Unless our hearts are filled with pain for the state of our world, we have not begun to sense the heart of God. Charles Price - Living Truth.
The above is the first entry in a new column titled Great Quotes. This one is so profound that it deserves to be looked at more closely.
Charles Price is the head pastor at The People's Church in Toronto, Canada, and also the face of Living Truth Ministries which is available on TV in several countries, in several languages, and on the internet. Price is one of the best teachers of the Bible around today, and one of the few that I will listen to.
The heart of God is a huge subject to study. Unlike us, He experiences many emotions at the same time. He laughs - even plays jokes on people - I have several stories but you will have to wait for me to finish my book. Of course, love is His primary emotion, but He also gets angry, disappointed, and suffers great agony when women and children are badly abused.
Unfortunately, thousands of women and children are sexually abused every moment of the day, so the agony is powerful and constant as He is aware of every bit of suffering that every woman or child endures. The Lord also agonizes over the lack of interest of western Christians in helping these people. He is surely mystified by the lack of compassion we have for the suffering and the hungry people of the world when we have so much.
He must certainly be angry when Christians spend their energy fighting political battles when they are losing the spiritual war. How utterly unChrist-like we western Christians are.
What can we do? We can start praying for real. We can start praying my 3:15PM prayer and branch out from there. We can ask the Holy Spirit to guide our prayers. We can pray sincerely for our political enemies. Best of all, we can sit silently in the presence of the Lord and just listen. Listen to His heart; it will radically change your priorities in life.
God bless.
