Woman arrested in connection to Louisiana fifth-grade teacher Marisa Noel, who is accused of 25 child sex crimes
A woman has been arrested for her alleged “involvement” with sex abuse by a Louisiana fifth-grade teacher accused of rape and other sick crimes involving a student who is under 13, according to authorities.
Cortney Burleigh, 37, was arrested last Thursday, a day after teacher Marisa Noel, 31, was hit with a flurry of new charges, including first-degree rape of a young student.
Noel, who taught at Teche Elementary School in Breaux Bridge, had already been charged with disturbing behavior with one of her fifth-grade students when “an additional victim was identified,” officials had said previously while announcing a flurry of new charges, taking the total to 25 counts.

“That’s when the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested Burleigh on these charges for her involvement in the crime,” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office said.
“Burleigh’s arrest is the result of an ongoing joint investigation between the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations involving the sexual abuse a child under the age of 13,” the AG’s office said.
The AG did not elaborate on exactly what role Burleigh allegedly played, or how she was tied to Noel, beyond noting that she “was not a teacher at the school.”
She was arrested on three felony charges, including indecent behavior with juveniles as an accessory after the fact.
She has also been charged with cruelty to juveniles — an offense which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years in Louisiana — as well as obstruction of justice.
Murrill confirmed the investigation “is still very ongoing.”

“We will continue to support our partners across the state and bring to justice anyone who exploits or sexually abuses the children of Louisiana,” she said.
Noel was first arrested last Monday following a two-month probe into her behavior with a fifth-grader at the school.
She was charged with four counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, and the same number for using a computer to solicit a minor.
While in custody, she was rearrested Wednesday on 17 additional charges after cops identified “an additional victim.”
Noel, who faces life in prison if convicted of the rape charge, also faces 10 counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, as well as two counts of having child sexual abuse material.
She was also accused of unlawful communications and harassment and using a computer to solicit a minor.
Noel remains in custody at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
Firefighter Linked to Online Child Exploitation Investigation
An investigation initiated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has led to the identification of a Portland firefighter in connection with the upload and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
On August 26, 2025, the Portland Police Bureau's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit reviewed a report from an online platform regarding illegal content uploads. Investigators identified multiple related accounts and traced associated IP activity to a Portland fire station, where the material was uploaded. Through investigative practices, detectives identified Portland Fire & Rescue firefighter Andrew J. Ligatich, 43, as the individual connected to the accounts.
On Monday, April 20, 2026, Ligatich turned himself in and he was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) on the following charges: Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the First Degree (three counts) and Using a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct (two counts).
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 25-803712.
No further information will be released at this time.
San Jose teen faces murder, child sex abuse charges after death of toddler
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A San Jose teenager has been charged with murder and child sexual assault after his 2-year-old foster brother was found unresponsive on Easter Sunday with suspicious traumatic injuries, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. The toddler, identified by prosecutors as Baby Jaxon, succumbed to his injuries on April 9 after days on life support.
The San Jose Police Department and medical personnel found Baby Jaxon bruised and battered in his crib in the early afternoon of April 5 at a residence in the 300 block of Otono Court. Investigators said the boy had been placed into the foster family home in February, and since that time, he had been the victim of repeated sexual and physical assaults.

Detectives arrested Baby Jaxon’s 17-year-old foster brother as the primary suspect on April 8. On Monday, the DA’s office filed charges of murder and child assault causing death against the suspect, who has since turned 18 years old. He had previously been charged in the case with multiple counts of sexual assault, including forced sodomy.
Detectives investigating the homicide learned that Baby Jaxon was “placed with a foster caregiver who had a concerning criminal history,” SJPD said. According to authorities, the caregiver was not cooperative or forthcoming in the initial investigation.
The teenage suspect was charged in juvenile court due to his age at the time of the alleged murder. Prosecutors said they are seeking to transfer the case to adult court.
“If his petition is found true in juvenile court, he could face seven years in Secure Track, a locked facility for juveniles who have been adjudicated of serious crimes,” the DA’s office wrote. “If the case is sent to adult court by a judge, he could face many years in prison.”
A full autopsy of Baby Jaxon is pending, prosecutors said Monday.
Taylor County jury sentences Ovalo man to 50 years for child sex abuse
Caution: sickening behaviour discussed below...
TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — Cary Roberts was sentenced to 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole after a Taylor County jury found him guilty April 16, 2026, of continuous sexual abuse of a child and indecent exposure.
Roberts was first arrested in July 2023 on a charge of indecency with a child. He was arrested again in January 2024 on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Additional charges were filed later, including indecency by exposure.
According to court documents, Roberts abused a girl younger than 14 between January 2023 and January 2024, committing multiple acts of sexual abuse. The allegations included penetration, according to the court records.
Documents say a detective was notified after the victim made an outcry to a counselor. The victim told investigators Roberts assaulted her multiple times.
In a July 2023 disclosure, the victim said Roberts made her shower with him and wash his body. In a January 2024 interview at the Child Advocacy Center, she said Roberts put his private parts into hers and that she did not like it.
The victim also said Roberts forced her to drink what she described as “milk” from his genitalia. She said Roberts spanked her and forced her back onto the bed if she refused or tried to leave. She testified the abuse happened in Roberts’ and his wife’s bathroom and bedroom.
