Update - Male suspect arrested in Idaho

A male suspect has also been arrested in the case. Idaho police announced on May 19 they had arrested Peter Allen Cash, 39, after conducting a search of his home and seizing evidence from his computer.

Peter Allen Cash
Peter Allen Cash, 40, was arrested in mid-May by Idaho police and information from U.S. authorities later led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman in Red Deer. (Canyon County Jail)

The resident of Nampa intended to leave the United States that week and move to Canada, according to Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, prompting police to hasten their investigation and arrest Cash.

He faces nine counts of sexual exploitation of a child in Idaho and has pending charges for possession of child pornography in Missouri, according to U.S. authorities.

He was 39 at the time of his arrest but turned 40 while in custody.

Yesterday's story -

Authorities in Red Deer, Alberta., have taken a four-year-old boy from his mother, accusing her of sexually abusing the boy and producing child pornography that involved him.

The 43-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday at a licensed daycare in the central Alberta city where she worked, but police said there is no indication any children from the daycare were abused.

"This is a heinous crime that was committed on a young child by the one person they should be able to trust the most," said Insp. Dave Dubnyk, who oversees the internet child exploitation unit of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.

Dubnyk said the investigation began when the Idaho internet crimes against children unit identified a child who was being sexually abused after photos of the abuse were sent using email.

U.S. police determined the child lived in the Red Deer area and were able to identify his mother as the suspect.

To protect the identity of the boy, police are not naming her.

Child in care of family members

Dubnyk said the child has been transferred to the care of other family members in Red Deer and his mother has been released from custody under "strict conditions to ensure she has no contact with her child."

"Our concern of course is for the health and well-being of this young child," Dubynk said, adding that the child is receiving "all necessary support."

Parents with children at the daycare have been notified. Dubynk stressed there is no evidence any other children were abused, other than the woman's son.

The woman had no previous criminal record and was not previously known to police.

She has been charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, making child pornography, distributing child pornography, possessing child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Her next court date is set for July 16 in Red Deer.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams are made up of members of Alberta Sheriffs, the Calgary Police Service, Edmonton Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service, Medicine Hat Police Service and the RCMP.

You guys are all my heroes today. God bless you!

Middle School Principal Arrested for Sexual Abuse of a Minor Child

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho - A middle school principal is being charged with sexual abuse of a minor child.

Elmore County Officials confirmed to KTVB (Boise) that Hacker Middle School Principal, John Clark, was arrested late Friday night. According to the Mountain Home Police Department, Clark is charged with sexual abuse of a minor. No bail has been posted.

One Mountain Home resident says Clark has been a teacher in the school district for several years.

Parents say they're shocked, disturbed, and concerned for everyone involved.

"You feel almost morally outraged but at the same time you kind of want to collect yourself and don't want to assume someone is guilty of such a heinous thing," said Beverly Hodges, a mom of a 5th grader.

Mountain Home School District Superintendent James Gilbert sent out this statement a short time ago:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As many of you may or may not know, the Principal of Hacker Middle School was arrested Friday evening.  While the district normally doesn’t publically address personnel matters, due to the severity of these allegations, we feel it is important to reassure our parents that the safety of your children is our top priority.  We want to inform parents that this incident did not involve any Hacker students or happen on school grounds.  The principal is no longer in the building and has been placed on administrative leave by the district.  While we know there may be many questions regarding this situation, the district is limited on the information that can be provided, as this is a personnel and criminal matter.

As we move forward, we want to assure you that we have a plan in place to address the needs of students and staff at Hacker Middle School.

Respectfully,

James Gilbert, Superintendent

Immigration officials arrested 235 criminal aliens across four western states in a multi-day enforcement sweep that took place last week, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The enforcement action targeted immigrants convicted of serious offenses and living in communities across Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana. According to ICE many of the foreign nationals apprehended had been convicted of child sex crimes and assault.

Most of the arrests took place in Utah, where ICE officials apprehended 111 potentially deportable criminals. Nevada yielded 89 arrests, Idaho had 34 and one foreign national was arrested in Montana.

The vast majority if foreign nationals arrested Utah were from Mexico (95), however seven other countries nationals were represented in the arrests, including Guatemala (4); Honduras (4); El Salvador (2); Peru (2); Samoa (2); Brazil (1); and Tonga (1).

The individuals arrested in the six-day sweep are expected to be processed for removal from the U.S. Those who already have removal orders are subject to immediate deportation, according to ICE, and those without final orders will stay in ICE custody while they await deportation hearings.

“ICE’s immigration enforcement efforts are focused on apprehending and removing convicted criminals and individuals who pose a threat to public safety,” Daniel Bible, the director of Enforcement and Removal Operations in Salt Lake City, said in a statement. “Owing to the tireless efforts and teamwork of ICE officers – aided by our federal, state and local partners – there are 111 fewer criminals on the streets of our communities in Utah.”
