Virginia Giuffre Alleges Husband Has Physically Abused Her For Years: 

'I Can No Longer Stay Silent'

Giuffre, a victim of accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was involved in a recent car accident that her brother says 'saved her life'

As controversy swirls about a cryptic Instagram message Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre recently posted about her deteriorating health following a car crash in Australia, she is now coming forward with allegations of abuse against her husband of 22 years, Robert Giuffre.

Virginia, 41, previously spoke out as a victim of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in his prison cell at age 66 in 2019, and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, 63, who is currently serving a prison sentence for child sex trafficking in connection with Epstein. Virginia says she has been hesitant to speak publicly about the alleged abuse involving her husband until now.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Virginia said, "I was able to fight back against Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein who, abused and trafficked me. But I was unable to escape the domestic violence in my marriage until recently. After my husband's latest physical assault, I can no longer stay silent."

She ended the statement by saying, "Again, I thank everyone for their support. I have faith that justice will prevail."

Her statement comes less than a week after Virginia said on Instagram on Sunday, March 30, that she was in the hospital and near death after the car in which she was riding on March 24 was struck by a school bus going more than 49 mph.

“I’ve gone into kidney renal failure," she wrote next to a photo of her lying in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises. "They’ve given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology.”

They probably told her that she could die in as little as 4 days without urology treatment.

A spokesperson for Virginia confirms that Virginia reported a Jan. 9, 2025, assault in Dunsborough, Western Australia, to police, who did not charge Robert for any crime. PEOPLE has been unable to obtain the incident report. Robert did not respond to PEOPLE's multiple calls and texts for comment.

His attorney told PEOPLE in an email, "Unfortunately, as the issues you raise are before the Courts in Australia both he and anyone associated with the case including Ms Giuffe or her agents are prohibited from discussing or utilising the media. Therefore, there is no comment."

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, Virginia's brother, Sky Roberts, and his wife Amanda, both 36, say Virginia — who lives in Australia — is making the allegations because of the severity of her injuries.

"I think the last incident that they had, she almost died," Amanda says about the alleged Jan. 9 beating. "And we had to speak that truth with her on the phone. And I think she had acknowledged that if she had one more instance with him, she wasn't making it out of there."

Sky and Amanda note that they don't know whether Virginia's medical issues were caused by the crash or complications from a recent beating she allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband, or a combination of the two.

"Let's be clear, she never stated in the bus accident the cause of all her other injuries," says Sky. "But I do think that the bus crash in some way, shape, or form saved her life. It could have been a blessing in disguise."

Adding that he doesn't know specifically "what happened internally to her," Sky, an auto claims adjuster, says Virginia's bruising "is consistent [with a car crash]."

"Nobody ever said her liver issues and kidney failure were ever from that. We still don't know if it is, I'm not a medical professional. That's up to her doctor to determine," he says.

Speaking about the damage to Virginia's organs, Sky said, "I think that's from years of alleged abuse. You got to think, she's been allegedly being abused for over 10 years. Anyone's body is going to take a toll over a course of time."

Alleged Troubled Marriage

Virginia had been having marital issues for a while and in August 2023 or so, separated from Robert, the father of her three children, ages 19, 16 and 15, Sky and Amanda say.

During a trip to celebrate one of the children's birthdays in January, Robert allegedly beat Virginia so severely she was left with a cracked sternum and perforated eye, among other injuries, they say. She was transported to the hospital for her injuries, her spokeswoman says.

To the family's shock, they say, Robert quickly filed a family violence restraining order against her, alleging that she had become violent with him, they say.

"He just put his in place first," Sky alleges. "Now she's on the defense."

She was accused of breaching the restraining order by texting Robert on Feb. 2 in Perth, 7 News was the first to report.

Seriously? It must have been a really violent text!

Addressing critics who say Virginia is coming forward with this now because she wants to avoid going to Joondalup Magistrates Court on April 9 to address the alleged restraining order violation, Sky says that is dangerous thinking.

"Is it going to take her to die for people to believe her? Or can you just simply be a human and look at the facts and understand this is somebody that legitimately got into an accident, legitimately had underlying issues."

Controversial Post

After her last Instagram post, Virginia has been accused of exaggerating and even lying about the accident and her health.

On Tuesday, April 1, her family clarified in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that Virginia thought she had posted the message on a private social media page and not on Instagram.

