New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested a 26-year-old Noida resident on charges of blackmailing and extorting money from over 100 women by morphing their pictures and threatening to post the same on social media, police said on Wednesday.
Accused Sumit Jha used to download and morph the profile pictures of women from their social media accounts, create fake profiles on the same platform, and send threatening messages to the women that their nude pictures would be posted online in case they did not pay money.
According to police, the matter came to light when a woman bank Manager complained about online harassment and extortion threats to upload her nude picture on her Instagram account.
The accused also demanded money from the complainant as well as her contact persons on social media.
"The accused was using VOIP calls through WhatsApp and other apps to avoid detection. However, on the basis of service provider's report and secret information, we arrested the accused on Tuesday," Atul Thakur, DCP, South Delhi, said.
The accused was previously also arrested by Chhattisgarh and Noida police in 2018.
It appears he didn't learn very much in two years.

Dubai: A suspect who was charged with child abuse in Oman has been slapped with five years imprisonment and a fine of OMR5,000, local media reported.
Extensive investigations concluded that the accused took advantage of a girl while she was alone in the shop and harassed her.
Omani Public Prosecution said: “The Court of Appeal in the North Al Sharqiah Governorate convicted the accused Salem bin Ali Salem of a felony of molesting a child and ruled that he shall be punished with five years imprisonment and a fine of OMR5,000, while ordering the publication of the ruling.”
Unfortunately, no age for the girl was given, and the extent of the 'harassment' is unknown.
CBI arrests wife of UP engineer nabbed for child sexual abuse

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Durgawati, wife of a junior engineer in the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, who was nabbed earlier for alleged sexual exploitation of children.
Durgawati, the wife of serial child molester Ram Bhuvan Yadav, has been remanded to judicial custody till January 4.
The agency is yet to give a formal reason for Durgawati's arrest, but according to sources cited by PTI, she was allegedly influencing witnesses connected to the case.
Durgawati was trying to influence and manipulate the prime witnesses in the case against her husband.
Ram Bhawan, a resident of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, is a suspended engineer of the state government and accused of sexually exploiting over 50 children. It may be recalled that the Special Unit of the CBI specialising in 'Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention/ Investigation' (OCSAE) had arrested Ram Bhawan from Banda in November.
A junior engineer of Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, he was held for sexually exploiting minors, recording videos of the act and circulating them on the dark web.
The matter was brought to the notice of the CBI, sometime earlier this year. A case was then registered against unidentified persons suspected of sexually abusing minors in Banda, Chitrakoot and Hamirpur districts.
The accused was also suspected of recording these heinous crimes using their mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices.
The CBI, in a statement related to the case, had said, "It was further alleged that these photographs and video films containing child sexual abuse material were published and transmitted by the accused using the facility of internet. It was also alleged that the accused used the dark web for sale, transmission and sharing of such CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) content with other individuals."
The CBI had also conducted searches at the residence of the accused in which they recovered Rs eight lakh in cash along with mobile phones, laptops, web-cameras and other electronic storage devices, including pen drives, memory cards and several sex toys.
The accused allegedly used these electronic items and gadgets to lure as many as 50 children falling in the age group of 5-16 years. He had been sharing this explicit content with clients for over 10 years, according to CBI sources, reported IANS.
"The scrutiny of the emails of the accused has revealed that he was allegedly in constant touch with several individuals (both Indian and foreign nationals) for the purpose of sharing child sexual abuse material. The accused has allegedly created and shared huge quantity of child sexual abuse material, over the years, through the internet using various social media platforms and websites over the darknet," the CBI had said.
