An eight-year-old girl in the Punjab province of Pakistan was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper after she visited his store to buy a pencil on October 8. The incident occurred in the Chenab Nagar area in the city of Chiniot.

According to local media reports, the 40-year-old accused sexually assaulted the girl who had visited the store alone. And, an accomplice recorded a video of the assault on his mobile phone.

Culprits blackmail father

The eight-year-old victim is the daughter of a labourer, a resident of Kot Ameer Shah.

The father of the girl filed a police complaint after he went looking for the girl and found her at the shop after the attack, local media reported.

Reportedly, the accused and his accomplices told him not to report the incident and blackmailed him, threatening him with consequences like sharing the recorded footage online.

The clip was eventually shared on social media. The main accused identified as Saeed has been arrested. However, the police are yet to arrest the two accomplices.

The Chiniot District Police Officer Bilal Zafar Sheikh told local media that the accused would be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.

Speaking about the incident and recent sexual abuse cases against children in the country, Twitter user @Noxious_Numaira tweeted to Pakistan’s prime minister, Imran Khan, and wrote: “Eight-year-old girl blackmailed and raped multiple times. The rapist made videos of her and shared them with his friends. Third case of child molestation in the last 48 hours.”

Third that we know about!

Pakistan: Famous 60-year-old stuntman Sultan Mohammad Golden
marries 12-year-old, case registered against him

Golden and the girl’s father claim she is 18 years old but school records show otherwise

A famous Pakistani stuntman, Sultan Mohammad Golden, is in the middle of a legal battle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after he allegedly married a minor girl who is around 12 years old as per her school records. However, her father and he claim that she is above 18 years of age.

The 60-year-old had gotten famous after setting a world record of jumping over 22 cars in 1987.

On a motorcycle, I presume.

Local media reported that official sources and documents revealed that father of the girl, Samreen Sahar, had concealed her school certificate and vaccination card and obtained a birth certificate from the Sheshi Koh village council recording her age as above 18 years. On the basis of that certificate, her Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) was secured from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

As per news reports, district administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district, intervened after which the controversial birth certificate was amended and the concerned marriage registrar also cancelled the marriage contract.

The administration also reportedly requested NADRA in September to proceed against the suspects, including Golden and Sahar’s father, Azizur Rehman, under the NADRA 2000 Ordinance for fraudulently obtaining a CNIC and concealing the age of the child as per her school record.

Commenting on the issue, tweep @BenazirMirSamad wrote: “Many such cases. These rich old men from down the country have been preying on poor Chitrali families for so long now. Family so poor that the father is willing to testify her daughter is 18 when her school record shows she is only 12 years old.”

Marriage took place in July

Official sources told local media the controversial nikah (marriage) of Golden with the minor girl had taken place in July after which the issue was raised with the administration by a local civil society organisation.

The case will be presented in a local court in Chitral on October 24.

Lower Chitral District’s deputy commissioner had also constituted a medical board, which was notified by the medical superintendent of the DHQ hospital in the locality.

The letter of the medical board was conveyed to the local police asking them to produce the girl on September 18 to confirm her age. However, her father failed to bring her in as she was taken out of the district allegedly by Golden.

After their failure to produce the girl before the medical board, the executive magistrate, issued arrest warrants, which were challenged before the court by the suspects. The court suspended the said arrest warrants and finalised the date of the hearing.

Suspects challenge accusations

Reportedly, another petition of the accused has been pending before the court of the civil judge, in the town of Drosh in Chiltral, wherein they had challenged an ongoing inquiry by an additional assistant commissioner investigating the same issue.

The suspects have contended before the court that the girl is 18 years old, which is evident from her CNIC.

However, the school record of Government Primary School in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, states her date of birth as April 10, 2008, while her vaccination card also shows the same age, as per local media reports.

After the district administration took notice of the issue, as marrying a child is a crime under the Child Marriage Restraint Act in Pakistan, the additional assistant commissioner (AAC) was assigned the task to investigate the matter.

The government in Bangladesh has agreed to increase the maximum punishment in rape cases from life imprisonment to death, amid mass protests sparked by a recent series of sexual assaults.

President Abdul Hamid is expected to issue a special ordinance amending the Women and Children Repression Prevention Bill and enact the legislation as parliament is not currently in session, Cabinet spokesman Khandaker Anwarul Islam said on Monday.

The government has also agreed to a proposal that rape trials will be completed in a speedy manner, Islam said. Currently, capital punishment is allowed in Bangladesh only in cases where the victim dies.

The president may issue the ordinance on Tuesday, according to Law Minister Anisul Huq.

The legislative push follows a series of violent sexual attacks in recent weeks. Protests broke out in the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country after a video was posted on Facebook showing a group of men stripping and attacking a woman in a southeastern district. The National Human Rights Commission found the woman in the video had been raped repeatedly and terrorized over the last year.

Women’s rights group Ain o Salish Kendra said that 889 rapes occurred between January and August this year alone, with at least 41 of the victims dying.

Human rights groups say the number of incidents of rape in the country has surged, with many going unreported.

Protesters demanded the resignation of the Bangladeshi interior minister over what they said was a failure to address the alarming rise in cases of sexual violence against women and girls.

