UK paedophile who Sexually Abused Child & Fled to Canada Jailed

A paedophile has been jailed for sexually abusing a child. He was arrested

after being tracked to a mechanic’s workshop in Canada

Mohammed Schwitters, aged 55, of Birmingham, was jailed for 18 years for child sex offences. The paedophile was located in a mechanic’s workshop in Canada.

Birmingham Crown Court heard that he sexually abused a child over a period of seven years. The abuse started when the girl was just 10-years-old.

According to West Midlands Police, the offending happened between 2010 and 2017. Officers arrested Schwitters when the offences were reported in 2017. But during the investigation, the paedophile fled the country.

Over the next three years, officers from the force’s Public Protection Unit worked to track Schwitters down. Working with the Canadian Authorities, officers arrested Schwitters on September 1, 2020. Officers tracked the mobile phone number and bank accounts Schwitters used to a mechanic’s workshop in Toronto.

He was extradited back to the UK and appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on December 10, 2021, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on a child, three counts of attempted rape and three counts of assault by penetration.

Schwitters was sentenced to 18 years in prison. The paedophile was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

After sentencing, Detective Constable Kat Sands said:

“This case really highlights how we take reports of sexual abuse very seriously and will work with survivors, help get them the support they need, and work with them to bring offenders to justice.

“It is never too late to report sexual abuse and we will leave no stone unturned to get justice.”

“While this sentence can never undo what happened, I hope the victim will find some comfort in knowing justice has been served.

In a previous incident, a shop owner and shopkeeper befriended a young boy, who spent time inside the shop.

Former shop owner Hannan Ullah and shopkeeper Mohammed Shahabir Alom from Ferus Superstore in Westferry went on to sexually assault him on four separate occasions over a three-week period between January 15 and February 2, 2018.

All four of the sexual assaults happened inside the shop, sometimes in a storage room. The shop has since been closed down.

Following the fourth offence, the boy told his mother what had happened to him and this was reported to police.

Both men were charged in May 2019. Ullah was charged with one count of sexual activity with a child. Alom was charged with three counts of sexual touching of a boy under 13.

Following a four-day trial in November 2021, both men were convicted.

Ullah was jailed for two years and four months, of which 14 months will be served on licence.

Good grief! Did the judge give him a gold watch too? One year and 2 months in jail for messing up a little kid. It's like a reward! Somebody appeal this sentence, it's atrocious. 

Alom was also sentenced to two years and four months in prison, of which 14 months will be served on licence.

Martine Vik Magnussen, 23, was found dead among rubble in a basement in Great Portland Street, Westminster, central London, after a night out with friends to celebrate coming top of the class in her exams. A post mortem found she had been strangled. 

It also found that she had been raped!

CCTV showed her leaving exclusive Mayfair nightclub Maddox at 2am on March 14 with Farouk Abdulhak, the son of a Yemeni sugar magnate and a fellow student at the private Regent's Business School who she had previously dated.  

The alleged murderer - nicknamed 'DP' by friends for his love of Dom Perignon champagne - was named as being wanted by police and fled the UK within hours of her death, allegedly on his late billionaire father's private jet. 

Farouk Abdulhak was quickly identified as a suspect for Martine's murder. Abdulhak fled the UK within hours of Martine's death, travelling to Egypt and then on to Yemen. 

Ms Magnussen's father, Odd Petter Magnussen, has branded Abdulhak a coward and personally appealed for him to return, adding, 'You cannot hide forever'.

On Monday, 14 years to the day since her death, Mr Magnussen and his ex-wife, Martine's mother Kristin Vik, laid flowers outside Regent's University, Regent's Park, where their daughter, who finished her course at the top of her class, had been studying. 

Last week a woman in her 60s was arrested in Westminster on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the case in an apparent breakthrough by the Metropolitan Police, although she has now been released on bail.

Mr Magnussen said: 'Fourteen years on this latest step ... came as a huge surprise last week. I'm absolutely convinced that this is a huge step forward in trying to achieve justice in this case.'

The family met police officers on Monday, and while investigators were not able to reveal the identity of the suspect, Mr Magnussen said he is 'impressed' with the way they are handling the case.

He has also had encouraging conversations with the authorities in Yemen, where it is hoped that the shifting political situation could mean Abdulhak has less protection.

Mr Magnussen said: 'We are having a very interesting, mutually respectful dialogue with the leadership on this case and I'm so pleased to see that we are able to sit down with them in telephone conferences and discuss a solution to this case, in a rational, constructive, productive and polite way.'

Abdulhak's father Shaher, who died from cancer in 2020, was a billionaire nicknamed 'the King of Sugar', with a net worth of around £6.8billion and close contacts in the Yemeni government. 

He previously had investments in Coca-Cola bottling plants but gave these up in 2012 following pressure from campaigners. He died in Germany last year while receiving treatment for an illness. 

