Russian man is arrested on suspicion of raping five schoolgirls more than 700 times
By Will Stewart for MailOnline

A Russian man has been arrested on suspicion of at least 729 rapes against schoolgirls who he fostered from a local orphanage over a five year period.

The alleged paedophile exploited the five girls as his personal sex slaves, according to state investigators.

He was detained after one of his victims - all aged 17 and under - reported the sexual abuse to teachers at her school in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

All 729 separate criminal offences under which he is being investigated involve the rape law.

Reports citing law enforcement sources in eastern Russia say the unnamed man forced four of the five orphan girls to succumb to his sexual demands on a daily basis.

He and his civil wife had a family of a dozen children including nine foster children, according to RIA.

She had fostered three boys and he was the sole legal guardian for the five adolescent girls he is accused of sexually abusing, plus one other child.

The couple also had three children of their own, it was reported. It is unclear if the woman was aware of the alleged sexual abuse.

Of course she was aware. If it was happening every day for several years, how could she not be aware?

Local childcare staff are now under criminal investigation for allowing a suspected paedophile to foster the girls, and failing to make proper checks on the well being of the orphans.

The man and woman had received awards and commendations from social services for successfully fostering the children, it is understood.

Officials in the Khabarovsk region of eastern Russia are said to be 'deeply shocked' over the allegations against a man seen as a 'model foster father'.

Alla Kuznetsova, education minister in the region, said the foster parents had passed repeated inspections by social services.

'In the case of this family, there were no alarms at all,' she said. In the first year there were five inspections.

In subsequent years, two checks annually, she said.

She confirmed: 'Those five girls for whom the man was guardian have been sent back to the orphanage.'

And will they get some badly needed psychological treatment?

The other foster children were also removed from the family home. It is not known how young the schoolgirls were when the alleged abuse began, reported The Siberian Times.

The state paid the widower a total of £1,320 a month to care for the underage girls who he is accused of sexually exploiting.

Igor Komissarov, senior assistant to the chairman of Russian Federal Investigative Committee, said: 'It was established that the suspect committed 729 crimes to the five fostered girls.'

Ilya Gudkov, from Khabarovsk Regional Investigative Committee, equivalent of the FBI, said: 'The violent sexual actions of the foster father are now under investigation according to article 131 - rape.'

Detectives claim that 'between September 2012 and February 2017 the man regularly committed heavy sexually violent crimes against the five children of which he was the guardian.

Another local report said there would be questions for the authorities over how the girls had been allowed to become the foster father's 'sex slaves'.

Earlier reports had suggested the man was a 'lonely' widower who had been allowed to foster the children.

South Pacific man resentenced to 10 years
in prison for child sex abuse
By Ferdie De La Torre

A 25-year-old man who sexually abused a girl on Tinian starting when she was just 6 years old was resentenced Friday to a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Anthony Herrera Borja was directed to serve the 10-year sentence day to day but he is still eligible for parole after serving six years of his sentence.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho required Borja to register as a sex offender.

Borja was given credit for time served. No fine were imposed.

The 10-year prison term is the same sentence that Camacho previously imposed on Borja. The difference is that the new sentence now allows the defendant to be eligible for parole after serving six years.

Camacho resentenced Borja after the CNMI Supreme Court in November 2015 vacated his 10-year sentence and remanded the matter for resentencing.

N. Marianas Islands

The high court noted that the sentence was not sufficiently individualized because information, particularly to Borja’s life, went unacknowledged.

The justices said Camacho failed to request a presentence investigation report, which compiles information relevant to the particular circumstances of a defendant and is helpful in imposing individualized sentences.

In 2012, the Office of the Attorney General charged Borja with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, indecent exposure in the first degree, and two counts of disturbing the peace. The charges carry a total maximum sentence of 36 years in prison.

In 2013, Borja pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a minor in the second degree as part of a plea deal. That carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment. Camacho sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Borja appealed to the CNMI Supreme Court.

At the resentencing hearing at the Tinian courthouse on Friday, assistant attorney general Jonathan Glass Jr. recommended a seven-year prison term.

Assistant public defender Nancy Dominski, counsel for Borja, recommended a sentence of 10 years imprisonment with five years suspended.

Borja submitted his written statement and letter of apology to the victim.

In his order, Camacho said the 10-year sentence is appropriate as it will be a specific deterrence as Borja will learn from his crime and not commit other similar crimes.

The sentence, Camacho said, is appropriate as it touches upon some of the goals of sentencing: Retribution and incapacitation.

Camacho said it reaffirms to the community that child predators that sexually abuse very young children will be punished.

Camacho said that Borja’s actions require that he be removed to safeguard the community.

