In a shocking case in Prayagraj, a man named Mohammad Arif (35) murdered his mother and sister using an axe. The accused gave the Islamic war cry “Allah hu Akbar” while committing the murders. His father and nephew too were seriously injured in the attack as Mohammad Arif tried to murder other members of his family.

After the murders, Arif set fire to the house.

Arif’s elder brother, Mohammad Azam, who managed to save himself, reportedly said that the former held radical views. “Arif held radical views. He was shouting ‘Allah hu Akbar’ while killing his mother and sister,” Mohammad Azam, brother of accused said. A video doing the rounds on social media shows Arif walking on the balcony with a black flag.

The accused pelted stones at the police upon their arrival. He also hurled on them 250 glass bottles filled with acid, and set fire to the house using the gas cylinder. The police had to release tear gas in order to bring Arif into their control. It was only after 2.5 hours of struggle that the police could catch hold of the radical. More than 24 people were reportedly injured in the acid attack and stone pelting.

It has come to light that Mohammad Arif used to watch ISIS videos and read books about the terrorist organisation. He had hatched a conspiracy to launch the attack almost a week ago. Arif told his brother Azam to vacate the house and live in another house which was built nearby. When Azam and other family members refused to leave, Arif chopped his mother and sister into pieces.

His elder brother Mohammad Azam reportedly said that Arif had help from two of his friends. He intended to finish the entire family and had carried with him a knife, sword, daggar [sic], chain, and acid….

OSU study calls for better screening of sexual abuse in children

The study of more than 6,500 people finds that the longer the abuse, the worse the impact

A recent study by researchers at Oregon State University found that chronic childhood sexual abuse is more likely to lead to negative outcomes in adults than single instances of trauma.

The findings highlight the importance of screening for chronic trauma, rather than relying on one-time checklist-style assessments, which, for instance, ask how severe was the abuse or who was the abuser to the victim.

Popular assessment tools like the Adverse Childhood Experiences, which consists of a series of questions, could be greatly improved with a few basic follow-up questions about the duration of abuse, according to the study’s lead author, Ashley Schuyler.

“(Adverse Childhood Experiences) is useful, but maybe not the most helpful in identifying the individuals who need the most help.” Schuyler told the Capital Chronicle.

Consequences of child sex abuse

Along with physical and mental health challenges, adults who experienced chronic abuse as children suffer from higher rates of drug abuse, poverty and incarceration. Longer durations of childhood trauma are also linked to higher rates of emotional and physical health problems, sexual dissatisfaction and dysfunction, relationship and marital problems, fair or poor overall health, lower educational attainment, income below the poverty level and a history of incarceration.

This is a key issue in Oregon, which surveys have consistently shown ranks high nationwide in the number of children and adults struggling with mental health issues and low in providing access to treatment. The rate of Oregonians with mental illness – 23.8% – was around 4% higher than the national average of 19.9%, according to a 2021 study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. And the share of Oregonians who reported experiencing anxiety or depression and did not receive counseling or therapy was around 8% higher than the national average, or 34.5% compared to 26.9%.

The OSU study did not break down by state the number of adults who suffered childhood trauma, but nationwide the number is estimated to be around 16 million. Of those, around 10 million adults suffered for “intermediate” or “extreme” durations.

In the study, Schuyler and co-author Joseph Catania examined data from the 1995-1996 National Sexual Health Survey conducted by the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California-San Francisco. It’s one of few surveys large enough to be considered representative of the U.S. population,  Schuyler said.

A few problems here. These data are 26-27 years old, so they were collected before the great drug epidemic across North America, and the legalization of marijuana in some states. Both of these are known to affect mental illnesses like schizophrenia and paranoia. 

Also, there are no studies indicating the number of adults who refuse to acknowledge having been sexually abused as a child until they are in their 30's, 40's or 50's. That number is undoubtedly significant as these people keep showing up on my blog all the time. So, the percentage of those reporting having been abused as a child comes well short of reality.

Of the 6,537 survey respondents, 8.1% reported experiencing chronic sexual trauma prior to turning 18. Fourteen percent of women surveyed reported experiencing chronic childhood sexual abuse, as did 20 to 25% of gay and bisexual men. Those rates have been confirmed in subsequent studies, Schuyler said.

The longer the abuse, the worse the trauma

The OSU paper found that the longer childhood trauma took place, the greater the likelihood of adult survivors seeking help, whether in a health care setting, or informally, by confiding to friends and family, for example. Only 27% of respondents who suffered a single instance of trauma reported seeking help, compared to 42% of people with “intermediate-duration” trauma, i.e., one to three years, and 59% of people with extreme-duration trauma of at least four years.

Fear is a major contributor to the trauma of child sexual abuse. The longer the abuse continues, the more fear is associated with it, and the greater the strain on mental health.

Public health officials need to work on de-stigmatizing sex-related trauma, Schuyler said. ACEs and other checklist-style screening tools are useful as a jumping-off point, but there needs to be more specialized follow-up care, she said.

“On the health care side, one step at reducing that stigma is better preparing and equipping providers to talk about these issues with patients, to ask the right questions and not wait for the patient to bring it up,” she said. “It can help normalize the idea that these are issues we should talk about; that we have resources available to support you.”

Every sexually abused child/adult should be able to access mental health care.

