In his final week in office, Sri Lanka’s outgoing president has pardoned a death row killer who murdered a Swedish teenager in 2005. The girl’s skull was smashed into 64 pieces during the horrific attack.

Yvonne Jonsson, who had dual Sri Lankan and Swedish nationality, was killed in the stairwell of the Colombo apartment building her family was living in at the time. The attack had come after an argument between the teenager and killer Jude Jayamaha, then aged 19, who reportedly hails from an influential family. 

Jayamaha was initially sentenced to 12 years, but his appeal ended in him being sentenced to death. Confirming the decision to pardon and release him, President Maithripala Sirisena said Jayamaha was imprisoned “over an incident of impatience” and had served his term with good behavior.

In a Facebook post, Jonsson’s sister wrote in detail about her family’s heartbreak over news of the killer’s pardon and release, rejecting any claims the murder was an accident or minor incident. Instead she insisted Jayamaha had planned the attack, waiting outside the apartment for his victim and chasing her down in the brutal assault. 

Caroline Jonsson-Bradley also said the attacker had taken pains to try to destroy evidence of his involvement and evade justice, and the family “will never overcome the pain and distress” he caused by murdering Yvonne. 

“He showed and continues to show absolutely no remorse for what he has done,” she wrote. “To say my sister’s brutal killing has turned our world upside down is an understatement.”

Sri Lankans commenting online shared their disgust over news of the release, sending fresh condolences to the bereaved family and calling the president an “idiot” for the “senseless and meaningless” pardon. 

“Where is the justice for the victim?” one asked. “Shame on you President Sirisena.”

“This is an utter disgrace,” another wrote.

I suspect his retirement fund was somewhat enhanced. Too bad Sri Lankans didn't figure out what kind of man he was years ago.

Toronto man charged with dozens of 

child sex-related offences

A Toronto man has been charged with numerous sex-related offences, police said Wednesday. 

Mohammed Naufal Hadi Mohamed, 52, was arrested on Oct. 29 following an investigation, police said in a news release.

He faces a total of 54 charges, including 14 counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a young person; 12 counts of sexual interference with a person under 14; and two counts of forcible confinement.  

The other charges include:

14 counts of Sexual Assault
Six of Corrupt Child Through Sexual Immorality
Three counts of Unlawfully Engage in Anal Intercourse

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Police believe there are other victims and are asking anyone with more information to come forward.

Heartbreaking words of teen sexual assault victim of Bedford, UK, attacker

A teenage victim of the Bedford attacker in the UK has delivered a heartbreaking victim impact statement detailing how her life has changed.

The girl and her sibling were abused by Charles Wells, 66, of Linden Road, Bedford.

He was jailed on Friday 8 November after being found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and four of sexual assault at Luton Crown Court.

The Cambridge News reports he has been sentenced to three years.

Wells targeted the girl when she was 15 and it wasn't until later that she discovered he'd also been abusing her teenage sibling since four years earlier.

In a victim impact statement one of the victims said: "As a result of what he did, I no longer had the confidence to wear the same clothes as I used to. I felt that if he had those thoughts about me then other people might have the same thoughts.  

"I used to be an open book and allow people into my life, but it now takes a long time for me to trust anyone new," she continued. "I shouldn't be feeling like this. In fact, I don't involve myself in a lot of things that other girls my age are doing, such as going to parties and festivals, as I'm wary of what other people's intentions are.

"I just don't want to put myself in any situation that could put me in danger."

The victim said while she knows what happened to her, she hasn't yet found a way to get over it.

"I find it better to look to the future rather than the past, and at the moment I want to just move forward and think positively," she concluded.

Detective Constable Jenny Bryce, who investigated the case, spoke out against Wells and how he took advantage to "sexually abuse two young people who had put their trust in him", calling it "unfathomable".

"Child sexual abuse is one of the most heinous of crimes and we work tirelessly to support the victims through an investigation and bring these perpetrators to justice," she said, adding that she hoped Wells' time in prison will make him think "long and hard" about his actions.

"Although his sentence can't take away what they have been through, I hope it is of some condolence to them and they are able to move forward with their lives," she added.

