Man arrested on weapons charges last week now facing child sexual assault allegations in Utah

The teen said he has sexually assaulted her multiple times
from age 12 to 15
Jenn Gardiner

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) - A man arrested Thursday on weapons violations is now facing new felony child sex abuse charges after a girl came forward and said he has been sexually assaulting her for years, according to police.

Arresting documents state the victim told police Reynolds (for some reason the first name is not mentioned in this unfortunate report) sexually abused her multiple times between the ages of 12 and 15. Two of the incidents happened at the "H" hill just East of Hurricane, and three incidents happened at her house in Hurricane. She also said there were other incidents but she could only remember vague details.

The girl said during the two times up the hill, Reynolds would pick her up, take her to Dairy Queen to get something to eat or ice cream then take her up to the "H" and park. She said he would pull her shirt down and would stick his tongue in her ear while sexually assaulting her, documents state.

On another occasion, Reynolds came over to her home when her mom was gone and sexually assaulted her, according to documents.

She said she pretended to be asleep because she knew what was going to happen and with her small frame she wasn't going to be able to do much against him, documents state.

The girl said she didn't say anything because she knew what he was capable of, meaning he had taught her to shoot guns, how to fight back, make bombs and how to stab, cut and do the most damage to someone, according to documents.

Court documents state another assault happened when they were upstairs and she was laying on the couch watching a kids TV show. She said he put his hands in her shorts and sexually assaulted her.

She said her grandma was home a the time and when she was out of the room, he would assault her but when she returned, he would stop, documents state.

The girl told police she told him to stop and she was uncomfortable but when she told him no, he got angry.

When officers arrived at the jail to interview Reynolds, who had been arrested the day before on weapons charges, he invoked his rights to an attorney when they asked if he knew the girl.

Reynolds is facing two first-degree felony counts of object rape of a child, one count first-degree felony aggravated forcible sexual abuse of a child and two second-degree counts of forcible sexual abuse of a child.

Reynolds weapons charges stem from a search warrant issued on his home on Thursday. Deputies assisted Homeland Security investigators after discovering he had ordered a full automatic selector switch for a Glock, which is considered an unregistered machine gun.

Documents state Reynolds is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a dangerous weapon. Reynolds also has previous charges for possession of an incendiary device that was dismissed in 2004 for evidence issues.

In Reynold's truck, they located an ankle holster on the driver's side floorboard and a Glock 19 handgun in a compartment in the headrest, according to documents. Police said the firearm was loaded with a round in the chamber.

Documents state while at Reynold's home, police located three large knives (4-6 inch blades) in the bedroom.

Reynolds was booked into jail on four felony charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and one misdemeanor charge of having a loaded weapon in his vehicle.

Police said there were other seizures made during the search and additional weapons charges are expected. Reynolds was convicted in federal court for felony possession of an unregistered destructive device in 2005.

Warrant issued for Utah man for sexual abuse of teen
By Pat Reavy, KSL

SALT LAKE CITY — A $1 million arrest warrant was issued Monday for a man accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy.

Michael Steven King, 25, of West Valley City, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with five counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony; and witness tampering, a third-degree felony.

On April 22, a man walked into his 13-year-old son's room and found King engaging in sexual acts with the boy, according to charging documents. When interviewed by police, the boy said King had been engaging in sexual activity with him "almost every day" since October, when the boy was 12, the charges state.

King had a protective order served on him on April 28, according to a Salt Lake County Jail booking report. But the next day, he "sent several messages to the victim on a gaming server called Roblox," the report states. One of the messages stated, "Please don't tell," according to charging documents.

Former Alabama police sergeant gets 20 years
in prison for sex with teen boy in police cruiser

By Carol Robinson | crobinson@al.com

A former Oneonta police sergeant was sentenced to prison Monday on multiple sex crimes involving a teen boy.

