Islamic leader charged with child-sex crimes
involving 4 minors, Texas sheriff says
BY TYLER J. CARTER
Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Sexual violence is a social and public health problem in the U.S. The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey says nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men experienced sexual violence victimization other than rape at some point in their lives. BY CDC

An Islamic religious leader was arrested on Friday in Fort Bend, Texas, after he was accused of child-sex crimes, deputies said in a news release.

Mohamed Omar Ali, 59, a native of Somali, has been charged with three counts of indecency with a child and one count of sexual assault of a child, the release noted.

Fort Bend County officials opened an investigation into Ali after “allegations of Ali reportedly abusing children began in September 2019,” ABC-13 reported.

Deputies say the four victims were minors at the time of the assault, which began in 2013. Because Ali’s status as an “Imam in the Islamic community (who) teaches throughout Texas and the country,” deputies say they think more victims exist.

“This is sickening and an abuse of power,” Sheriff Troy Nehls in the release. “If your children have had contact with this man, please talk to them. Victims’ identities will be protected.”

Ali is being held in the Fort Bend County jail on $125,000 bonds, while “immigration has also placed a hold on Ali,” authorities said.

OK couple charged in alleged sexual abuse of two children
Muskogee Phoenix staff

A Muskogee man and woman face charges related to child sexual abuse after the man allegedly touched a child on her breasts and vagina, according to court documents.

Santos Ortiz, 53, was charged Friday with sexual abuse of a child under 12, while Renee Juana Buskirk, 28, was charged with enabling child sexual abuse.

The charges follow a June 6 incident in which the child told a Department of Human Services interviewer that Ortiz sexually assaulted her while they and Buskirk were living in Texas between September and December 2018, according to an affidavit filed with the case. A medical exam showed results consistent with abuse, the affidavit states.

Buskirk moved the family to Muskogee after being informed of allegations against Ortiz, according to the affidavit. A later exam completed on another child also shows signs of sexual abuse, the affidavit states.

Both Ortiz and Buskirk are in custody at the Muskogee County/City Detention City on $25,000 bond each. Their next court appearance will be Jan. 17.

Decades later, NY's Riverside Church basketball sexual abuse survivor tries to find peace

Stefan Bondy NEW YORK DAILY NEWS |

The smell of Gristedes supermarket still unsettles Robert Holmes.

A whiff brings him back nearly 40 years, when, as an adolescent, he recalls being escorted into the home of his AAU basketball coach and sexually molested. For Holmes, 52, the Gristedes smell is associated with the grapes.

“He knew I had a fondness for fruits,” Holmes said in an interview with the Daily News. “We would stop at a Gristedes on the way to his house and buy all these f---ing grapes. I’m a kid, I love grapes. That was part of the prepping stage.”

The grapes were devoured as the two — a boy around 13 and a coach in his late 50s — listened to St. John’s basketball games on the radio. The Red Storm, known then by their racially insensitive nickname, were a big item in the early 80s with Chris Mullin and Walter Berry as the superstar duo. Both played youth basketball under Ernest Lorch, the legendary coach of the Riverside Hawks who also was an alleged sexual predator.

After the St. John’s game, Lorch, according to Holmes, urged his victim to take a shower by claiming all his athletes must be clean. Lorch dried Holmes with a towel, and ushered the boy into a spare room to fit a jock strap.

Sexual acts followed, according to Holmes. Then a spanking with a wooden paddle.

“When I go to Gristedes, I’m back with Lorch,” Holmes said.

Accusations against Lorch had previously been documented, though not in such detail, as part of lawsuits and articles. But there’s reason for renewed focus. In February of this year, Gov. Cuomo — while inside the Daily News office — signed into New York law the Child Victims Act. It extended the statute of limitations so sexual abuse victims in this state — including Holmes — have more time to seek criminal charges or sue their tormentors.

