Meta employee fired after ‘child sex sting’ video goes viral

The 35-year-old appeared to admit sending sexually explicit messages

to someone he believed was a 13-year-old boy

Meta’s manager of community development, Jeren Miles, has been dismissed from his post, a spokesperson for the social media giant told the Daily Caller on Thursday, after video of Miles being interrogated by members of ‘Predator Catchers Indianapolis’ went viral.

Miles, who is 35 years old, is seen on video appearing to admit to having sent multiple sexually explicit messages to an individual he believed was a 13-year-old boy, even making plans to meet the teen at a hotel. “The seriousness of these allegations cannot be overstated,” the spokesperson said.

While Miles initially told the ‘predator catchers’ he was just “flirting” and “talking” to ‘Cory’, the nonexistent boy, insisting he had no “intention of meeting up with him,” he later admits that he “gave information” and “a location” for the meet – the Le Meridien Columbus hotel in Ohio, where the architects of the sting interviewed him.

Clips from the full two-hour video of Miles being interrogated by the amateur predator catchers quickly went viral on social media. The former Meta exec has since deleted his profile pages on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

While he repeatedly tells his interviewers he has never felt attracted to young boys and says this is the “one time I’ve done this,” they accuse him of blatantly grooming the imaginary 13-year-old as they read Miles’ messages back to him in the hotel room.

“I won’t have any restraint around you if I’m horny,” one of the messages Miles admits to sending reads. When the predator catchers confront him with his own words, he insists it was just flirting.

‘Predator catcher’ Eric Schmutte, who filmed the encounter, reportedly told journalist Andy Ngo that he was sending all chat logs and other evidence related to the incident to authorities in both Columbus and Palm Springs, California – Miles’ home city.

It seems like he travelled an awfully long way for someone he never intended to meet!

Is this the kind of person who is responsible for Google's community standards?

Head of largest public university in US steps down

after harassment scandal

The chancellor of California State endorsed a colleague for an award

despite multiple complaints against him

The chancellor of the California State University (CSU), the largest public higher education system in the US, resigned on Thursday following allegations that he had repeatedly refused to discipline a colleague accused of sexual harassment.

Joseph Castro described the decision to step down as “the most difficult of my professional life.”

“While I disagree with many aspects of recent media reports and the ensuing commentary, it has become clear to me that resigning at this time is necessary so that the CSU can maintain its focus squarely on its educational mission and the impactful work yet to be done,” Castro said in a statement.

The university promised to do more to fight sex-based discrimination and ensure the accountability of its staff.

Castro’s resignation came two weeks after an investigation by USA Today revealed that for years, he mishandled sexual harassment complaints when he was president of CSU Fresno. According to the outlet, at least a dozen complaints were filed against Frank Lamas, the vice president of student affairs, but Castro refused to discipline him, wrote “glowing performance evaluations,” and endorsed him for a lifetime achievement award, which Lamas won.

The complaints said Lamas stared at women’s breasts, touched women inappropriately, and made sexist remarks, among other things.

It was reported that in 2020, Castro authorized a $260,000 payment to Lamas, who was allowed to retire with a clean record. On top of that, Castro reportedly wrote a recommendation letter for him.

Lamas has denied any wrongdoing. Castro said earlier this month that while he eventually barred Lamas from working at CSU, “certain aspects of the process should have been handled better.”

Last month, the University of Michigan announced that it will pay $490 million to more than 1,000 victims of sexual assault committed by sports physician Dr. Robert Anderson, who worked at the university between 1966 and 2003. In 2020, the university revealed that it was investigating multiple allegations of abuse against Anderson, who died in 2008. The lawsuits accuse the university of failing to remove him despite multiple complaints.

School officials arrested for ‘concealing’ sexual assault

Court records suggest they declined to report the alleged abuse involving a baseball bat

Five employees at a private school in Texas have been arrested on felony charges after being accused of failing to report an alleged sexual assault of a student to police, a court affidavit shows. One student was also reportedly taken into custody.

Three administrators and two coaches at Midland Christian School – including superintendent Jared Lee and athletic director Gregory McClendon – were arrested this week for “failure to report with intent to conceal neglect or abuse,” a felony, according to court records obtained by local media. All were reportedly released on bond on Wednesday.

In addition to Lee and McClendon, baseball coach Barry Russell, secondary principal Dana Ellis and assistant secondary principal Matthew Counts were also charged, while city officials told local reporters that a student was arrested for taking part in the purported assault.

Police were called to the school to investigate a possible sexual assault case involving a child in late January. Detectives were told the incident occurred about one week prior during baseball practice at Midland’s MH Christensen Stadium, where the victim said he was abused as part of “freshman initiation day.” He added that he was pushed to the ground in a locker room by fellow students, who “started hitting him” and later “assaulted [him] with a baseball bat,” according to the records.

The affidavit notes that secondary principal Ellis was informed of the assault on January 20 and alerted Lee, the school’s superintendent, the next day. However, instead of bringing the matter to police, Lee allegedly launched an internal investigation, apparently taking no further action. Police allege that emails between school officials also show they were aware of the incident but failed to report it.

The school’s board of trustees responded to the allegations in a statement on Wednesday, confirming the five employees had been arrested and that “school officials have, and will continue to, cooperate with law enforcement and their investigation.”

“The five administrators were notified of an alleged hazing incident involving some of our student-athletes that resulted in school disciplinary action,” wrote the board’s president, Jason Stockstill, adding “The physical, spiritual, and emotional safety of our students is the most important responsibility we bear as educators and one we take seriously.”

On “advice from legal counsel,” however, the president noted that the school would offer no further comment on the incident.

Do you teach your students to get advice from legal counsel before surrendering their lives to Jesus Christ? Just wondering.