The judge noted that Borja has a criminal history (juvenile cases) as well as 32 documented disciplinary/adverse actions, which include physical/verbal assaults, stealing, repeated disruptive behavior, abusive lewd indecent obscene acts and others.

Camacho said Borja is not a candidate for rehabilitation.

During interview with police officers, the then 12-year-old girl confessed that Borja started touching her private parts when she was 6 years old.

The victim admitted that Borja had sex with her monthly since she was 10 years old. A staff at Tinian Health Center stated in her report that physical examination showed evidence of vaginal penetration.

Jail term increased for paedophile who
admits further offences
Jenny Loweth

A FORMER church bus driver had his prison sentence for sexually abusing young girls increased to 13 years at Bradford Crown Court after admitting five further similar offences.

Tony Mitchell was jailed for 11 years in October 2015 for raping a child of 11 and molesting five more girls, aged between seven and 13.

Mitchell, 47, formerly of Idlethorp Way, Thorpe Edge, Bradford, was brought back to court from prison to have his jail term increased by two years.

He pleaded guilty to inciting two little girls to touch one another indecently, inciting a child to touch him indecently and two offences of sexually assaulting a girl under 13.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood said Mitchell's victims were aged six or seven at the time.

Mitchell sat in the dock weeping, with his head buried in his hands, as Mr Wood read out victim impact statements from the two children.

One said he was a bad man who should go to jail while the second said he had made her feel devastated and angry.

The court heard Mitchell was regretful and remorseful.

His mother was gravely ill and he would not be able to care for her at the end of her life.

When Mitchell was jailed for 11 years, the sentencing judge said he was guilty of "a campaign of sexual abuse" against six young girls.

He was working as a volunteer bus driver for the Church on the Way in Bradford Road, Idle, when the offences came to light. Social Services told the pastor that sexual allegations had been made against Mitchell and he stopped driving the bus.

He sought counselling at the church where he was told that if he did not go to the police, it would report him. Mitchell handed himself in and confessed to what he had done.

Jailing Mitchell for two years to run consecutively with sentence he is serving, Judge Jonathan Rose said he was guilty of "the most appalling and depraved behaviour with very small children."

Although Mitchell was genuinely remorseful, it was too late to undo the damage he had done.

But he had been frank and open with the police and admitted the offences at the earliest opportunity.

"There is much in your early life that has had a negative impact on you," Judge Rose said, after hearing that Mitchell had suffered abuse as a child.

Far too many of us have! But while it may predispose us to becoming paedophiles, it doesn't mean it is inevitable. At some point we have to choose between that predisposition and decency. Hopefully, most of us will make that choice before actually abusing a child.

He was already subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect children from him in the future.

Elderly couple go on trial over catalogue of charges of historic sexual & physical abuse of children
Neil Hunter

AN elderly couple have gone on trial accused of a catalogue of physical and sexual abuse against children decades ago.

Kenneth Whiles and his wife Peggy are alleged to have used belts, a dog chain and high-heeled shoes to beat the youngsters.

A jury at Teesside Crown Court was told today that their victims were humiliated and injured in the attacks.

The couple, from Eston, near Middlesbrough, deny a total of 29 charges and face a trial likely to last two weeks.

Mr Whiles, 71, denies 24 separate offences of indecent assault, indecency with a child, cruelty and assault.

His 69-year-old wife - a wheelchair-user - has pleaded not guilty to five cruelty charges.

Prosecutor Richard Bennett said: “The prosecution say that the violence was beyond anything that could be considered lawful.

“The prosecution say it was straightforward assault and cruelty.

“Kenneth Whiles was regularly violent, and beat them with his hands and with belts. He would humiliate them, too.

“Peggy Whiles was not involved in direct sexual abuse, but the prosecution say she knew what was going on and she turned a blind eye.

“There were regular patterns of criminal behaviour carried out by both defendants.”

Mr Bennett told the jury of eight men and four women that complaints were made by some of the victims years ago, but “for various reasons” no criminal prosecution was brought at the time.

Worries had also been raised by a teacher who was told that one of the victims was being abused.

An investigation was relaunched several years ago after one of the accusers rang police to say he was going to the couple’s home to kill for what they had done, and he was arrested.

Mr Bennett said the couple, of Durham Road, Eston, denied the allegations when they were questioned.

Calgary man charged with sex offences after incident at northwest dayhome
Cynthia Roebuck, Anchor/Reporter @CTV

Police have laid charges against a Calgary man in relation to an incident at a northwest dayhome involving a three-year-old girl.

In February, the child told her parents that she had been inappropriately touched by a man while at her dayhome in the community of Citadel.

