Fifty children escape after mass school kidnapping in Nigeria

More than 300 students were seized in an armed raid on St. Mary’s Catholic School on Friday, surpassing the 2014 Boko Haram Chibok abduction

At least 50 of the more than 300 children abducted from a Catholic School in north-central Nigeria on Friday have escaped their captors, according to a Christian association in the West African country.

The pupils, aged between 10 and 18, fled between Friday and Saturday and have reunited with their families, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said in a statement on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Nigerian police reported that armed bandits invaded St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State, at about 2:00am local time on Friday and kidnapped “a yet to be ascertained number of students from the school’s hostel.” 

CAN, however, said the gunmen seized 315 people in total, including 303 students and 12 teachers. According to the association, 253 of the pupils and all 12 staff members remain in captivity.

“Currently, aside the 50 pupils that escaped and have returned home, we have 141 pupils who were not carried away,” Niger State CAN chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, said in a statement on Sunday. Police said a joint military-led search and rescue operation is under way.

The latest abduction surpasses the 276 students taken in the 2014 Chibok school raid by Boko Haram and comes amid a string of attacks on schools and churches.

Days earlier, 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from a boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State, in an assault that left two staff members dead. Last week, two people were killed when gunmen attacked the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku town, Kwara State. Local officials said 38 churchgoers abducted in that raid were rescued on Sunday.

The government has ordered schools in the affected areas to temporarily close.

The attacks follow claims by US politicians that Islamic insurgents are targeting Christians in Nigeria, with President Donald Trump threatening to authorize a military operation if the country fails to protect Christian communities. Nigeria’s government has rejected the framing of religious genocide and insists violence affects citizens of all faiths.

On Sunday, Pope Leo XIV voiced “deep sorrow” over the abductions and demanded that “the hostages be released immediately,” urging authorities to act “appropriately and swiftly” to secure their freedom.

Since January, al-Shabaab terrorists in Mozambique’s northern Cabo Delgado Province have abducted at least 120 boys and girls, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

HRW tracked a series of al-Shabaab attacks on the villages of Mumu, Chibau, Ntotwe and Magaia between January and May 2025. Of the 120 children reported kidnapped, only six have been released. Those remaining captive are believed to be facing grueling forced labor (such as lifting and transporting stolen goods, carrying out agricultural work, etc) and being forced into either marriage or fighting.

Remember, in Islam children can be wedded and bedded as young as 9 years of age, as Aisha was by Mohammed. Slave girls can be bedded at any age. 

Al-Shabaab is linked to the Islamic State (IS), and is a separate entity from the Somalia-based al-Qaeda affiliate of the same name.

There are so many jihad groups in Africa that they have run out of names and have to repeat them.

“When Islamist terror groups attack communities, targeting the most vulnerable – including children and Christians – is a primary objective,” notes Open Doors. “This horrifying pattern is now unfolding in northern Mozambique. The abduction of children is a war crime, and creates lasting, devastating trauma for the whole community.”

The country is number 37 on Open Doors’ World Watch List, which monitors Christian persecution on a global scale.

Mozambique is a majority-Christian country. Its population is around 34.8 million. Around 20 million are estimated to be Christian (57 percent of the entire population) and there are 6.2 million Muslims in the country (17.8 percent.)

The objective of active Islamic groups in Mozambique is to establish an Islamic state. Islamic oppression is thus the most common form of persecution for Christians in Mozambique, due to insurgents.

Islam is a minority religion in Mozambique which mainly centers in the north, where the Islamic insurgency has taken hold. The rise of jihad, particularly in northern regions such as Cabo Delgado, has led to targeted attacks on Christian communities, with churches destroyed, pastors abducted, and lives lost.

In the north of the country, Christians (including children) are murdered for their faith. Christian women are raped, abducted and forcibly married. Muslim converts to Christianity suffer from discrimination and violence.

Since 2017, there have been recurrent attacks against Christians in the north by militants belonging to the IS-affiliated Islamic group, al-Sunnah wa Jama’ah (ASWJ), causing thousands to flee their homes. In addition, ASWJ has called for the removal of Christian symbols, and has attacked houses belonging to Christians in some parts of Cabo Delgado Province.

