Georgia father convicted of murder, sex crimes after 10-year-old girl dies in house fire

LOGANVILLE, Ga. —

A Georgia man has been convicted of murder and multiple child sex abuse charges in a case that revealed years of severe abuse leading to the death of his 10-year-old daughter, who was locked in a bathroom during a house fire.

A Gwinnett County jury found William Linn McCue, 51, guilty of felony murder, two counts of rape, three counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of incest. The charges stemmed from the girl’s death and the abuse of her and her siblings over several years.

McCue was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, followed by a fourth life sentence and an additional 120 years in prison.

“The treatment of these children was horrible,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said in a statement. “This child’s death was unconscionable and preventable, and she and her siblings deserved better than they received from their parents.”

Fire led to girl’s death

Authorities said emergency crews were called to the family’s Loganville home on April 17, 2022, because of a fire. McCue’s wife, Carina McCue, rescued the couple’s two younger sons, then ages 12 and 8, but could not reach their 10-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said the girl had been sleeping in a locked bathroom with no window. A piece of plywood placed over the bathtub served as her bed. She died of smoke inhalation.

Jurors also learned that the couple’s oldest son, who was 15 at the time, started the fire in an attempt to escape the abuse he and his siblings had been enduring.

Evidence detailed years of abuse

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that the children were beaten, forced to wear shock collars and made to stand naked on cinder blocks for hours or even days. Testimony showed they were not allowed to use toilets and instead had to use buckets that were emptied once a week.

The children also were never enrolled in school or homeschooled, according to prosecutors. After they were removed from the home, authorities said, they began to improve, though they remained far behind developmentally and educationally.

Sex abuse allegations surface

Carina McCue testified that her husband admitted raping their oldest daughter, who was 17 at the time of the fire. Prosecutors said the teen also disclosed that he had sexually abused her and her younger sister for years.

Before the trial, Carina McCue pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault and false imprisonment. She agreed to testify against her husband and was sentenced to 90 years in prison.

Jury reached verdict quickly

Although William McCue was not at the home when the fire broke out, jurors found him criminally responsible for his daughter’s death. The jury deliberated for just under four hours before returning guilty verdicts on all charges.

MAGNA, Utah (ABC4)A 69-year-old man was arrested in Magna on Wednesday after allegedly attempting to meet a minor. The arrest followed a tip from Predator Poachers, a private online group that targets suspected child predators.

Michael Oren Riser, 69, was arrested in Salt Lake County on one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.

On June 10, police received a report from Alex Rosen, founder of the Houston-based organization Predator Poachers, explaining that he had been posing as a 13-year-old child and messaging with Riser. Officers arrived on scene in the area of Wickiup Lane and Autosome Lane in Magna.

Rosen told police that Riser was a non-compliant sex offender who had met up to engage in sexual relations with a minor. Rosen also told police that there was an active warrant out for Riser’s arrest for failing to register as a sex offender.

Rosen also told officers that Riser was in possession of child sex abuse material in the shed of his home. He then provided police with livestream footage in which Riser claims that he has the material on his phone that no longer has service in his shed.

Police obtained the phone from the shed and Riser admitted to police that there was child sexual abuse material on it.

Among the files was a video of a girl, aged 8 to 10 years old, performing sexual acts.

There were three active warrants for Riser’s arrest, according to court documents. He is also a multi-state offender.

Riser was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the charges listed. No further information is available at this time.

Arizona teacher accused of sexually abusing boy

An Arizona teacher has been arrested in connection with allegations of child sexual abuse several years ago, authorities announced Friday.

Chester Cox was arrested on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of molestation of a child, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said there appears to be no connection between Cox’s job as a teacher at Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary School in Cottonwood and the reports of sexual abuse. The incidents allegedly happened at a private residence, not on school grounds, and the victim was not enrolled at the school.

The 31-year-old has worked at the elementary school for seven years and has lived in Cottonwood for about nine years after moving from Missouri, according to YCSO.

Investigators also said Cox serves as a youth coach in the community but did not meet the victim through his school employment.

Although the victim is now 18, the reported molestation took place when he was around 11 to 12 years old, according to YCSO. Their investigation began after his mother told a church deputy about the allegations.

Days later, detectives identified Cox and(sic) their suspect.

Anyone with information about this case or other possible victims is asked to contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office at 928-771-3260. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Silent Witness.

A tip from the FBI led to the arrest of a Jamestown man accused of sexually abusing a child in Licking County and producing child sexual abuse material, authorities said.

On Friday, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office said it received information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding an individual suspected of sexually abusing a child within Licking County and producing Child Sexual Abuse Material.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office immediately began a collaborative investigation with the FBI, authorities said. Investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Kevin Daniel Kauff of Jamestown, Ohio.

As the investigation continued throughout the day, detectives identified the child victim and located the residence where the abuse was allegedly occurring, according to the sheriff’s office. Based on evidence obtained, an arrest warrant was issued for Kauff on one count of rape.

Kauff was located and arrested in Greene County by FBI agents and local authorities, then taken to Licking County, where he is being held pending further court proceedings, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation remains in its early stages and is ongoing, authorities said, adding that additional charges may be forthcoming as investigators continue to review evidence. Further information will be released as it becomes available and as permitted by law.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office thanked the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their assistance and cooperation. Authorities said the collaborative effort led to the swift apprehension of the suspect and ensured the safety and protection of the child victim.
