Afghanistan: Women must accept ‘man’s world’ as they are not equal,

says Taliban education minister

Neda Mohammad Nadim remarked that a male is “the ruler” and he has the authority that should be accepted by women. He said that despite efforts of the West towards gender equality, men and women are fundamentally unequal.

The acting higher education minister of Afghanistan’s Taliban government, Neda Mohammad Nadim, has recently remarked that despite efforts made by Western countries for gender equality, men and women are “not equal”.

This is the extent of Islamic intellectualism. They can't see that women are superior in some things, men in other things. But it's not that they are unequal, but that they are just different.

Speaking at a meeting at the Baghlan University, Nadim said that there were attempts being made to “demolish” the current system under the pretext of addressing concerns related to women, Afghan-based TOLO News reported.

“The Almighty Allah has distinguished between men and women. A male is the ruler, he has the authority, he must be obeyed, and the woman must accept his world. A woman is not equal to a man; however, they [Western nations] have placed her above a man,” he said at the meeting.

Nadim said that the responsibility of the government is to act with “good behaviour” for the betterment of the people whilst providing security and justice. “This is the responsibility of the Islamic Emirate: to treat the people well,” he added.

Have they asked any women in Afghanistan if they think they are being treated well? Of course not! They probably didn't even invite any women to the meeting on how to treat women better.

Some professors and students of Baghlan University asked Nadim to create a suitable educational environment in universities, in terms of facilities and equipment……

Taliban education minister Neda Mohammad Nadim is speaking about women from the standpoint of Islamic teaching, which assigns women a place of inferiority:

India: Minor Hindu girl gang-raped, beheaded in ISIS style;

two Muslims and a minor arrested

While other platform remain indifferent, we have regularly highlighted how Muslims abduct Hindu girls from the streets in Islamic states such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. These girls are demonically raped — in most cases gang-raped — and brutally killed, if they are not forcibly married to one of these rapists. This is not to say that Hindu girls in India are safer from the prying eyes of those Muslim men who share the barbarity of their counterparts in the neighboring countries.

In one of the recent cases, two Muslim men and a minor have been accused of abducting a Hindu child from her house, raping her, beheading her and throwing her body in a local well. Clearly, they were trying to destroy evidence of their heinous act. The bone-chilling incident occurred on Sunday, September 24, in Sikar, Rajasthan. This news has sent shockwaves among locals and Internet users. Local police have arrested two Muslim youths under the charges of rape and the gruesome murder of the 15-year-old girl.

Sikar Superintendent of Police Ali Paris Deshmukh has disclosed that the minor girl, a student of class ten, had gone missing on Sunday, September 26. Police had initiated an investigation based on the missing complaint that was registered by her family. The victim’s family had accused the three Muslim youth of abducting, raping, blackmailing and murdering their daughter. Subsequently, a rape and murder case was registered, and search operations were initiated by the police. It didn’t take long for the police to recover the victim’s mutilated body from a well that was situated right in the middle of the village. 

The girl’s body, beheaded in classic ISIS style after being gang-raped, was a gory and traumatizing sight for everyone who saw it. Police have identified the accused as Sameer (19) and Ghulam (19). Both have been arrested. The third accused, also detained, remains unnamed due to his age; he is a minor. The police have stated that the three are being interrogated, and district officials have assured the grieving family of a fair investigation.

As per reports, an officer has also revealed that local CCTV footage also confirms the involvement of the named suspects in this case. “We have reviewed the CCTV footage installed along the route to the victim’s house. The suspects are seen approaching and leaving the victim’s residence. The identification of the suspects has been confirmed through the CCTV footage. One of the suspects also has an injury in his hand,” he said to the media.

The incident has also resulted in a massive public uproar and triggered several political debates. Opposition leaders in the state have also staged sit-in demonstrations, demanding justice for the victim and her family. The protesters are demanding financial assistance for the family as well.

The political opponents of the state government have slammed the ruling Congress government and questioned Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over the incident. “These gruesome scenes of taking out dead bodies of our daughters from wells after they are raped have now become common in Congress’s Jungle Raj,” remarked BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj.

A similar incident was reported from the state of Madhya Pradesh last week. Taking immediate cognizance of this, the state Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, assured the people of Madhya Pradesh that the culprit would be given the death penalty within two months. This assurance reflects the state’s adherence to IPC section 376DB (punishment for rape of a woman under 12 years of age by one or more persons). People are waiting to see if the Congress government will follow the promptness demonstrated by the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

While different states may have different approaches towards such cases, what remains a constant in some Muslims’ victimization of Hindu women? Hindu women have been the targets of some Muslims since the days of Islamic invasion in India; the atrocities continue, and almost no severe actions from authorities follow in order to check these repeated crimes. This only encourages the miscreants. The numbers are soaring as in an epidemic, and cry out for immediate attention and a permanent solution. Otherwise, the future of young Hindu girls doesn’t auger well.

