On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel approved the law brought in by the state government to curb forced, dishonest and fraudulent religious conversions. Within hours, the police registered the first case under the law.
The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has registered the first case under the newly adopted law prohibiting the Unlawful Conversion of Religion. The First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against a Muslim in the Bareilly district of the state.
“The FIR was registered at Devraniya police station of Bareilly. A Hindu man of Sharifnagar village accused a Muslim man of mounting pressure on his daughter to convert her to Islam,” said Avinash Chandra, assistant director-general (ADG) at Bareilly, confirming that the first case has been registered as per the provisions of the recent law.
According to Chandra, the complainant alleged that the Muslim has known his daughter since her college days. Chandra added that it has been suggested that the man has been harassing the woman and her family members for the past few months. The accused is absconding, according to police.
According to the reports in local media, the accused lives in the same village as the woman whom he is alleged to be pestering and the incident has soured the area's communal harmony.
Uttar Pradesh became the first state earlier this week to bring in a law against forced religious conversions.
The law, Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, approved by the state cabinet, aims to curb the instances of Muslim men marrying Hindu women with the design of converting them to Islam after marriage. After the law was passed, a minister in Uttar Pradesh's cabinet, Sidharth Nath Singh said there have been hundreds of instances where Hindu girls have been unlawfully forced to convert to Islam.

A 43-year-old man has allegedly murdered his seven-year-old son and then slept with the dead body late Friday night. Police took him into custody following a complaint by his wife on Saturday. The incident happened in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The accused was later identified as Alankar Srivastava, who lives in Kanpur with his wife Sarika, a 10-year-old son Rushank and his two daughters – Geetika and Tulika.
According to the Indian media outlets, Sarika, who is working as a government school teacher, said that Srivastava informed her around 5 am on Saturday that he had strangled their son to death. She immediately called up her relatives, who came rushing to their house. Subsequently, police were informed, and a team reached the spot.
While talking to the media, a senior police official said: "Sarika told that Alankar killed their son late on Friday night and went to sleep with the body in the drawing room. At around 5 am, her husband visited their bedroom and after waking her up and apprised her that he had killed their son and said that now no one would trouble their son, he is now taking restful sleep."
“The family members are still in a shock and we are yet to record their statement,” he added.
One of their neighbours told the police that Alankar got depressed after he lost his job during the COVID-19 lockdown. He deeply loved his son and daughters and was always worried about their future.
Based on a complaint registered by Sarika, police have booked Srivastava for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. He has confessed to having killed the child, the police officer said, adding that the body of the victim was sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigations into the case are underway.
Is depression a reasonable explanation for this murder? I suspect demonic involvement in this horror story.

GUJRANWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said Sunday they have arrested a man who allegedly blackmailed children into sending sexually explicit videos by befriending them through online games, such as PUBG and 8 Ball Pool.
Following an operation in Jamshoro, the deputy director of the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing, Mohammad Iqbal, said several pornographic and sexually explicit videos were recovered from the suspect during the raid.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against him as well, he added, noting that the suspect used to befriend children through PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, an online battle royale game popularly known as PUBG, and multiplayer video game 8 Ball Pool.
The FIA official said the suspect also used to solicit sexually explicit videos from children by luring them in with offers of giving them PUBG's in-game currency, G-Coins.
"In the past, the culprit had forced some children into sending him videos of their families, after which he would blackmail them," he added.
According to Iqbal, the parents of one of the children had earlier submitted a request to investigate the matter and register a case against the suspect. He added that the alleged paedophile has cyber-abused and threatened children from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab along with their families.
The criminal investigation and cybercrime agency was investigating the sale of pornographic videos by the suspect as well, Iqbal stated.
Earlier this week, another Pakistani man from Punjab was arrested for allegedly sharing and owning sexually-explicit videos of children after Brazil — through the help of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) — shared documents and other evidence linking him to an international child pornography ring.
The man, identified as Riaz, a resident of Narowal, was in possession of more than 600 sexually-explicit videos of children, according to the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing in Gujranwala. He was working for a global child sex abuse ring, it added.
The man's laptop and other devices were sent for forensic testing and a case filed against him.
Saudi Arabia: Online child sex abuse reports spike during COVID-19
Millions of images, videos of children being raped and abused bounce around internet

Abu Dhabi: The Saudi Human Rights Commission said it had received 697 reports related to children’s rights and noticed an increase in the number of online child sexual abuse reports during coronavirus quarantine, local media reported.
Spokesperson Noura Al Haqbani said the commission addressed the authorities after monitoring a number of violations against children on social media, which blocked offensive content and prosecuted transgressors legally.
She did not elaborate on the number or type of online child abuse reports.
“Online harassment of children is a heinous crime that is prohibited by all regulations and laws, being a gross violation of the rights of the child, which requires concerted efforts of society and institutions to combat this phenomenon, and to strengthen cooperation between all parties to eliminate it, track offenders and hold them accountable,” Al Haqbani added.
Online child abuse does not get the public interest it warrants in large part because its horrific nature is hard to fathom and difficult to discuss, experts said.
Many millions of images and videos of children and even newborn babies being raped and abused – or of children coerced into performing sex acts on camera – constantly ricochet across the internet. What may begin as seemingly innocent chatting between strangers online can lead to “sextortion,” abduction and human trafficking, according to advocates and law enforcement.
The increase in reports tracks in the United States and abroad during the pandemic, experts said. Tips to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the clearinghouse for such information in the United States, nearly doubled from 6.3 million in the first half of 2019 to 12 million through June of this year. Reports of online enticement similarly spiked during that timeframe, from 6,863 to 13,268.

who had lost his job

Dubai: A maid in Dubai was tortured to death by her sponsor who claimed that she fell unconscious on the bathroom floor, an official said.
Brigadier Jamal Al Jallaf, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, said the Arab sponsor took the Asian maid to a private hospital in Dubai for treatment, claiming that she had fallen on the ground. The hospital suspected foul play and alerted Dubai Police, who discovered that the maid had died from physical assault by the sponsor.
“The sponsor had initially claimed that he didn’t know the reason behind the maid’s death. There were torture signs on her body and her weight was only 35kg. Medical reports revealed that she had died two days before the incident was reported,” Brig Al Jallaf said. Dubai Police’s medical reports said that she had died after being struck on the chest with something heavy and also owing to the fact that she was physically too weak due to malnutrition.
Police then confronted the sponsor and his wife with the evidences. Finally, the wife admitted that her husband had beaten the maid, particularly after he was laid off from work. Police said the sponsor realised that the maid was dead more than a day after assaulting her.
According to Brig Al Jallaf, the sponsor admitted that he had hired the maid before COVID-19 through a recruitment office for Dh20,000 but later discovered that she couldn’t perform her duties owing to her poor health. “He tried to return the maid after six months, but the office told him they didn’t have a replacement due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Meanwhile, he was laid off from his job. He was always at home and had frequent fights with the maid,” Brig Al Jallaf added.
Colonel Adel Al Joker, Assistant Director-General for Criminal Research Affairs at Dubai Police, said the wife admitted that her husband’s mental condition became worse after he was fired from his job. “The sponsor used to beat the maid for the silliest of reasons. He used to put lit cigarettes onto the maid’s body. She had sustained severe emaciation,” said Al Joker.