In policy debates, the detrimental effects of migration on crime, particularly gang crime, do not receive nearly the attention -- if any -- they deserve. They should.

One of the fastest growing criminal networks in Europe is now the Nigerian mafia, which is spreading its criminal activities across the continent. It consists of rival groups such as Black Axe, Vikings and Maphite. Most recently, authorities in Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Malta conducted an international operation directed at two of the major Nigerian mafia groups. Police accused the gangs of human-trafficking, drug trafficking, robbery, extortion, sexual violence and prostitution.

According to a June 2019 report by the Washington Post on the Nigerian mafia in Italy:

"They hold territory from the north in Turin to the south in Palermo. They smuggle drugs and traffic women, deploying them as prostitutes on Italy's streets. They find new members among the caste of wayward migrants, illicitly recruiting at Italian government-run asylum centers."

The Nigerian mafia, according to the report, is "trafficking women by the tens of thousands". Italian intelligence has named the group "the most structured and dynamic" of any foreign crime entity operating in Italy, according to the Washington Post.

"Some experts say that as many as 20,000 Nigerian women, some of them minors, arrived in Sicily between 2016 and 2018, trafficked in cooperation with Nigerians in Italy and back home."

It is no wonder that the Nigerian group has become so prominent in Italy: the country has been one of Europe's front doors for migrants entering Europe.

What distinguishes the Nigerian crime networks is their severe brutality -- Italian police have described them as using "urban guerilla warfare" to hold on to territory in Italy -- and their use of voodoo rituals. According to a July 2017 report by the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM), sex trafficked victims give an oath "sealed with a voodoo ritual or a rite of initiation (the victim is committed to honouring her agreement)" to their traffickers and also harbor "a fear of retaliation by traffickers on the victim's family members back in their country of origin".

According to the 2017 IOM report:

"Over the past three years, IOM Italy has seen an almost 600 per cent increase in the number of potential sex trafficking victims arriving in Italy by sea. This upward trend has continued during the first six months of 2017, with most victims arriving from Nigeria".

In its report, IOM estimated that 80 per cent of girls, often minors, arriving from Nigeria -- whose numbers soared dramatically from 1,454 in 2014 to 11,009 in 2016 -- were "potential victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation".

The Nigerian mafia has not limited its operations to just Italy. It has spread as far north in Europe as Germany and Sweden. In London, a trio of Black Axe members was found guilty of laundering almost £1 million, which had been stolen through phone and email fraud. The Nigerian mafia, specifically the group Black Axe, has also spread to Canada, where a 2015 report by the Globe and Mail described it as a "death cult" originating in Nigeria, where it has been linked to "decades of murders and rapes, and its members are said to swear a blood oath". In the US, the FBI recently linked a series of financial frauds to Black Axe. According to the news report, "In the United States and around the world, the group is responsible for the loss of millions of dollars through a variety of elaborate cons".

In Sweden, police has described Black Axe as "one of the world's most effective crime syndicates". Swedish media recently ran a story that shows how Black Axe operates: A 16-year-old Nigerian girl was promised a job in Sweden as a hair stylist. When she arrived, Black Axe forced her to work as a prostitute, after she had gone through a voodoo ritual. "We have your blood now", Black Axe members told her, "If you run we will always find you".

In 2018, three Nigerians were prosecuted in Malmö for luring Nigerian women to Sweden with the promise of jobs and then forcing them into prostitution after making them go through a voodoo ritual that involved the eating of a raw chicken heart. According to the Swedish prosecutor, the voodoo ritual is a way to control and exploit the trafficked victims, who believe in voodoo.

Similar rituals went on in the UK in 2018, when a trafficker sought to traffic Nigerian women from Nigeria to Germany and in Spain, also in 2018, when a trafficking ring of 12 Nigerians was arrested, also for forcing women into prostitution and putting them through similar voodoo rites. In Germany, according to a recent report by Deutsche Welle, a growing number of Nigerian women are ending up as prostitutes in one of Germany's largest red-light districts in Duisburg, and according to Barbara Wellner of Solidarity with Women in Distress, "Nigerian human traffickers are responsible for smuggling in most of them".

The number of Nigerian women trafficked into prostitution in Germany, while still relatively small, has been growing in recent years, according to a March 2019 report by Info-Migrants. In 2013, just 2.8% of known victims were from Nigeria. That went up to 5% in 2016 and up to 8% in 2017. According to the report, which quotes Andrea Tivig from the women's rights organization, Terre des Femmes, the traffickers use the asylum system:

"I've heard reports in Italy... that traffickers tell victims of human trafficking to apply for asylum and then get a status to be able to stay here in Germany, but they continue to be exploited in prostitution."

The Nigerian mafia groups form just one part, albeit very troubling, of the total picture of imported migrant gang crime in Europe. As previously reported by Gatestone Institute, migrant gang crime already poses a threat to European citizens. In November 2018, Naser Khader, member of the Danish Parliament for the Conservative Party and co-founder of the Muslim Reform Movement, wrote in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten:

In Sweden, migrant gang crime has become an almost insurmountable problem: some commentators there have described the situation as "war". Denmark is increasingly fighting migrant gang crime. In Germany, where the migrant gangs are known as criminal family clans, authorities expect to be fighting the problem for decades to come.

