Isle of Wight Pensioner Gets Suspended Sentence for Thousands of Child Sex Abuse Materials
Island Echo
A retired IT worker who had more than 7,000 indecent images of children and 3,000 images of bestiality has been sentenced to 8 months in jail – suspended for 2 years – and hit with a £3,000 fine after a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.
John Stoddart, 65, of Madeira Road in Ventnor, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 13th July where admitted 10 charges mainly relating to making and possessing indecent images of children.
As part of his sentencing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court by Judge R Hetherington today (Friday) he was also put on the sex offenders register for 10 years, given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order limiting his use of the internet, ordered to attend a 35-day rehabilitation programme and told his electronic devices will be destroyed.
Stoddart made in excess of 500 indecent images of children; 149 fell into the most severe category (A) for child abuse.
NCA officers arrested him in June 2018 after proving he had made child sex abuse files available on an online sharing platform. Files containing the words ‘Pedoland’, ‘Preteen’ and ‘Lolita’ were located and attributed to Stoddart’s IP address and user profile.
Forensic analysis of his digital devices found 7,256 indecent images and 754 videos from as early as 2004. An additional 3,000 images related to bestiality.
During interview he initially denied all allegations and said he was not sexually attracted to children. He said he sometimes clicked on online files ‘to give them a go’, and that he’d once inadvertently seen a video of a baby being abused by clicking into a pop-up on his screen.
Within the downloaded material, officers found Stoddart was a fan of online games and visual stories featuring erotic encounters with adults, children and animals.
He admitted to having a fascination with incest because it was ‘taboo’ and said he had been collecting extreme pornography since living in Germany in the 1970s.
Which supports my theory that child sexual abuse is not so much about sex, and not so much about power as much as it is about the destruction of innocence and the violation of the sacred.
Martin Matthews, NCA operations manager, said:
“Over decades Stoddart had made and amassed a vast collection of imagery that was both obscene and involved the sexual exploitation of children.
“He took pleasure in experiencing a virtual world online that involved violence and sexual abuse. Stopping this before it ever became a reality was paramount to our officers.
“Protecting children remains a top priority for the NCA and we won’t stop in our pursuit of those individuals who pose a threat.”
An NSPCC spokesperson has said:
“The scale of Stoddart’s horrific collection is extremely disturbing. These kind of images capture abuse which could stay with the victims for the rest of their lives and Stoddart has helped provide a demand for them.
“The NSPCC continues to call on the Government and tech giants to crack down on this disgusting trade and ensure no child is forced to endure abuse for the gratification of sexual predators.”
Three Sri Lankan fishermen arrested over
“sexual abuse” of boy at sea
COLOMBO (News1st): Three individuals have been arrested over the alleged sexual abuse of a boy at sea, police said on Sunday.
The boy, 16, had gone to sea with four fishermen on June 28 and had returned on August 12.
“Based on the statement recorded from the child, it has been reported that he was sexually abused,” police spokesman Jaliya Senaratne said.
The fishermen had abused the child out of anger for allowing a fish to slip back into the sea, preliminary investigations have shown.
“They have beaten my child’s back and damaged the bones,” the mother of the child said. “My child went to work to earn enough money to construct a house for us”.
Police said that the boat owner and two others have been arrested over the incident. Investigations are underway to arrest two more suspects.
“…we hope to file charges against the suspects, if the boy has been sexually abused,” the police spokesman noted.
Gwent, Wales, Police condemn Newport lorry driver
child rapist
By Iwan Gabe Davies
POLICE have spoken out after a lorry driver child rapist was jailed for 12 years for historical sex offences committed against a schoolboy.
Leslie Collett, 68, of Dean Street, Newport, would ply his victim with alcohol and cigarettes before attacking him.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how the complainant feared he would “end up in a body bag” if he didn’t go along with his tormentor’s demands.
