Texas Firefighter Arrested, Accused of
Child Sex Abuse

A McKinney firefighter accused of child sex abuse was arrested Sunday, police records show.

Chad Watson, 38, was charged with continuous sex abuse of a child under 14-years-old, according to Collin County Jail records.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC 5 said Watson was accused of groping and touching the genitalia of a minor on three different occasions.

Fire Chief Danny Kistner said that Watson, who had previously been suspended, was terminated Tuesday.

"He will be going through his legal due process in the courts. As a Fire Department, safety and maintaining the public trust is of utmost importance and we take these matters very seriously," Kistner said.

The city of McKinney said Monday they were aware of the charges and are working with investigators on the case.

Watson previously worked for the North Richland Hills Fire Department and Mexia Fire Department, records show.

Accused child sex abuser mistakenly released from Montana jail, re-arrested
Traci Rosenbaum, Great Falls Tribune

A man charged with several sex crimes against children who was mistakenly released from the Cascade County Detention Center on Jan. 29 was apprehended Sunday on the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation.

Daniel Sutherland, 31, was first charged with four counts in January 2018 for the alleged sexual assaults of four children – two 4-year-olds, an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old.

An amended set of charges was filed in April 2018 that added two more counts: sexual intercourse without consent for the alleged rape of the 11-year-old he was already accused of abusing and sexual assault for a 12-year-old who came forward and claimed Sutherland touched her inappropriately.

Two more charges of endangering the welfare of children were added the following May when two children who were in Sutherland’s care allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine exposure.

On Jan. 23 of this year, the Cascade County Attorney’s Office filed a motion to dismiss two of the sexual abuse charges and the two charges of child endangerment. According to the motion, “it was determined that these charges were unlikely to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.”

It was that order that prompted Sutherland’s accidental release.

“It was just a human error,” said Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter. “There was a court order dismissing some of the charges, and there was an assumption made that all of the charges were dismissed, and they were not.”

Once the error was discovered, Slaughter assigned detectives to the case. With the help of the U.S. Marshals Service, Sutherland was arrested on the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation Jan. 17.

According to Slaughter, this is only the second time in the 20 years the detention center has been open that an inmate has been released by mistake. The other incident occurred in 2004.

“Obviously, I took it extremely seriously,” Slaughter said. “It was unfortunate, but…we put every resource we could to get him apprehended quickly.” Slaughter is also reviewing the jail’s release procedures to ensure this doesn’t happen again in the future.

Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki says because Sutherland was released and did not escape, he will likely not face additional charges for his nearly three-week excursion. As he did not miss any court dates, Sutherland cannot be charged with bail jumping for leaving Great Falls.

Sutherland still faces three counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual intercourse without consent. His trial is currently set for March 4.

Virginia youth pastor, son of head pastor,
to plead guilty in child sex abuse case
By: Lindsay Watts, FOX 5 DC

MANASSAS, Va. - A youth pastor for a Northern Virginia megachurch will plead guilty in his child sex abuse case, according to officials.

Special Prosecutor Kevin Gross told FOX 5 that 27-year-old Jordan Baird, who worked at the Life Church in Manassas as a youth pastor, will plead guilty in court on Monday.

Baird had been charged with two counts of indecent liberty with a child by a custodian, both felonies that carry a maximum of five years in prison.

Baird was convicted last year of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl from the church in 2014.

Baird was later re-arrested, accused of abusing a second teen in that same timeframe. That trial was scheduled to begin on Monday. The young woman's family is also suing Life Church for $21 million.

The church did not go to the police when initial accusations against Baird came to light.

A church spokeswoman says it’s because they were unaware of any physical contact. But others believe it was an effort to protect Baird, who’s the son of the head pastor.

Baird’s case has inspired legislation that would require religious leaders to report suspected child abuse in Virginia.

2 Brothers In Custody In Oklahoma Daycare Center
Child Sexual Abuse Investigation
By: NewsOn6.com

TULSA, Oklahoma - Two brothers who are said to be suspects in a Tulsa Police investigation into a local daycare are in custody. Child Crisis detectives said the investigation began when a girl reported being touched inappropriately at the Tiny Tots Daycare near 71st and Lewis. The allegation involved a son of the daycare owners.