It seems, somehow, the judge isn't in full agreement with Jenny's assessment of CSA being one of the most heinous crimes. 3 years is a pathetic sentence for what he did to those girls, whatever he did to those girls.

God-awful Sussex, UK woman, filmed sexual abuse of young girl on Skype for money

A TWISTED woman live-streamed herself sexually abusing a young girl over a period of almost three years.

Christine Callaghan, from Bexhill, was paid thousands of pounds to carry out the horrific acts over Skype.

The 33-year-old admitted four child sexual abuse charges and awaits sentencing.

The warped offences were uncovered as the result of an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) into Jodie Little, who was found guilty of similar offences (3rd story on link).

Dean Petley of Leamington Spa was identified as a customer of Little, who operated under the names “Devil B**** 666” and “DomTabooSlut” on an adult services website from her home in Cyprus.

Police arrested 30-year-old Petley and unearthed an encrypted hard drive at his home. This contained screenshots of Skype conversations with Callaghan over a two-year period. These included images clearly showing her abusing the girl as Petley watched. He could be seen in a small window in the corner of the screen.

The hard drive also contained a ten-minute video of Callaghan abusing the young girl and screenshots of the acts showed at least ten different dates between 2016 and 2018.

She was paid £2,285 ($2922USD) by Petley to carry out the abuse.

Callaghan “performed penetrative sexual activity in front of the victim and also sexually abused her,” according to the NCA.

In Isleworth Crown Court, London, on Friday Callaghan admitted distributing indecent live streamed videos and two counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. She will be sentenced at a date to be confirmed.

At the same hearing Petley, an automotive engineer, admitted 11 charges last month and was jailed for eight years.

Jason Booth, NCA operations manager, said: “Petley and Callaghan’s convictions were only possible because of our determination to make Jodie Little face justice.

“Distance is not a barrier for the NCA in pursuing UK child sex offenders wherever they are.

“The investigation into Little has unravelled other leads that our policing partners are working on.

“These were horrendous crimes, but they’re an example of what the NCA is seeing more and more with increasingly worsening cyber-enabled child sexual offending.

“The NCA knows that the scale and severity of offending against children is worsening.

“We and UK police arrest about 500 child sex offenders a month and safeguard about 700 children a month. There is no greater priority for us than protecting children.”

Child Protection Charity The Lucy Faithfull Foundation runs the Stop It Now! helpline which offers confidential advice to anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s behaviour towards children.

Irish man (64) jailed for three years for

distributing child sex abuse images

Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that Fergus Galvin lost his job and family arising out of the offence.

A 64-YEAR-old man who admitted distributing child sex abuse images at his home in East Cork four years ago has been jailed for six years with the last three years suspended.

Fergus Galvin pleaded guilty to a charge that, on 24 October 2015 at his home at 15 Charleston Wharf, Balick Road, Midleton, County Cork, he knowingly had in his possession sex abuse images, namely 290 files consisting of images and movies portraying child sex abuse.

He also admitted knowingly distributing child sex abuse images between August 27 and 30, 2015.

Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that Mr Galvin had lost his job and family arising out of the offence. 

Judge O’Callaghan said that he was “perplexed” by the openness with which Galvin conducted the offences and the ease with which Gardaí could track the defendant.

Mr Galvin was found guilty and previously served a sentence for similar offences. 

Sinead Behan, BL, representing Mr Galvin, said that his client had at times posed a suicide risk. He was relieved that the case was finally before the courts.

She said that client was very helpful and co-operative with gardaí. Mr Galvin has a background of childhood sexual abuse. 

Judge O’Callaghan said that it was not a “victimless” crime. He stated that children in faraway places were being abused and the persons committing such offences were supporting the “wholesale abuse of young children.”

There was no suggestion that Galvin was involved in the production of such material.

Judge O’Callaghan jailed Mr Galvin for six years suspending the last three years of the sentence to give the defendant “one last chance” to turn his life around.

Wiltshire, UK child rapist found guilty of child sexual abuse

A WILTSHIRE man who was jailed last year for multiple counts of child sex abuse, including rape, has been convicted of further offences after another young victim came forward.

Edward Caldwell, 36, previously from Melksham but currently serving an 18 year prison sentence, had been on trial at Winchester Crown Court.

