Alaska education employee charged with child sex abuse, pornography

A former Anchorage Educational Services employee was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of sexually abusing a minor as well as possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to Anchorage Police, Evan Vance Fischer, 35, was employed by Frontier Tutoring, an organization that provides educational services to students in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. Fischer worked directly with children, said APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.

A spokesman for Frontier Tutoring confirmed that Fischer's employment had been terminated.

Anchorage police say the investigation began early November, when Fischer sent illicit videos to an undercover APD detective. Police say the videos depicted the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children.

On Dec. 9, police obtained a search warrant for Fischer’s residence near Meadow Street in Anchorage. Computers and digital media were seized from the residence and are being examined by the cyber crimes forensic lab, police said.

Fischer is currently being charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, six counts of distribution of child pornography, and three counts of possession of child pornography. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues, police said.

Police say one local victim has been identified and believe there may be additional victims.

"Our primary concern right now is just getting the information out there and seeing if there are any additional victims here locally or even out of state in this case as we found evidence that there could potentially be victims located out of state," said APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact APD’s cyber crimes unit at (907) 786-8500.

Winston-Salem church youth leader faces new child sex abuse charges

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — A Winston-Salem man is facing new charges after a second victim has come forward claiming that he was molested by the church youth leader between 1992 and 1995.

Robert Allen Shutt, 70, of 3453 Royalton St. in Winston-Salem, was charged with 12 counts of indecent liberties with a minor on Dec. 11.

According to detectives with the Winston-Salem Police Department, the new charges stem from a report filed on Nov. 4 by a victim who claims that Shutt molested him when he was between 12 and 15 years old.

Shutt was previously arrested on Aug. 20 and charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a minor. That investigation involved a different male juvenile who was also a member of the same church youth group.

Shutt was placed in the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2016.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into this matter. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800.

Florida man convicted, sentenced to life in prison for child sex abuse

By Daily News Staff, Naples, Florida

An Immokalee man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday immediately after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl in March.

Jurors deliberated for a half-hour in the case of Tomas Gomez-Cornejo, 37, before returning their verdict on one count of sexual battery involving a child younger than 12. The charge carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Investigators said the victim told her mother that Gomez-Cornejo came into her room, locked the door behind him and had her perform a sex act on him. The mother immediately reported the account to investigators.

In an interview with deputies, Gomez-Cornejo said he was in the bathroom when the girl came in and made contact with his genitals for five to six seconds, according to an arrest report. When asked what he did as it happened, Gomez-Cornejo replied, "Nothing," the report said.

The girl's relation to Gomez-Cornejo is being withheld to protect the identity of a sexual abuse victim.