Left to Right: Malcom Burts and Charles Burts Jr., Tulsa County Jail.

21-year-old Charles Burts Jr. and 19-year-old Malcolm Burts are accused of sexually abusing multiple children who attended daycare at Tiny Tots Learning Spot, according to and affidavit.

Both brothers were employed at the business.

I have no idea whether these guys did what they are accused of, but I know this - people should never leave their children in daycares where men or boys are employed.

The investigation began in December 2018 after a woman called police to say an 11-year-old girl told her an adult had put his hand down her pants at the daycare.

The woman told News On 6 she also contacted the owner of Tiny Tots after learning the suspect was the owner's son.

"She kept saying, 'I don't see how this is possible; she's never been alone with them. I don't see how it's possible,'" the woman said.

She says the girl was interviewed by a forensic specialist and revealed details.

"She said he would do it in a dark room and when he was finished, he would let her play on his phone and told her the only way she could play on his phone was if she promised not to tell anyone it happened," the relative said.

A similar allegation was made against at the same daycare provider two years earlier when they were at a different location. That also involved a son, but at that time child welfare found the allegation to be unsubstantiated and closed the case without taking any action.

Nice work, child welfare! Now you are complicit in the abuse of another child.

Northwest Investigators seeking information
in child sex abuse case

Police in Washington and Oregon are seeking information in a child sex abuse case involving an Oregon man and a 13-year-old girl from King County.

Hillsboro, Ore., man Christopher Thomas Knox, 37, was arrested late Friday after he requested help from the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office when his rental car became stuck in the snow.

When deputies arrived, Knox was with a 13-year-old girl whom he first introduced as his daughter, according to officers, but deputies at the scene determined the two were not related and that she had left her home without her parents’ permission or knowledge.

Investigators said they also determined that Knox had sexually abused the girl near her home in King County before bringing her to Oregon.

The girl was transported to a local hospital where she was examined and later taken back to her parents.

Knox was booked into the Clatsop County Jail on Saturday for investigation of attempted rape and custodial interference.

Investigators said they believe Knox may have sexually abused the girl on the evening of Friday, Feb. 15, while stopped at a state park or rest area somewhere between Tacoma and Astoria, Ore. They are seeking information in the case and are looking for anyone who may have seen Knox, his vehicle, the girl or both of them that day or evening.

Police say the suspected abuse would have occurred after 3 p.m.   Knox was driving a black 2018 Dodge Journey with California license plates.

Police said it is also believed Knox and the teen may have been seen outside the Dodge while wrapped in a blanket for warmth, and it may have been foggy at the time and location.

Anyone who saw the vehicle, suspect or the girl is asked to contact Detective Ryan Humphrey at the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, 503-338-3633 or by email at rhumphrey@co.clatsop.or.us.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the Clatsop County, Ore., Sheriff's Office, Hillsboro Ore., Police Department, Pacific, Wash., Police Department, and King County, Wash. Coalition of Small Police Agencies Major Crimes Task Force.

Judge orders Kansas Christian school founder to
stand trial in child sex abuse case
BY MAKENZIE KOCH Fox4KC

OLATHE, Kan. — The founder of a local Christian school accused of child sexual abuse will go to trial.

Dennis Creason, founder of Oaklawn Christian School, is charged with nine counts of taking indecent liberties with children (6th story on link). All of the alleged incidents happened inside the Shawnee school, court documents say.

Over the three days of testimony during a preliminary hearing earlier this month, alleged victims said that Creason exposed himself, made them touch him and made them lie on top of him.

After the hearing, the judge said he needed to review court transcripts (2nd story on link) for one of the charges and delayed his decision on whether Creason would go to trial. But on Tuesday, the Johnson County judge said there was enough evidence for the case to be sent to trial on all nine charges.

Creason pleaded not guilty to all nine charges. His jury trial is scheduled for May 13-17.

His bond was lowered during his preliminary hearing, and shortly after he posted bond and was released from jail. He has to wear a GPS ankle monitor and is confined to house arrest unless he is meeting with his attorney.

The sheriff’s office is recommending Estrada face criminal charges that include molestation of a person under 18, contacting a minor to commit sexual offenses and sexual battery.
