Alabama couple convicted of child sex abuse
across Alabama, Texas and Florida

By Lawrence Specker | lspecker@al.com

A federal jury convicted an Alabama husband and wife this week of a slate of charges involving the sexual exploitation of children for years in Alabama, Texas and Florida.

Mack Junturn Doak, 51 was found guilty on six charges of transportation of a minor with intent to engage criminal sexual activity and three charges of crossing a state line with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a child under 12. His wife and co-defendant Jaycee Luom Doak, 41, was found guilty on six charges of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to information released Sunday by the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, the case began in February 2018 when a Monroeville Police Department investigator and a Monroe County Department of Human Resources Caseworker visited three victims, “who disclosed the abuse and indicated that they were unsafe in the defendants’ care.”

State records indicate the Doaks were charged with rape and sexual abuse. It wasn't immediately clear whether they would face state prosecution in the wake of the federal verdict.

During the trial, victims testified that the abuse by Mack Doak had begun in Rosharon, Texas, in 2012. It continued through moves to Butler, Ala., and Pinellas Park, Fla. in 2014; to Thomasville, Ala., in 2016; and finally to Monroeville in 2018. Throughout the six-year period, witnesses testified, Jaycee Doak had been informed of her husband's actions but had discouraged the children from reporting them or otherwise seeking help.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 31. Mack Doak faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison, while Jaycee Doak faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years. Both face the possibility of life in prison.

Investigating agencies included the FBI and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Associate U.S. attorneys Sinan Kalayoglu, Kacey Chappelear and Maria Murphy prosecuted the case.

child sex abuse, child porn charges
By Teta Alim | @teta_alim

An Aspen Hill, Maryland, man was arrested this week after police said he secretly recorded three girls in his home and had child pornography.

Henri Josue Guevara-Chicas, 22, was arrested Thursday morning at his Gaithersburg workplace after a months-long investigation, Montgomery County police said. He has been charged with multiple counts related to sex abuse of a minor and possession of child porn.

The investigation began mid-October 2018, when police said detectives looked into the possible distribution of child porn happening through a computer in Montgomery County. Police found that child porn was being stored and distributed from a computer located in an Aspen Hill home.

On May 1, police executed a search warrant at the address and learned that Guevara-Chicas was a resident of the home. During an interview, police said he acknowledged that there was child porn on his computer. He also made statements connected to the existence of secretly recorded videos of three girls that he made while the girls were in his home, police said.

Police later found a micro SD card with images of the young girls after officers executed a second search warrant of Guevara-Chicas’ home.

Stillwater, OK Man Jailed On $50,000 Bail On
Child Sex Abuse Charge Due In Court
By:  Patti Weaver, KYSH

(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 47-year-old Stillwater man jailed on $50,000 bail has been ordered to appear before a judge Monday on a charge of sexually abusing a young girl in the neighborhood when he took care of her while her mother was running errands.

Richard Byron Abbott could be given a prison term of 25 years to life if convicted of abusing the child between Aug. 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018, when she was 6 years old and 7 years old, court records show.

When Abbott was interviewed by Stillwater Police Detective Sherae LeJeune, “He advised he was a victim of sexual assault as a child and he would not do the same to a child,” an affidavit alleged.

“Richard did admit that he brought (the girl) into his bedroom and closed the door where they were alone. He said he only brought her in his bedroom to ask if his two sons were playing well with her,” the affidavit alleged.

“He did admit that it was inappropriate to seclude (the girl) in his room and close the door, but insisted he did not sexually assault her. He also admitted to wiping (the girl) after she used the restroom because she refused to wipe herself due to sensory issues,” the affidavit alleged.

The alleged sexual abuse of the girl was reported by her mother after she found the then 8-year-old touching herself on Oct. 24, 2018, before going to sleep, the affidavit alleged.

Asked by her mother why she was doing that and if anyone had done that to her, the girl “replied that she was not supposed to talk about it,” the affidavit alleged.

