Pedophiles and sexual predators can be very hideous creatures, but, more often than not, are charming, affable and trusted by those who may be parents of their intended victims. That's the game they play!

All parents need to be vigilant of predators in their midst, but single moms especially have to be careful. Bringing a boyfriend into a home with young girls is dangerous and reckless. And as this story shows, predators are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to get access to your children.

Please be careful; lost innocence is gone forever.

The other aspect of this story I want to discuss is the evil practice of plea bargaining. 90 days for the rape of a child is a joke, a very bad joke. Within months of raping the 15 year old, the pervert is back on the streets where the girl can encounter him. How traumatic is that likely to be? 

Prosecutors seem to give away the farm for a plea bargain, and that enables the predator and further violates the victim. Not only do they agree to a fraction of the possible sentence, but they also agree to drop most of the charges and agree to a plea on only one or two. 

Plea bargaining should be used very carefully and should result in a relatively minor reduction in charges and sentencing. The current system is not protecting children, it benefits only the perpetrator and the prosecutor's workload. Plea bargaining may be a way of having the victim avoid being cross-examined on the witness stand, but courts must develop methods to make such an experience considerably less traumatic for children.

Birch Bay, Washington Man Heads to Prison Over Child Sex Abuse Claims

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - A 21-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a girl at a neighbor's Birch Bay home has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The Bellingham Herald reports that Ray Anthony Hollis was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to reduced charges of indecent liberties and burglary. He had initially been charged with rape of a child.

Indecent liberties is a heck of a long ways from 2nd degree rape. This plea bargaining is sure good news for pedophiles. Not so good for those whom they will victimize when they get out. Prosecuting attorneys give away far too much.

The victim told authorities Hollis came over to her home uninvited, they watched a movie and then Hollis sexually assaulted her.

Hollis told authorities that he had gone to his neighbor's house to get alcohol and that the girl made up the allegations because she didn't want to get in trouble for drinking with him. He says he only pleaded guilty to avoid a more severe sentence.

Unfortunately, there is no indication of the age of the child. Also, there are no pictures of him. There is a mugshot of a Ray Anthony Hollis, but he is a child sex offender from California. 

Birch Bay is just across the border from me, and I have friends living there.