Nicholas “Shane” Osborn, 40, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on convictions for electronic solicitation of a child and second-degree sodomy. He also was sentenced to 10 years for enticing a child for immoral purposes and one year for reckless endangerment. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Osborn pleaded guilty in March. He was initially arrested in 2017 (5th story on link), first on a DUI charge and four months later on a six-count indictment charging him with electronic solicitation of a minor, enticing a child for immoral purposes, two counts of second-degree sodomy, second-degree sexual abuse and reckless endangerment.

He had been with the Oneonta Police Department since 2001 at the time of his arrest.

As the case was set to go to trial in March, Osborn entered a blind plea to electronic solicitation of a child, second-degree sodomy, reckless endangerment, and enticing a child for immoral purposes. According to court documents, Osborne met a 15-year-old boy on the internet via the Grinder App in May 2017. Later that evening, Osborne met the boy while Osborne was on duty and drove him to a church parking lot in Osborn’s police cruiser where Osborn engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with the minor child.

In September 2017, the incident was referred to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for investigation. SBI Agent Justin Kinney was in charge of the investigation.

Following Monday’s sentencing, Osborn’s bond was revoked, and he was remanded into the custody of the Blount County Jail pending transfer to state prison. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a convicted sex offender.

Cullman County Circuit Judge Greg Nicholas was appointed to preside over the case. Blount County Assistant District Attorney Scott Gilliland prior to sentencing asked that Osborn be sentenced to 51 years on the crimes. Gilliland asked the court to consider the nature of the offenses, the abuse of the power and authority of a police officer to exploit a child and the use of public assets to prey upon the child. He also pointed out the danger to the health and safety of the public that resulted from Osborn’s reckless behavior.

“Protecting our children remains a top priority for my office,’’ said District Attorney Pamela Casey. “If you perpetrate a crime upon a child, you will be prosecuted.”

“People want to raise children in places like Blount County, so our children can grow up in safe schools and neighborhoods,’’ Casey said. “As a community, we must continue to work together to insure the safety of our children. If you hear something, say something. If you see something, say something.”

Oregon school bus driver suspected of multiple cases of
child abuse turns himself in after 23 years on the run

By JAMES GORDON FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

A man who was suspected of being behind a number of cases of child sex abuse has turned himself in to Oregon police after 23 years on the run.

Wayne Arthur Silsbee, 62, has been wanted since 1996 for the alleged sexual assaults of a number of female victims between the ages of 8 and 10 that he got to know by either babysitting them or 'taking them to various events'.

Silsbee walked in to the Oregon City Police Department on Friday afternoon where he admitted to the assaults.

He was charged with sodomy, sexual abuse, unlawful penetration and endangering the welfare of a child, online jail records show.

The assaults allegedly occurred between September 1995 and April 1996 in Clackamas County, according to the FBI.

A local arrest warrant for Silsbee was filed on July 24, 1996, and the FBI issued a federal arrest warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution on September 19, 1996.

Silsbee is currently being held on $50,000 bail at the Clackamas County jail and will appear in court on Monday afternoon according to ABC News.

The FBI is asking anyone who may have had contact with him in the last 23 years to call the Oregon City tip line.

It's believed he may have lived in several different cities and states over the past two-and-a-half decades including Nebraska, Springfield, Missouri, San Francisco Bay, Colorado, Arizona and the northwest of Washington state

It is unclear why, after 23 years, Silsbee decided to confess his crimes. He is pictured in 2006

While roaming around the country, Silsbee took on a number of jobs - one of which saw him encounter children every day in his role as a school bus driver.

He has also worked as a security guard, tax preparer and warehouseman along with several temp agencies.

The FBI also revealed that Silsbee has long shown an interest in nudist activities and had a membership in the American Sunbathing Association.

The FBI who put out a poster during their search states that SIlsbee is an active member of the Adventist Church.

Authorities are asking for anyone who has had any contact with Silsbee over the past 23 years to call the Oregon City tip line: 503-496-1616.

Child Sex Abuse Trial Of NY Chiropractor
Gets Underway
 Zak Failla

The trial for a Rockland County chiropractor accused of sexually abusing a teenage client for several months has started.