Ashlyn, The term "auger well" is a most unfortunate choice for this story.

The Muslim invasion of India began in the 10th century and continues intermittently today.

Canada to champion sexual and reproductive health and rights around the world, whether they want it or not

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau marked International Women's Day by promising $650 million for reproductive health and rights around the world.

The money, which will be invested over a three-year period, will support projects that provide sex education, strengthen reproductive health services, and support family planning and contraceptives. It will also fund programs to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence, including forced marriage and female genital mutilation, and supporting the right of women to get safe and legal abortions.

The figure represents a doubling of current funding, Trudeau said in Ottawa this morning.

Canada is also supporting initiatives that will accelerate the use of contraceptives by 2020.

Trudeau said that around the world, women and girls are subjected to sexual violence, denied education and ownership of their own bodies, and held down by poverty.

Missed economic opportunities

"This is not only a tragedy; it is a missed opportunity for many countries that could benefit greatly from the economic contributions of women," he said during an event to mark International Women's Day at a government building across from Parliament Hill.

Trudeau, a self-described feminist, said women and girls must have the same rights to choose when and with whom they want to start a family, and its size.

Take that, Donald!

Canada's announcement comes in the wake of an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump to block funding to organizations that support abortion services. That decision is estimated to leave a $600-million gap for international groups.

Trudeau said Canada is committed to taking a leadership role in the fight to prevent risky abortions and promote reproductive rights.

"For far too many women and girls, unsafe abortions and lack of choices in reproductive health mean that they are either at risk, and at risk of death, or simply cannot contribute or achieve their potential through education, through involvement in their community, through a broad range of opportunities," he said.

"It is important that as a world we recognize that empowering women, that respecting their rights, is fundamental to building a world in which everyone has a real and fair chance to succeed. "

He said he looks forward to a day when it is not "remarkable or rare" for men to declare themselves feminists, and when there is gender equality on executive boards and community organizations.

Equal power, influence

"When women have equal power and equal weight and equal leadership influence, the kinds of decisions are better," he said.

International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau called on men and boys to rally behind the feminist cause to empower women and girls.

"We cannot do it alone. We need you," she said.

Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose said the government should target funds for programs that are supported by the recipient aid agencies and countries instead of delivering dollars to abortion which is illegal in a majority of the countries.

She said the Conservative maternal and newborn health initiative was "wildly supported" around the world.

"We think it's important to continue to fund the kinds of aid packages and aid that actually gets to these countries, to help the women, and some of the funding that the Liberals are talking about may never get to these countries because abortion is illegal in these countries," she said.

Sexual violence reporting barriers

At a separate event in Gatineau, Que., Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould launched a forum to discuss the systemic problems in Canada's criminal justice system in responding to the needs of sexual assault victims. She said the crimes disproportionately affect women, yet go largely unreported to police and are less likely to result in a guilty verdict.

If you believe the Dept' of Justice statistics, child sex abuse is virtually unheard of in Canada. That is so absurdly ridiculous as to be ludicrous.

"This crime has a gendered impact, and unfortunately myths and stereotypes continue to surface at all stages of the criminal justice system," she said.

Wilson-Raybould said the government is "unwavering" in its commitment to improving practices to ensure these "horrific" crimes are brought to justice.

Sheila Malcolmson, the NDP's critic for the status of women, issued a statement criticizing successive Liberal and Conservative governments for "consistently failing to act" on women's issues.

"The current Liberal government was elected with high hopes of real change, but women are now facing the disappointing reality of a government that fails to back up feminist rhetoric with actual policies to improve women's equality," she said.

Call for action

Malcolmson urged the government to take a number of steps, including pay equity legislation, a national action plan to end violence against women and girls and universal and affordable child care.

She also called for more funding for shelters helping women fleeing violence and a plan to improve access to sexual and reproductive health care in Canada, including abortion.

Ambrose posted a video on Facebook outlining the issues her party has championed in the past, including improved response to sexual assault survivors, property rights for Indigenous women, resettlement of Yazidi women and girl victims of ISIS and the UN declaration of the International Day of the Girl.

"We are capable of anything we put our minds to. I will always believe that," she said.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston also issued a statement to mark the day, saying Canadian women play a vital role in every aspect of our society, yet continue to be "underrepresented and undervalued."