When her mother told her she could tell her anything, the girl “then disclosed that Richard had touched her vagina,” the affidavit alleged.

During a forensic interview at the Saville Center in Stillwater, the girl said, “Richard tells her to come with him into his bedroom where they do ‘stuff,'” the affidavit alleged.

“On one of the occasions he offered her chocolate to get her to go into his bedroom with him. She said he closes the bedroom door. They lie on the bed and talk and he touches her privates,” the affidavit alleged.

“She drew a picture of what she identified as a penis and advised that was what Richard touched her with…Next to her drawing, she drew a frowning face and stated, ‘I should never have let him do that,'” the affidavit alleged.

“She said Richard touched her buttocks on top of her clothes with his penis and told her not to tell anyone because it was a secret. She said the incidents she recalls happened when she was six or seven years old,” during the daytime, the affidavit alleged.

She said “she was unable to tell her mother what happened because she was scared someone would do something and Richard was present when her mother was there,” the affidavit alleged.

Winona High, Winona State soccer coach arrested on
child sexual assault charges in Minnesota
Winona Daily News

A former Winona High and Winona State soccer coach was arrested this week on suspicion of criminal sexual activity with two 14-year-old girls.

Dustin Gary Beckman, 31, of Rochester, was taken into custody Wednesday morning at a residence in rural Winona County. The sheriff’s office is recommending three felony sexual conduct charges. Beckman is scheduled for arraignment in Olmsted County District Court at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Beckman, a Winona native, coached the girls soccer team at Winona Senior High School from 2013-2017, then served as the interim head coach of Winona State in the 2017 season. He also spent several years coaching in the Rochester youth soccer program, and most recently the head girls soccer coach at Dover-Eyota and an assistant for the Rochester Community and Technical College women’s program. His bio on the RCTC website was removed Thursday.

According to a release from Capt. Scott Behrns of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, on March 7, the department’s investigations division looked into allegations of inappropriate touching by Beckman against a 14-year-old female during an offseason soccer training session at Dover-Eyota. The alleged offense occurred in December 2018.

As the investigation progressed, the release said, the sheriff’s office learned of another case in which Beckman is alleged to have had forced sexual contact with another 14-year-old girl from July 2016 through December 2017 — while Beckman was coaching in Winona — at his residence in Rochester. The release said Beckman knew the girl “from soccer related activities.”

Beckman was also coaching with the Rochester youth soccer program at the time.

Behrns told the Rochester Post Bulletin it is “quite possible” there are other victims and he made a public request for them to come forward.

“We are very concerned with the things we found,” he told the Post Bulletin.

There were no complaints filed against Beckman while he was coaching at Winona High or Winona State, according to the schools.

In an email, WAPS superintendent Rich Dahman said the school takes seriously all complaints by students, employees, parents or other persons.

"In any situation, anyone who may have knowledge of alleged misconduct should refer the information for further investigation," Dahman said. "These reports could go to any staff member, who would then refer the report to the school principal or superintendent. Any reports involving possible illegal activities would be referred to law enforcement."

North Carolina man pleads guilty to sex abuse charges
spanning 23 years and 6 children
by Associated Press

BURGAW, N.C. — A North Carolina man has pleaded guilty to charges by police that he sexually abused six children over 23 years.

News sources report District Attorney Ben David says in a news release that 71-year-old Haywood Elwood Garner of Hampstead pleaded guilty this week to multiple charges, including indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sex offense.

According to the news release, Garner sexually assaulted five children between 1993 and 2006. The Pender County Sheriff's Office investigated reports of the assaults, but investigators weren't able to gather enough evidence to pursue charges.

In 2016, authorities identified a sixth child victim. An investigator was able to connect the assaults and find similarities between the victims.

Many of Garner's victims, now in their 30s, attended his sentencing and gave impact statements in court.

I'm confused! Did he have his sentencing hearing? Is sentenced to by imposed at a later date? If he has been sentenced, what was his sentence? Good grief!