Abdulhak allegedly fled the UK on his father's jet within hours of Ms Magnussen's murder

On the night she died, Ms Magnussen left the Maddox nightclub with Farouk Abdulhak at around 2am and her body was found in the basement of the building where he lived.

He studied international business relations alongside the Norwegian at Regent's Business School, where fees start at around £10,000 a year. Her body was found in the basement of a block of flats where he lived. 

A post-mortem examination gave her cause of death as compression to the neck, and in November 2010 an inquest recorded a verdict of unlawful killing.

Speaking after the arrest last week, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood, who is leading the investigation, added: 'Martine's family has never given up their fight for justice and in the 14 years since her death they have campaigned tirelessly to keep her in the public consciousness.

'Martine's family has been informed of this latest development. Though it represents a positive step, there is still much more work for us to do.

'Most importantly, Farouk Abdulhak should be aware that this matter has not, and will not, go away.

'My team and I will continue to seek justice and use all opportunities available to pursue him and bring him back to the UK. His status as a wanted man will remain and we will not cease in our efforts to get justice for Martine's family.

'I'm appealing to Farouk Abdulhak directly. Come back to the UK. Come back to face justice. Since Martine's death, her family has shown true determination, together with my investigation team as we want to provide some closure for Martine's family.'

In 2008, Abdulhak issued comments through his lawyer saying he was 'not happy' about being branded a criminal and insisting he was not an 'escapee'. His lawyer, Mohammed Al Bakwli, said he had advised Abdulhak not to speak directly to the media.

'Deeply unsettling' Boston reveals documents from mid-90s investigation into officer who later became union chief

Boston city officials on Tuesday released documents related to a decades-old sex abuse investigation involving a former police officer and union chief who is now charged with molesting multiple children.

"Based on a review of former Officer Rose’s internal affairs file conducted by the City’s Law Department, it is clear that previous leaders of the police department neglected their duty to protect and serve," Mayor Kim Janey said in a statement that accompanied the redacted documents that were released Tuesday.

The 14 pages of documents included a memo addressed to Janey, Internal Affairs Recommendations and Assessment documents related to a 1995 child abuse allegation filed against Patrick Rose Sr. Other pages from the file were not released, citing the need to keep the names of witnesses and victims of sexual assault confidential.

Rose, 66, is now a retired officer and the one-time president of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association. He was initially charged last August when a father and his teenage daughter reported that the girl had been repeatedly molested by Rose from age 7 through 12.

Within weeks, five more people came forward to accuse Rose of molesting them as children.

Rose first faced child abuse allegations in 1995 when the department filed a criminal complaint against Rose for sexual assault on a 12-year-old child.

The documents released Tuesday indicate that a 1996 Internal Affairs review sustained the allegations against Rose, who has been relieved of his weapon and placed on administrative duty.

However, in 1997 the union wrote a letter saying they were considering a grievance about Rose's case. After that, Rose was returned to full duty.

"It is deeply unsettling and entirely unacceptable that Rose remained on the force for two decades and eventually became the president of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association," Janey said. "What's more, Rose was allowed to have contact with young victims of sexual assault during the course of his career, and we now know that he allegedly went on to assault several other children."

In the recent cases, Rose pleaded not guilty to 33 total charges involving six alleged victims and is being held on $200,000 cash bail.

The Boston Police Department in a statement to the Associated Press last week said it was legally prohibited from commenting “on the facts and circumstances of the 1995 investigation of these horrific allegations.”

“My client maintains his innocence to all of the charges that have been brought against him and he maintains his innocence to what was alleged to have transpired back in 1995,” his attorney, William J. Keefe, said.

South Carolina man sentenced to 5 years for sharing

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A Horry County man has been sentenced to five years in prison for sharing explicit photos of several minors.

Antwon Nasir McCoy has pled guilty to three counts of 2nd-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of dissemination of obscene material to a person under the age of 18.

In December of 2018, the Horry County Sheriff’s Office received four CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A social media site reported that a user uploaded files of what appeared to be child sexual abuse material.

An investigation discovered that three female minors had sent nude images of themselves to Antwon McCoy. Officials say McCoy also sent nude images of himself to the victims.

Sgt. Tim Troxell with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants on the social media site that received the images and obtained the chat threads between the victims and McCoy.

On April 30, 2019, Sgt. Troxell located and interviewed McCoy. He confessed to the allegations.

Judge Kristi F. Curtis sentenced McCoy to five years in prison, with credit for the 720 days he had already served.

McCoy will be required to register as a sex offender and will forfeit the device that contained the files of children being sexually exploited.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General R. Quentin Gaddy.

Police seek public’s help finding 67-year-old accused of

sexual abuse involving 7 y/o girl

JACKSON TWP., Montgomery County — Jackson Township police are searching for a 67-year-old man wanted for gross sexual imposition after he was indicted earlier this month.

Claude Kidd, 67, is wanted after police said he was accused of the crime involving a 7-year-old girl he knew, according to police.

The sex crime is said to have happened last June at the home of a relative of the child, police said.

Police believe Kidd may be living in Kentucky.

