A Worcester County man was indicted on a federal charge of possessing child sexual abuse images, according to authorities who noted the man had served time in the past for a similar charge.
The 35-year-old Auburn man, Christoper Rondeau, was indicted by a federal grand jury after his cellphone contained child sexual abuse images, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Rondeau was released from federal custody in August 2019 on a prior charge of receiving child pornography and is a registered Level 2 sex offender in Massachusetts.
In the recent case, authorities said they found messages in the Kik app that showed Rondeau solicited nude pictures from a young girl, records said.
The phone was discovered by investigators while conducting a search of Rondeau’s residence on Nov. 6. The cellphone was hidden under a dresser in his bedroom, according to federal records.
In 2016, Rondeau was sentenced to prison after investigators said they caught him receiving more than 1,700 files of child sexual abuse images. He was ordered to serve 68 months and was placed on supervised release for seven years.
Rondeau will be arraigned at the federal court in Worcester but not specific date has been set.
The case was brought forward as part of Project Safe Childhood, a branch of the Department of Justice. It aims to “combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse,” and was launched in May 2006.