Speaking after he was sentenced, Detective Constable Christie Radford, Gwent Police’s officer in the case, said: “This sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes Collett has committed against a vulnerable child. His actions have had a devastating effect on his victim which have remained with them into adulthood.
“I would like to commend the victim for the strength and courage they have shown during this investigation.
“Any allegations of sexual offences reported to us – regardless of when it happened – will be treated seriously and investigated thoroughly.
“I want to reassure anyone considering doing so that there is a whole range of support out there, not only from the police but from partner agencies who can help you through the entire process.”
Convicted paedophile Collett, had already been to prison for abusing young girls in 1987 and 1990 before he targeted his next victim two decades ago.
He was 50 when he groomed and then abused the boy when he was aged between 13 and 14.
Collett invited his underage victim to have sex with his wife Sharon as part of a threesome, before later turning to abuse him on his own.
Prosecutor Timothy Evans said: “By that point in time the defendant had already been sentenced to serve time in prison for abusing children on three occasions, twice in 1987 and later in 1990.”
The court was told that Mrs Collett has died.
Mr Evans said Collett raped his victim in his lorry which he was driving while working for a company based in Newport Docks.
Sex offenders convicted in South London
during summer 2020
By Orlando Jenkinson
Police and the courts have worked hard over the last three months to bring a number of sex offenders in South London and North Kent to justice despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The guilty include rapists, paedophiles and other sex offenders, many of whom were sentenced for a number of years.
One of those sentenced most recently was "dangerous" paedophile James Jewell, 36, of Brymer Road, Puddletown, Dorchester.
As News Shopper reported previously, Jewell was found guilty of a plethora of heinous sex crimes including six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, aiding and abetting the sexual assault of a child and aiding and abetting an offender to engage in sexual activity with a child.
He was also convicted for three counts of making indecent images of a child and two counts of distributing indecent images of a child.
Jewell was jailed for life on August 13.
The charges related to offences which occurred in Greenhithe and Tunbridge Wells between November 2017 and July 2018, where Jewell encouraged two women he met online to carry out sexual abuse of children.
One of the women involved in Jewell's sex crimes was Kirsty Kimber.
Kirsty Kimber, 26, of York Road, Tunbridge Wells, was jailed for more than nine years in February after pleading guilty to six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of taking indecent photographs of a child and three counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child.
Concerns were raised on 20 July 2018 after videos were found by a friend on a mobile phone of her abusing a child. Police said she was found to have shared these videos via an instant messaging app with Jewell.
Another sex criminal found guilty in South London this year was Thamesmead man Charles Westpfel.
The Met Police's specialised 'Jigsaw' team investigates and manages sexual offences, and Bexley MPS paid tribute to the team on Twitter after an 18 hour shift in late July saw Westpfel successfully remanded in custody.
Westpfel was charged with one count for breach of sexual harm prevention order, and three counts of Section 4A public order (intentional harassment, alarm or distress),
The Thamesmead man was also charged with two counts of racially aggravated Section 4A public order offences, and one count of racially aggravated harrassment.
Bexley Police said he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on July 29, and plead guilty to the offences put to him.
He is due to be sentenced in the coming weeks.
Just days after Westpfel was found guilty, a man who raped a woman in Lewisham earlier this year was convicted.
At Woolwich Crown Court, on Monday, 3 August, News Shopper: 21-year-old Danut Bulboana was found guilty of raping a woman in Lewisham.
Danut Bulboana, 21 (01.07.99), of no fixed abode, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of attempting to choke.
I August 2019 a woman in her late 20s was targeted by Bulboana and subjected to a serious sexual assault in a wooded area near Catford Bridge Railway Station.
The victim had been making her way home after a night out with a friend but became lost after she was dropped at the wrong destination by a taxi. She recalled suddenly finding herself in an unfamiliar wooded area with an unknown male - later identified as Bulboana.
Now, what are the odds that she was 'accidentally' dropped at the wrong address? Was Bulboana a taxi driver, or the friend of a taxi driver?
