Indianapolis man and woman abused child, sent each other images of their acts
Andrew Clark, Indianapolis Star

An Indianapolis man and woman sexually abused a child younger than 12 years old and sent each other images of the abuse, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Bennie Schuck II and Amber Talley both face federal charges of sexual exploitation of a child, and Schuck faces additional federal charges of distributing child pornography, according to the DOJ.

The child reported that she endured the abuse for more than a year, the DOJ said.

Schuck sent the explicit images to a woman through Kik Messenger, which led to authorities discovering his and Talley's crimes, according to the DOJ.

Both admitted to abusing the child and creating images of the abuse, the DOJ said. Schuck told police he exploited the child "fewer than 20 times."

"People who prey on children and are brazen enough to share evidence of their crimes online must be held accountable," said U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler in a release.

Schuck and Talley both face up to 30 years in prison, the DOJ said.

More Charges Filed in Crystal Lake, IL,
Child Sex Abuse Case
By Amie Schaenzer, Patch Staff

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 23-year-old Crystal Lake man is in custody in a sex abuse case involving three minors, authorities said. An arrest warrant was issued in May for Joshua G. Dancy on aggravated sex abuse charges for allegations he had sex with two minor girls he met over Snapchat, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Dancy was arrested on several warrants on Friday while at a home in McHenry and now faces additional charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a third minor, police said. Authorities said the investigation remains active as more victims are being identified.

The initial victims to come forward reported their relationship with Dancy began in or around November 2018 when he started communicating with the two minor girls over Snapchat, police said. He gained their trust and allegedly got them to send him several sexually-oriented nude images of themselves.

He was arrested on four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, on May 29.

Additional charges of criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and child pornography were filed in recent days after another victim came forward, police said. He is being held at the McHenry County Jail on a $500,000 bail.

Franklin, Tnn, man sentenced 35 years for
child pornography website on DarkNet

Already serving a life sentence for infant sexual abuse
Three other also received long sentences

Brooklyn Dance, Nashville Tennessean

A Franklin man was sentenced to 35 years in prison in connection to a website dedicated to the sexual abuse of children.

Patrick D. Falte, 29, was the creator and lead administrator of the anonymous website the Giftbox Exchange. His charges include three counts of advertising child pornography and three counts of distributing child pornography, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Falte created the Giftbox Exchange in 2015 through Tor, a software that enables anonymous communication, and funded the operation through bitcoin. He also implemented file encryption and cryptography in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.

Users were required to upload photos and video of preteen children being sexually abused before being able to enter the site, the news release said.

“The Giftbox Exchange proved a haven for sophisticated predators to produce and spread deplorable depictions of child sexual abuse,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “These sentences affirm that layers of anonymity on the dark web will not prevent the Department of Justice from identifying and holding accountable those who exploit children.”

The site was shut down in November 2016. At the time, it had more than 72,000 registered users and 56,000 posts. The site was categorized by different types of child pornography and included a sub forum for "Babies and Toddlers."

Faulkner
Three others were also sentenced in connection with Gift Exchange. Benjamin A. Faulkner, 28, of Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Andrew R. Leslie, 24 of Middleburg, Florida, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and Brett A. Bedusek, 35 of Cudahy, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Both Falte and Faulkner were sentenced in Sept. 2017 to life imprisonment in connection with the sexual abuse of a toddler. They traveled to abuse the toddler on multiple occasions, according to the release.

“The sentences imposed on these despicable individuals should insure that they never have another opportunity to abuse another child,” said U.S. Attorney Don Cochran for the Middle District of Tennessee. “With all that we have, we will continue to hunt down the evil and abominable like-minded individuals who delight in abusing children and will bring them to justice.”

Illinois Teacher Convicted Of Sexually Assaulting
Child 'He Knew'

Charges are pending in five cases with similar allegations against Bedoya, involving 11 additional victims

By Rebecca Bream (Hughes), Patch Staff

KANE COUNTY, IL — A former substitute teacher and teacher's aide for Community Unit School District 300 was convicted by a Kane County jury Friday of predatory criminal sexual assault stemming from a case involving a child he knew, according to a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Carlos A. Bedoya, 64, of the 100 block of Acorn Lane, Lake in the Hills, was convicted of eight counts of the class X felony, according to the release. Officials added that charges are pending in five cases with similar allegations against Bedoya, involving 11 additional victims (3rd story on link).