Woman Reveals Years of Child Sex Abuse After Father Jailed for 20 Years

A WOMAN sexually abused as a child at the hands of her father says justice has been done after he was jailed for 20 years.

Fairfax Media can reveal Cornelis Smit will spend up to two decades in prison for years of sexual abuse – one of the biggest jail sentences ever handed down in Tamworth District Court.

Elisabeth Orr waived her right to anonymity under NSW laws, to ensure people knew exactly what her father had done, and to encourage victims of abuse to come forward.

“I’m not a victim, I’m a survivor,” she told Fairfax Media.

Mrs Orr, now aged 53, was terrorised in the family home on the outskirts of Tamworth growing up in the 1970s, and in some cases her father would keep her home from school “for his pleasure”.

Judge Jeffrey McLennan said Smit could have received a longer jail term had he not received a 25 per cent discount for his early guilty plea to four charges of rape.

Smit, a retired Tamworth diesel mechanic, won’t be eligible for parole for 10 years – and has likely seen the last of his freedom after he was taken into custody in the Tamworth courtroom aged 79, in front of his family.

“It’s 20 years to his life, but he gave me a life sentence,” Mrs Orr said. “I will never, ever be the person I could have been because of what he did to me.”

Smit was jailed for four counts of rape with four other charges of assaulting a female and committing an act of indecency with a child under the age of 16 taken into account in the aggregate sentence.

According to facts tendered in court, Smit approached the then 13-year-old in 1977 while she was folding the washing inside the family home and raped her.

“This occurred every second to third night while the offender was home,” the facts stated. That same year, he abused her after she got into the top bunk bed in her bedroom to go to sleep.

When Mrs Orr was 14, she was raped again in the home and ordered to go and have a shower after Smit said “words similar to ‘wash yourself out so you don’t get pregnant’”.

After having a shower, the teenager approached the offender and “told him she was going to tell her mother what he was doing to her”.

The offender grabbed the complainant by the wrist and twisted her arm causing her pain. The offender said words similar to 'if you tell her I will kill her and all your brothers and sisters and I will leave you alive so you know you caused it’.

After keeping quiet for so many years out of fear, the catalyst to come forward was the death of her brother in 2015. Mrs Orr picked up the phone to police after a tearful promise to her brother on his death bed.

“He blamed himself for not protecting me,” she said. “He never got over it, he was so ashamed that he didn’t stop it."

“It haunted my bother and it’s haunted me. So I made a promise that I would take [my father] to court.”

Mrs Orr said her “biggest fear was that they wouldn’t believe me because it was such a long time ago”.

“The two police officers that came out to talk to me, they were brilliant. They listened to me,” she said.

And the Tamworth detectives that took on the case were so patient, so supportive and so determined to help me. Without the detectives, I don’t know that I could of done it.

In one of the charges taken into account on sentencing, Smit approached the complainant when she was 14 “and said words similar to ‘you’re old enough to please a man, I'm going to teach you how to please a man."

Mrs Orr went to police in 2015 before Smit was placed under phone surveillance by detectives in 2016.

“The offender made several admissions during [a] conversation,” facts stated. Mrs Orr contacted Smit, and in a face-to-face confrontation made admissions during a conversation “to having sex with the complainant”.

He was arrested after Christmas in 2016 and charged.

Although she says justice has been done, Mrs Orr, who has worked as a drug and alcohol counsellor for many years, will never be able to get over what happened to her growing up.

“I hope that it helps others, and that it gives them the strength to come forward,” she said.

“[But I thought] this is not my fault, I didn’t do anything to cause this, I didn’t deserve this, I was raped.”

In written submissions, the Crown argued Smit had “breached a position of trust” and the offending occurred “over an extended period and occurs numerous times”.

"He threatened to kill her mother and siblings, leaving her alive to know her disclosure caused the deaths,” the submission said. “This is a significant aggravating feature of the offending."

Barrister Jason Curtis argued his client had pleaded guilty at the first available opportunity, had no criminal history, “his age and illnesses” would be tougher to deal with in prison and he was likely to be moved to a Sydney prison, away from any visiting family members.

Was his guilty plea made because he had been duped into confessing his crimes? Would he have plead guilty if he thought there was a chance of acquittal in a trial?

In a Victim Impact Statement (VIS) to the court, Mrs Orr detailed how she “feared him” and “prayed he would crash his car on the way home”.

She said her father “stole my innocence, made me fear for my safety and the safety of my family”.

“He controlled me by my fear of what he could do and what he said he would do if I dared share out secret,” she said in her VIS.

Smit will be 89 when he’s eligible for parole in 2027.

© Northumbria Police - Newcastle grooming gang victims have relived the horrendous ordeals they were subjected to as teenagers when members of a gang abused and repeatedly raped them.

Victims of the 17-man and one-woman gang who forced vulnerable teenagers into sex and prostitution have told a court how their abusers ruined their lives – as they are sent to prison.

One woman spoke of how she sleeps with a knife by her bedside, suffers from a personality disorder and is on constant suicide watch, even now years have passed since her ordeal.

Habibur Rahim locked one girl, then aged 17, inside a room and pushed a wardrobe against her only escape route, before forcing himself on her.

Father-of-two Rahim, 34, is one of 18 convicted members of a gang that forced girls into prostitution and raped them.