Gary Francis Hachey, 51, is charged with sexual interference and sexual assault. Police say he lives in the home but is not the primary caregiver, and is alleged to have had sexual contact with the girl while they were alone.

"The primary operator would have been the wife, he was the husband of the wife and worked within the dayhome to provide services," said Staff Sgt. Dominic Mayhew, CPS Child Abuse Unit. "It was operating under the name of Jane's Dayhome and to our knowledge it's been operating for approximately 10 years."

Police have been contacting current and former clients of the dayhome but at this point have not identified any other victims.

Hachey will next appear in court on August 4.

Parents, please don't put your children in a daycare where a man is present! Motivations for men to be at daycares should always be of concern. If they are there, they must be watched like a hawk and forbidden from taking children to the bathroom or otherwise being alone with them.

Former music mogul Jonathan King appears in court over Walton Hop child sex abuse claims

King faces three charges of buggery and 15 of indecent assault
BY DAVID WILCOCK

Former music mogul Jonathan King has appeared in court accused of a string of sex attacks on underage boys in relation to the Walton Hop disco in the 1970s and 80s.

The ex-singer and Genesis producer is accused of assaults on nine teenagers aged between 14 and 16, between 1970 and 1986, Westminster Magistrates' Court was told.

Dressed in a smart dark suit, white shirt and trainers, King, 72, smiled in the dock as he spoke only to confirm his personal details.

He appeared in court for the short hearing under his real name of Kenneth George King.

He faces three charges of buggery and 15 of indecent assault.

His lawyer, Steven Bird, said he "will be contesting the allegations".

King, of Bayswater, central London, was released on conditional bail to appear at Southwark Crown Court on July 24.

His bail conditions were not to contact any of the complainants or to name them in the media or on social media.

King was charged by Surrey Police last month in connection with offences as part of Operation Ravine - the force's investigation into alleged sexual offences connected to the Walton Hop Disco, a teenage disco which ran from 1958 until 2001.

Former ‘Irish Times’ sports journalist  pleaded guilty to six counts of child sex abuse

Tom Humphries faces up to 10 years in jail for abusing girl
Conor Gallagher

Former Irish Times sports journalist Tom Humphries faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced shortly for grooming and engaging in sexual acts with a child.

In Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on Monday, Judge Karen O’Connor said she hoped to conduct the sentencing hearing on July 26th, just before the court breaks for the summer recess.

However, she said the matter might not be heard on that date because other cases had priority on the list. The sentencing hearing will take half a day.

Humphries (54), from Sutton, north Dublin, pleaded guilty to the offences in March but could not be named publicly on that date because he was facing trial for further sexual offences.

Prosecuting counsel Shane Costelloe SC told Judge O’Connor the State was entering a nolle prosequi on the three further charges relating to a separate girl, meaning the charges were not being proceeded with.

Humphries, who was present in court for yesterday’s short hearing, was released on continuing bail pending sentencing.

He pleaded guilty on the morning of his trial last March to six counts of abuse of a girl under the age of 17.

Text messages

The court will hear that Humphries groomed the girl over a lengthy period of time by exchanging over 10,000 text messages with her. Many of these messages were sent in the early hours of the morning and some contained video files.

At some stage during the grooming process Humphries began engaging in sexual acts with the girl who was in her young teens at the time.

The charges comprise two counts of defilement of a child in Dublin between December 5th, 2010, and February 19th, 2011, and four counts of inviting a child to participate in a sexually explicit, obscene or indecent act between January 2010 and March 2011.

Defilement is defined in Irish law as engaging in a sexual act with a child under the age of 17. It normally carries a maximum sentence of five years but this rises to 10 years if the offender is a “person in authority”.

Sexual exploitation of a child is defined in law as, among other things, inviting, inducing or coercing the child to participate in or observe “any activity of a sexual or indecent nature”.

Humphries’s defence counsel Hugh Hartnett SC requested his client be excused from further case management dates for health reasons. The judge refused the application following an objection from the prosecution.

It is understood Humphries’s defence team will make several submissions on the condition of his health before sentence is imposed.

Pervert jailed after trying to take 'child' sex doll through East Midlands Airport
By Burton Mail
By Hayley Parker

A pervert is today behind bars after trying to import a sex doll that looked like a little girl through East Midlands Airport. Andrew Dobson was jailed for two years and eight months after his actions were labelled as "disgusting" when he was caught with the doll at the Cast Donington airport. This was one of the first cases such as this in the UK to go before a court.

Chester Crown Court was told that the 49-year-old had bought the disturbing child-like mannequin from Hong Kong so he could satisfy his own twisted urges. However, the court heard how, in September last year, border force officials at East Midlands Airport intercepted the package addressed to Dobson to discover the obscene child-sized doll with instructions for its use and care.

