South Carolina man sentenced to 20 years in child sex abuse case from Aiken County
By Maayan Schechter An Aiken County jury this week found an Augusta man guilty of criminal sexual conduct with a child.
Robert Lee Reeves, 46, listed as from Augusta in a police report, was found guilty Wednesday of one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
His trial started Tuesday, where the female victim testified Reeves had sexual intercourse with her multiple times when she was 15 years old, Assistant Solicitor Ashley Hammack said.
A judge ordered Reeves to 20 years in prison in Columbia, and once his sentence ends he must register as a sex offender, Hammack said.
Hammack said Reeves was living in the Aiken County area at the time, and during the course of the abuse, the victim testified Reeves' girlfriend walked in and caught them. However, the girlfriend testified on behalf of Reeves in court and said she didn't see anything, Hammack said.
The victim told the court the abuse started during the summer of 2012, though Reeves wasn't arrested until March 3, 2015.
"She reported it a year later to a family friend, then law enforcement began investigating, and they just tried to be really thorough and collect as much evidence as they could before charging," Hammack said.
According to a police report provided by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded in 2013 to the headquarters of North Augusta Department of Public Safety and met with the victim, who "advised she had been raped" several times in 2015.
The victim told police she had been taken to the incident location several different times throughout that year where she was abused, the report said.

New Jersey man gets 46 years for child sex abuse
Carly Q. Romalino WOODBURY, NJ - A South Jersey man must serve at last 39 years in prison on a 46-year sentence for sexually assaulting a child, a judge determined Thursday.
Christian Powell, 52, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker on 22 counts of sexual assault and child endangerment, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
Powell was a Toms River resident at the time of his 2015 trial. He was convicted of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter. She was in third-grade — 8 years old — in Riverton when the assaults began, continuing until she was 14 as a Deptford eighth-grader, according to the prosecutor's office. The stepdaughter, now 20, testified in both trials.
Powell must register for Megan's Law and abide by the registry's restrictions upon his release.

Former Texas state child psychiatrist sentenced to 40 years in child sex abuse case
Liz Farmer, Breaking News producerA former state doctor based in Austin was sentenced to 40 years Thursday after being found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault of a child.
Charles Fischer, 64, was accused of abuse by seven men — one of whom was his 7- or 8-year-old neighbor at the time and the rest who were his patients from 2001 to 2005, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
The witnesses who testified showed a range of emotions as they were cross-examined earlier in the month, Ryan Autullo of the Statesman reports. One stormed out of the Travis County courtroom in tears after he said: "I can't do anymore testimony! I'm sorry!"
One man told jurors he was forced to watch Fischer masturbate, and two other men said he raped them.
Fischer was found guilty Wednesday of 13 felony counts, two of which were subsumed by another count for a total of 11, after jurors deliberated for nine hours over two days.
He was convicted of four counts of sexual assault of a child, six counts of indecency of a child by contact and three counts of indecency of a child by exposure, the Statesman reports.
Fischer was fired from Austin State Hospital in 2011 over the allegations, though initially some of the boys and teenagers weren't believed.
