The mother of a girl accusing her stepfather of sexual assault testified that her daughter may have equated with sexual assault her parents having to clean her up after her “accidents.”
She said three weeks before the allegations, her teen daughter — who has bowel complications caused by her spina bifida — told her: “Mom, you sexual harassment me.”
According to her mother, who cannot be identified to protect her daughter’s identity, the girl said she watched a video in health class that said when adults touch a child’s private parts, it’s sexual abuse.
She thought that meant her and her husband sexually abuse her when they wipe down her genitals, the girl’s mother testified on Thursday at her husband’s sexual assault trial in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.
The woman said she later explained to her daughter, who she testified operates on a lower cognitive level than her age, that this was not sexual abuse, but “she was still confused.”
However, she said she never called her daughter a liar.
The girl told police that over the past four years, her stepfather had unzipped his pants and put his penis in her vagina, often after changing her “pull-ups.”
On Thursday, the girl’s educational assistant (EA) testified that the girl disclosed her stepfather’s “inappropriate” behaviour to her in 2019 after a health class about sexual consent.
She said the girl screamed and cried while telling her that the touching went beyond just cleaning her up.
Court heard the girl needed help cleaning up because of her arm length. Her EA said she always wore pull ups at school; her mom testified that her daughter changed into underwear when she got home.
She told Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli that before the allegations, she caught her daughter watching a video of a man unzipping his pants and pulling his penis out.
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit technician who forensically examined the accused’s cellphone testified that he found browser history of adult pornography with the search terms “teen,” “daughter,” “dad” and “granddad.”
During her police interview in 2019, the girl told Const. Heidi Marshall that she heard her stepfather looking up sexual videos by saying things like “grandfather (expletive) granddaughter” into his phone.
No child pornography was found on the man’s phone, and none of the websites were flagged as child porn sites, Det. Const. Chad Seidel said under cross-examination.
The girl’s mother testified she was concerned with her husband’s internet usage after seeing pornography on his phone. When she asked him about his specific predilections, she said he replied: “It’s not what you think.”

Her husband later revealed a 17-year pornography addiction, she said. She asked him if that explained the video she found her daughter watching.
“When he feels shameful and he gets caught, he’ll answer ‘yeah’ to everything. So from that point on I was disgusted by him,” she said.
The woman told Morelli that the accused still lives with her. Court heard the girl went to live with her biological father, and now lives with her grandmother, while she did her own investigation.
“I believe in evidence; evidence is everything to me. In order for me to start doing my work, I have to arrange for (my daughter) to go to her father’s and then prepare to do my homework.”
She said she did not trust Const. Marshall, who she alleged told her she wouldn’t do a rape kit because she believed the girl.
When the most important issue is to determine whether there was actually child sex abuse that occurred, it is absurd that the Constable wouldn't order a rape kit, or at least an examination to see if she is a virgin. The judge should order it!
King's Lynn man in court over 96 child sexual abuse charges
on 49 victims from 4-14 years old

A man has appeared in court charged with 96 child sexual abuse allegations.
David Wilson, of Kirstead, King's Lynn, Norfolk, was not asked to enter pleas when he appeared at Ipswich Crown Court.
The 36-year-old was remanded in custody and will appear again at the same court for a plea hearing on 23 November.
The National Crime Agency said the allegations related to 49 victims aged from four to 14 between 1 May 2016 and 31 May 2018.
Mr Wilson is accused of causing or inciting young boys to send him indecent images of themselves or of them and other children, intentionally causing or inciting children to engage in sexual activity and making unwanted demands for indecent images of a child with menace.

Police in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh arrested three people on October 1 for the murder of a 14-year-old girl who was found dead in a field with her head smashed.
The accused have been identified as Kundan, ‘Collector’, and ‘Prince’, who are all residents of Gopiganj town in the city of Bhadohi. The police told local media that the three men have confessed to the crime.
The Bhadohi police spokesperson said that there was enmity between the girl’s family and the accused. The latter had threatened the victim’s family with dire consequences on September 28, local media reported.
The accused found the girl alone in a field, on Thursday, and killed her.
Her brother, who went to look for her, found her body, the police told Indian media outlets, adding that her head was smashed with bricks.
Ram Badan Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), was quoted as saying: “We are waiting for the post-mortem report for further details.”
The girl was a resident of Chakrajaram Tiwaripur village in Uttar Pradesh.
The family has claimed that the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed, and police officials are waiting for a post-mortem report to determine whether she was raped.
A team of forensic experts and crime branch officials has also reached the village to collect evidence and further investigate the murder.

