Child Abuse > Horrendous child abuse in the Netherlands

Prosecutors recommend 11 years prison for foster parents in Vlaardingen child abuse case

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has recommended 11-year prison sentences and compulsory psychiatric treatment at a TBS facility at the district court in Rotterdam in the case of a 10-year-old foster girl from Vlaardingen who was severely abused. Prosecutors say Johnny van den B. and Daisy W. deliberately caused serious physical injuries to their foster child between June 2023 and May 20, 2024, when she was hospitalized in critical condition with ten broken bones and brain damage.

The girl sustained five broken ribs and five fractured vertebrae. Prosecutors say it is also proven that, during the same period, the suspects abused their foster child in other ways, including hitting her forcefully on the thighs while she was squatting.

The two foster parents are also accused of restraining the girl unlawfully from December 2023. She was allegedly chained to a bunk bed or confined in a cage with an electric wire attached. “This constitutes a form of psychological torture,” the prosecutor said.

The girl suffered numerous injuries, including pressure sores on her heels. Prosecutors say these match the constant standing required in the cage, as do the swelling around her ankles. The foster parents allegedly neglected the child by giving her too little food and denying her medical care. At the time, she weighed just 19.5 kilograms.

According to the OM, the two suspects collaborated closely over an extended period, as shown by chat messages exchanged between W. and Van den B. It remains unclear exactly what occurred on May 20 last year or how the child suffered such severe injuries that she ended up in a coma. “Too little is known about that,” the prosecutor said. “That it could escalate to this extent is deeply tragic and barely foreseeable.”

Prosecutors say the defendants also abused the girl’s half-sister and two other foster children, both boys, who were living in the same household. The OM maintains that the mistreatment of these children has been clearly and convincingly proven.

According to experts at the Pieter Baan Center, both foster parents have a personality disorder, while Van den B. also exhibits an aggression disorder. On that basis, prosecutors concluded that the two defendants were not fully accountable for their actions.

Perhaps foster parents should be required to undergo psychological evaluations before putting vulnerable children in their care? What do you think?

The trial resumes Tuesday with final arguments from the defense. The defendants will have the opportunity to speak at the end of the third and final hearing day. The court has not yet announced when it will issue its ruling.

Mother of the Year Candidate > Baby neglected, daughter drowns alone in pool, Mom drinks at bar

..

This year's Mother of the Year so far belongs to Paraguay's Aurelia Salinas, who sold her 3-year-old daughter to be raped and murdered in a trade for crack cocaine. But, I think New York's Erica Baez should come under some consideration.

Bronx girl, 7, drowns in hotel pool while 5-month-old left alone in room

as mom drank at bar: prosecutors

A Bronx mom allegedly let her 7-year-old daughter drown in a hotel pool — while leaving her 5-month-old baby in the room alone — as she downed drinks at the bar, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Erica Baez, 41, is now being held without bail on second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child charges in the Jan. 13, 2022 horror at a Marriott Hotel in Melville.

The tragic girl, Katlyn, died May 1 after spending more than a year on life support, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Baez had been staying at the hotel with her boyfriend, her 5-month-old son and Katlyn when the boyfriend left for work early that day, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.

The mom had asked hotel staff to open the indoor pool around 3:30 p.m. — with workers warning her that no lifeguard was on duty and that she’d have to stay with her child, the DA’s office said.

But Baez instead headed to the hotel bar where she ate and drank an alcoholic cocktail while her daughter played alone in the pool for 30 minutes, prosecutors claimed.

The mother went to check on the child but then left her alone again while she went up to the hotel room to see her infant, who was also alone, the DA’s office claimed.

Baez went for a second cocktail and left the daughter for over 30 minutes before returning to the pool to find the girl “floating lifeless in the pool” the office alleged.

Erica Baez was charged with manslaughter after her 7-year-old daughter died after drowning in a Melville Marriott pool (pictured here) while her mother allegedly drank.

But instead of jumping straight in, Baez took time to take off her shoes and socks and put her phone aside before taking Katlyn out of the water, prosecutors said.

When EMS workers arrived, Baez lied telling them she’d only left the girl for five minutes, the DA’s office said.

The EMTs were able to revive the girl but she was left with irreversible brain damage from the lack of oxygen and was forced to live on a ventilator and feeding tube for two months, prosecutors said.

The little girl died on May 1 after she became septic, the office said.

Baez was arrested on May 15 and charged with second-degree manslaughter and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday.

“The alleged actions of this defendant were selfish, senseless and heartless,” District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement. “We are going to do everything we can to ensure that justice is served for little Katlyn, whose short life ended too soon.”

Baez is due back in court on May 24.

Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting, Killing Toddler Girl

The Associated Press

GLOUCESTER, NEW JERSEY - A man physically and sexually assaulted his new girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter before she died, and the couple waited an entire day to seek medical treatment while twice going shopping at a mall, investigators said Friday.

Michael Disporto Jr., 22, of Manahawkin, was charged Thursday with murder and first-degree aggravated sexual assault. The girl died Tuesday from blunt-force trauma to the head. He was being held on $1.5 million bail.

The girl's mother, 26-year-old Amber Bobo, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. It wasn't immediately clear if Disporto and Bobo had attorneys to comment on their behalf.

Investigators said Bobo noticed bruises on the girl's forehead at her Gloucester home on July 3 and suggested taking her to the hospital, but she waited seven hours because Disporto waved her off, investigators said in a probable cause statement. The couple had been dating for two weeks, investigators said.

In between, the three went to a nearby mall, where the girl began vomiting. They took the girl back to Bobo's home, where she vomited again before the three returned to the mall, investigators said. They shopped until around 3:30 p.m., then returned home again.

After the girl vomited for a third time and her eyes rolled back into her head later that afternoon, Bobo told Disporto that she wanted to take her daughter to the hospital, investigators said. But Disporto said the girl was "just tired" and told Bobo he would never see her again if she took the girl in, investigators said.

She finally called 911 at 6 p.m. and the girl was taken to the hospital, where she required brain surgery. She also had a fractured arm, pulmonary contusions and genital injuries. She died two days later.

Disporto said the toddler received the injuries by falling in the park the night before, investigators said.

What? Drugs, insanity, or just evil personified? There's no justice in New Jersey if that man ever sees the light of day again.

Single mom's need to be way more careful with boyfriends. A boyfriend of 2 weeks, or even 2 months, should never be left alone with a small child.

Tulsa man waives preliminary hearing in child sexual abuse-murder case

By ARIANNA PICKARD World Staff Writer

A Tulsa man charged with sexual abusing and killing his girlfriend’s 16-month-old daughter waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday, Tulsa County District Court records indicate.

Cody Alan Johnson, 30, waived his right to the hearing on four counts pertaining to Sawyer Paige Jefferson, who died in a hospital Dec. 5.

Special Judge James Keely directed Johnson to return to court June 6 to be arraigned on charges of child-abuse murder, child neglect and two counts of child sexual abuse, court records show. The arraignment is set before District Judge Sharon Holmes.

Johnson and his girlfriend took Sawyer to the emergency room at Saint Francis Hospital, where she was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest on arrival, an arrest report states.

Doctors placed the child on life support, but she never regained consciousness and later was pronounced dead, police said.

The charges allege the baby had extensive injuries, including brain damage, a detached right retina, extensive bruising to her head, and bleeding from her vagina and anus.

The couple told police that Johnson had been watching the infant at Shadow Mountain Condos in the 6300 block of South 80th East Avenue when she slipped on a toy and fell, Johnson’s arrest report states.

Johnson has previous felony convictions for knowingly concealing/receiving stolen property and driving under the influence, according to court records.
