Parents of Ontario Catholic Student Vocal About Gender Beliefs

Suspended From Teaching Jobs

Josh Alexander, a grade-11 student at St. Joseph's High School in Renfew, Ont. (Yan Parisien)

The Epoch Times

Grade 11 student Josh Alexander of Renfrew, Ont., has received international attention for an ongoing struggle with his Catholic school board over his belief that God made only two genders. His parents, who are teachers in a separate board, have recently been put on leave and are under investigation. They suspect it’s because of the attention their son has gotten.

“From the beginning, I understood the consequences my actions may have and I was willing to take that stand and face the consequences,” Alexander told The Epoch Times. “But I must admit, I’m pretty disappointed to see that since they haven’t been able to get to me, they’re now attacking my family.”

Alexander was first suspended by St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in November when he organized a protest against transgender students using the girls’ washroom. When the suspension ended, he was still banned from school grounds for the rest of the year for saying he would continue to express his belief. The school board has said his actions amount to “bullying” transgender students.

Parents Under Investigation

His father, Matt Alexander, is a grade 7/8 teacher at the Renfrew County District School Board. His mother, Nicole Alexander, is a kindergarten teacher in the same board.

This is not even the same school board as Josh is under!

His mother received notice on May 8 that she was to be put on leave and that she is under investigation. The reason she was given, Alexander said, is that she had removed a pride flag someone else had put on the door of her kindergarten classroom.

“Somebody reported her and went to the superintendent who told her that in order to protect the students, they’d have to put her on leave and place her under investigation,” Alexander said.

His father had received notice about two weeks prior. “They haven’t really given a reason for my dad’s investigation,” Alexander said. “There’s been no actual scenario that would have called for investigation.”

The Renfrew board did not reply to an Epoch Times inquiry regarding Alexander’s parents or the reasons they are being investigated.

‘It’s No Secret That They’re My Parents’

Alexander has participated in events nationwide as part of a group he helps run, called Save Canada. The group describes itself as a Christian youth organization that stands for Christian values and liberty. Alexander has received media attention nationwide and abroad, so he certainly has been the talk of his hometown.

“Renfrew County’s not a big area. Everybody knows everybody and there’s obviously a lot of talk about me,” Alexander said. “It’s no secret that they’re my parents.”

Alexander says he has a good relationship with his parents and seeks advice from them, but it has been clear for some time that he is to make his own decisions regarding his activism. His lawyer, James Kitchen, previously told The Epoch Times, “He runs his own life. And that’s actually by design, because that’s how his parents raised him to be.”

Alexander’s Beliefs

Kitchen has filed a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal on behalf of Alexander alleging the school board is guilty of religious discrimination. The complaint says Alexander’s faith “requires him to reject any affirmation which in any way contributes to the destruction of himself or any other human being; to actively speak truth and reject all falsehoods; and to protect vulnerable women with whom he comes into contact.”

It further states that Alexander cannot speak the “falsehood that humans can supplant God’s design and rule by changing from one gender to another.  … Josh believes God’s design for gender is good.”

Guidelines published by the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board, on the other hand, say that “every person is able to define their own gender identity and/or expression. A person’s self-identification is the sole measure of gender.”

Which, of course, is stupidity beyond ridiculousness.

Sophie Smith-DorĂ©, co-founder of Arnprior Pride and mother of one of the transgender students at the school, told The Epoch Times in a written message in January, “Trans folks and their loved ones (like most marginalized folks) are constantly doing this emotional work and it’s exhausting. We bear the burden of trying to protect our gender-diverse kids.”

She said Alexander and the adults who have rallied behind him belong to the “far-right” and are “scrambling for an agenda. … It doesn’t appear to matter to them that their casualties are children.”

There is definitely a dramatic difference in perspective and when that is taken into account, it appears at first glance that both sides are correct. From Josh's perspective, if I may be allowed to speculate, there are probably a small handful of gender-dysphoric kids in his school. The hundreds of girls who are not gender-dysphoric are put in danger, or, at the very least, in considerable discomfort by having a male-appendaged kid in their washroom. This doesn't seem to matter to Arnprior Pride, they don't address this issue at all.