Now in her 20s, his victim told Newcastle Crown Court: “I have suffered severe depression and a split personality.

“I feel paranoid all the time and don’t feel safe in my own flat. I have started losing my hair.

“I wake up in the night fearing Sham [Rahim] is in the flat. I keep wanting to take my own life to get away from it all. I now sleep with a knife by my bed.

“My boyfriend is scared to leave me alone in case I try to kill myself.”

The court heard how Rahim, or Sham, from Fenham in Newcastle, plied his victims with alcohol and drugs before launching his sex assault.

He was jailed for a total of 29 years for one count of rape, two counts of conspiracy to incite prostitution relating to eight different victims, and a number of other offences linked to trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Thirteen victims came forward to give evidence against the Newcastle grooming gang which ruined their lives – but many were too afraid to speak out.

Six of the abusers have now been jailed and the others await sentencing.

Judge Penny Moreland said “Sham” caused extreme harm to his victims.

Judge Moreland was forced to rebuke Abdul Sabe, 40, Badrul Hussain, 37 and Mohibur Rahman, 44 who were in the dock with Rahim, during sentencing. The group chatted, yawned and stretched as proceedings took place.

Sabe, of Dean House in Newcastle, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for supplying drugs, conspiracy to incite prostitution, conspiracy to traffic for sexual exploitation, conspiracy to sexual assault.

Rahman, or “Jimmy”, was jailed for four-and-a-half years for conspiracy to incite prostitution and five drugs charges.

Hussain, of Drybeck Court in Newcastle, was jailed for four years for supplying drugs and allowing their use at “parties” where girls were attacked.

The court was told how Hussain abused a ticket inspector in 2014, stating “white women are only good for one thing”. He shouted: “For men like me to **** and use like trash. That’s all women like you are worth.”

Isn't this exactly what Mohammed taught? And isn't it what many, if not most Pakistani Muslims believe? And isn't it, by extension, what many police and councils throughout northern England believe? White trash? Not worth the trouble of saving, even though they were just children! Not worth the value of Pakistani men, even those who pedaled drugs, raped children and prostituted them! By their action, or lack thereof, this is apparently what police and councils in Newcastle, Rotherham, Rochdale, Oxford, etc., etc. believed. Is this not Islamization?

Another victim said she suffers “flashbacks” from the abuse six years ago, which was uncovered in Operation Shelter three years ago when two victims approached police.

The police investigation revealed that girls were frequently drugged, raped and forced to have sex with different men who had befriended and groomed them.

A total of 17 men and one woman have been convicted of offences including rape, sexual abuse, supplying drugs and trafficking for sexual exploitation in a series of trials.

Another investigation, Operation Sanctuary, may have identified as many as 700 potential victims of sexual exploitation throughout the north-east of England.

Iowa DHS Seriously Failed Special Needs Kids with Parents from Hell

Iowa couple who adopted 9 kids with disabilities charged with abuse after 68 police reports

Police were reportedly called to a house in Ankeny, Iowa, 68 times over the past 10 years to investigate allegations that a couple was abusing their adopted children with disabilities before making an arrest.

John Elmer Bell, 55, and Joyce Marie Bell, 57, were arrested Thursday on felony charges of child endangerment causing bodily injury, according to the Des Moines Register.

The couple were arrested after their 21-year-old adopted daughter, Krystal Bell, gave the Ankeny Police Department videos she secretly filmed for more than a year, documenting the extent of the abuse at the Bell house.

“I actually feel happy. I feel relieved a little bit, but then at the same time I feel like we haven't had enough justice yet. They should have a lot more coming to them than what they have right now,” Krystal said, according to WHO.

One of the videos reportedly shows John repeatedly hitting his 16-year-old autistic son.

“I will hit you in the f***ing mouth,” John screamed, according to the Des Moines Register.

The state Department of Human Services reportedly removed the two remaining children from the home earlier this month after receiving a call about child abuse. They have been placed in a shelter, reported the Register.

The police became aware of the videos in March 2016, the Register reported, and the police were called to the house 68 times since 2007.

According to the Register, the police were called multiple times a year for reports of fighting, assault, sexual abuse, attempted suicide, and others that said the children had been kicked out of the house or ran away from home.

The reports also contain several references to guns being kept in the house, including one from 2015 that says Krystal called to report both her parents had ganged up on her. Police reported there was blood on the wall and guns in the house.

Another report from 2009 said that Makayla Bell, one of the children adopted by the Bells who was permanently removed from the home when she was 17, told police that she was “being abused by her parents and she will not go back home.”

After her adoptive parents were arrested, Makayla told KCCI that she lived in constant fear of being abused when she was living in the Bell house.

“Joyce had kicked me in the face several times, and I didn't even realize how bad it was until about three or four days after when I looked in the mirror and couldn't recognize myself,” Makayla said. “It was bad enough to the point where I didn't want to live anymore.”

Makayla was placed in a shelter after photos were taken of her injuries. Joyce was not charged in that incident.

Makayla told the Register that her adoptive parents started physically abusing her about a year after she was adopted. She reported the abuse but said that her adoptive parents acted friendly and downplayed situations when police and social workers came to the house, and they did not investigate the claims further.

She added that all of the children had mental and physical disabilities ranging from bipolar disorder to mental retardation to cerebral palsy.