Dobson, of Merrivale Road, Wistaston, near Crewe, was arrested at his home and, following a search, child abuse photographs were found on his computer. In his interview, Dobson admitted buying the doll to use for sex and downloading the sickening images and movies online.

Prosecutor Peter Hussey said a forensic physician and paediatric consultant examined the doll and suggested its size would be consistent with a child of between four and six years old.

Cambridge man Leslie Foxtees, 78, charged for football-related historic sex offence

Foxtees, of Thorleye Road, Cambridge, has been charged with gross indecency with a boy under the age of 14 between July 1, 1969, and June 30, 1970
BY RAYMOND BROWN

A 78-year-old man has been charged as part of the force’s investigation into non-recent allegations related to football in Cambridgeshire.

Leslie Foxtees, of Thorleye Road, Cambridge, has been charged with gross indecency with a boy under the age of 14 between July 1, 1969, and June 30, 1970.

He is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (June 27).

Police in Cambridgeshire were inundated with allegations of historical child sex abuse last year (2016). Officers said there have been “multiple” allegations and confirmed the clubs involved included Cambridge United and Peterborough United.

Cambridge United Football Club confirmed it has been contacted by police over the wider investigation. More than 30 alleged victims of child sex abuse connected to football in Cambridgeshire had come forward by January this year (2017).

Funded by the FA, the NSPCC hotline was set up in early December and is available 24 hours a day on 0800 023 2642.

The FA also instigated an independent review, led by Clive Sheldon QC, into its handling of abuse allegations in the years prior to 2005.

Anyone with concerns about the allegations are encouraged to contact police on 101 or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

Former Rugby man jailed for 11 years over babysitter sexual abuse

Steven Hewitt, who lived at various addresses in Rugby, had denied three charges of sexual assault, seven of assault by penetration and two of voyeurism. But he had been found guilty of all 12 charges following a trial at Warwick Crown Court in March, after which the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on him.

At the resumed hearing Hewitt, 33, who had been living at an address in Kingston-upon-Hull prior to the trial, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Jailing Hewitt, who repeatedly shook his head in denial as she outlined his offences, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano told him: “She trusted you and your family, and you chose to take advantage of the fact that she trusted you to regularly sexually abuse her.

“She speaks of the effect this has had on her. She speaks of broken trust in people and difficulty in having relationships. “It won’t be put at an end by whatever happens today, because nothing I do can bring back the childhood she has lost, but I hope this will bring some kind of closure for her. And as a result of what you did, you have wrecked your family life. You have lost your wife and the children you love, and you find yourself virtually alone in the world.”

Judge de Bertodano also imposed a restraining order banning Hewitt from contacting his victim in any way, directly or indirectly, for life.

During the trial the jury heard the offences came to light when Hewitt’s victim, now in her 20s, went to the police last year to complain about the abuse she had suffered as a child. Prosecutor Mark Knowles explained it began when the girl had babysat for Hewitt and his wife when she was 14. The offences started with an incident when Hewitt had fondled her breast, and then ranged from touching and licking her breasts to doing so more intimately and penetrating her with his fingers.

He also left his iPhone in the bathroom, hoping to capture her in a state of undress while she was there. His victim spoke of occasions when, while his wife was upstairs, Hewitt had pinned her on the sofa and forced his hands inside her pants to touch her. She would try to push him off, but he would carry on, putting his arm round her mouth so she could not cry out.

The girl did not go to the police at the time because she did not want to upset Hewitt’s wife, who she got on with, but she did confide in a close friend at school. And in 2015 she went to see Hewitt’s wife and told her what had gone on. At first his wife did not seem to accept it, but after she challenged him and he admitted some of what had happened but claimed it had been consensual, she told him to leave their home.

Mr Knowles told the jury: “He contacted a psychological therapy unit and spoke to staff. He said he was in his car and thinking of killing himself.” In his phone call, Hewitt confided: “I’m a paedophile. I feel guilty for what I’ve done. I know it’s wrong. They didn’t want me to, but I couldn’t stop my behaviour.”

"They didn’t want me to", pretty much implies that there were others, yet no mention is made of them.

He called again, saying he knew the police were looking for him, and again repeated that he had been touching someone who did not want to be touched and had told him to get off. In fact his victim had not contacted the police at that stage, but when she did so early last year Hewitt was arrested after being stopped in his car.

But Hewitt claimed that although he had touched the girl, it had been when she was older, and that she had not objected – which was rejected by the jury. Sally Hancox, defending, said: “He had lived an all-but law-abiding life before this. He acknowledges his wrong-doing will take him away from his own family for many years, and that he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his days.”