Mata is wanted on one count of Continuous Sex Abuse of a Child under 14 and one count of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact.

Former School Paraprofessional Takes Plea Bargain

for Shooting and Killing Sex Offender

Nebraska man and former school paraprofessional James Fairbanks, 44, pleaded no contest on Thursday to second-degree murder for shooting convicted sex offender Mattieo Condoluci, 64, in a 2020 confrontation, according to Omaha World-Herald.

There’s no dispute Fairbanks did it. He repeatedly admitted to the act, even sending a letter to media outlets before his arrest. As far as the prosecution was concerned, the dispute was over whether Fairbanks did the right thing, and whether the defense was disingenuous.

“There are a lot of criminals in the world,” said chief deputy Douglas County attorney Brenda Beadle. “You don’t get to confront them and then try to claim self-defense. Especially when you do all this research on someone a week before you murder them.”

Condoluci was convicted of child molestation in a 1994 Florida case, and a 2007 case out of Sarpy County, Nebraska. Prosecutors in the latter incident considered him a “dangerous sex offender” even after his 2009 release from prison. For a time, Condoluci went onto become a street minister to the homeless in Omaha, serving meals and giving haircuts.

He was considered a dangerous offender, yet he was convicted in 2007 and was already out of prison in 2009! How can that be?

But Fairbanks, who was the father of sons aged 12 and 17, said he was apartment hunting and learned of Condoluci’s past when researching the neighborhood he planned on moving into. He claimed to have witnessed him pretending to wash a truck in order to leer at a group of nearby children.

The defense account is that an armed Fairbanks went to Condoluci’s home, told him he was moving nearby, and pointed at the rifle at him — not to murder Condoluci, but to warn him against harming any other kids.

Condoluci backed up, but the defendant mistook an object for a purse, and thought a woman might have been at the scene. In that moment, the resident allegedly charged Fairbanks, who opened fire multiple times.

Prosecutors basically called this story a bunch of B.S: the defendant was not apartment hunting, he was pedophile hunting. Before the incident, Fairbanks looked up whether the state’s death row had a commissary, what punishments men got for killing sex offenders in the past, whether a local gunshot alert system could hear such sounds from inside a home, how self-defense was defined as opposed to second-degree murder, and even the way to another sex offender’s home.

Fairbanks has apparently gotten the lion’s share of support on this. Laura Smith certainly shed no tears for the deceased man. She is the mother of the boy in the 1994 Florida case, and started a Facebook group against Condoluci. Smith said her son died of drug problems in 2017, and she blamed it on the abuse. Accordingly, she told the World-Herald last year that she did not think Fairbanks should get jail time.

Condoluci’s daughter Amanda Henry, who said her father abused her as a child, argued that Fairbanks should only get probation.

“Murdering my dad was a horrible thing,” she said. “But children are much safer now, any other child he could have hurt is much safer.”

Fairbanks’ ex-wife Kelly Tamayo, who previously sought protection orders against him in 2016 and 2018, also voiced support despite their past.

A prison term is inescapable, however. Under the terms of the plea bargain, Fairbanks faces 21 years to life at the sentencing set for July 14. The victim’s son Joe Condoluci acknowledged his father’s criminal history and was distraught over his sister’s allegations, but he said that Fairbanks was looking for evil reasons behind his father’s routine behavior, such as cleaning his truck.

“The guy didn’t know my dad,” he told KETV in 2020. “He didn’t know anything about him all. He knew was stuff that he’s seen online.”

The defendant told the World-Herald after court that he regretted what he put his family through.

Insurance Company The Hartford to Pay Boy Scouts of America

$650 Million

Attorneys for victims of child sex abuse have said the proposed settlement is not nearly sufficient for the tens of thousands of claims against the Scouts.

Insurance company The Hartford has agreed to pay the Boy Scouts of America $650 million as part of the latter group’s bankruptcy proceedings.

As the Hartford Courant earlier reported, the Boy Scouts of America—along with several of its local councils—filed a lawsuit against the insurance company in 2018. In their complaint, the Boy Scouts alleged that The Hartford had issued it policies which should have covered some of the sexual assault claims now pending against the Scouts.

“We are deeply sympathetic to the victims of childhood sexual abuse and the enduring trauma they suffer,” The Hartford spokesman Matthew Sturdevant said. “Our agreement with BSA is an encouraging step towards a global resolution that will promote the BSA’s efforts to equitably compensate survivors.”

According to The Associated Press, the funds will be deposited into a trust for victims of child sexual abuse.

In exchange for the payment, the Boy Scouts will release The Hartford from any obligations the insurer may have held from policies issued to the BSA dating back to 1971.

“The agreement, entered into after extensive negotiations, contemplates that, in exchange for The Hartford’s payment, the BSA and its local councils will fully release The Hartford from any obligation under policies it issued to the BSA and its local councils,” The Hartford said in a news release.