Krystal said that, at one point, all nine adopted children and one biological child were living in the three-bedroom house at the same time. 

“The other two bedrooms were where all the kids slept, or in the living room on the floor, or in the back room on the floor. Sometimes we slept down in the basement," Krystal told WHO.

Where was DHS? How could they not have known this was a totally abusive situation?

The Register reported that Iowa puts no limits on the number of children that foster parents are legally allowed to adopt, and pays foster parents up to $12,333 a year per child. With the Bell family adopting nine special needs children, they could make as much as $110,000 a year.

One of the Bell children, who has a mental illness, said that after being removed from the house, John kept the money she received from her Social Security disability checks.

The police need to throw the book at these people. They should have done that 10 years ago and would have saved a lot of suffering. 

Iowa needs to bring their foster parent and adoptive parents policies in line with sanity. Right now they appear to serve Iowa's budget a lot more than the welfare of special needs children and adults.

Maajid Nawaz: Child Sex Abuse Is A 'Sickness' In Our Communities

Off the back of the Rochdale sex abuse scandal, Maajid says we all need to acknowledge that there are problems within the Pakistani-Muslim community.

In a powerful speech on LBC, Maajid Nawaz says there is a sense of "denial" that the problem exists in certain communities for fear of appearing racist.

After Nazir Afzal, a prosecutor in the Rochdale child sex abuse scandal, called upon Muslim communities to stop blaming the victims of the abuse, Maajid Nawaz has confessed that there is a sense of denial about the problem in the Muslim communities. 

In a powerful speech on his LBC show, Maajid said that there is a sense of "denial" about the problem in certain communities and that the "problem is getting worse".

He said: "Over a three year period, 4066 sex crimes against girls and boys under the age of 13 were reported last year. We're not talking about consenting sex, or you know, the grey area. We're not asking 'was it date rape?'. We're talking about children under the age of 13. There can never be consent. 

"This sickness must first be acknowledged and then rooted out. It cannot be rooted out unless of course it is first acknowledged.

"The situation is being made worse by do-gooders who are attempting to brush it under the carpet for fear of appearing racist."

Maajid quotes a report by a Labour MP who states that the number of child sex abuse offences in Greater Manchester increased from 136 in 2013 to 714 in 2016. An astonishing increase in light of the Rochdale, Rotherham, Oxford, and other scandals.

Pakistani men are disproportionately involved in the grooming and child sex abuse. This needs to be acknowledged before any progress can be made to even slow down the extraordinary increase in child sex abuse.

BACA organization holding 100-mile ride next month

TRURO – Big B and Shorty are members of a new biker group, and they’re on a mission to protect children.

The first Nova Scotia chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), which exists to create a safer environment for abused children, formed in Truro in December and the group is holding a 100-mile ride this spring.

“I was never a joiner but when I read about this I knew it was where I want to be,” said Shorty, a Pictou County resident who is the chapter’s vice-president. “This is a very positive thing to be part of. 

Our mission is to enable children to live without fear.”

Aiming to work more efficiently, members do not use their names, but go by a nickname specially chosen for their BACA activities.

The organization has chapters around the world and works in conjunction with official agencies and departments, who refer children experiencing fear. While cases are being processed within the system BACA members meet with the child and provide the names and numbers of two members they can contact when they feel the need. (These are bikers who have had extensive background checks and received instructions from a mental health professional.) The contact will escort children if they feel unsafe, ride by their homes on a regular basis, support them at court hearings, attend interviews and spend time with them when they’re afraid. They never go to a child’s house alone or without the permission of parents.

“I got involved because I could see things that weren’t right and I wanted to help children have the best life they can have,” said Big B, a Colchester County resident and president of the chapter. “I’m a big teddy bear and I don’t want any child to suffer.”

The Truro chapter currently has 10 members and they’re happy to hear from bikers interested in joining them.

All bikers are welcome to take part in the ride on May 20. The cost is $20 per bike and participants are invited to go to the Engine Room following it to enjoy live music and a silent auction.

Chapters around the world hold their ride the same day to raise funds and awareness.

“Come out and support us; we’re good guys,” added Shorty. “We need people to know about us. The innocence of children should never be stripped away by a monster.”

Ex-cop Gets Prison After Raping Children While on Duty

FLINT, Michigan -- Former Flint police Sgt. Lawrence Woods will spend more than a decade in prison in connection with sexual assaults that took place while he was still on the force.

Woods, 68, was sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 15, to 15-25 years in prison after he plead guilty in June on 16 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct that included persons under 13 years old.

An investigation was opened by Flint police in summer 2014 after a victim stepped forward with allegations of incidents two decades prior.

Other victims came out with their own stories of inappropriate conduct by Woods between 1996-1999. Woods retired from the department in 2002.

Investigators revealed in September 2014 they'd unearthed a substantial amount of child pornography at four homes Woods lived or stayed at in the past.

A woman who identified herself as a victim told Genesee Circuit Judge Richard Yuille prior to the sentence that Woods befriended her mother, offered her drugs and would take the children out to dinner, shopping, and swimming.

"I feel like in the beginning, he sweetened us up," said the woman, who told the court Woods soon began to force her to perform sexual acts in his living room and would threaten and beat her if he believed another man touched her.

The woman told the judge Woods would force her to perform sexual acts on him while in the police department office and cop car.