Josh may know that 50.8% of girls who transition to boys in their teens will attempt suicide in their later teens or twenties. He may also know that an inordinate number of trans kids have at least one mental illness. Whether the mental illness comes first or the transition comes first we do not yet know.

Another aspect of the difference in perspective is that Josh knows that one day we will all stand before God and give an accounting of our lives and how we influenced others. He knows that the real purpose of our life on this planet is to prepare for Eternity. He can see that transgender kids are in no-wise prepared to stand before God and for him to pretend they are would be sinful.

Those who reject the idea that God exists and therefore Josh's perspective is irrelevant, have settled their Eternal destiny and probably that of their children. Only a major act of God can save such people.

Alexander told The Epoch Times in December, “I do have a little bit of sympathy” for the transgender students. “I don’t think it’s fair that they are growing up with parents who encourage this behaviour.” He says schools have also encouraged gender dysphoria.

He is organizing a nationwide walk-out on May 17, encouraging students to participate in protest of biological males using female restrooms and change rooms.

School board group in Pennsylvania quits national association

for suggesting angry parents are ‘domestic terrorists’

Pennsylvania state’s association of school boards has voted to leave the national federation for such governing bodies, saying the “final straw” was a letter to President Joe Biden that likened parents to “domestic terrorists.”

The Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) told members in a memo sent earlier this week that its directors had voted unanimously to withdraw from the National School Boards Association (NSBA). The state group has had a number of concerns about the NSBA’s direction in recent years, and the letter to Biden cemented the decision to quit the federation.

“This misguided approach has made our work and that of many school boards more difficult,” the PSBA said.

The most recent national controversy surrounding a letter to President Biden suggesting that some parents should be considered domestic terrorists was the final straw.

The state group added that the NSBA’s call for federal intervention against parents who are irate over school curriculums and policies has “fomented more disputes and cast partisanship on our work on behalf of school directors.” The PSBA said it seeks to “find common ground” and support all school boards, “no matter their politics.”

Now is not the time for more politics and posturing. It is the time for solutions to the many challenges facing education.

The NSBA letter to Biden, which was sent late last month, resulted in the US Department of Justice responding just a week later by announcing that the FBI would be investigating threats against school officials and staffers. NSBA executive director Chip Slaven praised the swift federal crackdown as “a strong message to individuals with violent intent who are focused on causing chaos, disrupting public schools and driving wedges between school boards and the parents, students and communities they serve.”

The trade group’s letter encouraged the Biden administration to investigate and classify the “heinous actions” of parents who allegedly threatened school officials as a form of “domestic terrorism and hate crimes.”

School board meetings across the US in recent months have featured calls for resignations and demands that curriculums be reformed after parents realized that in many cases, children are being taught that white people are racist oppressors and non-white people are victims of systemic racism. Parents also challenged curriculums that they considered anti-American, as well as such policies as teaching about gender identity as early as kindergarten. Allowing transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their choice also has been contentious.

A parent in Loudoun County, Virginia was tackled by police and arrested after an emotional outburst at a school board meeting in June. That parent, Scott Smith, now plans to sue school officials for mishandling and allegedly trying to cover up the rape of his daughter by a 14-year-old male student who exploited the district’s gender-affirmation policies to access the girls’ restroom. The same “gender fluid” student allegedly raped another girl after being transferred to another Loudoun County school.

It would be interesting to know what comments on the student accompanied him to the new school!

Smith accused the Loudoun County School Board of smearing him as a dangerous troublemaker for political reasons, and he said the coverup gave the alleged rapist an opportunity to victimize another young girl.

‘Priceless’: US students accused of ‘hypocrisy’ as they back

diversity quotas… unless it comes to college football team

A report featuring interviews with University of Florida students has led to claims of hypocrisy regarding diversity quotas after some of those questioned changed their tune when it applied to their college football team.

A reporter from conservative news website Campus Reform performed interviews with students on game day as their team took on and eventually lost to Alabama last month, and were asked if they would support diversity quotas some institutions are spending millions of dollars on implementing when applied "in the workplace and the college admissions process".

At first, in the clip already seen by close to a quarter of a million people, every student surveyed showed a preference for diversity when it comes to making decisions on hiring staff and admissions.