Testimony at the sex abuse trial of South Nyack chiropractor Kristina Wodicka started last week in the Village of South Nyack Justice Court, following claims that she inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl for four months in 2015.

Wodicka, 54, allegedly had sexual contact with her victim, touching her under her shirt and pants. The chiropractor reportedly said that she diagnosed the teenager with a hiatal hernia and placed her hands on pressure points on her upper chest, below her breasts, stomach and around the hips.

The minor, whose name was identified when the trial started on Friday, May 10, reportedly said she was sexually assaulted eight times over the course of five months by Wodicka while being treated.

Wodicka stands charged with eight counts of third-degree sexual assault, three counts of forceful touching and one count of child endangerment, all misdemeanors. Wodicka has vehemently denied the allegations and plan to stand trial. She has continued to practice since the allegations were levied.

If convicted, Wodicka faces a year in jail and will be subjected to registering as a sexual offender. The trial is scheduled to continue this week.

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) — The family of a 12-year-old boy who alleges he was sexually abused by a central Indiana pediatrician has filed a civil lawsuit.

The Indianapolis Star reports the child's parents, identified in court records as Jane Doe and John Doe, are seeking damages from 41-year-old Dr. Jonathon Cavins of Jamestown.

Cavins' attorney in the civil case isn't commenting on the lawsuit, due to pending litigation. Cavins is awaiting trial and now faces accusations from five accusers.

Cavins is charged with child molestation involving a 12-year-old boy and sexual misconduct with a minor involving two other teenage boys. The 12-year-old came forward in February, accusing Cavins of fondling him. In April, a judge approved a motion from prosecutors to add two additional counts of child seduction.

Dentist from Utah charged with child sex abuse of 5 y/o

3rd story from Utah today!!

OREM, Utah, (Gephardt Daily)A former dentist from Orem is facing a charge of aggravated sexual abuse of a child after allegedly trying to teach two young girls “about private body parts.”

According to charging documents, Clark Crookston, 70, was charged in the Fourth District Court in Utah County on April 30 for the first-degree felony charge, as well as two counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony, and two counts of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Police said a woman called to report Crookston for behavior concerning her two daughters, who are now 11 and 8.

The 11-year-old told officials that when she was approximately 5, she saw Crookston’s private parts.

“She walked into a changing room while he was naked and he told her he didn’t mind and tried teaching her about it.”

The girl said the suspect had her touch his private parts with her finger, but that she didn’t want to. She she didn’t remember much else about the incident and stated that nothing similar had happened since.

The younger girl also said Crookston “tries to teach her about private body parts and her mother doesn’t like it.” She said Crookston would show her naked pictures of himself or expose himself to her. She also recalled an incident where he had her sit on his lap and he showed her pictures of other men’s private parts. The girl stated that she had never been asked to touch the suspect intimately.

The mother said she confronted Crookston several different times about these events. In 2014, she confronted him about him showing the girls his penis, and he stated “it was a teaching moment and he didn’t want the girls to feel ashamed about it,” the charging documents said. The mother told Crookston not to talk to her children about the subject again.

In 2016, Crookston talked to the woman’s husband and the girls’ father about how the girls needed to be more actively talked to about sex education, the document said. In 2016, the younger girl had told her parents that Crookston had shown her a picture of a penis.

The parents met with Crookston again, and he admitted he had showed the girl a picture, was told by the mother again not to talk to her children about sex, and he agreed.

About six to eight months later, the younger girl mentioned something that again made the parents believe Crookston hadn’t stopped talking to her about sex, the charging documents said. Crookston stated again he was concerned that they weren’t teaching the girls enough about intimate matters and again was instructed not to talk to the girls about that. In February of 2019, the younger girl again confirmed that Crookston had continued to teach her about sex, but “had told her these conversations were OK because they were only reviewing and not teaching new information,” the documents said.

On Feb. 28, the mother and father met with Crookston again. Crookston admitted to having shown his penis to the younger girl after she walked in on him and “showed curiosity.” He stated he let her “take a peek” two to three times recently.