Not only was she likely on pain medication in the hospital when she sent the message, says Sky, but she was feeling "despondent and depressed" over not being able to be with her children—ages 19, 16 and 15—who are "the most important thing in her life."

He clarifies that his sister was told by one doctor that if she did not continue to receive care, she would only have four days to live. He says she remains in the hospital where she is continuing to receive treatment.

"She is marginally better but still in serious condition," her spokeswoman tells PEOPLE.

The first time I saw that photo of Virginia's bruised face, it struck me as resembling a beating - a typical spousal abuse attack. 

She admitted that she didn't want to come out with the story of her husband's alleged abuse, and it reminded me of children who have been sexually abused. They will rarely come out and tell people without being asked directly, but they will say things that contain hints about the abuse and hope that someone is paying enough attention to figure it out. Was this the way Virginia asked for help?

Virginia became a public figure when she accused Epstein, the late billionaire and convicted sex offender, and his ex-girlfriend, Maxwell of trafficking her to rich and powerful men, including Prince Andrew, when she was a teenager.

Prince Andrew has denied the allegations. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of child sex trafficking in 2021.

Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei was in intensive care in Kenya on Tuesday after she was doused with petrol and set on fire allegedly by her partner in the latest horrific case of gender-based violence in the East African country.

Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan athlete living in Kenya, was receiving treatment for burns on 80 percent of her body on Tuesday after she was attacked at her home and set on fire, police said.

The long-distance runner was assaulted after her Kenyan boyfriend Dickson Ndiema Marangach reportedly snuck into her home in Endebess in the western county of Trans-Nzoia at around 2:00 pm on Sunday, while she and her children were at church.

The attack took place just three weeks after the 33-year-old took part in the women's marathon at the Paris Olympics, where she placed 44th.

"Dickson, who had procured petrol, began pouring (it) on Rebecca before he set her ablaze," a police report said Monday, adding that he was also injured by the flames.

It said that neighbours had put out the fire and taken the pair to nearby Kitale County Referral Hospital where they were admitted with "multiple burns".

They were later transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in the Rift Valley city of Eldoret, where Cheptegei was admitted to the intensive care unit on Monday.

Fighting to save her life

"She sustained more than 80 percent burns in the attack," the hospital's acting CEO Owen Menach told reporters.

"The burns were really, really severe, some of them are really deep especially right to the muscles in the back," he said.

"We're doing all we can to save her life."

A member of staff at the hospital, requesting anonymity as they were not authorised to speak to the media, told AFP that Cheptegei's condition looked "serious with facial burns and bandages".

The police report did not mention if Cheptegei's children were hurt in the attack. Local media reported that her father and sister were at the hospital.

The Ugandan athlete and Marangach were a couple who "constantly had family wrangles", the police report said.

Acting hospital CEO Menach said that Marangach had also been admitted for treatment after sustaining burns to 30 percent of his body.

Cheptegei is believed to have bought land and built a house in the Trans-Nzoia area which lies on the border with Uganda, according to local media.

'Totally uncalled-for attack'

Donald Rukare, president of the Uganda Olympic Committee, said the athlete was "viciously attacked" and wished her a full recovery.

"Let's all say NO to violence especially against women. This is totally unacceptable and we condemn this totally uncalled for attack," he posted on X.

The Ugandan Athletics Federation also expressed regret over the incident, saying on X that Cheptegei had "suffered severe injuries".

Latest figures by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics published in January 2023 found that 34 percent of women in the country have experienced physical violence since the age of 15.

It said women who had "been married are much more likely to have experienced violence", noting that 41 percent of such women reported incidents compared to 20 percent of unmarried women.

The assault on Cheptegei comes two years after Kenyan-born athlete Damaris Mutua was found dead in Iten, a world-famous running hub in the Rift Valley in the west of the country.

Her death followed the murder of record-breaking runner Agnes Tirop, 25, who was found stabbed to death at her home in Iten in 2021.

Tirop's estranged husband Emmanuel Ibrahim Rotich went on trial over her murder in 2023. He has denied the charges. His trial is ongoing.

Nightmarish moments were experienced by a couple of Dutch tourists in Crete, when two men from Sudan attempted to rape the 19-year-old woman in front of her boyfriend. He tried to protect her, but was attacked by the assailants.

The terrifying incident, which shocked the couple, happened in the early hours of Friday in the area of ​​Hersonissos.