"They should probably have diversity quotas for college admissions and a bunch of other things," explained one.

"As a first-generation college student from a Hispanic household it’s very important," stated another.

When the reporter shifted the focus to college sports, however, and whether diversity protocol should be applied to them, there appeared to be a marked difference in attitude among the same students who immediately rejected the notion.

Instead, they cited the need to allow factors such as talent, ability and skill be make or break.

"Obviously, with sports, it’s talent first over anything," stressed one, as another claimed that quotas in sports teams don't "make much sense" and "should be based on skill".

The inconsistency in their opinions was justified through arguments that sports are "different" than general admissions and hiring.

The students were then presented with what would happen if a diversity quota, based on the University of Florida's own demographics, influenced the Gators’ starting offense and left it without the majority of its current starters while only one black star would remain.

Such a conundrum saw some interviewees questioning the logic that resulted in their initial backing for diversity quotas with one saying: "We’d probably be losing because we recruit based on skill and if we recruited based on diversity we’d probably be worse."

They were asked if their minds had been changed on diversity quotas "in other sectors like the work place, like college admissions", and conceded that the comparison was "a good way to open your eyes" and "admit students based on their scores and their academic merit more so than diversity".

"I don’t necessarily think quotas are the way to go. I know they’re unconstitutional. I know they’re wrong," remarked another participant.

The comments on the YouTube video numbered more than 3,600, with one popular remark reading: "This is priceless. They don’t even realize their hypocrisy until pointed out."

"The reality is that conversations like these may be the very first time anyone on campus has engaged these students in a simple critical thinking exercise about their beliefs," said another person.

"That illustrates how politically monolithic campuses are these days. Campuses are often ideological bubbles surrounded by reality."

‘Feminist’ bookstore SLATED for ‘sexist’ decision to remove books

by bestselling ‘female’ author who turned out to be three men

A Spanish bookstore that only stocks works by women authors has come under fire over “sexism” and “censorship” for deshelving novels by Carmen Mola – after it emerged that the name was a pseudonym adopted by three male writers.

Over the weekend, the Madrid-based store, named Mujeres & Compania (Women & Company), had posted a TikTok showing the books being packed into a box to be returned to the publisher Penguin Random House. The video, which was widely shared on social media, has sparked furious debate.

It was prompted by the revelation on Friday that Mola, previously described by the publisher as a publicity-shy fortysomething university professor who wrote acclaimed crime thrillers in her spare time, was a front used for years by television script writers Agustin Martinez, Jorge Diaz, and Antonio Mercero.

The trio revealed their identity while accepting the 2021 Planeta Award and a cheque for €1 million ($1.16 million) at the 70th edition of the high-profile literary awards last week. During an interview with El Pais newspaper, Mercero said that they “didn’t hide behind a woman, we hid behind a name.”

However, the revelation rocked Spain’s literary world and drew anger from several influential personalities, including Beatriz Gimeno – former director of equality watchdog Women’s Institute – who branded the men as “scammers” who used the “false profile” to hoodwink “readers and journalists.”

Using the #CarmenMola hashtag, the bookstore posted the video as its “contribution” to the scandal on Saturday with an accompanying caption using a pun on the Spanish slang word ‘Mola’ (meaning cool) to say it was “more cool that men do not occupy it all”.

The store, which describes itself on Twitter as “feminist and non-sexist,” also mentioned in the video that, in 2018 – the year in which Mola’s bestselling book ‘La Novia Gitana’ (The Gypsy Bride) hit the shelves – “only 32% of the books published were written by women.”

However, the majority of Spanish social media users criticized the decision to remove Mola’s books as evidence of the store’s “sexism,” since it had not “judged the works on literary merit.” Many termed it “censorship” – with a number of people comparing the act to “book burning.”

“If a bookstore sells only men’s books, you would criticize it as much as possible saying that they are macho, that women are not given the option of being a writer, etc. That is not equality and it is one thing that you should be clear about,” one user tweeted.

Several commenters said the store owners had been “blinded by ideology,” with one person claiming they had “confused feminism with hembrism” – apparently referring to the theory that legitimizes contempt and attacks on men because of their sex. Another person described the act as “machismo with skirts.”