"Not only did I put my trust in him, but my mother ... as well, and they both failed me," said the mother of three children.

She didn't understand why no one at the police department ever stepped forward to question her appearance in the office late at night.

"I didn't know if it was the fear they had from him, because I had it as well," said the woman.

She shared a story of Woods ripping into a fellow officer after he pulled the car over for excessive speed down a Flint street.

"That was the day I knew nobody could protect me from him," she said.

Flint police issued a statement after Woods pleaded guilty.

"The Flint Police Department is disgusted by the actions of Lawrence Woods. His crimes victimized numerous citizens of the community that it is our duty to protect and serve," read the statement. "We commend the brave victims who came forward, allowing the Flint Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau to investigate these crimes and remove this criminal from our streets."

The woman said she tried to get out of Woods' grasp by finding her father's side of the family, but she said he would always manage to find her and kept a constant surveillance on her whereabouts.

Woods arranged sensors and placed powder on the floor at his Flint apartment while he was gone to find out if anyone came into the dwelling or if she left at any point, she told the court.

"He has single-handedly destroyed what was left in me. I have dreams about him, the scent of his cologne, I still smell it," she said. "If I'm out in public and I smell it or if I see a car that he drove that I was forced to do stuff in, it sends me into a rage. A rage that I can't understand."

The woman asked Yuille to "please don't allow him to see the light of day again or be able to hurt anyone else ever."

Woods said he never beat anyone or forced anyone to take part in any illicit behavior while he was a Flint police officer.

"I'm being sent to prison on unsubstantiated lies and to be murdered by the same people I defended my life to protect society against," he said. "I have definitive proof of my innocence."

But Yuille questioned the sincerity of Woods' comments, saying he used his stature as a police officer "to prey upon those individuals among us who are most vulnerable." He also thanked the victims for stepping forward.

"I hope they realize what they've done is the right thing," he said.

Woods received a little more than two years time served in the case.

He attempted to withdraw his guilty plea prior to the sentencing date, but the request was denied.

His plea agreement includes lifetime registry on the sex offender list, required testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, and lifetime electronic monitoring upon release from prison.

Woman Drops Lawsuit Claiming Trump Raped Her at Age 13

A woman who has sued Donald Trump for raping her when she was 13 years old in 1994 has reportedly dropped her lawsuit. She also earlier canceled a press conference, where she was expected to speak on the allegations, citing “death threats.”

Thomas Francis Meagher, one of the attorneys representing the woman known only under the pseudonym Jane Doe, filed a “voluntary dismissal” notice in district court in New York late Friday.

This is the second child-rape case dismissed against Trump this year. Read into it what you will, but it's curious that the lawyer gave no apparent reason for the dismissal. Jane Doe had attracted several high profile lawyers to her case, but that didn't seem to help.

The civil lawsuit was scheduled for an initial status conference with a New York district court on December 16.

Trump was hit with the lawsuit in June, when Doe accused the GOP nominee and Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire sex offender, of sexually assaulting her at parties held at Epstein’s mansion.

She filed a similar lawsuit in California in April, asking for $100 million in damages, but it was dismissed for technical filing errors. She then filed her complaint in New York.

The woman claimed she attended the events because she was pursuing a modeling career at the time and was promised this would be helpful.

Doe said in her New York lawsuit that Trump tied her to the bed and raped her, despite her pleas for him to stop. She claimed that Trump struck her in the face with an open hand and screamed “that he would do whatever he wanted.” Epstein, she said, raped her twice.

The two then made threats to her and her family, if she was to tell anyone about them, Doe said. 

Details in this case have been kept secret, but Doe was expected to drop the veil this week at a public meeting in Los Angeles. She was supposed to reveal her real identity to the press on Thursday, but the meeting was canceled abruptly.

“Jane Doe has received numerous threats today, as have all the Trump accusers that I have represented. She has decided she is too afraid to show her face. She has been here all day, ready to do it, but unfortunately she is in terrible fear,” Doe’s attorney Lisa Bloom said in a statement, promising to reschedule the meeting.

Bloom’s mother Gloria Allred, also an attorney, is currently representing several women who have accused Trump of sexual assaults.

Events that Doe described in her lawsuits have also been brought up in a complaint from another person.

Coinciding with Doe, an alleged woman named Katie Johnson also filed her lawsuit against both Trump and Epstein in California in April. She accused them of making her their “sex slave,” but like Doe’s, her case was dismissed in May.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has denied Doe’s accusations as well as claims made by other women.

Real or Not, Clown Threats are Bizarre and Disturbing

Four teenagers in Georgia have been charged with making “terrorist threats” after allegedly posting Facebook messages threatening to abduct children while dressed as clowns.

The arrests come in the wake of a craze of creepy clown sightings that have spread fear amongst children and parents alike, and prompted police to establish if any real threat exists amidst the hoaxes. Reported sightings also sparked a spate of school closures.

La Grange police were inundated with calls from concerned parents after a Facebook page, which has since been removed, included threats to dress like a clown and drive around in a white van to nearby schools and abduct children.

Two 18 year olds from Georgia, Steven Goddard and Zaria Dallas, and 17-year-old Tristian Bonner from Alabama were arrested for terroristic threats, according to WXIA. A 16 year old was arrested for terroristic threats and disrupting public schools in relation to the threats.

