Harrison Keegan, Springfield News-Leaderin child sex abuse case
A Marshfield man is facing 16 possible life sentences following accusations that he sexually abused three different girls for years.
John Comstock III, 39, was charged Tuesday with multiple counts of statutory rape, statutory sodomy and child molestation.
All three alleged victims in the case are younger than 14.
A probable cause statement says the case began on Aug. 28 when one of the victims confided in a teacher that she was being sexually abused.
The girl and two others were then interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center.
The first girl allegedly said Comstock raped her, made her perform sex acts on him and made her perform sex acts on another girl.
The second girl said she was molested by Comstock and forced into sex acts, according to the statement.
The third girl allegedly said she was forced to perform oral sex on Comstock.
Two of the girls allegedly reported that Comstock would wake them up in the middle of the night by shining a flashlight in their faces before sexually abusing them.
Comstock allegedly threatened the girls that if they reported him, he would kill himself.
Comstock is being held in the Webster County Jail on $2 million bond. He does not have an attorney listed for this case.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) -
A 57-year-old Stevens Point man faces new child pornography charges - the third case involving child sex abuse against him in recent months.
Thomas Soik was charged last week with 10 felony counts of possession of child pornography in Portage County. According to a criminal complaint, police believe Soik had at least 60 images of child pornography, including 10 of either young girls or boys involved in nudity and sexual poses.
The images were found on a computer thumb drive found in a desk drawer of Soik's bedroom, the complaint said.
In July, Soik was charged in Marathon County with 11 counts of possession of child pornography.
About a year ago in Marathon County, Soik was charged with two felonies - using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and child enticement involving sexual contact - after he responded to a Craigslist advertisement in the "casual encounters" section to meet a 15-year-old boy in Wausau who was really an undercover police officer.
According to prosecutors, Soik asked “Dylan” for explicit photos and detailed what he wanted to do when they met.
The police sting led to searches of Soik property in Marathon and Portage counties.

More molestation charges filed against
former Texas gymnastics coach
BY DOMINGO RAMIREZ JR. ramirez@star-telegram.com
FORT WORTH
An ex-coach at Sokol Gymnastics in Fort Worth charged last month with child sexual abuse had more charges filed against him involving girls in Oklahoma.
Skipper Glenn Crawley, 51, of Kemp, was charged on Wednesday with 10 counts of lewd molestation involving more than five of his students in the 1990s at Tulsa World of Gymnastics.
Crawley was arrested last month near Indianapolis on the Fort Worth charges. He was later extradited to Fort Worth.
Crawley is accused of putting his hand under the clothing of the girls in Tulsa and touching them under the guise of helping them stretch, according to KOTV-TV in Tulsa.
Those girls who are now women in their 30s came forward after they learned Crawley was charged with molesting girls in Fort Worth. Prosecutors were able to file charges in Tulsa because Oklahoma law allows reported victims until the age of 45 to come forward with molestation allegations, according to the news reports.
The girls reported it to Tulsa gymnastics officials in 1997 and Crawley was fired, but the families did not make a police report because they wanted to spare the girls a trial, according to KOTV-TV.
Good grief! So they leave dozens, if not hundreds of unsuspecting girls at risk?
In Fort Worth, Crawley, also known as “Skip,” is accused of sexually abusing several young gymnasts who were members of the same team.
The Fort Worth allegations were made in April, and authorities at the school immediately notified Fort Worth police and USA Gymnastics, the national governing body for the sport, which suspended Crawley.
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of sex abuse of a child in the Fort Worth cases, according to Tarrant County criminal court records. The offenses occurred in 2017 and 2018.
Crawley was a former gymnast at Richland High School and was inducted into the Birdville ISD Sports Hall of Fame in October 2016, according to a post shared on the BISD high school gymnastics Facebook page.
He also was a gymnast at the University of Oklahoma, according to news reports.
Crawley was in the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $175,000 bail.
Ex-USA Gymnastics Trainer Arrested In Texas
On Sex Assault Charge
Camila Domonoske Debbie Van Horn, a former trainer with USA Gymnastics who worked with disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, has been arrested in Texas and charged with one count of sexual assault of a child.
Van Horn and Nassar worked together at Karolyi Ranch, the former USA Gymnastics training facility outside of Huntsville, Texas.
Van Horn, who was indicted in June, was arrested Thursday at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to a statement from the Walker County District Attorney's office. Van Horn was arriving on a flight from China, the statement says.
A lawyer for Van Horn told multiple media outlets that Van Horn returned willingly to clear her name. The lawyer described Van Horn's reputation as "impeccable."
According to county records, Van Horn was booked into the Walker County Jail on Thursday and held on $20,000 bail.
She's due to appear in court on Sept. 24, according to prosecutors.
The Associated Press reports that Van Horn worked with USA Gymnastics for 30 years. She was involved with caring for 8- to 10-year-old athletes, worked with a youth development camp, and was a member of the USA Gymnastics Medical Task Force. That group was founded in 2013 "to provide leadership and oversight of USA Gymnastics' practices, procedures and protocols regarding athlete care," the news service reports.
Nassar also faces charges in Texas for alleged assaults at Karolyi Ranch; he was indicted in June, at the same time as Van Horn, on six counts of assault.
Nassar is currently in federal prison in Florida, serving a 60-year sentence for possession of child pornography. He has also been ordered to serve two sentences in state prison in Michigan, each of which is at least 40 years long.
Walker County prosecutors interviewed Bela and Martha Karolyi, the owners of the training facility where Nassar and Van Horn allegedly assaulted gymnasts, and opted not to file any charges against them, as CNN reported earlier this summer.
Meanwhile, the leadership of USA Gymnastics continues to be in a state of chaos.
The entire board resigned in January. Late last month, a coach who had defended Nassar was promoted to elite development coordinator and then promptly asked to resign.
And just days ago, USA Gymnastics' president and CEO, Kerry Perry, stepped down after just 10 months on the job.