In 2003, Holmes sued Lorch and avoided New York’s stringent limitations because he was also allegedly paid hush money by his former coach. That stopped the clock on the statute of limitations, according to his attorney, Michael Dowd. Holmes was awarded $325,000 in a settlement. However, Riverside Church — the powerful institution based in Morningside Heights — had to be removed from the original suit.

Decatur, Ill, man indicted on federal charges of child porn, sexual exploitation
Tony Reid
Herald & Review

DECATUR — A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted a Decatur man on charges of child pornography and the sexual exploitation and enticement of a minor.

A news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois said Daniel A. Betty, 27, had been arrested and charged in a criminal complaint first filed Dec. 16. U.S. Magistrate Judge Eric Long had ordered him to be held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. Betty has not yet entered a plea on the charges and an arraignment date has not been set.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney, Sharon Paul, said an affidavit filed in support of the charges said Betty had met a “minor female” from Champaign on the social dating app “Spotafriend,” aimed at teens aged from 13 to 19.

“According to the affidavit, Betty allegedly portrayed himself as a 17-year-old male from Decatur,” said Paul. “Using the app, Betty allegedly began communication with the minor female and, in October 2019, Betty drove from Decatur to Champaign and met the minor. Prior to the meeting, Betty had told the minor he was 19 years old.”

Paul said the case against Betty was brought as part of a Department of Justice initiative called Project Safe Childhood, which coordinates the efforts of various law enforcement agencies to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Lehigh Acres, Fla, man sexually abused children,
trafficked girls

A Lehigh Acres man has been arrested on Monday for child sexual abuse and trafficking underage girls, authorities said.

The suspect, Jesus Francisco Santana Perez, 52, faces charges of two counts of Lewd Battery per Florida Statute 800.04 (4a1) and two counts of 787.06 (3a1) for Human Trafficking.

One of the victims said Perez got her high before taking off her clothes. The young girl tried pushing him away before he eventually had sex with her. Shortly after, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies learned about another young girl. The suspect sexually abused her for the past year. She was forced to have sex with 10 adult men.

Further investigation into Perez by the LCSO discovered additional victims. These underaged girls the suspect was trafficking were provided with drugs, the use of his car and cash.

Dawn Shockley, who is a neighbor of the suspect, said he ruined the lives of the victims.

“I’m definitely praying for the victims,” Shockley said. “I’m still in disbelief because there was no indication.”

There are several warning signs of abuse that can alert you to a child being trafficked. These can include distrusting or sounding like they have rehearsed answers; victims may also appear withdrawn or depressed; and, they can also show signs of physical injuries or exhaustion.

LCSO Sheriff Carmine Marceno said there is a zero-tolerance policy for any abuse.

“Human trafficking is one of the most despicable offenses that we investigate,” Sheriff Marceno said.  “I’m proud of my team for acting quickly, investigating thoroughly, and removing this monster from the streets of Lee County.”

Me too. Good work.

Sherwood, Ore, piano teacher acquitted of
child sex abuse charges

Griffin was declared not guilty by Washington County Circuit Judge Oscar Garcia on Dec. 19
Author: KGW Staff

SHERWOOD, Ore. — A Sherwood piano teacher charged with sexually abusing an 8-year-old (6th story on link) girl was acquitted of all charges last month and released from custody.

Christopher M. Griffin, 29, who taught at Let's Make Music and Dance, a music academy in Sherwood, was arrested March 9 on suspicion of sexually abusing an 8-year-old female student. He was released after posting bail and then re-arrested on March 12 after he sent an email to the victim's mother, which violated the conditions of his release on bail.

Griffin, the son of Sherwood City Councilor Russell Griffin, maintained his innocence throughout as did the music school, which is operated by his mother, DeLyn Griffin. He had pleaded not guilty to 25 total counts of first-degree sodomy, unlawful sexual penetration and sexual abuse.