A series of bizarre and threatening clown sightings have been reported in recent weeks, predominantly in the southeastern states of Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and North and South Carolina.

The spate of sightings kicked off at the end of August after it was reported people dressed as clowns were trying to lure children into the woods in South Carolina. Police have warned they will prosecute people behind the Facebook pages and hoax sightings.

An 11-year-old girl was arrested at a school in Athens, Georgia, on Friday for carrying a knife. She told police she needed the weapon to protect herself and her family against the clowns.

Last week, a school in Flomaton, Alabama, was put on a ‘soft lockdown’ after some high school students received threatening messages from a ‘Flomo Klown’ Facebook page.

Police later arrested Makayla Smith, 22, along with two juveniles who were reportedly connected to the page.

Shortly afterwards, another Facebook page named ‘Bingerman Clownferd’ emerged which carried threats to target schools in the Montgomery area.

Meanwhile, Troy Police Department in Alabama said Monday that two teens were arrested in connection with a similar page. No charges were filed but the related Facebook page was removed.

Police say they have been inundated with reports of clown sightings but, in most cases haven’t been able to find the perpetrators. A large number of alleged sightings are believed to be hoax calls.

In Georgia, two people in their 20s were arrested after allegedly making false 911 calls of clown sightings in Hogansville, a city close to La Grange. In Maryland, Annapolis police confirmed Tuesday that reports of clown sightings in the area were made up by children.

Suspicious clowns were also allegedly spotted in Kentucky, with photos emerging on Facebook of apparent sightings.

Whether or not these threats are real, and I'm pretty sure nearly all of them are not, the MO can be copied by real pedophiles who are not above anything that will satisfy their perversion. Consequently, it has to be stopped and stopped quickly. I applaud the police forces for taking this seriously.

Child Abuse Royal Commission: Children Lived in Fear of Yoga Ashram Leader

Don't think this is a one-off. There are reports of child sex abuse from several ashrams in Australia as well as in India.

When allegations of child abuse emerged at Australia's oldest yoga ashram, the main concern from its spiritual headquarters in India was protecting its reputation, a royal commission has found.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has examined the handling of complaints made against the former spiritual leader of the Satyananda Yoga Ashram, at Mangrove Mountain on the New South Wales Central Coast, Swami Akhandananda Saraswati, and his former partner Shishy.

The allegations were made over a period of 40 years and related to sexual abuse that occurred in the 1970s and 1980s.

During public hearings in October 2014, six survivors each called for a $1 million compensation payment.

They gave graphic accounts of abuse at the ashram, which housed between 12 and 22 children at any time, aged between four and 18.

The commissioner's report was critical of the ashram's management.

"During the public hearing, the Mangrove ashram invited requests for compensation from some, but not all, of the survivors of child sexual abuse ... This apparent distinction between survivors remained unexplained at the close of the public hearing," the report said.

"We consider that the Mangrove ashram ... in direct contrast with the sentiments expressed in the ashram's apology ... adopted an approach that was at times insensitive, defensive and legalistic."

Children developed 'cult-like' dependence

The report found children were routinely separated from their families and developed a "cult-like dependence" on Shishy, "who clearly played a significant role in their lives in the absence of their parents".

During the hearing, Shishy said "blind devotion" to the guru was "heavily encouraged, and this involved being obedient without question".

The report said: "Mangrove ashram ultimately culminated in a complete and unquestioning trust by both adults and children alike in the erratic and irrational actions ... of Akhandananda as the guru."

The royal commission heard some victims were threatened with murder if they reported the abuse, and that Shishy witnessed Akhandananda raping two girls.

The commissioners Justice Jennifer Coate and Professor Helen Milroy accepted Shishy was herself in a violent relationship with Akhandananda, "and this came to include sexual violence".

"Shishy said this included Akhandananda putting a gun in her vagina and cutting her vagina with nail scissors."


Violence created a culture of fear

"It is clear that the culture of violence and humiliation that Akhandananda fostered at the Mangrove ashram gave the children who lived there a fear of reprimand that prevented them from disclosing their sexual abuse," the report said.

"The fact that Akhandananda's violent discipline of adults and children alike was not challenged by any other adult in the ashram who gave evidence only served to fortify the children's fear of reprimand.

"We heard evidence of threats of significant harm, including death ... We heard evidence of grown men being beaten with a stick in front of adult onlookers.

"We also heard considerable evidence of beatings of children.

"We are satisfied that the physical abuse that the children experienced or witnessed contributed to a culture of fear of Akhandananda that prevented children from disclosing their sexual abuse."


Global headquarters feared for its reputation

The Bihar School of Yoga, which is the global headquarters of the late Swami Satyananda Saraswati's teachings, provided a statement to the commission in 2014 and said it "did not know the appalling extent of the abuse nor how widespread it was".

The royal commission was also shown an email from the organisation to the ashram that expressed outrage at the current leader being linked to the investigation of "20 year old sex scandals" that would "tarnish his reputation".

"After a lifetime in support of Australia, Swami Niranjan and Bihar School of Yoga, in disgust, withdraw their association and support completely," it read.

The commissioners said: "When those responsible for management of the Bihar School of Yoga first heard about the royal commission's investigation of the sexual abuse of children by Akhandananda, their primary concern was to minimise the risk of damaging the reputation of Satyananda yoga."