The sexual attack then took place. She tried to scream but Bulboana stifled her cries by forcing something into her mouth, choking her, before she was able to get away and call 999.
"This was a brutal and extremely sinister attack in which Bulboana preyed on the vulnerability of a lone woman at night," Detective Constable Dean Young said.
"Bulboana is now in custody awaiting sentence for his abhorrent crimes. Sexual offences often inflict lasting trauma on victims, but I hope that Bulboana’s conviction will help the victim’s recovery process," he added.
Back in June meanwhile, a prolific paedophile was jailed after he was found guilty of child abuse offences in London and Kent.
Roger Vye, 55 (19.10.64) of Odsey, Hertfordshire, formerly of Dover in Kent, was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, June 19, after previously pleading guilty to the following offences:
- The attempted rape of a child under the age of 13;
- Two counts of assault of child under 13 by penetration;
- Sexual assault of a child under 13;
- Arranging or facilitating the commission of child sex offence;
- Distributing indecent photographs of child/children;
- Making indecent photographs of children;
- Possessing extreme pornographic images;
- Possessing prohibited images of children.
He was sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment, with a further five years on extended licence.
Vye has been issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which includes preventing him associating with any child under the age of 18 and he will be subject to Sex Offender Registration for life.
The only thing worse than being a child in Pakistan
is the expectation of justice
..
Pakistan: Four years later, father of six-year-old who was raped and thrown in water tank in Karachi struggles to seek justice
..
Pakeeza's father has struggled with no means to pay lawyers and a botched investigation
Falah Gulzar, Social Media Reporter
Gulf News
On January 31, 2016, father-of-three Faiz Rehman found the body of his six-year-old daughter in the underground water tank of the wedding hall he had visited with his wife a week ago in Karachi, Pakistan. She had been raped and died due to drowning. Four years after the incident that made headlines at the time, Rehman continues to plead for justice for his little Pakeeza.
“My world crashed. Seeing the body of my daughter left me numb. It was the most difficult time of my life. Later, my pain became so unbearable that I even thought of ending my life,” Rehman was quoted as saying.
“But when the police said that the investigations revealed that my daughter had been raped before she was dumped into the dark hollow tank, I told my wife that we have to live to seek justice for our late daughter,” he added.
The police arrested 19 people on suspicion of the rape and murder, and charged them after a year.
19 people - possibly raping a 6 y/o girl? Utterly inhuman!
While the story initially got attention in the media and community, the couple were soon left alone to fight the case in a district court, against the nominated wedding hall owners and their staff.
No means to get a lawyer
When lawyers refused to take the case because of Faiz’s financial constraints, the bereaved father appeared before the court without a legal counsel. According to local media reports, when approached for settlement, he refused.
“The promise on my daughter’s grave was strong enough so that no amount on the table could buy me,” the Orangi Town resident was quoted as saying.
Contradictory reports
Pakistani media outlets reported that Rehman was given the DNA report of deceased after a delay of five months. (It takes time to 'make adjustments' to official documents!) Interestingly, according to the report, no semen was found inside the deceased’s body, which was a contradiction to the initial chemical test.
With the two reports contradicting each other, police formed a medical legal board to ascertain the real facts. The board maintained that the police had contaminated the DNA, hence it could not be taken as evidence in the case, further adding that the deceased had been subjected to a head injury, water inundation and sexual assault.
Nearly four years later, on November 15, 2019, the court rejected the medical board’s recommendation by calling it an “opinion”, a Pakistani news outlet reported.
While the court criticised the police investigation, based on the contentious DNA results, said that the “prosecution miserably failed to make out its case even by producing any circumstantial or documentary evidence or any other proof which assigned any concrete role of the accused persons to give complete picture of the alleged crime.” Hence, on the benefit of doubt, the court released all the suspects, declaring them innocent.
