‘Porn literacy’ class at New York prep school
leaves students and parents baffled
23 May, 2021 15:54
Parents forking over $40,000-plus a year for their students to attend Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School were outraged after the junior class was given a ‘porn literacy’ course without warning.
‘Pornography Literacy: An intersectional focus on mainstream porn’ was a course given to 120 male and female students (some in person, others by Zoom) and, according to the New York Post, was taught by Justine Ang Fonte, the Health & Wellness director at New York’s Dalton, who says on her website that she has “reveled in disrupting health education for 10 years.”
The presentation, some of which was seen by the Post, included images of partially nude women (some in bondage), discussions on the “orgasm gaps” between straight and gay women, and popular search terms on pornographic websites like “stepmom” and “anal,” as well as ‘genres’ of porn such as “barely legal.”
Another section included a lesson on “the marketability of OnlyFans,” an increasingly popular subscription service where people, mainly females, offer suggestive or pornographic photos and videos for fees. One example given for an OnlyFans ‘creator’ is someone who identifies as ‘non-binary’, but uses the term ‘girl’ to describe themselves to help market their creator page.
“We were supposed to answer questions about the porn stuff in the Zoom chat but we were all side-chatting in group chats and tons of kids thought it was so dumb that they sent the link to their friends all over the city and they were all logging on with the password,” one student told the Post.
That student’s mother said she and other parents are “frustrated by what’s going on” and the lack of a warning or chance to opt out of the class has left her wondering “what else the school is up to.”
Multiple other parents requested materials from the ‘porn literacy’ lesson from administrators, but were denied.
“Why is the school making porn a priority as opposed to physics, art, literature or poetry?” one parent asked.
After reports of the lesson went public and outrage increased, Dr. William M. Donohue, Columbia’s head of school, sent an email to parents apologizing and admitting the lesson did not “represent our philosophy.”
“It was unfortunate that we did not better inform ourselves of the speaker’s specific content in advance,” he said. “In this case, the speaker did not align with our unique CGPS mission and for this, I apologize.”
Perhaps the administration of the school needs to define the meaning of "Preparatory" more precisely.
Easy access to pornography by teen and pre-teen boys is, IMHO, responsible for a lot of the rape-culture in western schools and universities. It should never be treated like it's a normal part of life. It was in Sodom, I'm sure, and idiotic things like this just bring us closer to that fatal city and the judgment of God.
‘Shameful fearmongering’? LGBTQ+ activists blast 60 Minutes for segment on trans youths featuring people who have detransitioned
24 May, 2021 22:13
LGBTQ+ advocacy group GLAAD has slammed ‘60 Minutes’ over a “fearmongering” segment presenting people who have ‘detransitioned’ and questioning whether youth are rushed into medical procedures.
The segment in question looked at multiple US states seeking to prohibit minors from receiving transgender-related health care, including puberty blockers, testosterone, estrogen, or surgeries related to their transition.
GLAAD wrote following the segment that aired on Sunday:
Tonight
@60Minutes
@LesleyRStahl
aired a shameful segment fearmongering about trans youth. Parents of trans youth could walk away with the false belief that young people are being rushed into medical transition. That is simply untrue. (1/7)

As the piece noted, every major medical association supports affirming, age-appropriate care for trans youth and the guidelines for that care are safe and well-established. And yet, the majority of the story was devoted to "raising concerns" about youth accessing that care. (2/7)
This is an example of the power of LGBTQ+ lobbying, not an example of the wisdom of major medical associations.
The group said the majority of the ‘60 Minutes’ story was “devoted to ‘raising concerns’ about youths” accessing such healthcare.
Psychologist Dr. Laura Edwards Leeper was interviewed during the segment about her work helping teenagers and young adults successfully transition after a “comprehensive assessment” and she raised concerns about healthcare professionals accepting young people claiming to be transgender “too readily.”
This is a doctor who supports transitioning even as teenagers, and yet she admits it is just way too easy for it to happen.
Leeper said she and other colleagues fear that some transitioning processes are happening too quickly and those taking issue with this are “afraid to speak up.”
“We’re afraid of not being seen as being affirming or being supportive of these young people or doing something to hurt the trans community,” she said.
They are afraid of the hysterical reaction of the LGBTQ+ lobby, as exhibited here.
Another interview critics took issue with featured Grace Lidinsky-Smith, who began a full gender transition in her 20s only to later detransition less than a year later.
“I can’t believe that I transitioned and detransitioned, including hormones and surgery, in the course of, like, less than one year,” she said. “It’s completely crazy.”
GLAAD seemed to blast Lidinsky-Smith’s involvement with the CBS story, saying the network failed to “disclose that a person profiled in the story is the president of a group that actively seeks to limit affirming transition-related healthcare."
Lidinsky-Smith is the president of the Gender Consumer Advocacy Network, which “aims to empower consumers to make the best decisions possible when starting or stopping gender care services.”
Four other people who had detransitioned were also interviewed.
Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David raised concern with the focus on people who have regretted transitioning in a ‘60 Minutes Overtime’ segment.
“Bringing a story to light about detransitioning without talking about the vast majority of ppl who positively transition would cause concern because it sends a message,” he said. “We need to also elevate the positive stories who successfully transition.”
Others similarly targeted the segment, including American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) lawyer Chase Strangio:
@60Minutes
Lesley Stahl, Alexandra Poolos, and Collette Richards knew exactly the harm they were causing with last night’s segment. They knew it was the wrong moment and a dangerous, unaccountable and limited angle. But they did it anyway. That’s on all of you.
The real danger is that children are being treated for gender dystrophy with experimental drugs and the result is a spectacular rate of attempted suicide.
85% of children who identify as the opposite to their biological sex, normalize after puberty
80% of children who seek to transition sexually display signs of mental illness
It is against the law in the USA to treat them for mental illness
35-51% of transgenders attempt suicide
Again, children almost always pay the consequences for the madness of adults
“Giving airtime now to young people who are ‘detransitioning’ while the whole trans community is under attack is rather like running a segment on Asian Americans who believe calling it the ‘China Virus’ is perfectly fine. Did you think this through, @60Minutes?” ‘Star Trek’ actor and gay, liberal activist George Takei added.
'The whole trans community is under attack'; all I see is the detransitioners under attack. Do you think it proper to hide the fact that detransitioners exist?
Others praised the segment as “fair” journalism highlighting a “serious problem.”
This is a serious problem. And kudos to
@60Minutes
for responsibly handling it.
Transitioning is a reasonable process for some...but it is a serious, difficult decision, and teens can't make this decision on their own.

Detransitioners’ stories need to be heard.
“GLAAD wants the truth concealed,” journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted in his defense of the story.