On Wednesday, a jury found him guilty of three counts of sexual abuse, which took place between 2013 and 2014 when his victim was aged eight and nine.

His sentence will run concurrently to the substantial prison sentence he is already serving after being found guilty in March last year of raping a child under the age of 13, assaulting a child under the age of 13, inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of possessing indecent images of children.

Arrrgggghhhh! I hate concurrent sentences. It must make the victim feel like she's worthless. Her rapist doesn't spend an extra day in jail for the horror he inflicted upon her. When are judges going to consider the victims in their sentencing? This one surely didn't.

As reported, specialist officers caught Caldwell after he downloaded and shared indecent images in November 2016. When he was arrested, officers seized his computer and tablet and discovered 3,700 category A to category C images and films.

Det Con Melonie Neal, of Wiltshire Police's Public Protection Department, was the officer in charge of the previous investigation into Caldwell and took on this new case when a second victim came forward.

She said: "The previous court case and conviction and the fact that Caldwell was now behind bars meant the victim in this case felt safe enough to come forward and speak to police about the abuse she had suffered years earlier.

"This is very often the case in these types of investigation - someone being convicted and imprisoned gives others the courage to report their abuse for the first time.

"I would like to praise both the young girl in this case and her mother, who have had to endure a difficult trial, but have shown incredible bravery through the whole process.

"I hope that this case once again shows victims that we are here to listen to them and we will fully investigate all reports, doing our best to get justice for them.

"If you are reading this and you have been a victim of sexual abuse, no matter how long ago it happened, please do not suffer in silence - please tell someone.

"Please talk to someone you can trust, whether that is a family member, a friend, a charity or the police. There is help and support out there for you."

Growing numbers of people are falling victim to organised gangs who lure them into sending sexually explicit images and then threaten to post the pictures online unless they get payment.

There has been a sharp rise in webcam blackmail, also known as sextortion. The number of cases reported to the police more than doubling between 2015 and 2016, reaching 1,250 last year. This year so far there have been more than 700 cases.

The figures come as the man who blackmailed Ronan Hughes, 17, was jailed for four years. Iulian Enache, 31, shared intimate photos belonging to Ronan after the schoolboy failed to pay a ransom. The teenager killed himself hours afterwards.

4 years is not nearly sufficient for what he did; it's basically a reward. Judges have to get serious with these creeps or the practice will continue to increase exponentially.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) says the true number of sextortion cases could be even larger because many go unreported. It said the issue was high on its agenda.

The NCA put the rise down to better reporting, but also said copycat criminals were inspired by what they read in the media. Some of the gangs involved operated from overseas, it said. 

David Jones, head of the NCA’s anti-kidnap and extortion unit, said: “This is a project that is very close to my heart after the sad deaths of four young men because of sextortion reported in recent times. I strongly suspect there may be other suicides linked to it, but I have no evidence for that. It’s just my speculation.

“We are keeping this issue on the public radar, first and foremost … making sure all intelligence packages are collated and gathered together to fully exploit all opportunities to put people before judicial systems.”

The phenomenon has grown with the use of social media. It can affect anyone, but experts say young men are particularly vulnerable. The majority of cases include men between 18 and 24, but victims have also been as young as 14. Others have been in their 50s to 80s.

The rising figures are mirrored by an increase in calls to the revenge porn helpline, with cases about sextortion rising from 70 in 2015 to 89 last year. They predict a 20% rise in cases this year and a 51% increase from 2015 to 2017.

Organized crime and sextortion

Laura Higgins, who manages the helpline, said: “Sextortion can be committed by individuals or international, organised crime groups. Our advice to victims is: do not pay or give the perpetrators anything that is being demanded, keep all messages as evidence, immediately cease all contact with the individual and report the matter to the local police.

“The victims will often feel silly or shamed. This is not the case. The fault is with the perpetrator or perpetrators who have violated the trust of the victim and abused that power as a means of coercion.”

The NCA said evidence suggests that criminal groups operate in the Philippines, Ivory Coast and Morocco. They pose as young women online and strike up a conversation. They encourage their victims to share explicit photographs and then threaten to share them widely unless they receive payment.