"Every day, women demonstrate their determination, courage and solidarity, continually pushing back against the limits imposed upon them simply because of their gender," he said. "However, if the aim of true equality is to be attained, we must collectively redouble our efforts."

Pakistani Women’s Rights Group Wins French Prize for Conflict Prevention

Aware Girls, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that advocates for women’s rights in Pakistan, was awarded a prize for conflict prevention on Thursday by the Jacques Chirac foundation.

The NGO has fought for women’s rights and equal access to education, health and other services since 2002, in direct opposition to Pakistan’s conservative social values and religious traditions.

Their activism, however, has not been without risk.

“You try to change the system and those who are beneficiaries of the old system try to resist and want to hurt you. They do propaganda against you so to suppress you. They scare you so much that you go silent," Gulalai Ismail, founder of Aware Girls, told FRANCE 24.

Women and girls have been discriminated against for too long in a twisted interpretation of the word of God.

I HAVE been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention's leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be "subservient" to their husbands and prohibited from serving as deacons, pastors or chaplains in the military service.

This view that women are somehow inferior to men is not restricted to one religion or belief. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths. Nor, tragically, does its influence stop at the walls of the church, mosque, synagogue or temple. This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women's equal rights across the world for centuries.

At its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities.

The impact of these religious beliefs touches every aspect of our lives. They help explain why in many countries boys are educated before girls; why girls are told when and whom they must marry; and why many face enormous and unacceptable risks in pregnancy and childbirth because their basic health needs are not met.

In some Islamic nations, women are restricted in their movements, punished for permitting the exposure of an arm or ankle, deprived of education, prohibited from driving a car or competing with men for a job. If a woman is raped, she is often most severely punished as the guilty party in the crime.

The same discriminatory thinking lies behind the continuing gender gap in pay and why there are still so few women in office in the West. The root of this prejudice lies deep in our histories, but its impact is felt every day. It is not women and girls alone who suffer. It damages all of us. The evidence shows that investing in women and girls delivers major benefits for society. An educated woman has healthier children. She is more likely to send them to school. She earns more and invests what she earns in her family.

It is simply self-defeating for any community to discriminate against half its population. We need to challenge these self-serving and outdated attitudes and practices - as we are seeing in Iran where women are at the forefront of the battle for democracy and freedom.

I understand, however, why many political leaders can be reluctant about stepping into this minefield. Religion, and tradition, are powerful and sensitive areas to challenge. But my fellow Elders and I, who come from many faiths and backgrounds, no longer need to worry about winning votes or avoiding controversy - and we are deeply committed to challenging injustice wherever we see it.

The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by former South African president Nelson Mandela, who offer their influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity. We have decided to draw particular attention to the responsibility of religious and traditional leaders in ensuring equality and human rights and have recently published a statement that declares: "The justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a Higher Authority, is unacceptable."

We are calling on all leaders to challenge and change the harmful teachings and practices, no matter how ingrained, which justify discrimination against women. We ask, in particular, that leaders of all religions have the courage to acknowledge and emphasise the positive messages of dignity and equality that all the world's major faiths share.

The carefully selected verses found in the Holy Scriptures to justify the superiority of men owe more to time and place - and the determination of male leaders to hold onto their influence - than eternal truths. Similar biblical excerpts could be found to support the approval of slavery and the timid acquiescence to oppressive rulers.

I am also familiar with vivid descriptions in the same Scriptures in which women are revered as pre-eminent leaders. During the years of the early Christian church women served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets. It wasn't until the fourth century that dominant Christian leaders, all men, twisted and distorted Holy Scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant positions within the religious hierarchy.

The truth is that male religious leaders have had - and still have - an option to interpret holy teachings either to exalt or subjugate women. They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter. Their continuing choice provides the foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world. This is in clear violation not just of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights but also the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, Moses and the prophets, Muhammad, and founders of other great religions - all of whom have called for proper and equitable treatment of all the children of God. It is time we had the courage to challenge these views.

Muhammad's proper treatment of women was never equitable! It included child brides and women were clearly worth one-half of a man. Non-Muslim women and girls were kafirs and as such could be beaten and raped at any age as long as the child was able to bear the process. These are directly from the writings of Muhammad.

As far as Christianity is concerned, he is right, at least to a point. We have been guilty of lording it over women, some denominations more than others, but most are not equitable or fair in our treatment of women. There are Biblical reasons for this other than what President Carter has mentioned, but they are very often over-applied.
