Dozens of predators who were caught with the worst category of child abuse images have all walked free within the last fortnight.
All of the offenders were found with Category A images, which are images involving penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal, or sadism.
As many as 30 have been allowed to walk free in the last few weeks, an investigation by The Sun has revealed.
One man with 12,000 images received a suspended sentence due to his “good character” and another dodged jail after saying he only viewed images of children in “discernable pain” because it was “something to watch”.
This appears to be a case of judges looking for an excuse to release paedophiles back into the community. Probably so they will have room for law abiding citizens protesting immigration. This is like Canadian Justice which bends over backwards for criminals and child abusers, but is completely indifferent to their victims.
The offence of “making” an indecent image or video can include opening an email attachment, and downloading and storing images. It can also be accessing a website with an indecent image pop-up, being sent a picture through social media or live-streaming images.
Sentencing guidelines for possessing them allow for jail terms ranging from 26 weeks to three years.
Judges can impose a suspended sentence if there is strong personal mitigation, a realistic chance of rehabilitation, or a factor that would mean others would be harmed by them going to prison.
This comes after Huw Edwards was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years after he admitted charges of making 41 indecent images of children. He will be placed on the sex offenders' register for seven years.
Child abuse campaigner Shy Keenan told The Sun that handing paedophiles suspended sentences and community orders made it appear as if victims did not matter.
Among those freed in the past few weeks is Philip Nwaobasi, 53, from Romford, in east London, who was found with 2,118 Category A images.
He was handed ten months, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work. But he was spared prison time after Snaresbrook Crown Court was told he had come to the “realisation that these are real children” on October 8.
Meanwhile, bus driver Charlie Young, 21, from Didcot in Oxfordshire, was allowed to go free after was found with 48 Category A images, one showing the rape of a girl aged between five and seven. He was jailed for six months suspended for two years, with a sexual harm prevention order.
During sentencing at Oxford Crown Court on October 4, Recorder Jaron Crooknorth told him: “Your offending fuels offending that causes misery to children.”
And yet, you didn't lock him up! Go figure!
Another predator allowed to walk free was 56-year-old Dean Rawlings from Cullompton, Devon. He had six Category A images and got a suspended three-month sentence, and sexual harm prevention order.
29-year-old Alex Baker from Walsall avoided jail after being found with 193 images including Category A images. He got a two-year community order, and a sexual harm prevention order.