The settlement, notes The Associated Press, was submitted to the courts on Friday by a team of mediators who are working to resolve tens of thousands of sex abuse claims lodged against the Boy Scouts, even as the BSA heads towards bankruptcy.

“Our agreement with The Hartford is an encouraging step towards achieving a global resolution that will promote the BSA’s efforts to equitably compensate survivors and continue the mission of Scouting,” the Boy Scouts said in a statement. “We are committed to continuing our mediation efforts with all parties and look forward to sharing additional updates as these discussions progress.”

However, the settlement comes with a catch: The Hartford’s gross payment will be reduced if the Boy Scouts or the victims’ trust enters into an agreement with another insurer—Century Indemnity Company—and Century settles for less than two times the amount which The Hartford paid.

The Associated Press notes that, even without the potential reduction, attorneys representing abuse victims were “appalled” by the agreement.

“It’s outrageous,” said attorney Paul Mones, who is representing hundreds of abuse victims. “Their real liability is in the billions of dollars.”

“This is just business as usual for the Boy Scouts—paying lip service to their supposed understanding and concern for their horrific legacy of sex abuse, but not doing anything substantive,” he added.

If the settlement is not approved by abuse victims, then the Boy Scouts will create a self-funded trust. However, that trust will only pay claims filed against the national scouting organization and exclude those made against local councils.

The official tort claims committee, notes The Associated Press, estimates the value of the approximately 84,000 claims against the Boy Scouts as $103 billion. Right now, the Boy Scouts estimates that its settlement trust, once fully funded, will be worth anywhere between $2 billion and $7 billion.

$103 billion dollars is only $1,500,000 for each of the 84,000 claims. That is likely a gross overestimate. However, $5 billion dollars would leave about $60,000 for each victim, which is well short of what seems fair, if anything is ever fair in child sexual abuse.

Fort Collins, Co man who fled country found guilty

in 2002 child sex assault case

A Fort Collins man was found guilty Tuesday of sexually assaulting a close friend's child more than two decades ago. 

James Bachmann, 57, was found guilty of five charges: 

Bachmann was initially arrested in July 2002, but shortly before his first scheduled trial in spring 2004 he fled to Switzerland. Because of his dual citizenship, he could not be extradited from Switzerland back to the U.S., Deputy District Attorney Renee Doak said during closing statements Monday.

An international warrant was filed for his arrest, and in 2019 Bachmann was arrested in Qatar and extradited to Larimer County.

The victim — who is now in his 30s — told his parents back in 2002 that Bachmann inappropriately touched him during sleepovers at Bachmann’s house when Bachmann thought he was asleep, Deputy District Attorney Luke Birky told the jury during opening statements at the start of the trial last week.

In the jury's ruling, Bachmann was convicted of having inappropriate sexual contact with the child multiple times over three years, while the child was in seventh through ninth grades. He was also found guilty of taking and possessing a sexually exploitative photo of the child while he slept.

Eighth Judicial District Judge Juan Villaseñor ordered a presentence investigation, sexually violent predator assessment and offense-specific evaluation to aid in determining an appropriate sentence for Bachmann. 

Bachmann remains in the Larimer County Jail without bond. His sentencing is scheduled for July 16. 

If you think a child is being harmed

The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, an anti-sexual violence organization, lists tips for what to do if you suspect a child is being harmed.

1. Recognize the signs

The signs of abuse aren't necessarily obvious, but they include:

Behavioral signs: Shrinking away from physical contact, thumb sucking or other regressive behaviors, changing hygiene routines, engaging in age-inappropriate sexual behaviors, or having sleep disturbances or nightmares

Verbal cues: Using words or phrases that are "too adult" for their age, unexplained silence or suddenly being less talkative

Physical signs: Bruising or swelling near the genital area, blood on sheets or undergarments or broken bones

2. Talk to the child

Pick your time and place carefully and find a place the child feels comfortable. Be aware of your tone. Try to make the conversation more casual and be non-threatening.

Talk to the child directly. Ask questions that use the child's own vocabulary but are a little vague. For example, "Has someone been touching you?" In this context "touching" can mean different things, but it is likely a word the child is familiar with. The child can respond with questions or comments to help you better gauge the situation like, "No one touches me except my mom at bath time," or "You mean like the way my cousin touches me sometimes?" Understand that sexual abuse can feel good to the child, so asking if someone is "hurting" them may not bring out the information that you are looking for.

Listen and follow up, but avoid judgment and blame. 

Reassure the child, and make sure they know they're not in trouble.

Be patient. Remember this conversation may be very frightening for the child. Many perpetrators make threats about what will happen if someone finds out about the abuse. 

3. Report it

Reporting a crime like sexual abuse might not be easy, and it can be emotionally draining.

Keep in mind that reporting abuse gives you the chance to protect someone who can't protect themselves. 

Before you report, tell the child that you're going to talk to someone who can help. Be clear that you are not asking their permission.

10 arrested in online child enticement operation in Aurora, Co

The two-day online operation was conducted on April 8 and 9 within the city of Aurora. The task force arrested individuals who were allegedly attempting to arrange sexual encounters with a minor.