Others came out in defense of the store, with some users noting that it was its right as a private company to decide which books to stock.

In response to the backlash – described by the store as “patriarchal violence” that was “inevitable” after its “political decision” – the owners then tweeted on Sunday that it had decided to “block trolls” and take some “time offline” for the “self-care” of the shop and its customers.

War on Christianity - In the Heart of America's Bible Belt

The LGBTQ lobby has overtaken Austin's School Board and are
destroying the next generation of Christians
Todd Starnes

The sex and gender revolutionaries have officially taken over the Austin Independent School District without firing a single shot.

In spite of overwhelming opposition from parents and pastors, the district’s trustees voted early Tuesday morning to implement a pornographic sex education policy that includes instruction on anal sex and how to place a condom on an erect penis.

The father of a fifth grader demanded to know who gave the school district the right to teach his child how to have anal and oral sex.

“Who gave you the right, Austin ISD? You have overstepped,” the rightfully frustrated dad said.

The radical sex education policy will provide graphic instruction on gender identity and mandated support of the LGBT movement.

Students in grade school and middle school will also be taught how to get an abortion or obtain birth control pills without parental permission or consent.

The school district will also begin instructing students to no longer use words like “mother” or “father.”

“Use gender inclusive language,” the district’s material mandates. “It is important to avoid terms which refer to only ‘male’ or ‘female’ identities when speaking with young children as this can limit their understanding of gender into binaries and can exclude children who may not identify within these identities.”

The district’s curriculum recommends “integrating” words like parents or guardians instead mom or dad.

Texas Values, one of the state’s leading family advocacy groups, warned that the Austin ISD was sending a message that people of faith are no longer welcome in the school district.

“Austin ISD has broken the sacred trust between school and parent,” Texas Values spokesman David Walls said in a statement. “Austin parents have no reason to entrust their children to a school district that welcomes sex criminals and sexually explicit materials in the school.”

Understand, their purpose here is not to protect LGBTQ kids from discrimination, that's the flag they wave, but the real thrust here is to turn the next generation against their parent's values and faith. They are attacking God; promoting sodomy for which God wreaked a terrible judgment upon 4 cities in the Jordan Valley. They are tempting God to bring His judgement on America.

To force this kind of pornography on school children is nothing more than government-sanctioned child abuse. The district’s policy is all about grooming children for sex.

As one parent declared, “The curriculum is an attack on Christianity and family and on parental rights.”

More than 100 citizens spoke at Monday night’s district meeting and the overwhelming majority were opposed to the policy.

Those speaking on behalf of the plan included a nine-year-old child, a fourth-grader, the parent of a transgender second grader, a lady who identified by the pronoun “they/them” and some gal wearing a t-shirt that read, “I met God. They’re queer, y’all.”

But I knew the fix was in before the debate even commenced. A good many of the district trustees had already planted LGBT and Transgender flags on their desks.

Sadly, the sex and gender revolutionaries have already commandeered a number of public schools around the nation. Instead of teaching our kids math and science they are trying to convince little boys that they are really little girls.

I write about this stealth attack on our children in my new book, “Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation.”

There’s really no polite way to say this, folks. But if freedom-loving, church-going patriots do not reclaim our public schools – we will lose the Republic.

Alberta Court Hears That Children Were Taken Out of School by “Facilitators” to Gay-Straight Conferences Without Parental Knowledge

Sex Education in Alberta schools is run by the far-left, determined to bring about cultural suicide. British Columbia is no better off. Sex-ed must be rescued from the hands of anti-family extremists.
By Jonathon Van Maren

This will come as no surprise to anyone, but as Alberta’s religious schools battle it out with the NDP government over Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs and the government’s demand that parents not be told of their children’s activities at schools, it turns out that the government is again lying to parents and to the public. Licia Corbella has been doing a magnificent job of covering this story for the Calgary Herald, and on December 4 noted that there were some “shocking revelations” on Monday at the Alberta Court of Appeal:

Jay Cameron, a lawyer with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) and the appellant in this case, revealed evidence that shows children in one GSA were taken off school grounds by an adult “facilitator” who is not a staff member at the school and doesn’t even have children attending the school. The facilitator took children to the facilitator’s home and to other schools with GSAs, driving them in a personal vehicle without the parents’ consent or knowledge. As is mandated under the Alberta government’s Bill 24, it is against the law to inform parents of their child’s involvement in a GSA.