Bedoya, a former youth soccer coach for the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township, is accused of sexually assaulting the victim who was younger than 13 years between August 2015 and June 2016, according to evidence presented by Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Sarah Seberger and Lori Schmidt, the release said. The sexual assault occured in Bedoya's home, at Spring Hill Mall, and at Golfview Elementary School in Carpentersville, where Bedoya was employed, according to the release.

"This case is an example of why parents need to make sure their children are comfortable coming to them if someone inappropriately touches them, and also why parents need to believe their children if they say that someone has abused them," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said, according to the release.

Bedoya faces a minimum sentence of 48 years in prison in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), and must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act, according to the state's attorney's office, who added that Judge Donald Tegeler, Jr. revoked Bedoya's bond when he was convicted.

Bedoya's next court appearance is set for Oct. 3 in Kane County, the release said.

"I'm so proud of this victim for the courage and bravery he showed in coming forward to tell his story and facing his abuser in court," McMahon said, according to the release. "My thanks to ASAs Seberger and Schmidt, and the team at the Kane County Child Advocacy Center for their hard work on this case."

Daniel Spurgeon gets 25 years in Alabama
child rape, abuse case

25 years is not enough for 'worst parents of the year'

BY WHNT NEWS 19,

FLORENCE, Ala. - A former Florence man who authorities said spent years sexually and physically abusing children in his care will spend at least the next two decades in prison.

Daniel Wayne Spurgeon, 50, was sentenced Monday morning in Lauderdale County Circuit Court.

Spurgeon pleaded guilty last month to two counts of child rape, one count of sexual torture and 11 counts of aggravated child abuse.

Under the plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Spurgeon received 25 years on the sex abuse charges and 20 years for the other charges. The sentences will run concurrently.

I hate plea deals. Spurgeon should never see the light of day again.

With time served, Spurgeon won't be eligible for release until 2041, since the agreement stipulates no parole.

Spurgeon and his wife Jenise were approved foster parents who lived in Florence until August 2015. In July 2016, police in Cape Coral, Fla., were called to a fast food restaurant on a report of some intoxicated teenagers. Officers found three teens who said their father had given them alcohol.

Investigators looked deeper into the case and said they discovered Daniel Spurgeon had been physically and sexually abusing the foster children.

He and his wife were brought back to Florence to face charges.

Jenise Spurgeon is charged with aggravated child abuse. Police say she choked and smacked the children and prevented them from receiving health care.

She's set to go to trial in October.

Jury Finds Oregon High School Teacher
Guilty of Child Sex Abuse
The Legal Herald

On Friday, a Marion County jury unanimously found former McKay High School teacher Noah Powers guilty of sexually abusing a young girl. This is the second time Powers has been convicted of child sex crimes. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to attempted sex abuse of a child and served time in prison for that offense.

Seriously? He spent time in prison for attempted sex abuse of a child and he was accepted as a high school teacher. What kind of insanity is that?

In the most recent case, the 45-year-old former teacher was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sodomy, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, and attempted rape. He was found guilty on all four counts.

The victims in both cases were known to Powers. In the first case, he was accused of sexually abusing his then-step-daughter at their home in West Salem over three years. At that time, he was known as Noah Harouff. He changed his last name after being released from prison.

The victim in the second case reported that Powers had repeatedly sexually abused and assaulted her, including abuse during a camping trip and an attempted rape. The girl was 13 years old during most of the alleged abuse.

First Victim Sued Noah Powers For Sexual Abuse/Stalking

Powers’ first victim, Alexandra Harding, filed a lawsuit against Powers in 2013, seeking $950,000 in damages. This lawsuit was filed to prevent Powers from contacting the victim. According to Harding, Powers had begun showing up at her home and workplace and following her vehicle after his release from prison.

The lawsuit alleged that Powers had negligently caused emotional distress to Harding, including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, intimacy problems, panic attacks, feelings of shame, and difficulty trusting others.

A judge ruled in Harding’s favor, ordering Powers to pay her $6,500 in installments. If he defaulted on those payments, he would be held liable for another $500,000.

CA SVU Detective Who Raped Teen Victim While Investigating Her Case Gets 3 Years in Prison
By KC Baker

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sex crimes detective was sentenced to three years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2017 while he was investigating a previous sexual assault she reported, authorities say.

In July, Neil David Kimball, 46, of Agoura, California, pleaded guilty (2nd story on link) to a lewd act with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse, Ventura County District Attorney Gregory Totten announced in a news release.

On Thursday, Kimball was sentenced to the maximum term of three years in state prison for sexually assaulting the teen. Kimball was also ordered to register as a sex offender, pay the victim $50,000 for her pain and suffering and have no contact with her.