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A multi-agency operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects for allegedly attempting to arrange sexual encounters with a minor online.

The Aurora Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children, Homeland Security Investigations and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation worked together as the Colorado Cyber Guardian Task Force. The task force targets those who engage in the enticement of children for sexual purposes online.

The two-day online operation was conducted on April 8 and 9 within the city of Aurora.

The Colorado Cyber Guardian Task Force has released the suspects’ names, ages, self-declared city of residence, and self-declared or otherwise known professions:

Edgar R. Pando-Caprio, 23, Denver, is employed as a contracted overnight janitor working within the Cherry Creek School District (The district is aware of the arrest and will independently provide more information to staff, parents and public).

Laurentino Espinoza-Pena, 56, Aurora, is self-employed providing maintenance services.

Tommy Kilcher, 43, Aurora, self-declared employment at Cardinal Health.

Joseph M. Goetz, 59, Aurora, self-declared Business Owner of Rio Leasing LLC.

Jeremy J. Steward, 42, Aurora, historically reported as working in the restaurant/bar industry.

Brent W. Murray II, 30, Highlands Ranch, has historically self-declared employment as a drone pilot with USA Security.

Joshua J. Wagner, 46, Denver, did not declare employment at time of arrest.

Dylan J. Cornhoff, 27, Aurora, did not declare employment at time of arrest.

Peter D. Rodriguez, 50, Denver, declared employment with a company only identified as Performance and worked as a loader.

Joshua D. Garcia, 37, Westminster, declared employment with Hertz as a car attendant.

At minimum, each suspect was charged with soliciting a child for prostitution, criminal attempt and patronizing of a prostituted child. The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will handle the prosecution.

“Child sex abuse is one of the most serious crimes HSI investigates due to the lasting psychological and physical damage it can inflict on victims,” said special agent in charge of Denver’s Homeland Security Investigations, Steven Cagen.

The organizations involved in the Colorado Cyber Guardian Task Force want to remind parents to keep an eye on their child’s online presence and to have conversations with their children about the dangers of the internet to prevent them from being a victim of a child sex predator.

Colorado Police Officer Who Forced Handcuffed Woman He Was Taking Home From Hospital Into Sex Gets 90 Days in Jail

A Colorado police officer who forced a handcuffed woman he was supposed to be taking home from the hospital to have sex with him was sentenced to just 90 days in jail followed by four years on probation after admitting the sexual assault. His victim was left with PTSD.

Curtis Lee Arganbright, 41, stopped his Westminster police patrol car during the ride home, ordered the woman out of the vehicle, and forced her to have sex on the front while she was still cuffed, 9News reported, citing an affidavit.

He then made her perform oral sex on him before driving her home, warning her "she better not tell anyone about this," and handed her his business card telling his victim to "call me sometime," the affidavit said about the incident, which took place on August 24, 2017.

The 36-year-old woman had admitted herself to the St. Anthony North Health Campus Hospital in Westminster for alcoholism. Police were called when hospital staff accused her of attempting to steal items from the emergency room.

Arganbright was dispatched but the hospital agreed not to press charges if he took her home. It was on that journey that Arganbright sexually assaulted the woman in the early hours of the morning.

She returned the hospital the following day saying she had been sexually assaulted. Officers from Broomfield Police were called to the hospital to bring a rape kit.

Arganbright was arrested and, while he was suspended without pay, resigned from Westminster Police Department.

He pleaded guilty to counts of unlawful sexual contact and official misconduct, both misdemeanors. As part of his sentence Arganbright must also register as a sex offender and enter a treatment program, The Denver Post reported.

Child Sexual Abuse Charges

(Stillwater, Okla.) — Authorities are searching for a Stillwater man accused of providing enough alcohol to get a 13-year-old female relative intoxicated and sexually abusing her at his residence in the 3900 block of W. Westbrook Drive on three occasions.

An arrest warrant was issued on June 3 for Charles Scott Cartwright, 35, but he was not in the Payne County Jail this afternoon, a sheriff’s spokesman told KUSH.

The girl said “it happens only on holidays and when she is allowed to consume alcoholic beverages,” Stillwater Police Officer Shawn Millermon alleged in an affidavit.

When Cartwright was interviewed after a search warrant was served at his residence, he denied the allegations and called the girl a liar, the affidavit alleged.

The Stillwater officer had been sent on May 24 to the Stillwater Medical Center emergency room to assist in investigating the sexual assault of a minor female, his affidavit said.

When the girl was interviewed the next morning at the Saville Center, “she disclosed that on May 22, 2020, she had been drinking with Scott Cartwright in his garage when he took her to the backyard of his home,” and sexually assaulted her, the affidavit alleged.

The girl “stated this was not the first time Scott had sexually assaulted her. (She) disclosed that on March 17, 2020, and on Dec. 23, 2019, Scott sexually assaulted her,” the affidavit alleged.