The wedding hall in Orangi Town, which had remained shut for being a crime scene opened again with a grand celebration, a week after the decision.
According to Pakistani media reports, Rehman said that he spent all his savings on the case and remains adamant on finding justice for his daughter.
“… Is it because I am poor and have no privileges to enjoy?” he was quoted as saying.
And such is the justice system in Pakistan, and the life and death of a little girl.
RCMP release new info on Cape Breton man believed to be with missing teen
Police say Darcy Doyle, 47, of Mira Gut is travelling with 14-year-old missing from Eskasoni since Thursday
CBC News
RCMP are looking in Cape Breton for Mary (Molly) Martin, 14, who has been missing since Thursday and is believed to be with Darcy Dwayne Doyle, 47, of Mira Gut. (RCMP)
RCMP have released new information identifying a man police believe is involved in the case of a missing teenager in Cape Breton.
Cpl. Lisa Croteau said RCMP are continuing to ask the public for help finding 14-year-old Mary (Molly) Martin, who was last seen on Thursday in Eskasoni.
Croteau said Martin is believed to be with a male who is known to her and they are believed to be in Cape Breton.
"We just want to check on her safety," Croteau said. "Her family and the police are concerned for her safety at this time."
Martin is described as Indigenous, 5-1 and 100 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Police say she has a rose tattoo on her left forearm and may be wearing glasses.
Martin is believed to be travelling with Darcy Dwayne Doyle, 47, of Mira Gut, according to RCMP. He is described as six feet tall and 190 pounds, with long, black hair, full beard and moustache and brown eyes.
The pair were seen on surveillance video at a gas station on Highway 22 in Catalone and RCMP say they may be travelling on red or green all-terrain vehicles.
According to court records, Doyle is due in provincial court next month on an assault charge and has a number of convictions up to 2006 on assault, theft and weapons charges.
He was also banned at one point from We'koqma'q First Nation, where Martin's family is from.
The We'koqma'q band council is offering a $5,000 reward for information that would help find Martin, said Coun. Steven Googoo.
"Everybody wants Molly home," he said.
Googoo said Doyle was at one time Martin's stepfather and the family feels Martin was manipulated into leaving with him.
Volunteers from various Mi'kmaw communities have organized their own search with 40 people and at least 25 all-terrain vehicles. That search is independent of police, but any tips that come in are being forwarded to them, Googoo said.
No Amber Alert
Googoo said the community has asked RCMP to put up checkpoints at the Canso Causeway and asked for an Amber Alert to be issued to help find Martin.
However, Croteau said this case doesn't meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
"The person has to be abducted and because of her age and her willingness to co-operate, she was not abducted on that day," Croteau said.
The lack of an Amber Alert is "a hard pill to swallow," Googoo said.
"P.E.I. issued an Amber Alert two days ago on a false Amber Alert ... yet we have a 14-year-old girl here with a 47-year-old man and we still don't meet the criteria," he said.
Search effort includes helicopter, canine team
Croteau said RCMP are working with the provincial Department of Lands and Forestry to get a helicopter to help, along with the RCMP canine team.
"We have multiple RCMP detachments and Cape Breton Regional Police that are working together on this investigation," she said. Police are asking the public or Martin to contact them as soon as possible.
Anyone with information is asked to call Eskasoni RCMP at 902-379-2822.

Winnipeg police are looking for three men who sexually assaulted a woman who was walking in the Weston area early Friday morning.
The 26-year-old woman was in the area of Logan Avenue and Vine Street around 3 a.m. when three men came up to her and sexually assaulted her, police said in a news release Monday.
All three men fled the scene, heading eastbound in the south lane of Gallagher Avenue east of the CP railway tracks.
Police responded to the call around 11:55 a.m., the release says. The woman was taken to hospital, treated and released.