You don’t have to be an applicant in this case to be alarmed by such revelations.

The JCCF is appealing a ruling by Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Johanna Kubik, who ruled on June 27 against granting an interim injunction that would have stayed sections of the school act prohibiting principals from using their discretion to tell parents about their child attending a GSA. They also sought to prohibit Alberta’s Minister of Education, David Eggen, from defunding or de-accrediting schools for non-compliance with GSA legislation.

Cameron also told the three Appeal Court Justices — Chair Frederica Schutz, Bruce McDonald and Dawn Pentelechuk — that in another case, a 13-year-old boy who was a member of a GSA was taken off school grounds to a GSA conference.

The boy was told that “his mother would not know if he attended a GSA conference and miss all of his classes,” said Cameron, who is representing 26 religious schools, including Christian, Sikh and Jewish schools, that object to the secrecy provisions of GSA legislation, arguing that it violates two sections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms — Section 7, which only permits interference with a parent’s role after due process, on a case-by-case basis, and Section 2, the fundamental right to freedom of religion.

Cameron pointed out that at the off-site GSA conference, the boy said he “watched a demonstration on how to put a condom on a banana; he was given materials with a space ship shaped like a giant penis with a caption “explore your anus”; (and), he was given a 50-page flip book with step-by-step instructions on how to have sex, with what appears to be an older individual,” Cameron told the court packed with about 60 people inside the room and another 60 outside, where the proceedings could be followed on a screen.

Court heard the boy was also given 153 condoms. Cameron said the boy did not learn about sexually transmitted infections at the conference but had to learn that information from his mother once she found the graphic materials in his room.

The Crown objected to that evidence being considered in the appeal. Later, Crown attorney Kristan McLeod told the court that parents are supposed to be told when their children are taken off school grounds. And therein lies the rub of this legislation. There are no controls over what materials are provided and by whom or even whether kids can leave the school without parental consent.

“It is our respectful submission that young children should not be provided with graphic flip books on how to have sex; there is a line between where that is appropriate and where it is not and right now there are no parameters,” Cameron added.

He pointed out that parents need not be religious to believe “it’s wisest not to have sex at an early age with multiple partners” and that the GSA legislation, as it stands, jeopardizes the safety of Alberta’s children, especially the most vulnerable, and undermines parents’ ability to support and protect their own children.

All of the justices repeatedly asked questions of the Crown about Eggen threatening schools with having their funding and accreditation removed, if they don’t comply with Bill 24.

Justice Kubik had ruled back in June that there was no evidence that a school’s funding or accreditation was at risk. Clearly, now it is. One of the intervenors in the case, lawyer Brendan MacArthur-Stevens, made many compelling points from the opposite point of view.

“Many students will have joined GSAs over the past year in reliance on the enhanced privacy protections the legislation provides,” he said on behalf of the Calgary Sexual Health Centre.

“Pulling the rug out from under these students and temporarily stripping these enhanced privacy protections away . . . would be grossly unfair to this vulnerable population,” he argued.

In other words, those who are advocating for a system in which children can be pulled out of classes, without the knowledge of their parents, and taken to conferences with sexually explicit materials and even instructions, are arguing that it would be unfair to those kids for parents to informed in case those parents might disagree with such goings-on. Additionally, the government is saying in court that parents should be informed if children are taken off school grounds, but it is their own legislation that has ensured parents are not told. And then there is simply the fact that that an adult “facilitator” of a Gay-Straight Alliance Club is taking kids out of school without their parent’s knowledge and at one point took a child to his or her home. That is appalling.

If such a child is sexually abused at a 'facilitator's' home, the lawsuit would be spectacular! I can't imagine a scenario where the school, the Dept of Education, and the Minister of Education would be more liable for enabling child sex abuse of its students to occur.