“During the incident on March 17, 2020, (the girl) stated she again was allowed to drink in the garage with Scott. (She) stated Scott carried her to the sun room,” where she was assaulted, the affidavit alleged.

“During the incident on Dec. 23, (the girl) stated she and Scott had been drinking in the garage. (She) stated she remembered waking up to Scott being on top of her and she was naked,” the affidavit alleged.

If convicted of three counts of child sexual abuse by lewd molestation and/or sexual intercourse with the girl, Cartwright could be given as much as three life prison terms.

Six months after a Cortland man convicted of possessing child pornography skipped sentencing, city police are looking for new tips about his whereabouts.

The Cortland Police Department posted a wanted poster of Michael Earl Marks Friday on its Facebook page in the hopes of generating new leads, said Lt. David Guerrera on Monday.

Marks confessed in a signed statement to Sgt. Dan Edwards almost two years ago, on June 27, 2018, that he downloaded 80 to 90 images of child pornography onto his cell phone, according to the court papers. The State Police Computer Crimes Unit discovered 180 images on his phone, the papers note. A Cortland County Grand Jury indicted Marks on 11 counts of felony possessing a sexual performance by a child on May 10, 2019 and was scheduled to face trial Oct. 29, 2019, the papers show. After Judge Julie Campbell denied pretrial motions to dismiss the indictment and suppress the cell phone evidence, Marks pled guilty in October to one felony count as part of a plea deal for a sentence of one to three in state prison, according to court documents.

But Marks never arrived for his sentencing in January.

Despite being present in the Courthouse for his Jan. 2 sentencing, Marks left against the advice of his public defender and left, Campbell stated for the court record in January. After he failed to appear again a week later, Campbell issued a warrant for Marks.

Marks was still a fugitive as of Tuesday afternoon, said Lt. Michael Strangeway in a phone interview.

Police have received tips that he is staying with family in Whitney Point and have forwarded the information to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, said Guerrera on Monday. Marks also has family in New York City that he may run to, he added.

“I imagine we’ll run across him at some point,” Guerrera said, urging anyone with information to contact the Cortland Police Department at 607-753-3001.

Now that sounds like a man who is enthusiastic to get justice for Mark's victims and safeguard other children! Good grief!

The wanted poster describes Marks as a 29-year-old white man, 6 foot tall, weighing 220 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a tattoo on his lower left arm that reads “Mikey” and another on his right shoulder that reads “No love lost, no love found.” He also has a cross tattoo on his upper right arm. A fourth tattoo on his left shoulder was not described in the poster.

In addition to the child pornography charges, Marks is also wanted for felony burglary of a dwelling and misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration, as well as criminal impersonation, endangering and harassment.

Information regarding those additional charges and Marks’ bail status before he fled were not available this afternoon. However, the charges do not stem from additional crimes prosecuted in Cortland County Court, according to court documents.

The maximum sentence for one count of possessing a sexual performance by a child is four years, according to the state penal law.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has received 65 million reports of child pornography, or child sex abuse material, since 1998. The center has also reviewed 312 million images and helped police identify 18,900 children being sexually assaulted in the pornography, according to its website.

“It’s important to remember CSAM consists of much more than just images and video files,” the website cautions. “While CSAM is seen and transmitted on computers and through other technology, these images and videos depict actual crimes being committed against children.”

BAKERSFIELD – A California City man who was accused and found guilty of Sexual Abuse received a sentence of 145 years to Life when he appeared in a Bakersfield court room on June 2nd.

According to court records, 51-year old Clifford Lamont Bunn was sentenced to 145 years to Life in Wasco State Prison with 525 days credit and fined $1,230 after he was found guilty of several counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child 10 years old or younger.


As we reported on March 22nd; Mr. Bunn appeared for a Pre Preliminary Hearing on March 13th and was being held in lieu of over $3 million, a jury trial for Bunn started on Oct. 28, 2019 and continued until he was found guilty on all charges on Feb. 4, 2020; Bunn was scheduled to be sentenced on March 17th however, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and Calif. state-mandated “Safer at Home” order from Governor Newsom, his sentencing was continued until June 2nd. The Bunn family is relieved at the sentence and has no comments at this time.

Washington, DC (STL.News) Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Division Physical and Sexual Abuse Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference to a First Degree Child Sex Abuse offense that occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, in the 3600 block of Hayes Street, Northeast.

At approximately 4:45 am, the suspect forcibly committed a sexual act against the victim and took belongings without right.

On Wednesday, June 7, 2020, 18 year-old Devon Young Jr., of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with First Degree Child Sexual Abuse and Theft II, the suspect was also charged with the unrelated charges of Carrying a Pistol without a License and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

Texas grand jury hands down 4 indictments

for child pornography, child sex crimes

A Harrison County grand jury recently met, handing down several indictments for child sexual abuse crimes.

In one case, a 40-year-old man, of Jefferson, was indicted for six counts of possession of child pornography, which are third degree felonies.