Many rape victims have been unable to get justice because influential people were involved in some of these incidents, according to demonstrators. They also accused police of hesitating to arrest rapists, while many of those who did get arrested were released on bail.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on October 5 that the ruling Awami League-led government cannot avoid the responsibility of taking action after incidents of violence against women, including rape.

Cop Manoj Kumar Pathak from the Murar police station said they were alerted on the following day when the woman’s father filed a First Information Report (FIR) against two known and five unknown people in connection with the alleged crime.

Pathak said: “As per the FIR, the woman had gone to a bank along with her son for some work, but didn’t return home on time.

“Her family members finally found her near a pond in the village around 3am on Sunday. The body of the woman’s son was fished out from the pond.”

He added the woman’s father alleged his grandson was killed by the accused in front of her.

The woman is now recovering from her ordeal in Sadar hospital in Buxar and her condition is said to be stable.

Buxar superintendent Neeraj Kumar Singh said one of the accused, Meena Ram, 50, had been arrested and they were still searching for Bhola Ram, who was evading arrest.

They are still hunting for the others to are said to have taken part in the attack.

He added the woman had been examined by a board of doctors and their report is expected in the coming days. Her statement will be recorded in the court of judicial magistrate on Monday, the Times of India reports.

Dumraon Sub Divisional Police Officer Krishna Kumar Singh said the woman’s relationship with her husband had soured and she lived with her parents. “The woman’s husband was staying at the house of his in-laws for the last two days in a bid to convince her to return him,” he said.

Earlier this month it was reported a 12-year-old girl had become pregnant after allegedly being raped by three cousins over a period of five months. She was allegedly raped by one of her cousins while home alone. He is believed to have told the girl's other two cousins about the abuse before they also went on to sexual assault the young girl.

A 19-year-old woman died two weeks ago after being raped by a group of men in a village near New Delhi, triggering national outrage. Reports say her tongue had been cut and her spinal cord broken.

Cops in Hathras said four men had been arrested.

According to the latest Indian government data, the police registered 33,658 cases of rape in 2017 - an average of 92 per day.

Married woman stripped naked and filmed for eloping with another man in Arunachal Pradesh, India
..
The victim claimed that she left her village with the man to escape an abusive marriage

Recently, a married woman in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh was assaulted by villagers for eloping with another man from her locality to supposedly escape an abusive marriage.

According to Indian news media reports published on October 9, tired of the treatment she received at home, the woman eloped with a married man from the same village and fled to the town of Tinsukia in the state of Assam in September.

“No it wasn’t a love affair, but [the man] was aware of my state. He knew that my husband assaulted me every day brutally for five years. I had a miscarriage when he kicked me in my abdomen one night. After that there was one more miscarriage. I had to be admitted once in a hospital, when the brutality was extreme. My mother-in-law sided her son to hit me and this was regular. Several meetings between my family and my in-laws were not fruitful, and my fate did not change,” the woman was quoted as saying.

“I had refused his proposal of marriage as he said things shall change for me if I married him,” she added.

The assault occurred when the duo decided to return to their village.

The family of the man she had eloped with contacted the couple and asked them to return to the village. “They assured that they would accept and embrace us back in the family. Initially, we refused but later we thought of returning to be with our own family. It was at midnight on September 25 that we reached our village in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh,” the 20-year-old victim was quoted as saying.

However, on the night that the duo arrived at the village, villagers gathered to catch them. An informal village court decided that the couple were guilty.

According to Lekang's Women Welfare Association of Narcotics Cell, after this, a group of elderly women pulled the woman out of the vehicle and tore her clothes. Local media reported that the woman was then bathed in cold water. The elderly women chopped off her hair as punishment. They took turns to tear off the remaining of her clothes, stripping her naked.

A group of people recorded the incident. The man was also beaten up when he tried to stop the villagers, local media reported.

“I was made to sleep in a school room without any clothes. They did not give me food till next morning. I had bruises all over my body,” the woman was quoted as saying.

None of the woman’s family were called to the scene but the woman eventually managed to call her grandfather, who saved her, local media reported.

“The villagers decided to forbid the woman from marrying ever in her life, while the man she had eloped with, was asked to snap all ties with her. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the woman should be asked to leave the village. The decision was then conveyed to her grandfather. When the old man demanded for justice for his granddaughter, the villagers decided to hand him Rs40,000 (Dh2,013) (About $5,500 USD),” Ruby Deuri, secretary of the Women’s Welfare Association of Narcotics Cell said.

According to the organisation, police have so far arrested 15 out 38 people they say were involved in the act.

India's central government issues notification to federal agency
to take over Hathras gang rape, murder probe

New Delhi: Days after India's Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recommended a CBI (federal agency) probe into the alleged gang-rape and killing of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras, the Central government on Saturday issued a notification to the federal agency to take over the probe, officials said.

The officials said that the notification has been marked to a suitable branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The officials further said that after taking over the probe, CBI sleuths along with the forensic team will visit the crime scene.

The Dalit girl had died at a Delhi hospital on September 29, a fortnight after she was allegedly raped and assaulted by four upper caste men in her village.