A warrant was executed on Crookston’s computer, where several files were discovered that corroborate the younger girl’s claims. There were several videos of nude men, the charging documents said.

Crookston was booked into the Utah County Jail Thursday, but released on the same day.

A record check for Crookston shows his dental license expired in 2010. Yet, it appears he was practicing this year?

My biggest question is, why did the parents keep taking their children to this man and leaving them alone with him? It makes no sense to me. One incident should be enough to remove the man from your children's lives.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A Floyd County man is facing federal charges of child sex abuse.

Wyoming man facing 20-30 years in prison for
child sex abuse
Tom Morton, Townsquare Media

A Mills man faces up to 30 years imprisonment after entering two guilty pleas and one Alford plea to sexually abusing a girl last year during a change of plea hearing in Natrona County District Court on Friday.

Jonah Decker entered an Alford plea to first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. An Alford plea is a plea in which the accused acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction before a jury, but does not concede that he committed the crime.

Decker, who was born in 1984, also pleaded to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

In exchange for the change of pleas from not guilty, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Taheri proposed a prison term of no more than 20 to 30 years for the count of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and two prison terms to be served concurrently for the two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of minor.

The prosecution also agreed to dismiss six other counts: two other counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and one count of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Judge Kerri Johnson received the plea agreement and ordered a pre-sentence investigation. However, she is not bound by the plea agreement at sentencing.

Conviction of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor is punishable by 25 to 50 years of imprisonment; second-degree sexual abuse of a minor is punishable by up to 20 years of imprisonment; and third-degree sexual abuse of a minor is punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment.

Johnson will set a sentencing date later. Decker, who was represented by attorney Tim Cotton, remains in custody on a $50,000 cash bond, according to court records.

The case started on Dec. 26, when a Casper police officer notified a Mills police detective about a woman who went to the Casper Police department to report the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, according to a police affidavit filed in Natrona County Circuit Court.

The girl said Decker made her sexually touch him the day before and on previous occasions.

The next day, the girl was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Project. She said Decker had been touching her inappropriately since she was in the second grade, according to the affidavit.

The woman who reported the alleged assaults showed the Mills detective and an agent with the Wyoming Department of Family Services texts from Decker, who apologized for doing something saying he was "stupid and drunk."

On Dec. 27, officers executed a search warrant at Decker's residence. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

The Mills Police detective interviewed Decker, who said he had worked in numerous jobs. Decker said he did not initially remember many details because he was drunk during the night of the alleged abuse, but he remembered more as the interview continued.

California church youth leader arrested on
suspicion of child porn, sex crimes

By MARK GOMEZ and ROBERT SALONGA | Bay Area News Group

SARATOGA — A 31-year old Saratoga church youth leader was arrested last week on suspicion of child pornography and related sex acts after three male members of the church reported sharing sexually explicit photos with their mentor when they were underage, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, three men between the ages of 19 and 20 walked into the Saratoga Federated Chuch on Park Place and alleged sexual abuse dating back five years against the church’s youth leader, 31-year old Joseph Silva Jr. of Campbell, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s detectives responded to the church and contacted Silva Jr. the same day. According to investigators, Silva reportedly disclosed “that he sent, requested and received explicit photos of his genitals and photos of the victim’s genitals via text message and social media with all of the victims.”

Within three hours of the initial report, Silva was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of possession and distribution of child pornography, lewd acts, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sexual battery.

Silva was released on $124,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court July 8. His booking photo was withheld from public release by the sheriff’s office. This news organization could not reach Silva for comment.

The three men who made the allegations were juveniles at the time of the allegations, and investigators say they have identified a fourth victim between the ages of 15 and 17, as well as “two other potential juvenile victims.”

In a statement, Saratoga Federated Church leaders stressed that they alerted authorities as soon as the allegations were reported but deferred to law enforcement for further inquiries about the case, including how long Silva worked at the church, which has not been publicly released.

