Registered sex offender in Baldwinsville guilty again of sexual abuse of child
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A 40-year-old Baldwinsville man pled guilty in federal court on Tuesday, Oct. 15, to seven counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of distribution of child pornography, one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of committing a felony offense involving a minor as a registered sex offender.
Kenneth Koegel Jr. was convicted back in 2004 in Monroe County of sexual abuse for exposing himself to a 6-year-old girl in a public park and inappropriately touching her. After that conviction, he was required to register as a sex offender.
He admitted in his guilty plea on Tuesday that from 2014 until October 2022, he sexually abused a girl from the time she was roughly 2 years old until she was roughly 9 years old.
Koegel Jr. also took photos and videos of him sexually abusing the young girl and distributed them to someone on a messaging app where they exchanged thousands of files of child pornography.
At his sentencing scheduled for March 5, 2025, Koegel Jr. faces 35-50 years in prison, a lifetime term of supervised release after his sentence, and will have to pay restitution to the victim.

St. George woman faces federal charges
accused of making child sex abuse material
ST. GEORGE — A St. George woman is facing federal charges accusing her of producing child sex abuse material with a very young girl.
Investigators say the pornographic images were discovered because of an arrest made in Kansas involving a man who is also facing federal charges in a separate case.
Alexandria Marie Wright, 30, was charged in August in 5th District Court with sodomy on a child, five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sexual exploitation of a minor, first-degree felonies; and dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony.
Then last week, a federal grand jury indicted her on the charges of conspiracy to produce child pornography and production of chid pornography.
The investigation into her case began in March when Martin Brandon Gillen, 26, of Phoenix, was arrested in Kansas. Police say Gillen took a woman, who was later reported as missing, from Illinois to Kansas. The woman said that starting when she was under the age of 18, Gillen made threats against her and her family and would sexually assault her, sometimes at gunpoint, according to charging documents.
In June, Gillen was charged in federal court in that case with kidnapping. He was also charged with transportation of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
After his arrest, police found child sex abuse images on his phone, including pictures he took himself in October of 2021 involving a girl under the age of 6, the charges state.
Through further investigation, police learned that "Martin and Wright planned to meet one another in Washington County for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts with a young minor," according to Wright's state charges. "Gillen explained that during that encounter, both he and Wright did sexually abuse the minor during that encounter. Gillen further explained that he filmed some of this abuse using his mobile device."
Initially, Gillen did not give investigators Wright's name and they were unable to identify her until August, the charges state.
On Thursday, a federal judge ordered Wright to remain in custody pending her trial.
83-year-old Oswego man sentenced to
21 years in prison for child sexual abuse
Weiss: Sentence is a de facto life sentence
An 83-year-old Oswego man who had been found guilty of criminal sexual abuse of a child has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Allen Taft was convicted of three separate counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse following a jury trial on Aug. 12. The jury deliberated for just over an hour before returning guilty verdicts on all charges, according to a news release from the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Kendall County Circuit Judge Jody Gleason handed down the sentence. Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis thought the sentence was appropriate given the nature of the offense.
“While he would have to register as a child sex offender for life, the reality is that this sentence is a de facto life in prison sentence,” Weis said in the news release. “And based upon the horrific acts committed by Taft, that is exactly what he deserves...My hope is that the de facto life sentence will bring some comfort to the victim knowing that he will never be able to harm another child.”
Weiss explained in the release that, due to Taft’s age and that Illinois’ truth in sentencing requires him to serve most of his sentence, Taft will be more than 100 years old before being eligble for mandatory supervised release.
Charges against Taft were filed after an investigation began in April 2022. The victim told law enforcement investigators that Taft had committed multiple acts over a period of several years, beginning when the victim was a child, according to the release.
A detective from the Oswego Police Department interviewed Taft, where he confirmed some of the acts he committed against the victim many years ago, according to the release.