According to court records, the girl said the abuse began in July 2018 and lasted until February 2019, when she told police she was being abused by Griffin.

According to the Sherwood Gazette, Griffin's defense team argued successfully to remove two judges, Charles D. Bailey and Andrew R. Erwin, from hearing the case, because they "would not be fair and impartial."

A bench trial began on Dec. 10 and Griffin was declared not guilty by Washington County Circuit Judge Oscar Garcia on Dec. 19.

There must be a whole lot more to this story. I mean - 25 counts of first degree sodomy? Hopefully, it will appear before too long.

Six Ugly Stories to Start 2020 on Today's USA Pervs and Pedos List

Idaho police continue search for two missing children from couple with several suspicious deaths
By Clyde Hughes

Rexburg, Idaho Police continued their search Tuesday for missing children  Joshua Vallow, 7, & Tylee Ryan, 17.

(UPI) -- Idaho authorities said they fear for the lives of a sister and brother who have been missing since September, and the mother and her new husband have refused to cooperate with the investigation.

The disappearance of Tylee Ryan, 17 and Joshua Vallow, 7, is being investigated by the Rexburg police with assistance from the FBI. They were last seen in Rexburg on Sept. 23. Their mother, Lori Vallow, and her current husband, Chad Daybell, have not helped in the search, police said.

"We have taken every step available to us, including executing multiple search warrants, interviewing multiple sources and running down every lead we have found," Rexburg police said in a statement while asking help from the public.

Tylee,                             Joshua,                             Lori Vallow,                   Chad Daybell

Suspicious deaths

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Vallow's last two husbands have died since 2018 and Daybell is under investigation in the recent death of his last wife, Tammy Daybell. Authorities initially believed she died in October from natural causes, but now are re-examining the case as suspicious.

"We strongly believe that Joshua and Tylee's lives are in danger," Rexburg police said. "We are aware that in the weeks after Tammy Daybell's death, Lori Vallow-Daybell and Chad Daybell told witnesses that Lori's daughter had died a year before the death of her father, which is untrue. Around that same time, Chad told another witness that Lori had no minor children."

Police said the couple has not been charged in the case, and that investigators' first priority is to find the missing children.

"We know that the children are not with Lori and Chad Daybell, and we also have information indicating that Lori either knows the location of the children or what has happened to them," police said. "Despite having this knowledge, she has refused to work with law enforcement to help us resolve this matter.

"We publicly call on Lori Vallow-Daybell and Chad Daybell to do the right thing and come forward with the information they have about the location and welfare of Joshua and Tylee."

Child Victims Act lawsuit: Baptist Church youth group leader abused girl in 1970s
Anthony Borrelli, Ithaca Journal

A Tompkins County woman's lawsuit accuses a former Ithaca-area church youth group leader of sexually abusing her over the span of about three years when she was a teenager in the 1970s.

The lawsuit against Tabernacle Baptist Church and former youth group leader David W. Smith was filed Dec. 20 in Tompkins County Supreme Court under New York's Child Victims Act.

Court documents say the abuse allegedly began when the woman was 13 years old in 1975 — Smith was about 31 years old at the time — while the victim was involved in her church's Word of Life Group. Smith was a teen leader of the group at the time.

Although the woman's name was mentioned in the lawsuit, The Ithaca Journal does not identify victims of alleged sexual abuse.

The lawsuit says Smith and his wife took care of the girl whenever her parents were out of town, and she also spent Sunday afternoons between morning church service and evening youth group meetings either with Smith or in his home.

When youth group went late in the evening, she spent the night at Smith's home, according to the lawsuit. It was during those stays, the lawsuit claims, that Smith allegedly entered her room and forced her to perform sexual acts.

The Tompkins County Court House, at 320 N. Tioga St., Ithaca, houses the Tompkins County Clerk's Office

Smith is also accused of forcing the girl to engage in sexual acts in the basement of the residence as well, and touching her inappropriately on church grounds, according to her lawsuit.