Kimball met the teen when he was working as a detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau, the district attorney says in the release.

During his investigation, Kimball “befriended the victim,” Totten said in the release. He later sexually assaulted her while she allegedly was bound and tied, Totten said in a previous release.

The incident took place in Kimball’s trailer in Camarillo, according to the New York Times.

He was arrested in November 2018 after the girl’s father told another investigator who took over the case about the sexual assault, the New York Times reports.

The 20-year veteran was originally charged with forcible rape. But prosecutors were unable to prove that he had used force, Patrice Koenig, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, told the New York Times.

Good grief! They couldn't prove she was tied up? Or being tied up isn't using force? Perhaps at 15 she was into S&M?

On July 9, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of committing a lewd act with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse as part of his plea deal.

I'll bet he did! What a sweetheart of a deal!

This is not the first time Kimball has been investigated for inappropriate behavior with sex assault victims, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In 2009, a woman alleged Kimball had grabbed her hand and tried to force her to touch his genitals while he was on duty, the Times reports. When authorities attempted to investigate, witnesses gave contradictory statements and the case was eventually dropped.

Despite the accusation, Kimball joined the Special Victims Bureau later that year.

In December, another California woman revealed she had reported Kimball to officials in 2014 after he allegedly had been inappropriate and flirtatious with her while investigating her sexual assault case.

“It was like trying to complain to a brick wall,” Sara Abusheikh told the Daily Beast. “It just makes you think, ‘How many other women are there that tried to complain about this guy?’”

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Thursday that it “has fully cooperated with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office prosecution of Neil Kimball. We hold all our employees to the highest ethical standard and when that standard is not met, there must be consequences.”

Kimball’s pay was suspended on March 4, 2019, the statement said. “The Department has now obtained court documents to proceed with his immediate termination,” it said.

Rapists, pedophiles seek the most vulnerable people to victimize. But joining SVU so you could get access to vulnerable girls is scraping the bottom of the barrel of morality.

Man arrested in Utah County on suspicion of
sexual abuse of a child, lewdness
BY REBECCA GREEN Fox13

OREM, Utah — A man was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child last week after allegations he abused two children over the course of a year.

Booking documents indicate police began investigating Lincoln Gygi, 30 of Pleasant Grove, after a girl told police the man had abused her and a young boy several times starting about three years ago.

The girl told police Gygi would “dare” or “challenge” the children to run around naked on multiple occasions. She also said he exposed himself and made her touch him and also touched her inappropriately.

Police interviewed Gygi about the allegations on August 8, and booking documents indicate he confirmed the details provided by the victim. The document states he had been warned about the police investigation and knew officers were going to talk to him about what happened.

He told police the naked running  “dares” occurred between 10 and 20 times, and he said he was naked with one of the children in a bed in at least three instances.

Gygi was arrested and booked into jail, where he faces five felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and 10 counts of lewdness involving a child, which is a misdemeanor.

NESQUEHONING, Pa. — A man in Carbon County allegedly caught another man sexually assaulting a child, and now both men are facing charges.

According to police, William Morales said he caught Mark Mead molesting the 1-year-old child in a home in Nesquehoning. Morales then pistol-whipped Mead and held him for two hours until police were called.

Police charged Mead with statutory sexual assault and charged Morales with aggravated assault.

Conroe, Tx, man sentenced to nearly 200 years
in sex abuse of child relatives
By Rebecca Hennes

A Conroe man was sentenced to nearly 200 years prison on two charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to a release from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

A Montgomery County jury spent only 20 minutes Aug. 8 to convict Fernando Guzman, 28, of the charges.  Guzman sexually abused a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old - both of whom are related to him - multiple times and subjected them to "horrific acts," prosecutors said.

One of the victims told their mother about the abuse, which later led to an investigation. After the children underwent sexual assault examinations, police had "more than enough" evidence to arrest Guzman, the release stated.

After delivering the guilty verdict, jurors spent just an hour to decide on the sentencing: 198 years, or two stacked sentences of 99 years, plus a $10,000 fine for both charges.

"The judge and jury got it right. Any child that has the courage to come forward and disclose sexual abuse deserves justice," Assistant District Attorney Wesley LeRouax said in the release. "In this case, two children had to endure a tragedy. Thankfully, the jury was able see through family dynamics and ensure that Guzman never lives to abuse another child."

He should have plea bargained, he might have gotten a slap on the wrist and a gold watch.
