FAIRBANKS—A 28-year-old Fairbanks man has been arrested on a charge of felony child sex abuse after a woman allegedly found him naked with her 5-year-old daughter early Tuesday morning. 

Edward Andrew Sweat is charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor for the incident, which reportedly took place at the woman’s home.

The woman told Fairbanks police she went looking for Sweat, who does not live in the home and was there with his fiancee, after she hadn’t seen him for about 15 to 20 minutes.

The woman went downstairs and saw Sweat standing naked inside her bedroom. Sweat swung the door shut when he saw her, and the woman ran in and saw her daughter in the bed, putting her shirt on.

The woman yelled at Sweat and hit him in the face, and he ran from the house after pulling on some clothes. The woman told police Sweat said something to the effect that he “should just go blow his brains out,” according to the criminal complaint.

The girl told her mother Sweat came into her bedroom, picked her up and carried her into the woman’s room. She said Sweat removed her clothes and his clothes, put her on the bed and laid on top of her. 

The girl said Sweat rubbed his crotch against her and tried to kiss her, but she put her lips together tightly so he couldn’t. 

The girl was interviewed at Stevie’s Place and identified the body parts involved by pointing to them on drawings. Her story was consistent with what she told her mother, according to the complaint.

Sweat was later interviewed by Detective Scott Adams and denied being in the bedroom with the girl or touching her.

Stevie’s Place is a child advocacy program that provides a child-friendly, neutral place for victim’s of suspected child sexual abuse to be interviewed by law enforcement and receive medical exams.