A young woman was allegedly gang-raped and dumped by six men at a roadside recently after she was waiting for transport in the city of Lahore in Pakistan, police told local media outlets on October 1.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim stated that she was waiting with her friend. “The bus we were travelling in had broken down,” the FIR stated, according to local media reports.
Soon after, a few men passing by in a car gave her a lift. After she got in the car, the men intoxicated the woman, the police said.
“The men took me to a nearby area where four other men were present. All six men raped me...,” the woman was quoted as saying.
The culprits then left the woman in a field nearby. “They called my friend and told her to pick me up from there,” the FIR reportedly stated.
Police added that the incident happened on September 24, according to local media reports. Police have registered a case against the six accused.
Chief Minister of Punjab (CM), Sardar Usman Buzdar, on October 1, took notice of the alleged gang rape.
According to reports, Buzdar has directed to launch an investigation into the matter and sought a report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO). He has also ordered the authorities to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
The police are currently looking for the suspects.
Gang-rapes need to be a special category in law such that if a girl/woman is gang-raped by 6 men, the punishment for each of them should be 6 times that of a single rape!

The mother-of-five was taken to a hospital in Lahore where she is fighting for her life

A woman was allegedly severely tortured and set ablaze by her in-laws in the city of Sialkot in Pakistan on September 27.
The victim has been admitted to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, where she is currently fighting for life, according to local media reports.
On Sunday, the victim’s brother, identified as Shehzad, got a call from locals that his sister was set on fire. In the meantime, neighbours took the victim to a local hospital, according to local media reports.
Later, the victim, identified as Shazia, was moved to a hospital in Lahore.
Shehzad told the police that Shazia married her husband, Rana Faros, son of Bashir Ahmad, about 15 years ago.
He claimed that her in-laws used to torture her.
After undergoing treatment, the mother-of-five reportedly recovered enough to record her statement.
Shazia was quoted as saying: “I was cooking on the porch when my in-laws set me on fire. I ran outside in pain when my younger brother-in-law saw me and helped put out the fire.”
Police have registered a case against her in-laws, Ahmad and Rasheeda Bibi. And further investigations are underway.
Shropshire border paedophile pair jailed after admitting list of
child sex offences

Two men from the Shropshire border who committed child sex offences and possessed child abuse images have received lengthy jail sentences and been told they will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely and never be able to work with children.
Janos Barber, 28, from Church View, Chirk, was jailed for eight years and 10 months, and Samuel Clarke, 30, of Chapel Lane, Chirk, for six years and eight months.
Recorder Duncan Bould said the pair, who lived together, been caught up in distorted thought processes and paedophilic tendencies which they acted out.
He said their victim had been caused untold damage and said he had the utmost sympathy for the boy’s mother whose “tortured” words, saying how her heart was broken, were read to the court in a victim impact statement.
The men were sentenced at Mold Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty to magistrates at an earlier hearing.
Barber admitted two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two of sexual assault against a child and two of committing a sexual act in the presence of a child. He also admitted charges of the possession of indecent images and one case of voyeurism.
Clarke admitted three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and the possession of indecent images.
Mr Simon Rogers, prosecuting, said police carried out a search of the defendants’ flat in Church View on June 1 after being informed by a social media platform that two videos involving children had been uploaded by a phone in the flat.
Baby Rape
A search was made of the premises and a USB stick found containing videos and photographs of a boy involved in sexual activity. The two defendants both featured in the videos.
In addition, equipment found in the flat contained no less than 120,000 still images and videos of child abuse. This included more than 1,000 of the highest category of seriousness including the rape of a baby, Mr Rogers said.
Barber also admitted recording video footage of boys dressing and undressing at a swimming pool. He had hidden a camera inside a rucksack, Mr Rogers said.
Both men, appearing on video link from HMP Berwyn Prison, broke down during the hearing.
The court was told that Barber had expressed remorse for the impact his offences had had on his victim and victim’s family. What he had done had destroyed his career prospects.
Mr Henry Hills for Clarke said had expressed revulsion at what he had done. He had also admitted being addicted to images of child abuse.
Mr Recorder Bould told the men that their depraved actions would be met with disgust and revulsion by right-minded members of the public. He said: “We have heard the tortured words of the victim’s mother and I have every sympathy for her.”
As well as jailing both defendants Mr Recorder Bould placed them on the sex offenders register indefinitely and said they would never be able to work with children.
