"Having worked in security, Uddin was also well aware of the CCTV camera 'blind spots' and took advantage of these in order to carry out his offending."
After the sentencing, a Primark spokeswoman said: "This has been a horrendous ordeal for the victims and their families and we are truly sorry for what they have suffered. Our thoughts are very much with them."
Shetland schoolgirl, 16, compiles sobering report of over
60 sexual assault and abuse allegations
Chris Cope
A GROUNDBREAKING new report has alleged over 60 instances of sexual harassment, assault and abuse in Shetland.
The document is the work of 16-year-old Rhea from Scalloway, who approached local charity Shetland Rape Crisis for help.
It shines a sobering light on the extent of sexual harassment and abuse people in Shetland have experienced.
The anonymous stories range from older men touching a 14-year-old inappropriately in the workplace to “get past” them, to people being taken advantage of while sleeping.
There is also an account of being raped in a public place in Lerwick.
Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart said it made for “difficult reading” and added “there is work to do to educate both young and old and get rid of this kind of unacceptable behaviour”.
The idea came from Rhea, who is a volunteer with Shetland Rape Crisis’ young activists group, after she used an anonymous social media app to ask if people had been affected by sexual harassment in Shetland.
It runs alongside the hashtag #wistoo, which gives a local twist to the #metoo movement where women shared stories online of sexual harassment and abuse.
Rhea said: “Originally I was just going to do three or four stories that weren’t that big, just to show awareness. I decided after that to try to get a bit more stories, thinking I would only get maybe 10 or 15. I got so many replies, and that’s when I contacted Shetland Rape Crisis.”
Rhea, who studies at the Anderson High School, said she was “shocked” by the number of accounts that were contributed, and the seriousness of the incidents.
She said one of the main trends in the stories were incidents happening to people aged between 15 and 18 who had been drinking or were at parties.
She added: “There was also quite a pattern in parties and girls being asleep and waking up to boys trying it on with them. Underage was another big thing.”
“I know there will be a lot of people that won’t come out about their stories and they will be hiding stuff. I think it will show that they’re not alone and they will get the support that they need if they do decide to speak up about what’s happened.
“It definitely highlights that it’s as serious up here as it is anywhere else, and just because we’re a smaller place that it isn’t less serious, or that it doesn’t happen up here.”
Shetland Rape Crisis service manager Lisa Ward said the charity is preparing for an increase in people getting in touch as a result of the report. She said "I think Shetland Rape Crisis has to be prepared for the fact that we might get a bit of a surge in people looking for support.
“We have to be really clear that we are a really small team and we are pretty much at capacity right now, so there might be waiting lists.
"It’s not that Shetland is uniquely overrun with sexual violence - it’s that it’s the same as everywhere else."

Gloucester, UK: 'Predatory paedophile' jailed for 14 years
A "predatory paedophile" described by police as "every parent's nightmare" has been jailed.
Mark Taylor, from Gloucester, met girls online, groomed them and travelled across the UK to commit sexual offences against them, Gloucestershire Police said.
The 49-year-old admitted offences including sexual activity with a child and sexual grooming.
He was jailed for 14 years and put on the sex offenders register for life.
Taylor, of Manor Park, Longlevens, was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and a restraining order preventing him from contacting one of the victims.
At a previous court hearing, he admitted two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming, three counts of sexual activity with a child and four counts of making an indecent photo of a child.
He also admitted two breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and three counts of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.
'Extremely vulnerable'
Following sentencing at Gloucester Crown Court, Det Con Bernadette Harding said Taylor was "every parent's nightmare" who "systematically targeted young vulnerable females via social media".
"He is a predatory paedophile who would travel great distances across the UK to commit sexual offences against extremely vulnerable children," she said. "He would groom and manipulate them over these online platforms before travelling to meet and then sexually exploit them."
She said the "psychological damage" caused to his victims was "as significant as the sexual abuse itself".
"I hope that now the victims can start to move forward, with the knowledge that Taylor is behind bars," Det Con Harding added.
Unfortunately, there are a million more Taylors lined up to have at our children.
Wakefield, UK Council 'powerless' to remove paedophile councillor
By DANYAL HUSSAIN FOR MAILONLINE
A council says it is 'powerless' to remove a paedophile councillor despite him admitting to multiple child sex offenses.
Alex Kear, 50, of
Castleford, West Yorkshire,
confessed to multiple sexual offences involving a child under the age of 13 at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.
He represents the Airedale and Ferry Fryston ward as an independent on Wakefield Council in West Yorkshire after winning the seat from Labour at the local elections in May last year.
But Wakefield Council says it is powerless to remove him from office as he was granted bail until his sentencing on August 20.
Under current legislation, he can only be sacked if he is jailed for more than three months.
As a result, Kear remains a serving councillor despite his convictions.
He admitted to offences of trying to entice a child under the age of 13 into engaging in sexual activity and attempting to incite a child into pornography.
Gillian Marshall, Wakefield Council's chief legal officer, said after the court hearing: 'Under local authority legislation, Alex Kear remains a councillor. Wakefield Council is powerless to remove him at this stage.
'Central government has essentially left local councils powerless to take action in these situations.
'We do not have any authority to remove elected members from their position, regardless of the severity of their alleged crimes, unless they receive a significant custodial sentence.
'Therefore unless Kear chooses to resign, he remains a councillor. This will be reviewed when he is sentenced.
'As soon as we were made aware of the investigation by West Yorkshire Police we took all the appropriate safeguarding measures within our control and we will continue to do so.'
He was granted bail after yesterday's hearing and is due to return to court to be sentenced on August 20.
Judge Andrew Stubbs QC told Kear: 'The fact that I am adjourning your case for reports is no indication of the sentence that you will ultimately receive. All options remain open.'
Judge Stubbs, please, at the very least, sentence him to more than 6 months so he spends at least 3 in jail.
