Global News reported tonight that Saint John, New Brunswick has the highest rate of child sex abuse of any city in Canada. The rate of sex abuse of children in that city is 50% higher than the next highest city. I wonder how many of those child abusers were victims of Ken Estabrooks - see the post immediately below.
It would be an interesting study to see how many of those found to be guilty of molesting children actually were themselves victims of Estabrooks. I wrote about sex abuse being generational in "Solitary" in the May '13 archive.
Consequently, those who are guilty of enabling Estabrooks to continue molesting children unabated, even after they knew about it, well, they have generations of child abuse on their heads. I would love to see charges against those involved, but most are likely very old if still alive, and, only about 5% of molestations actually get reported.
However, they will receive their just rewards when they stand before Jesus on the Day of Reckoning. We should be praying for their forgiveness and salvation, but it is really hard to do. It means we have to forgive them first. I would prefer to forgive them after having taken a baseball bat to them, but that's not very mature, is it?
Jesus told us we have to love our enemies - now there's a challenge! The only way I have found to do that is to pray for God to meet their spiritual and emotional needs. Genuine prayer specifically for them.