Olivia Munn willing to put career on the line over 'The Predator' sex offender controversy

Olivia Munn is willing to risk her career to continue to speak out against bad behaviour in Hollywood after discovering a registered sex offender featured in her new movie The Predator.
The actress shared a small scene with Steven Wilder Striegel in his director pal Shane Black’s sci-fi film, but Munn only discovered last month that he had served time behind bars after he was accused of trying to coax a 14-year-old girl into a sexual relationship over the Internet in 2010.
She brought the news to Twentieth Century Fox studio bosses’ attention and they ended up cutting his scene from the finished movie.
The controversy was made public on Thursday in a Los Angeles Times article, which detailed the allegations made against Striegel, who spent six months in jail after pleading guilty to felony charges of risk of injury to a child and enticing a minor by computer.
Munn admitted she found it “both surprising and unsettling” that Black had failed to notify cast and crew about Striegel’s criminal history, but the filmmaker initially defended the convicted felon’s casting, insisting he just wanted to help out a friend, who he believed had been “caught up in a bad situation”.
However, after reading through email correspondence between Striegel and the teenager, published as part of the Times piece, he issued an apology, claiming he had been “misled” over the seriousness of the charges.
Munn has since addressed the scandal in a series of new Twitter messages, including a response to one comment from her former The Newsroom co-star Thomas Sadoski, who had shared a link to the article in question and applauded the actress for speaking out.
“My friend @oliviamunn has courage and integrity to **** spare,” he captioned the post.
Thanking him for the kind words, Munn replied, “@ThomasSadoski Your support means so much. It’s amazing how many people expect you to put the movie first, especially if you’re the lead.”
“On something like this- where a child has been hurt- my silence will never be for sale,” she defiantly added. “And if it costs me my career they can take it.”
Munn also responded to a follower who questioned why she was still promoting The Predator in light of the scandal.
“I’m contractually obligated,” she wrote. “And from what I’m experiencing, I think they’d (critics) prefer I not show up. It would make everyone breathe easier. Also, I worked really hard on this film, as did the rest of the cast and crew. Now that the scene is deleted I think audiences will love it.”
Munn, who previously accused filmmaker Brett Ratner of sexual harassment, also urged others aware of inappropriate behaviour to do what they can to put a stop to it.
“The #MeToo movement (against sexual misconduct) called out abusers. But they’re not the only ones in the wrong,” she shared in another tweet. “Those who know about abuse and not only do nothing but continue to put abusers in positions of power are complicit.”
The Predator, which also stars Boyd Holbrook and Sterling K. Brown, is due to open in theatres next week.

Man facing child sex abuse charge in Alabama
granted out-of-state travel
By Neal Wagner
COLUMBIANA – A 26-year-old Houston, Texas, man who is facing allegations of child sex abuse will be allowed to travel back to Texas while awaiting the conclusion of his case in Shelby County after a judge agreed to modify the conditions of his bond in late August.
Shelby County District Court Judge Daniel Crowson granted a leave of court request from attorneys for Donald Lee Lamp on Aug. 30, allowing Lamp to travel out of state. The original conditions of Lamp’s bond did not allow out-of-state travel.
The Alabaster Police Department arrested Lamp, who lists an address on Stonehaven Drive in Houston, on Aug. 28 and charged him with one felony count of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.
The charge was tied to a June 27 incident, during which Lamp allegedly asked the victim to “pull and squeeze on a hangy thing in his pants,” according to his arrest warrant.

Sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony, meaning Lamp could face up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted of the crime.
Lamp was released from the Shelby County Jail the same day he was arrested after posting the $30,000 bond, and a condition of his bond requires him to remain in Alabama.
On Aug. 29, Lamp’s attorney filed the request to allow Lamp to travel back to Texas while awaiting the conclusion of his case, writing Lamp “is disabled and has the need during the pendency of this case to travel home for health, family and therapy needs in Texas,” and claimed Lamp “is not a flight risk.”
Lamp is set to appear in court on Sept. 20 for a preliminary hearing.