According to the indictment, the defendant, Daniel Wayde McFarland, allegedly possessed child pornography six times, on Dec. 4, 2017. The indictment goes on to say that McFarland intentionally and knowingly possessed visual material that he knew depicted a child who was younger than age 18, engaging in sexual conduct.

In an unrelated case, the grand jury indicted a 46-year-old Harleton man for two counts of sexual assault of a child, which are second degree felonies.

According to the indictment, the defendant, Rickey Loyd Cunningham, allegedly sexually assaulted a child younger than age 17 on April 1, 2018, and on Jan. 14, 2020.

In another unrelated case, the grand jury indicted 57-year-old Fernando Ramirez-Cabrera, of Marshall, for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact.

According to the indictment, on or about Nov. 1, 2012, Ramirez-Cabrera allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a child younger than age 14. The indictment goes on to say that also on Nov. 1, 2012, Cabrera reportedly engaged in sexual contact with a child younger than age 17.

In another unrelated case, the grand jury indicted 60-year-old Lloyd Kenneth Kelding, of Marshall, for indecency with a child by sexual contact. 

According to his indictment, Kelding allegedly engaged in sexual contact with a child younger than age 17 on or about Oct. 15, 2018.

Idaho Falls man sent to prison for years of child sex abuse

IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man was sent to prison this month for a sex crime involving two 16-year-old girls.

Abundio Perez-Resendiz, 33, was sentenced four to 20 years in prison by District Judge Joel Tingey on May 11. Perez-Resendiz pleaded guilty to felony sexual battery by lewd acts on a child in exchange for a felony enticing a child through the internet charge in another case being dropped.

The first victim told Idaho Falls Police last year that Perez-Resendiz sexually molested her since she was 10. The victim said a few months before she spoke to officers, the molesting turned into him forcing her to have sex frequently. Police had the victim confront her abuser over the phone, and Perez-Resendiz “admitted to the rape,” according to court documents.

Police arrested Perez-Resendiz, and days later, a second victim came forward. The girl told police Perez-Resendiz would send her messages about sex and asking her to engage in sexual activities and sleep together, according to court documents. Detectives wrote in their reports that Perez-Resendiz never had sex with the second victim.

Tingey also ordered Perez-Resendiz to pay $3,845.50 in fees and fines.

Kaysville, Ut, man charged with 20+ counts of sexual abuse of child over 8-year period

HEBER CITY, Utah — A Kaysville man was arrested Thursday night in Heber City on a warrant after being charged with 26 counts of sexual abuse and assault over the span of several years.

Jesse Paul Murff, 39, was charged earlier this week with 21 felonies and three misdemeanors in relation to the sexual abuse of a child. Two additional felony charges were filed for incidents that occurred after the victim turned 18, according to court documents.

Police say Murff repeatedly sexually abused a girl starting when she was 10 years old. Court documents state that over the years, he forcibly touched and assaulted her, and forced her to perform sexual acts on him. He also reportedly showed her pornography, telling her they were "teaching moments." He is also accused of threatening the girl that he would kill her and her family if she told anyone.

He is being charged by the Davis County Attorney's office, although the alleged abuse occurred in multiple counties.

On Thursday, the Davis County Sheriff's Office contacted Heber City Police for help apprehending Murff, who they believed was in the Heber area. He was "actively evading law enforcement and possibly attempting to leave the state," they said. He was taken into custody after a "high risk traffic stop" involving Heber City Police, undercover Davis County Deputies and Utah Highway Patrol.

Murff is charged with:

6 counts of forcible sodomy, 1st-degree felony

5 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, 1st-degree felony

4 counts of object rape, 1st-degree felony

3 counts of rape, 1st-degree felony

4 counts of forcible sexual abuse, 2nd-degree felony

1 count of dealing harmful materials to a minor, 3rd-degree felony

2 counts of lewdness involving a child, class A misdemeanor

1 count of lewdness, class B misdemeanor

The bail amount recommended by prosecutors is $440,946.

Registered Md child sex offender arrested for

sex abuse charges

PIKESVILLE, Md. — Maryland State Police have arrested a registered child sex offender from Baltimore County, who was wanted on additional sexual abuse of a minor charges.

The suspect, 51-year-old Anthony Lyvonne Howes, of Halethorpe, was arrested without incident on Friday, at around 11 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Hanover Street in Baltimore City.

Officials say Howes had been missing since, at least, November 4, 2019. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team became aware of his disappearance when they tried to arrest him at his home on charges that he sexually assaulted a minor in Centreville.

In addition to the arrest warrant on the most recent charges, Howes also had an arrest warrant issued by the Baltimore County Police Department for providing false information when he registered as a sex offender in Maryland.

Howes was transported to the Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack for processing.

Two people have been arrested in connection with a local case allegedly involving the sexual abuse of a child.