Jones said: “I hope we are on track getting on top of this, but there are likely to be a number of victims who won’t come forward to talk about this because of the embarrassment factor.

“We say don’t do that ... for whatever reason people may not have any form of encouragement or confidence to report the issue but what I will say is that this is something we take a serious view of and it will not be tolerated in any form whatsoever.”

Dr Jessica Barker, a cybersecurity expert, said: “Police figures show a big rise, but that is likely to be the tip of the iceberg as most people who experience sextortion don’t report it to the police. There is a lot of embarrassment about it and lots of people feeling like it only happens to them.

“With these crimes it’s often criminal gangs, not individuals in their bedroom doing this. These people operate almost like businesses, having office space and teams.”

She said teenage girls could also be affected. “What I hear from the female point of view is that teenage girls get targeted over Instagram and get messages. So someone will comment on their photo on Instagram and say: ‘I am a model agent or talent scout. I am a casting director in Los Angeles and you have the look we want.’ They will exchange messages and build up a rapport and then say, ‘We need more photos’, and that will go on until they get the girl to send explicit images and then it reverts to sextortion.”

Vicky Green of the charity Marie Collins Foundation said young people should be educated about manipulation and that the fault lies not with them for sending a picture but the perpetrator for soliciting it.

Jon Pearn, 64, from Plymouth: ‘I told the person trying to blackmail me, this is your unlucky day’

I was on my Facebook and someone sent me a friend request and I pressed yes by accident. The person I accepted was supposedly a young lady and they started sending me private messages.

They asked to Skype me and eventually we spoke over that. She asked: “Do you like sex?” I jokingly replied: “Who doesn’t?” And then she said: “You show me yours and I will show you mine.”

I said OK but as she suggested it, then she should go first. I was shown a woman stripping over Skype and then I showed her a photo of my penis in response.

That’s when the tone changed and the person I was speaking to told me that they were called Angel and they wanted money from me or they would send the pictures to my nieces. I think because we were friends on Facebook they could see my family and knew how to get in touch with them.

Now I look back, I think the clip I saw on Skype may have just been a video of someone. I don’t know, it probably wasn’t real.

The language when I was asked for money was quite threatening. They said: “Pay up or we will ruin your life.” They asked for £500 initially but I said: “Do what you want. I don’t care.” I told them it was their unlucky day as they had messed with the wrong person. 

Eventually they lowered their ask to £100 but I still told them to bugger off. I did think that it would have been different if I had been married or in a relationship but I had nothing to lose. 

This happened to me two years ago and I went to the police, but I am not sure if the perpetrator was ever caught. My message is, on Facebook don’t friend people you don’t know. If people threaten you, don’t be ashamed tell the police. Tell them to get stuffed.

Norway Skype Child Sex Abuse: Man Found Guilty

A court in Norway has sentenced a 66-year-old man to eight years in jail for child sex abuse via Skype.

The man coerced children in Norway and the Philippines to engage in filmed sex acts.

He was convicted of sending cash to a family in the Philippines so they could arrange for the abuse to take place.

Some of the sex involved children under the age of 14 and was streamed live on the internet. NRK said he abused 62 children, 20 from the Philippines.

It said that he was found guilty of six counts of child sex abuse.

The man, who has not been named but is from Bergen, transferred his disability benefits to a family in the Philippines who then arranged for the children to be abused, TheLocal.no reported.

The other 42 children in the case were tricked by the man on various internet chat services when he pretended to be a young teenager in order to win the trust of his victims and then manipulate them into carrying out sex acts, Local.no said.

In November, Norwegian police carried out "Operation Darkroom", arresting more than 50 men who were suspected of taking part in a separate online paedophile network.

Those held by police came from all sections of society, NewsinEnglish.No reported.

‘It’s a Trap!’ Norwegian Man Impersonated Girl on Facebook to Sexually Exploit 60 Boys

A man in his late 20s from the Norwegian city of Tromsø allegedly posed as a 15-year-old girl on Facebook to sexually abuse around 60 young boys.

The Tromsø police have disclosed some details regarding the investigation on Tuesday. Most of the victims were aged between 12 and 15 at the time, when the alleged crimes took place between 2014 and 2016. The suspect has been in custody since March, though few details in the case have been revealed until now.