Corbella followed up with a report on December 5, noting that teachers and principals who attended the Alberta Court of Appeal hearing are pointing out that the government is giving “inaccurate” information in court about how Gay-Straight alliances are governed. Alberta’s NDP government, she wrote, appears to be providing conflicting information:

During the hearing, Crown attorney Kristan McLeod told the three justices that the only thing schools are not allowed to share with parents is who is attending a GSA — a club that must be established at a school should a student request one.

“There is not secrecy around the establishment of GSAs,” McLeod told justices Frederica Schutz, Bruce McDonald and Dawn Pentelechuk in a courtroom packed with about 60 people inside and another 60 watching proceedings outside the courtroom.

“Parents are allowed to find out about which activities their GSAs are engaging in,” said McLeod. “Schools and teachers are allowed to control what those activities are. There needs to be parental notification about any off-school activities, whether there needs to be vetting of any materials being distributed, what the activities are. The only thing that is not allowed to be disclosed is whether or not a child is attending a GSA.”

That, however, is not what the legislation says, it is not what the Alberta government said in response to a question on the issue Tuesday, it is not what government documents — particularly what has been dubbed the Rainbow Reprimand — state, it’s not what Education Minister David Eggen has repeatedly said and it runs counter to evidence provided to the court on Monday and by numerous teachers and principals.

Section 16.1(1) of the School Act states that if a student asks to set up a GSA, the principal of the school “shall immediately” grant permission and “is responsible for ensuring that notification, if any, respecting a voluntary student organization or an activity referred to in subsection (1) is limited to the fact of the establishment of the organization or the holding of the activity.”

“There’s a flaw in the law,” said Jay Cameron, a lawyer with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, which is representing the 26 schools in the appeal. “What’s happening on the ground is that the legislation restricts the information parents are told about their children. Principals can’t tell parents that their kids are attending a GSA conference off of school grounds without informing the parents that their child is attending a GSA.”

In the colour-coded government document sent to schools whose safe and caring policies do not comply with Bill 24, on Page 5 (just one of numerous examples) the government highlighted in green a school policy that reads: “Planning of events (including invitation of outside speakers) and notification about activities to be undertaken will be in accordance with the usual practices and responsibilities of the school.” (The bolded portion was highlighted to be removed.)

…Two teachers from a central Alberta Christian school told Postmedia on Tuesday that a “field services manager” who was working with them in an effort to help their school become compliant with Bill 24 told them that the information the school can share with a parent is “limited to the fact of the establishment” of the GSA. Postmedia heard a recording of the conversation.

Only in the case of a student being in dire risk of harm could any information be shared with parents, the field services manager said during an almost two-hour telephone conversation that was taped in July. If a teacher or principal defies this legislation, they can have their certification to teach stripped.

When asked to clarify what can or can’t be divulged under Bill 24, a spokesperson with Alberta Education wrote Tuesday: “All the information you’re looking for can be found here: https://education.alberta.ca/gay-straight-alliances/what-is-a-gsa/.”

The pertinent sentence states: “Clarifying that parental notification around courses of study, educational programs or instructional materials does not apply to student organizations or activities, including GSAs and QSAs.”

“There are no exceptions to the requirement that principals restrict info from parents, except that a club has been established in the school. That’s it,” confirmed Cameron.

If what the Crown attorney said was actually the case, Cameron says, there would be no need for his clients’ legal challenge.

It is significant that the Crown attorney is misrepresenting the government’s policies and their practice in court: It indicates that the government has perhaps realized that the results of their policies are indefensible. Which Albertan parent is going to be comfortable discovering that their child was taken off school grounds without their knowledge or permission (which is apparently not needed) by a stranger who is not employed by the school and taken to that person’s house, or to a sex conference in which pornographic instructions on different sex acts are given? Which parent is going to believe that they should be specifically and explicitly cut out of the information loop when decisions about their child’s wellbeing and sexual education are at stake?

The NDP government will probably try to write off the instances provided by JCCF as aberrations, but the truth is that they are the logical consequence—if not the intended consequence—of Bill 24. Education Minister David Eggen and his ideological cronies want children to be given the sort of sex education they see fit, and they do not want any interference from the parents. They are giving children sexual information, and in some instances even pornographic material and sexual instructions, under the guise of protecting children from their parents. They are gaslighting Albertan parents, and they must be stopped at all costs.
