targeted a 15-year-old online and traveled hundreds of miles to exploit that child."
"Trent Fair self-identified as a pedophile and admitted to victimizing dozens of children," said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson. "His conduct is the embodiment of every parent's worst fears when their children go online."
Fair will also serve 20 years of supervised release after his prison sentence. The case was investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia, FBI, with assistance from the Minneapolis Police Department and other law enforcement partners.

Monterey Co.: 64-Year-Old Man Sentenced To 225 Years To Life In Prison For Child Molestation
A 64-year-old Monterey County man was sentenced to 225 years to life in state prison after a jury convicted him of sexually assaulting five children over a period of 16 years, Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced Friday.
Jose Guadalupe Reyes was sentenced by Judge Carrie Panetta after a jury on July 21 found him guilty of 14 counts of forcible lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14 and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, according to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said Reyes assaulted the five victims, identified in court documents as Jane Does 1 through 5, between 1996 and 2012 in the City of Marina.
The victims did not report the assaults until they were adults, with the DA's office noting research that said victims are more likely to delay report for sexual abuse when the victim is a minor and has a close relationship with the perpetrator.
Three victims were his nieces, one was his girlfriend's daughter, and one was his granddaughter, the DA's office noted.
Reyes was arrested in Texas in 2025 and extradited to Monterey County to face charges. Reyes was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
‘Like a bad dream’: Mother quickly cleared of child sex abuse charges. She’s now speaking
Prosecutors say ‘no evidence of sexual intent’
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Released and reunited with family, Maylin Viana wants to tell her story.
She spoke with Local 10 News a day after the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office dropped all charges against her.
The 29-year-old mom was accused of molestation and posting lewd videos of her 4-year-old son online.
She says: Not true.
“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Viana said. “Like a bad dream. In my mind, I never (did) anything wrong.”
Police records show it was social media giant TikTok that flagged one video from her account as “child sexual abuse material,” allegedly showing the boy only with a shirt on, naked otherwise, and Viana touching him.
On Aug. 5, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office would arrive at her house in southwest Miami-Dade.
“I was like, that has to be a joke,” her cousin, Raúl Salazar said. “We’re like, That’s not the kind of person she is. That’s not something that she would do.”
Deputies said Viana consented to having her phone searched.
That’s when they found another video of her kissing her son. Viana maintains they were normal, innocent pecks between mom and child.
In a closeout memo, prosecutors say the state “is unable to proceed with criminal charges” and that “there is no evidence of sexual intent” in either video.
Viana says all she wants now is to be with family.

“They’ve got to be really mindful of the accusations they make before ruining a reputation,” Salazar said.