“Police have so far provided little information to the media. The reason for this is our concern for the victims and the danger that they will not speak freely on the matter if it is discussed in the media,” The Local Norway quotes the police prosecutor’s statement as saying.

Most of the victims were from the Tromsø area, but the scope of the case is increasing as police search for possible victims in other parts of the Nordic country.

“Up until now, we have spoken with around 60 victims and police are still working on analyzing the data that was seized. The scope of the case will increase as the investigation is still ongoing,” The Local Norway quotes Tromsø Police spokeswoman Elin Norgård Strand as saying.

According to the police, the suspect used fake profiles on Facebook and Skype and posed as a 15-year-old girl to lure the victims into exchanging explicit photos and videos. Besides that, the suspect met several victims in person and allegedly had physical sexual contact with the children under the age of 16.

“The accused man met some of the victims physically. He came into contact with them via a different route than the false profiles and presented himself with his true identity,” Strand said.

The man is charged with multiple violations of the Norway Penal Code. Besides the sexual offences, the suspect is charged with possession of illegal images and videos of children. According to the police, the illegal content was intended for personal use only and did not spread across the web.

The suspect has partially admitted his guilt.


Another sorely demented pervert

In another widely reported sexual offense case in Norway, a man in his 60s has been charged with bestiality and possession of child pornography, with hearings opening early in September. The suspect was initially arrested in 2015 and charged with repeated violations of animal welfare laws. The man allegedly had had sex with cows and calves while trespassing on several farms starting in 2001. During the investigation, a stash of 2,217,391 illegal photos and 3,496 videos of a sexual nature was uncovered on the man’s computer. The illegal materials reportedly included ones showing sexual abuse of minors.

Abusers Streaming Child Sex Abuse Footage Through Video Chat Apps

Criminal gangs are recruiting disadvantaged children or their own children for live, online, sex abuse, according to a disturbing new report from Europol.

There has never been a shortage of creativity, nor a limitation of the least bit of decency, when it comes to ways of perversely abusing children. I think sentencing in Europe needs to get a lot tougher on degenerates who abuse particularly vulnerable children for pleasure and profit.

HI-TECH CRIMINALS are increasingly selling live streams of child sex over legitimate chat sites and apps, such as Skype, for hard-to-trace virtual currencies like Bitcoin, Europe’s policing agency has warned.

“Criminals that sexually exploit children online are becoming more entrepreneurial with technological developments and are profiting financially,” Europol said in a special report on commercial sexual exploitation of children online.

Compiled by Europol’s EC3 cybercrime centre, together with Eurojust, NGOs, credit card and online giants such as Google and Microsoft, the report paints a disturbing picture of rising online child abuse.

The sale of child abuse live streams over legitimate chat sites or video chat apps is much harder to trace than when the abuse is sold from a website.

“The research shows that the live streaming of abuse for payment is no longer an emerging trend but an established reality,” the report said.

Criminal gangs recruit disadvantaged children or their own children for the abuse.

“These persons offer homeless children or children from their own family for the sexual abuse by individuals, live in front of a camera, in the European Union or developing countries, for financial gain,” the report said.

Paedophile ring 
Filippino police recently busted a paedophile ring that streamed live sex involving children as young as six, the report said.

Police rescued 15 victims aged between six and 15, and arrested 29 people including gang members and people who allegedly paid to watch the abuse in 13 countries.

Over 700 other suspected purchasers of online child sex abuse filmed in the Philippines have been identified, Europol said.

Like using legitimate, mainstream chat sites to broadcast the abuse, payment using virtual currencies such as Bitcoin also makes the criminals harder to trace than if they were taking credit card payments.

Last year investigators for the first time came across child abuse being sold exclusively for Bitcoins, the report said.

Police and the private sector should monitor the Internet for the growth of alternative forms of payment “as a potential consequence of further migration from traditional payment systems to a new, largely unregulated digital economy,” Europol said.

Isn't there some way that Skype and video chat rooms can monitor what is being shared for child pornography? If there isn't, there should be. I'm sure the technology is available. I'm not sure the motivation is there.