Police listed descriptions of the three attackers:
Man 1: Approximately 30 years old, five foot six or five foot seven, with a medium-heavy build. He was wearing a black hoodie, baggy jean shorts and black shoes, with a baseball cap possibly in Toronto Raptors colours (red, black, white).
Man 2: Younger-looking man with a slim build, wearing a blue surgical mask, black hoodie, black sweatpants and black shoes, possibly carrying a cross-body bag.
Man 3: Approximately 30 to 40 years old, with a tattoo under his left eye, wearing a hat, black pants, black shoes and a black zip-up sweater with writing on the back.
Police are asking for help from anyone who may have seen the attack, been nearby when it happened or have video surveillance of the area.
If you have information that could help investigators, call police at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
A West Yorkshire councillor fantasized about having sex with a toddler, arranged meeting, in police sting
By Tony Gardner
Alex Kear was told by a judge that he represents a serious risk to children as he was handed an extended prison sentence of six years at Leeds Crown Court today.
Kear, who will now lose his seat as an independent on Wakefield Council, was arrested after he sent explicit photographs and depraved text messages to an undercover officer posing as the mother of a three-year-old girl.
The 50-year-old was arrested in August last year, three months after he was elected councillor for Airedale and Ferry Fryston ward at the local elections.
Jonathan Sharp, prosecuting, said Kear became involved with a group on the Kik messaging site which discussed inter-familial sex abuse. Kear sent sexually explicit images of himself and sickening text messages describing his wish to have sex with the child,
Mr Sharp said the defendant made repeated requests to be sent sexual images of the girl.
The undercover officer asked Kear how long he had had a sexual interest in children. He replied: "I think as long as I can remember but also the older I get the younger I like them. Twenty years ago I would never have thought about a baby but now ..... young."
The principle here is 'sin is progressive'!
Kear made arrangements to meet with the child to have sex with her on August 17. Kear was arrested at his home in Castleford a day before the meeting was due to take place.
Mr Sharp said Kear lied when interviewed by police and claimed he was a 'one-man paedophile hunter group'.
Kear of Stansfield Drive, Castleford, pleaded guilty to arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sexual offence involving a child under the age of 13. He also admitted one charge of inciting the sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 13.
Michael Collins, mitigating, said: "This is a case of some tragedy. He was elected as a local councillor in May last year and has been contributing to improving society.
Mr Collins said his client welcomed his arrest as he needed help with a long standing addiction to pornography.
He added that Kear had now lost his seat on Wakefield Council. He was placed on the sex offender register for life.
The court heard Kear had been living with his son and partner of 15 years at the time of his arrest but the relationship is now over.
Judge Simon Phillips QC told him: "I have no doubt that if that three-year-old girl had existed you would have intended to carry out your degenerate predatory plans against her."
The judge said: "This is a deep-seated degeneracy on your behalf as illustrated by the communications you have made that you have been interested in little girls for as long as you can remember and that you have waited years for something like this to happen."
Wakefield Council said last month that it was frustrated it could not remove Kear (5th story on link) from his position as a councillor because the law said this can only be done when defendants are jailed for three months or more.
Yvette Cooper, MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, called for an urgent review of the law following Kear's conviction. After Kear pleaded guilty to the offences at a hearing last month Gillian Marshall, Wakefield Council’s chief legal officer said: "Under local authority legislation, Alex Kear remains a councillor.
"Wakefield Council is powerless to remove him at this stage. Central government has essentially left local councils powerless to take action in these situations.
"We do not have any authority to remove elected members from their position, regardless of the severity of their alleged crimes, unless they receive a significant custodial sentence. Therefore unless Coun Kear chooses to resign, he remains a councillor. This will be reviewed when he is sentenced.
“As soon as we were made aware of the investigation by West Yorkshire Police we took all the appropriate safeguarding measures within our control and we will continue to do so.”
After the case, NSPCC spokesperson said: “Kear’s sickening determination to abuse a three-year-old shows he is clearly a serious danger to children.