The tourists had retreated to a rocky shore for some peace when the two Sudanese, who were hiding, attacked them. One attempted to rape the woman while the other watched.

I guess it was his turn! 

Although they had consumed alcohol, the pair managed to fight back, with the 19-year-old’s boyfriend trying to defend her despite the attack. Shouting for help, the assailants fled.

The Qur’an forbids Muslim women to marry “idolaters”: “Do not marry idolatresses until they believe, for indeed, a believing slave woman is better than an idolatress, even though she pleases you. And do not give your daughters in marriage to idolaters until they believe, for indeed, a believing slave is better than an idolater, even though he pleases you. These people invite you to the fire, and Allah invites you to the garden, and to forgiveness by his grace, and explains his signs to mankind so that perhaps they will remember.” (Qur’an 2:221)

This means in practice that Hindu women are expected to convert to Islam if they marry Muslim men. Anjali did not. The assault was the result.

Kerala: Interfaith couple attacked by Islamists after Hindu wife refuses to follow Islamic customs, flees to a nearby temple for safety

In Kerala’s Kasaragod, Abdul Nizamuddin and his wife Anjali were allegedly summoned to the mosque, where they were assaulted. Nizamuddin claimed in his police report that he escaped by seeking refuge in a nearby temple.

Abdul Nizamuddin and Anjali, who operate an IT firm in Manjerwat, were called to the mosque under the guise of addressing a workplace issue with Rafeeq, a relative and fellow employee. However, tensions rose when Anjali entered the mosque without wearing a veil and without converting to Islam, which angered the congregation.

The couple was attacked, with accusations that Nizamuddin had taken a Hindu woman into the mosque with other Hindus. Anjali reported being struck on the head and humiliated. As the situation escalated, the couple fled to a nearby temple for safety.

The attackers also vandalised their car, smashing the windows, and circulated a video of the beating, claiming it was punishment for blasphemy….

UNRWA Workers Sexually Exploiting

Women and Girls in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, or UNRWA, has since October 7 been exposed by Israel and others as having close ties to Hamas. UNRWA employees in Gaza, including teachers and medical personnel, are now known to belong to Hamas. At least nine UNRWA employees took part in the October 7 atrocities, and have been fired. Israel believes that 100 UNRWA employees are members of Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). In addition, Israel says that 10% of the 13,000 UNRWA workers in Gaza have connections — without being members — to Hamas and PIJ. In UNRWA schools, the textbooks — despite UNRWA’s assurances over the past few years that its schoolbooks have been completely cleaned up — continue to glorify terrorism, incite violence, demonize Israel, and spread antisemitism. UN Watch compiled a few telling examples in this March 2023 report:

• UNRWA’s Al-Zaytun Elementary School (Gaza) glorified terrorists and encouraged martyrdom. In March 2022 and September 2021, fifth graders were taught to glorify Dalal Mughrabi, a terrorist who carried out the 1978 Coastal Road Massacre in which 38 Israeli civilians including 13 children were killed. Photos taken of a classroom blackboard show how she is presented as “the fighting leader” and a “hero” who is to be honored by naming children and streets after her.

Likewise, in September 2022, 5th-graders at the school were taught to admire as a “martyr” and “hero” Izz Ad-Din Al-Qassem, the namesake of Hamas’ military wing, who had preached the murder of Jews. On November 20, 2022, photos of a classroom blackboard from Social Studies class in the 5th grade Class 9 of the fifth grade show a map labeled Palestine. The map includes the State of Israel – a UN member state, and marks areas and cities in Israel such as Haifa, Jaffa, Acre, and Beersheba as part of Palestine.

• UNRWA’s Al-Maghazi Middle School for Boys B (Gaza) endorsed violence, demonized Israel, and encouraged martyrdom. In December 2022, an UNRWA-created Arabic reading comprehension exercise for 9th graders celebrated a Palestinian firebombing attack on a Jewish bus as a “barbecue party.”

Another UNRWA-created text, taught to 9th-graders at the school posted in December 2022, demonized Israelis as sadistic predators looking for prey by teaching reading comprehension using graphic descriptions of Israelis brutally murdering Palestinians in entirely fictional stories. A “Zionist officer” deliberately shoots to death a Palestinian fisherman in front of his son in Gaza for being late to shore. The graphic text describes a “fountain of blood bursting from his chest.” In addition, 5th-graders at the school learned that martyrdom and jihad are “the most important meanings of life” through an exercise practicing vocabulary and grammar in Arabic language Learning material posted in September 2022.