Over 6,000 have been killed since 2007 by the terror insurgency as they have spread across Mozambique, reports Open Doors. Horrifying incidents involving mass beheadings have occurred, including those of children and a Christian pastor in 2021.

In April 2025, for instance, an attack by Islamic terrorists on the Niassa Special Reserve Conservation Project displaced over 2,000 people and effectively shut down the local economy. Ten park workers were also murdered. Niassa is now under military control; tourism and livelihoods have vanished.

The capability and areas of influence of these militants continue to increase. It is possible that this jihadist violence could expand southwards into neighboring Tanzania and Malawi.

Coalition forces from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Rwanda (together with advisors from other nations) had some success pushing the jihadists back. Nevertheless, in January 2024, a series of coordinated assaults in the Mocímboa da Praia district led to the deaths of ten Christians and the destruction of over 200 homes, including a church.

This violence was part of a broader campaign by the IS (Islamic State) entitled “Kill Them Wherever You Find Them.” This campaign was explicitly aimed at Christians. It was announced by the group’s spokesperson and resulted in widespread violence, with images of the killings and burning properties published in IS’ weekly magazine, Al-Naba.

Throughout 2024, Christian homes and businesses were frequently set on fire, contributing to the ongoing displacement and economic destabilization of Christian communities in the region.

According to the US State Department, in September 2023, an IS-affiliated attack reportedly killed at least 11 Christians; media reports quoted survivors as stating the group separated villagers based on their names before opening fire on those they supposed to be Christians.

International Crisis Group noted:

Mozambique’s northern province, Cabo Delgado, remains embroiled in conflict, largely due to the presence of the Islamic State-affiliated group, ASWJ (ISM). Despite efforts from the SADC and other foreign military forces, the insurgency has not been fully eradicated. The withdrawal of SADC forces (their mandate expired on 15 July 2024) and the recently concluded elections add layers of complexity to Mozambique’s security and political landscape.

Islamic insurgents in the north area are now severely violating the private, family, community and national lives of Christians. Open Doors lists some of those violations:

• In northern areas under the influence of Islamic militants, Christians (especially converts from a Muslim background) must hide their faith or risk being attacked and murdered.
• In the north, where jihadist expansion is occurring, raising children as Christians is dangerous, particularly in areas where government forces have withdrawn. Even within the community and at school, Christians are victims of harassment and discrimination.
• Christian women and girls are under threat of abduction by Islamic insurgents in the north. Often, abductions happen after villages have been raided.
• In Cabo Delgado, Christians who meet together face immense danger, due to the active presence of Islamic militants operating in the region. These groups have intensified their surveillance of religious gatherings, viewing any Christian assembly, whether for worship, Bible study, or prayer, as a provocative act that could lead to violent consequences, such as attacks, kidnappings or even death. Militants frequently target such meetings as part of their campaign to enforce their ideology and suppress any non-Islamic religious expression. Kidnappings are common, with victims either held for ransom, forcibly converted, or subjected to inhumane treatment.
• In the north, many churches and Christian symbols have been vandalized.
• The celebration of Christian weddings and baptisms are extremely challenging in certain parts of Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado. Living in fear, Christians in these areas discreetly carry out their religious practices to avoid drawing attention. Public baptisms, especially for converts, are highly risky as Christians face the threat of attacks if discovered. The targeting of Christians, churches, and church properties has been a documented issue in northern Mozambique for several years and such attacks highlight the hostile environment in which Christians practice their faith, forcing them to carry out fundamental rituals like baptism in secret to safeguard individuals and communities from violence.
• Travel for Christians in Mozambique is highly restricted, particularly in the northern regions where Islamic supremacy poses significant threats. The presence of militant groups creates constant danger, with Christians facing risks of abduction, violence, or persecution.
• Jihadists monitor all church activity in the north, actively disrupting Christian activities and targeting churches as ideological adversaries.
• In Muslim-dominated areas, media coverage frequently reflects a bias against Christians, often downplaying their concerns or portraying their activities in a critical manner.

Common violations affecting Christian women and girls are sexual harassment, rape, and forced marriage. This is attributed to the incursion of Islamic militants. In 2024, there were numerous reports of abductions across areas of the country where jihadists and their cells exert influence. Christian girls were taken as war trophies.