“Abuse of anyone is never tolerated,” reads the statement, written by Jerry Bruce, minister of church operations. “Our church has and will continue to encourage any potential victim to come forward.”

Silva works as a teacher at a Mandarin Immersion Program that is hosted at the West Valley Presbyterian Church in Cupertino, according to the Sheriff’s Office. That church did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The case is remains under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office said detectives are working closely with church officials. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 408-808-4500 or the agency’s investigative services anonymous tip line at 408-808-4431.

Texas teacher and grandmother indicted for
child sexual abuse
Pennylynn Webb

A Grapeland elementary school teacher has been indicted on charges of sexually abusing a child under 14.

Melissa Singer, 45, who taught fourth- and fifth-grade math at Grapeland Elementary School, was arrested based on allegations made to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office in October. She was indicted by an Anderson County Grand Jury on May 1.

In a statement, Grapeland Superintendent Don Jackson said: “I want to … assure the community that the safety and welfare of our students is and will always be my top priority. I thank the Grapeland community for continuing to respect the privacy of the young person involved in this situation.”

Singer had taught at the school for three years.

If convicted on the first-degree felony, Singer faces a 25-year-to-life sentence.

Texas law stipulates this offense covers perpetrators 17 and older committing multiple acts of sexual abuse, over 30 days or longer, to a child 14 and younger.

Capt. Ginger Lively of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said the alleged abuse occurred in the Slocum area; Lively would not confirm if the victim was a family member or a student known to Singer.

Singer, married to Leo Singer for 17 years, is a mom and teacher. She has five children and three granddaughters.

In a statement to the media at the time of her arrest, Grapeland Independent School District Don Jackson said the district believes Singer's arrest for ongoing sexual abuse represents an “isolated situation.”

Singer was suspended with pay when arrested.

In April, board members of the Grapeland Independent School District adjourned to closed session to discuss the superintendent’s recommendation for non-renewal of Singer's contract. Board members approved the non-renewal, 7-0.

Singer has been out on bond since her initial arrest. She will be arraigned and go through a series of pre-trial appearances before going to trial, which may take up to two years.

Anyone with additional information should report it to law enforcement.

Oklahoma Man Jailed On Child Sexual Abuse Charge

By:  Patti Weaver, KYSH

(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man — who pleaded guilty 12 years ago to swinging a screwdriver at a woman’s head in an attempt to stab her — has been charged with forcing a 12-year-old girl to perform oral sex and submit to intercourse with him during April in Stillwater.

If convicted of child sexual abuse, Abdias Martinez-Perez, 34, could be given as much as a life prison term. He was arraigned last week from the Payne County Jail where he remains held on $55,000 total bail pending a June 3 court appearance on his current and prior charges.

In his previous case, Martinez-Perez was placed on five years’ probation for assault with a dangerous weapon, which the prosecution maintains he violated, court records show.

He had been arrested on July 30, 2006 at 3:49 a.m. at Forty North apartment complex in Stillwater after a report of a fight in progress with weapons, court records show.

A woman told Stillwater Police Officer Jeremy Rager that she saw two Hispanic males and two black males fighting in the apartment parking lot, an affidavit said. She said that a man, later identified as Martinez-Perez “was swinging a screwdriver wildly trying to stab people with it,” the affidavit said.

She said that she was able to get the two black males to stop fighting, but as they walked toward her apartment, Martinez-Perez came running up behind them with the screwdriver raised as if he was going to stab her and one of the men, the affidavit said.

She said “Martinez swung the screwdriver one time toward her head,” and “she had to move fast to get out of the way of the screwdriver,” the affidavit said.

About 90 minutes later, the officer was sent to the Stillwater Medical Center emergency room where one of the black males was seeking treatment for his injuries, the affidavit said.

“He said he did not want to pursue criminal charges,” the affidavit said. He “had a small puncture wound on the underside of his right wrist that had the resemblance of a Phillips head screwdriver,” the affidavit said.

Well, now we know lots about what happened 12 years ago and very little about his current charges! Good grief!