“While Kear has been jailed and his former position of authority and respect lies in tatters, his experience is incomparable to sexual abuse, which can ruin childhoods and leave survivors with mental and emotional scars which could last a lifetime.
“His actions also highlight how sexual predators can use the internet for their own horrific means, and just how important it is that the Government and major tech companies do more to ensure strong regulation and legislation cracks down on this kind of activity, to protect children from paedophiles like Kear, and ensure they face the justice they deserve.”
Children can contact Childline on 0800 1111. Adults who wish to report concerns about a child’s wellbeing can contact the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 8005000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk
QC John Watt facing child sex abuse charges to be extradited
Marcello Mega
The Times
The Police Scotland investigation started when Susie Henderson made allegations against some of the country’s leading lawyers.
A Scottish lawyer is set to be extradited from America to face charges of child sexual abuse.
John Watt, QC, a former prosecutor, is accused of sexual assaults on four children in the 1970s and 1980s.
One of them is Susie Henderson, now 53, whose claims of a paedophile ring in the Scottish legal establishment led to a six-year police investigation. Among those she accused of sexual offences against children was Sir Nicholas Fairbairn, QC, the late Tory MP.
Mr Watt, 70, could be in Scotland by October after a US judge approved his removal despite his claims that his extradition should be stopped for “humanitarian” reasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A federal court judge in Oklahoma rejected the request.

Aussie Rules Footballer to be sentenced a second time for the frequent rape of his pre-teen step-daughters
By BRITTANY CHAIN and HELEN FROST FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA
A seemingly innocent picture of a smiling father and daughter actually illustrated one of the many places he molested her over the course of a decade.
Victor Ian Melville, 65, last week pleaded guilty to historic child sex charges after subjecting his two stepdaughters, Lisa and Julie Morgan, to a campaign of abuse which lasted most of their childhood.
The Morgan sisters have shared their past with Daily Mail Australia, revealing the abuse spanned across state and international borders from the time they were 11.
Julie shared one of the only pictures taken of her with her stepfather, a prominent WAFL star in his day, at their grandmother's house on the mid-north NSW coast. The photograph showed a topless Melville with his arm draped across Julie's shoulder.
The duo are smiling for the camera, but it was on that very hill where Melville would subject the teen to a sickening sexual attack.
Julie (pictured with Melville) shared this innocent family snap at her grandmother's home on the mid-north NSW coast before she was sexually assaulted in the very same spot
She said: 'He walked me up the hill and I was assaulted. At this time he had already been abusing me for three years.'
Melville's reign of terror against the sisters lasted in excess of a decade. He would repeatedly rape and abuse them during family holidays throughout Australia and overseas.
After 40 years seeking justice, Melville finally admitted his crimes in Sydney District Court last week, 15 years after he was found guilty of 32 similar offences in Perth. It was the first time he accepted his actions were wrong, reversing decades of denials.
The abuse started for Lisa Morgan in 1979 when she was just 11, and then in 1984 Melville began to prey on 12-year-old Julie. 'For all that time it was a secret, he also abused us everywhere we travelled as a family - New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Hawaii,' Julie, now 49, said.
'I don't know how I got up every day but I finished Year 12 and I went to university. Seeking justice has given me that energy to know that I'm doing the right thing.'
Melville started abusing Lisa Morgan (right) in 1979, and Julie (left) in 1984. They lived through the horrifying abuse for more than a decade
Lisa, now 53, was horrified when she learned her paedophile stepfather was also abusing her little sister, having spent years believing it was only happening to her.
But the sisters said the predator was able to 'mentally manipulate' them both as the family moved around the country for his football career.
Julie said: 'He said to me "go and tell your mother, you think she doesn't know what's going on" so there was a feeling of "gosh, does she?" so that we didn't get close to each other.
That was a lie. Their mother never knew what he was doing to the sisters.