"The Bihar School of Yoga's response did not properly prioritise the welfare of survivors over the interests of the 'brand' of Satyananda yoga."

The ashram is now called Mangrove Yoga, having previously traded as the Satyananda Yoga Academy.

The commission said the case study would help identify the potential problems with power imbalances involving a charismatic leader at an isolated institution; the isolation of children from their parents and the community, and meeting the needs of survivors of child sexual abuse.

Thousands of young girls are being groomed for sex in Rotherham on an “industrial scale,” but abuse victims say authorities have failed to get the situation under control for years, Express.co.uk has disclosed in a special investigation.

The men are mainly from Mirpur, a city in the Kashmir region on the border between Pakistan and India.

The situation came into the public spotlight after a chilling 2014 report by Professor Alexis Jay showed that at least 1,400 girls had been peddled for sex by Kashmiri gangs between 1997 and 2013, while police ignored many reports of abuse out of fear of being branded as racist.

However, a more recent report published by Professor John Drew in March said that the authorities had managed to deal with the situation, claiming that police were “adequately” coping with child grooming and failures were “isolated.”

Nevertheless, Express.co.uk spoke with activists, locals, and victims of abuse and discovered that the plight of many young girls in Rotherham is still the same.

“I know a few girls who have come forward recently and been told they are being racist and I know a lot that won’t come forward and to be fair I can’t blame them. Nothing has changed, not in the slightest. It’s still the same scale as before,” a girl identified as Lizzie, said.

“raping of white girls by these men is still going on.”

You hear about new girls being abused “on a daily basis,” she added.

Another victim called Ellie told Express.co.uk that “raping of white girls by these men is still going on.”

“Some, I know, have had to wait months before they’re even asked to give a statement [to the police]. It’s shockingly bad still,” she added.

An investigation dubbed Operation Stovewood is currently looking into over 7,000 lines of inquiry. However, the victims say they have seen little result from these efforts.

“What have the National Crime Agency been doing for the last 18 months with their 10 million pounds? No arrests yet? We’re feeling desperate and disheartened,” Ellie said.

Locals have stopped relying on police in these matters, she added, saying that she “wouldn’t advise people to go to the police because they don’t do anything. I’d rather take it into my own hands.”

    The town of Rotherham has a population of a little more than a quarter million people

There is other evidence supporting her statement: a father of a girl who was raped by the gangs told Express.co.uk that Kashmiri men from the same circle as her abuser appear outside their home and still intimidate the family.

“Every night for 13 nights out of 14 between midnight and 1 a.m. we had people coming and knocking on the door saying it was takeaways. We don’t really eat takeaways, and when we looked through the spy hole they had no food and you could see a car full of Asians.”

 ‘you white bastards, don’t think your daughter is safe,’

In another incident, they were going past a BMW parked near their house, and “heard them saying something, but we just ignored it. We got across the road and all of a sudden we started hearing this abuse ‘you white bastards, don’t think your daughter is safe,’ things of that nature.”

Then, “this big Pakistani guy with a shaven head – he was wearing some sort of robes – put his arm out of the car window and he was waving a tin of lighter fuel shouting ‘we will see, we will see.’”

“These groomers, these pedophiles are still running this town and the police are still doing what they were doing back in the day – nothing. Children in this town are at risk now and it’s appalling.”

Human rights activist support the victims, saying that the sex grooming is still happening “on an industrial scale.”

Campaigner Anne Marie Waters, who conducted her own probe into the Rotherham sex attacks, said the child grooming is still thriving, adding that many victims are “too scared” to speak out.

“Everyone I spoke to agreed on the fact that it’s still going on whether it was child abuse victims, police, councillors – nothing has changed.”

Lawyer David Greenwood, who has represented dozens of girls abused by the gangs, said six “splinter groups” of pedophiles now exist in Rotherham.

Locals say they see it all the time as well. A Rotherham resident told Express.co.uk that he often spotted cars with abusers driving around, adding that they sometimes pretend to be taxi drivers and attempt to pick up schoolgirls.

The man, who is a former university teacher, said he was “furious” about the situation, stressing that the abuse is “rampant.”

“I’ve seen the young men and they are like dogs in heat outside the house, they won’t go away. They are outside a white girl’s house, the kid is screaming in the kitchen, the men want to get in and screw her but the police aren’t interested.”

Local police responded that they admit that “child sexual exploitation is a pervasive crime that continues to happen within our communities.”

“Protecting children from this horrific abuse is an absolute priority and we are working incredibly hard alongside victims and survivors, local authorities, charities like Barnardo’s and other voluntary organizations to raise awareness of this crime and to understand how we can better identify those at risk,” said the South Yorkshire Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Rachel Barber.

Rotherham Council Leader Cllr Chris Read added, “Tragically there will always be criminals who want to hurt vulnerable young people, and we know children are still being exploited in communities up and down the country, including in Rotherham.”

Though he acknowledged that there used to be a “serious failing in Rotherham,” he maintained that today the situation is different.

“We have heard from victims and survivors who have directly informed our response – we are listening, and taking action alongside the police and other partners to keep young people safe, to disrupt offenders and to secure justice.”

The official data from South Yorkshire Police shows that 161 offences of the sort have been registered since last April, and 40 people have been charged with child sex offences. There are currently 99 ongoing probes.