After her death, the last rites of the girl was performed after midnight sans the presence of her family members, for which the UP government drew widespread criticism.

Last rights included the cremation of the body, without the parent's consent.

A political row also erupted surrounding the tragic incident as opposition leaders were not allowed to visit the victim's family. Last Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was roughed up by UP Police personnel at the Yamuna Expressway when he was marching towards Hathras.

Even Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brian was manhandled outside the victim's village.

Yogi Adityanath had demanded a CBI probe into the incident earlier this week.

He has a lot of nerve, as it was likely he, or someone close to him, who ordered the hasty burning of the body and the violent attempts to keep the incident out of the media. I'll be surprised if the CBI get to the real truth of the matter.

A 12-year-old girl in the Indian state of Gujarat was allegedly raped by her three minor cousins over five months. The shocking incident came to light last week after the girl was admitted to a hospital in Navsari district, where it was revealed that she was four months pregnant.

According to Indian news media reports, a few months ago, one of her cousins who was visiting her house found the girl alone and raped her. Later, he told his two other cousins who also allegedly raped her. They threatened the girl and told her not to disclose the matter to her mother.

Last week, after the girl complained of a stomach ache, her mother took her to a nearby hospital. When the doctor examined her, they found her to be four months pregnant. The doctors informed the mother, and they shifted the girl to another hospital for further treatment on Wednesday night.

On Thursday afternoon, police reached the hospital and took statements of the girl and her parents.

A police official told Indian news media outlets that all the accused are below 18 years of age. “We have registered an offence of rape against the three boys. They are absconding...” he said.

The police have booked the juveniles under India's POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

Police arrested two men in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh after they allegedly molested a woman and tried to rape her inside a moving truck on Friday. The incident occurred in UP’s Unnao district, where, the death of a 23-year-old gang-rape victim had sparked protests across the country last year.

According to Indian news reports, the 35-year-old woman was allegedly molested by her nephew and his friend.

Police said that on Thursday, the woman’s nephew approached her and told her that he had bought a piece of land in Agra. He requested the woman to accompany him to Agra for some paperwork, as she was educated, and he could use her help. The woman agreed.

On Friday, around 3pm, the woman, her nephew, and his friend left for Agra in a truck. According to a news report, the two men allegedly attempted to rape the woman and thrashed her when she resisted.

The woman's nephew allegedly bit her face and attempted to strangle her with a belt. Unsuccessful in their bid, the two eventually dropped the woman off on the express highway and fled from the spot.

A police official told Indian news media outlets that both the accused, who are in their twenties, were arrested within an hour of the incident.

India: Man beheads wife over suspicion of infidelity,

Suspecting his wife of infidelity, a man in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh beheaded her and walked into a police station with her severed head. The incident occurred on October 9 in UP’s Banda district.

According to Indian news reports, the man named Chinnar Yadav and his 35-year-old wife Vimala lived in the Netanagar locality. On Friday, at around 7:30am, the couple got into a heated argument. Apparently, Yadav had doubts (suspicions?) that Vimala was having an affair with another man in the neighbourhood.

During the heated exchange, in a fit of rage, Yadav chopped his wife's head off. “The accused attacked his wife with a sharp weapon and killed her,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Pratap Chauhan told Indian news media outlets.

He later carried the severed head of his wife to a nearby police station where he surrendered.

A video of the accused walking on the road holding his wife’s chopped head has gone viral on social media in India. People shared the video urging state authorities to take immediate action regarding the case.

Police have arrested Yadav and recovered the weapon used for the murder. They also sent the body of the victim for postmortem.

A similar incident happened last year in the Indian state of Odisha, where the husband decapitated his wife after a heated exchange and surrendered himself to the police.

So, like, it happens once a year in India? Have you ever heard of such a thing in a western country?

Note: We have not embedded the video as its content is of an extremely disturbing nature.

India: Man buried alive on suspicion of witchcraft, eight including three nephews held

The three brothers alleged that the victim had cast an evil spell on their sister

Recently, a man in the Indian state of Meghalaya was buried alive over suspicion of practising witchcraft. According to Indian news reports, after arresting the victim’s three nephews last week, the police, on Sunday, arrested five more people in connection with the October 7 murder.

According to Indian news reports, the police in West Khasi Hills district said the man’s three nephews had murdered their uncle Moris Marngar after alleging that he had cast an evil spell on their sister Sildaris through witchcraft.

On October 6, the trio forcibly dragged the man out of his house and held him captive at their sister’s house for a day before burying him, police said.

Meanwhile, the village elders filed a complaint at the local police station stating that Marngar had gone missing. By the time the police located Marngar, it was too late. They found his buried body, exhumed it, and sent it for post-mortem.

The police lodged a First Information Report (FIR), naming the three brothers and accomplices.

Witch-hunting is a social issue that is common in parts of Northeast India. Countless activists have raised their voice for strong national laws against witch-hunting.

According to an Indian news report, in the state of Assam, it claims a dozen lives in the tea belt and tribal areas every year on average. On October 2, two people were killed by a mob in a remote village in Assam after residents suspected them of practicing witchcraft and an informal village court decided to kill them.