Amy Nicole Lovell, 29, of Remlap and Justin Anthony Jeffries, 26, of Arab each face charges of aggravated sexual abuse, sexual torture, and sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12. Jeffries faces an additional charge of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Another youngish pair of perverts where the woman is older than the man. This happens perhaps more often than not.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday that it would not release details of the case, due to its graphic nature involving a juvenile.

The sheriff’s office said the arrests came following a brief investigation in collaboration with the Cullman County Department of Human Resources, the Cullman Advocacy Center, and the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators believe the suspects committed multiple sex crimes against the alleged victim.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jeffries was apprehended by police in Canby, Oregon, where investigators believe he fled to elude arrest. “CCSO investigators notified the Canby Police Department and Jeffries was taken into custody and is currently being transported to the Cullman County Detention Center where his bond has been revoked,” the sheriff’s office said.

Lovell has posted bond after being taken into custody at the Cullman County Detention Center.

Houston Crime Stoppers says Kevin Leonardo Mendez, 24, is wanted in connection into multiple abuse cases in the area.

HOUSTON — Houston police need the public's help finding a man charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The department caught word of the assaults on April 4.

Investigators said Kevin Leonardo Mendez, 24, is linked to a child assault case that happened in the 7500 block of Peekskill Lane and another in the 8100 block of Coastway Lane. 

During an investigation, the child victims accused Mendez of sexual abuse.

Mendez is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs between 160 - 170 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

Idaho Falls high school teacher arrested after

alleged sexual assault of student

IDAHO FALLS — A local high school teacher was arrested Tuesday after a female student told police she had been sexually abused and harassed by him.

Patrick Todd Smith, 51, teaches at the Technical Careers High School in Bonneville Joint School District 93. He was a Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputy from 2007 to 2011, according to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Bryan Lovell.

Smith has been charged with felony sexual battery on a minor for behavior with the 17-year-old student that allegedly started with flirty and sexual comments and escalated to unwanted kissing and groping in spring 2019.

The victim gave a forensic interview at the Upper Valley Child Advocacy Center as part of an Idaho State Police investigation into the case. During the interview, the victim described a pattern of sexual harassment. She said Smith, an auto shop teacher, was overly comfortable and flirty with his students, and he would reportedly take everything the students said as sexual, according to court documents.

The victim said the behavior was ignored because it was “normal” for Smith.

The victim said the behavior eventually went beyond sexual comments. She said Smith started with innocent hugging, but one day he reportedly grabbed her, pulled her into his lap and said it wasn’t fair she aroused him and “he had to deal with it all day.”

“Each time Smith came back into the shop, he would take it a step further. … Smith kept saying that his life would be easier if she wasn’t so attractive or if she was 18,” the probable cause reads.

The abuse allegedly escalated to the point where Smith kissed the student and groped her underneath her clothes.

The girl left school for the rest of the day after the encounter and Smith reportedly texted her to ask if she was OK. In text messages viewed by police, the victim responded she was not OK with the touching and that it needed to stop. Smith replied that it was fine, and he would stop.

The next day at school, Smith hugged her and apologized.

But the flirty behavior continued, and Smith would hug the victim even more after she turned 18, according to court documents.

The documents do not give Smith’s side of the story. Smith’s attorney, Shane Reichert, was unavailable for comment.

The school district has placed Smith on paid administrative leave. The District 93 school board has also opened its own investigation into Smith. Idaho law prohibits the district disclosing the results of that investigation as it is a personnel matter.

“We are deeply concerned and saddened to learn that a Bonneville School District teacher has been arrested and charged with a crime alleging sexual abuse of a minor,” Bonneville Joint School District 93 spokesman Phil Campbell said in a statement.”A fundamental goal of the district is to ensure the physical and emotional safety of every student entrusted to our care.”

If convicted of felony sexual battery of a minor, Smith could spend up to life in prison.

Smith posted a $10,000 bond after his arrest and was released from jail on Wednesday. A no-contact order has been issued between Smith and the victim.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 2 at the Bonneville County Courthouse.

Somerset, Ky, man sentenced to three years for

child sexual abuse

A local man accused of assaulting a child back in December 2018 has been sentenced to three years in jail.

J.T. Weaver, 44, of Somerset, pleaded guilty in February to first-degree Sexual Abuse, amended down from first-degree Rape (victim under 12).

The Pulaski County Grand Jury returned the indictment last May following the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office investigation into an incident reported to have occurred on Christmas Eve 2018.

In exchange for Weaver's guilty plea, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney David Bridgeman recommended a three-year sentence. Pulaski Circuit Judge Jerry Cox imposed sentence on April 17.

Upon release, Weaver will be required to register as a sex offender. Though his full sentence would be completed on May 18, 2022, online records from the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) indicate that he becomes eligible for parole this July 1.

Wow! From 1st deg rape to 3 years ( or is it one year?) in prison!!! The victim will barely be a teenager, if, in fact, she is a teenager when he is released. Damn good deal for the rapist; not so much for the victim. When will victims get the same rights in court as their rapists?

Weaver remains lodged at the Pulaski County Detention Center.