Leaders at the church were notified at the time, the lawsuit claims, but they took no action against Smith regarding alleged sexual assaults.

Lawyers for the defendants are expected to file their own documents in response to the lawsuit, which seeks an unspecified amount of compensation to be decided through future court action.

The Child Victims Act (CVA) created a one-year window for filing old civil claims for child sexual abuse. It also extended the statute of limitations for future acts of child sexual abuse so that victims have until age 55 to bring a lawsuit.

A statute for criminal prosecution changed as well under the CVA, adding five years to the window of time within which charges can be brought.

Plano, TX, doctor charged with child sex abuse met teens on Grindr, recorded encounters
By Tom Steele
Dallas Morning News

A Plano doctor who was arrested in October on two counts of sexual assault of a child is accused of using a dating app to meet teenage boys in the early 2010s, one of whom he reportedly plied with drugs and recorded during sex.

Timothy Morris Collins, 53, of Arlington was booked into the Tarrant County jail Oct. 30. In addition to the sex assault charges, he faces one count of possession of 1 to 4 grams of a controlled substance.

An attorney for Collins did not respond to requests for comment.

In arrest-warrant affidavits obtained by The Dallas Morning News, an Arlington detective writes that the two accusers — both now in their early 20s — reported the allegations of sexual abuse in September.

The first accuser said he was about 15 when he met Collins through the dating app Grindr. Collins gave the teenager GHB — also known as the date-rape drug — and methamphetamine before sexually assaulting him at Collins’ home, the affidavit says.

The teenager said he returned to Collins’ home at least 50 times over the next three years and continued to have sexual encounters with him in exchange for meth. He said Collins recorded up to a dozen of their encounters when he was underage and stored the videos in a safe in his bedroom.

The second accuser told authorities he was also about 15 when he met Collins through Grindr. He said he met Collins twice for sex — once at an Arlington motel and once at Collins’ home, where he saw cameras in the bedroom.

Police found body-camera video from July, when officers were called to a domestic disturbance at Collins’ home on Elmridge Drive. Footage from the bedroom showed cameras and a large safe as the accusers had described, police wrote in the affidavit.

Authorities reported finding methamphetamine when they arrested Collins. He posted $52,500 shortly after his arrest, court records show.

In October, the Texas Medical Board suspended Collins’ license “after determining his continuation in the practice of medicine poses a continuing threat to public welfare,” the board said in a written statement.

La Crosse, Wis, man charged with attempted
child sexual assault
Jourdan Vian
La Crosse Tribune

A 31-year-old La Crosse man is accused of arranging to meet an undercover cop posing as a 14-year-old girl for sex earlier this month.

Cody J. Williams, who denies any wrongdoing, was charged Friday with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child.

According to the criminal complaint, the La Crosse Area Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip Dec. 9 from a Grand Chute, Wis., law enforcement agency that Williams was involved in an online conversation with someone he believed was 14 in that area.

A La Crosse police officer sent Williams a message on the social messaging app Kik about the weather Dec. 10 using an undercover persona of a 14-year-old girl, according to the complaint. During the course of the next two days, Williams sent the undercover officer a picture of his face and genitals and arranged to have sexual intercourse.

The police asked Williams to meet the supposed teen Dec.12 at the La Crosse Public Library and, when he arrived, he was taken into custody.

Not too bright

According to the criminal complaint, Williams told police he never talks to anyone privately on Kik and only sends photos of himself to his wife, saying “I didn’t do anything bad.”

Williams denied any knowledge of the messages and said his phone and email had been hacked six months prior. Williams asked the officer why it seemed like they didn’t believe him and the officer responded, “Because I don’t,” according to the report.

Williams handed over his phone to police and gave them his passcode and permission to make a forensic copy. When police opened the phone, the Kik app was still open and the chat between Williams and the undercover officer was still on his phone, according to the complaint.
