2 Georgia School Employees Accused of

Sexually Abusing Students

Railey Greeson and Brooklyn Shuler are charged with sexual contact by employee or agent in the first degree, authorities say

Two school employees are accused of having sex with students in a Georgia school district in 2021 and 2022.

Railey Greeson and Brooklyn Shuler were indicted in Gordon County, Ga., on Thursday, June 28, on the charge of sexual contact by employee or agent in the first degree11 AliveWSB TV and FOX 5 Atlanta reported, citing the indictment.

Greeson is accused of having sex with two male students while Shuler is accused of having sex with one male student between October 2021 and January 2022, per the indictment, the outlets reported.

Gresson has been charged with two counts of the offense and Shuler has been indicted on one count of the offense, per the indictment.

The indictment did not name the school district but WSB TV identified the district as the City of Calhoun School District. PEOPLE has reached out to the district for comment.

The ages of the students have not been revealed, the outlets reported, but the indictment said the women “reasonably should have known" that the alleged victims were enrolled as students, per 11 Alive, FOX 5 Atlanta and WSB TV.

It wasn’t immediately clear if either of the suspects have entered pleas or retained attorneys to speak on their behalf.

West Virginia fire chief accused of child sex abuse

FAIRMONT — A Monongalia Grand Jury indicted Roger Lee Channell Jr., 52, of sexually assaulting a child in his custody between 1992 and 1994.

Channell is the fire chief of the Bunner Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

The indictment states Channell engaged sexually with a female child while she was under his care and she was between the ages of 9-11. In 1992, Channell was 20. The three charges the grand jury indicted him on are one count of sexual assault/abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person of trust, and two counts of sexual assault in the first degree.

There is, unfortunately, no indication of whether Channell was married when he, at 20 years old, got custody of a 9 year old girl. If not, this should also be investigated.

Channell is represented by David DeMoss, an attorney in Fairmont. DeMoss did not return a call for comment. The state is represented by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Menchoff. The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office did not return a call for comment.

According to records from the Monongalia County Magistrate’s Office, the state issued the felony complaint July 11, 2023, followed by a warrant for Channell’s arrest. Bail was set at $10,000 on July 20, 2023 and posted the same day. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office served the warrant.

The case was scheduled for the week of June 25-28, however, the public access computer at the Monongalia Justice Center had no more entries showing any outcome after the trial’s date. It’s not clear if the trial was rescheduled or if there was a finding in the case.

A recent West Virginia law prevents criminal complaints, certain court records and other investigative documents involving sex-related crimes from becoming public record. According a memorandum distributed to magistrate courts around the state, records “identifying information of a victim in an arrest, investigation or complaint for sexual offenses,” must be withheld from public release. However, once certain documents are properly redacted or have names changed to initials, they may end up in the circuit clerk’s public access computer system, where any member of the public may view them. The bill passed unanimously in the West Virginia House and Senate.

Most recently, Channell was the spokesperson for the Volunteer Fire Department Levy which Marion County voters approved in May. He provided Marion County Commission with a presentation supporting the levy.

If found guilty, Channell would have to register as a sex offender in the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry.