Both women slammed a system they say took far too long to hold their stepfather accountable for his horrendous crimes and provide support for victims.
They also expressed their outrage at the Sydney District Court's failure to seek revocation of Melville's bail, meaning he remains a free man living in the same Western Australian community as his victims while he awaits sentencing.
'The failures of the system have been shocking. If you look at how many years we've been fighting, it just shouldn’t be like that,' Julie said. 'I just want to highlight the problems for victims in the justice system. Victims shouldn't have to chase these things up. It would be nice to know there was support there, and for us, there was not.'
On Thursday the Morgan sisters (pictured) told Daily Mail Australia of their relief to find closure at last, but slammed a system they say took far too long to hold their stepfather accountable for his horrendous crimes
Lisa (pictured left) was horrified when she learned her paedophile stepfather was also abusing her little sister, having spent years believing it was only happening to her
In 2005, Melville was convicted of 32 child sex crimes in Western Australia, the details of each offence too shocking to publish.
He was jailed for six years but refused to admit he was guilty and he lodged an appeal which resulted in four years being added to his sentence.
But in an extraordinary turn of events he was released into the same community as his stepdaughters in 2013 and authorities failed to tell the two girls about his movements.
He went on to publish a blog detailing his own football career in 2015 titled: 'Perth Personality of the Month'.
On a separate website, which shows pictures of his artwork, he also posted a chilling message which read: 'We continue to entrust our future with men and women who promise us the most not those who will do what's right.'
Melville (pictured) appeared in Sydney District Court on Friday and pleaded guilty via videolink to six charges relating to sexual abuse they suffered during family holidays in Taree in the 1980s
But on Friday, the girls saw their 40-year fight for justice come to an end as Melville pleaded guilty via video link at Sydney District Court to six charges relating to sexual abuse they suffered during family holidays in Taree in the 1980s.
Lisa, who now works in real estate, told Daily Mail Australia that the plea gave she and her sister a sense of closure. 'To get that guilty plea from someone who had the character of not accepting any responsibility - it's about being believed,' she said.
Melville is still out on bail and is living in Perth as he awaits sentencing, as the New South Wales Director of Public Prosecutions did not seek revocation of his conditional bail. 'He shouldn't have that luxury. He pleaded not guilty right until the last minute. I have no doubt he felt he did no wrong,' Julie said.
Julie, now an interior architect and married with four children, said her childhood experiences have given her the strength to tackle future challenges. She said: 'Now I'm able to live the life everyone deserves to live without being scared and hurt. It's given me that power back. I'm worthy of being able to be free.'
Melville's next court appearance for the New South Wales charges is October 13.
SISTERS' FIGHT FOR JUSTICE
Lisa and Julie Morgan supplied a detailed timeline of the abuse they suffered at the hands of Victor Ian Melville and their fight for justice and closure
1979 - Melville starts to abuse 11-year-old Lisa Morgan, raping her on family holidays around Australia and in Hawaii
1984 - Melville begins to prey on Lisa's younger sister Julie, then aged 12
1989 - Ten years of depraved attacks too shocking to publish in detail stop when Julie threatens to expose Melville
1995 - Lisa tells her mother about the abuse suffered by her and her sister at the hands of her stepfather
2000 - Lisa reports the abuse to police in Western Australia
2001 - Melville faces court for the first time in Perth
2005 - Jury finds Melville guilty of 32 offences and judge sentences him to six years behind bars. He appeals and loses; his sentence extended to 10 years
2013 - Melville is released on parole, but the sisters are not told by authorities that he has been released into their community
September 2014 - Lisa and Julie Morgan report NSW offences from family holidays in Taree during mid-1980s
March 2018 - Melville is charged with historical sex offences in New South Wales
August 2020 - Melville reverses decades of denials and pleads guilty to six offences in the Sydney District Court, appearing by video link from Western Australia. The court does not revoke bail after the guilty plea, and Melville remains a free man while awaiting sentencing