• UNRWA’s Tel Al-Hawa Middle School (Gaza) endorsed violence, demonized Israel, and promoted antisemitism. An UNRWA-created social studies lesson posted in September 2022 instilled in 9th-grade students the message that “armed struggle” against Israel is a “divine right.” Another September 2022 UNRWA-created 9th grade social studies text spreads antisemitic propaganda by teaching the libel that Israel infects Palestinians with cancer by dumping toxic waste in the West Bank and Gaza.

• UNRWA’s Asma Middle School for Girls B encouraged schoolgirls to liberate the homeland by sacrificing “their Blood” and pursuing jihad.  UNRWA-created Arabic language material posted in September 2022 for the 6th grade includes an exercise promoting sacrificing one’s life—“the most precious thing” a person has—for the homeland as an obligation and to sacrifice “their blood.”  A  grammar exercise states that “I will commit jihad to liberate the homeland” and “I will not give up a centimeter of my land.” The last sentence further indicates students are taught to reject any territorial compromise with Israel.

On August 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland, at a ceremony observing Swiss National Day, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini was about to give the keynote address when Ayelet Samerano, whose murdered son Yonatan was kidnapped to Gaza by an UNRWA worker on October 7, rose from the audience to confront him. She cried out “UNRWA kidnapped my son. Where is he, Mr. Lazzarini?” Lazzarini said nothing.

Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s Director-General, having received from Israel a list of 100 UNRWA staff who are Hamas or PIJ’s military operatives, has neither suspended them nor launched an independent investigation of those claims. He still has not taken any action to enforce the prohibition on membership in armed groups. Nor has he stated that membership in an armed group is a sufficient cause for not hiring a person by UNRWA or terminating his or her employment.

But UNRWA employees in Gaza are not just collaborators with, or members of, terror groups. They are also sexual predators who take advantage of Gazan girls and women. There’s a Watergate-era adage that the coverup is worse than the crime. The UN is now trying to cover up its knowledge of sexual abuse by humanitarian workers in Gaza.

Last month, I discovered a 72-page UN report released in April  by the PSEA [Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse] Network called the “Risk mitigation assessment report to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.” It included this:

According to the SEARO 2022 Index, Palestine ranked in the 20th position among the context with higher risks of SEA. Yet, the onset of the war has challenged the resilience of the network and a completely different context is unfolding with important emergent risks of sexual exploitation and abuse by aid workers and related personnel….

Food insecurity, loss of livelihoods, and acute aid dependency are highly engendered matters that further expose women and children to SGBV [sexual gender-based violence] and VAC [violence against children], including by Aid Workers.

[H]umanitarian actors must scale up their PSEA and Safeguarding capacity to prevent an epidemic of SEA abuses committed by personnel related to humanitarian operations. This should be also seconded by programmatic actions to protect  the most vulnerable from sexual exploitation and abuse by aid workers but also other actors.

Several times it warned that there was sexual abuse by aid workers in Gaza, and even warned of a potential “epidemic.”…

Since I first discovered UN reports mentioning aid worker sexual abuse in Gaza, including forcing women into prostitution to get food aid,  the only news site to pick up the story has been The Jerusalem Post. 

And now it appears that UNICEF and the PSEA Network are both trying to make it difficult for anyone else to see their April report that describes this problem….

Despite the efforts of UNICEF and the PSEA Network to try to hide their own reports on sexual exploitation of Gazan females by UNRWA employees, Elder of Ziyon has managed to find those reports. What they tell us is that “aid workers” — almost all of whom, in Gaza, are UNRWA employees — have been using threats to withhold humanitarian aid so as to obtain sexual favors from girls and women in Gaza. Isn’t this something the UN General Assembly ought to be discussing? Surely these charges of sexual exploitation of Gazan females by UNRWA workers, admitted to in reports by UNICEF and the PSEA, ought to be the final blow to UNRWA, resulting in its dissolution and its replacement by a new, unsullied humanitarian aid group, with no ties to Hamas or PIJ. But don’t worry. Nothing will happen to UNRWA. It has survived worse scandals, including the membership of so many of its employees in Hamas and PIJ, and the participation of UNRWA workers in the murders of Israelis on October 7. It will survive this. And the sexual exploitation of Gazan girls and women by UNRWA workers, trading humanitarian aid for sex, will continue.