In addition to marriage, girls are also used for forced labor and sexual slavery. The practice of viewing women as domestic slaves and tools of sexuality has fueled the abduction of women by insurgents, who forcibly use them for sex as well as domestic chores. “Over 800 women are said to have been sent to jihadist camps for forced labor or sex,” Open Doors disclosed.

In Muslim-dominated areas such as Cabo Delgado, Christian women and girls are required to comply with the Islamic dress code in all Muslim schools and in communal areas.

Converts from a Muslim background are particularly vulnerable to persecution from within the family sphere. Many Muslim families living in Mozambique force suspected female converts to marry a Muslim man to ensure that they cannot get involved in Christian activities. Objection to these marriages can prove fatal for young women in particular. If already married, converts face the threat of divorce and the loss of custody of their children. They may also be denied their due inheritance.

Furthermore, those Christian men and boys in Mozambique who have been killed in attacks, or who have lost their farmland and properties, have left their families economically challenged. Young boys and men are forcibly recruited into militias. Older men are killed because they are regarded as weak and cannot join the insurgents’ army.

Violent jihadist insurgencies target not only Mozambique, but also many other African nations (both majority-Muslim and majority-Christian), such as Somalia, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Niger, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, and Cameroon.

The violence has caused severe displacements and food shortages, creating significant humanitarian crises. Of 34.5 million displaced people across Sub-Saharan Africa, around 16.2 million are Christians. Those who have been driven from their homes by Islamic terrorists face severe food insecurity, lack of protection and limited governmental or international support.

Why does the international mainstream media pay very little attention to what is happening in those countries? Why do we hear almost nothing in the legacy media regarding these developments that eventually affect not only Africa but the rest of the world as well?

While “activists” in the West tell us to support Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Ayatollah, Christians are being systematically exterminated in Nigeria.

Maybe we can get a Jew to fly down there and throw a rock or something so the world will finally pay attention to what’s happening.

The LGBTQ “ideology” is “being force-fed to Moldovans” by NATO, which has used similar tactics elsewhere in Eastern Europe in the past, Stevan Gajic has told RT.

A professor of comparative politics at the Institute of European Studies in Belgrade, Gajic gave his assessment following a ‘pride’ rally in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, on Sunday, where local police brutally assailed counter-demonstrators.

Speaking to RT, he claimed that the latest events in the former Soviet republic have “nothing to do with LGBT rights per se,” but rather represent an “imposed agenda, which always has a political component.”

“Here LGBT is only a political flag of NATO,” he suggested, surmising that the military bloc’s endgame is to try to “mobilize” Moldovans to fight against Russia. According to the professor, the bloc has prioritized the “fight against Orthodox Christianity” in countries that border Russia or are situated close to it.

Gajic told RT that President Maia Sandu’s government is made up of people who mostly view themselves as bureaucrats, rather than “statesmen” – hence their unquestioning obedience to narratives handed down by the West.

He recalled that scenes similar to the latest events in Moldova have played out in many Eastern European nations in the past couple of decades, all following the same template and being orchestrated by the CIA, the professor claimed.

Gajic also noted that while ‘woke’ ideology has been out of vogue in the US and much of Western Europe for some time now, NATO continues to use the same old tropes in the East of the continent in pursuit of its ulterior objectives.

Even though the LGBTQ rally in central Chisinau on Sunday had not been authorized by the authorities, police did nothing to stop it. However, law enforcement officers’ response to an Orthodox Christian counter-demonstration was markedly different.

Multiple videos said to show the events in the Moldovan capital have been circulating on social media, which depict police officers shoving an Orthodox priest to the ground and forcibly detaining a man holding an infant, among other incidents.

According to Sputnik Moldova, the clashes began after counter-demonstrators tried to breach the police cordons separating them from the LGBTQ rally, with several people reportedly detained in the skirmishes.

The heavy-handed police response to the situation has drawn criticism from the leader of the opposition Revival Party, Natalya Paraska.

The sex and gender revolutionaries have officially taken over the Austin Independent School District without firing a single shot.

In spite of overwhelming opposition from parents and pastors, the district’s trustees voted early Tuesday morning to implement a pornographic sex education policy that includes instruction on anal sex and how to place a condom on an erect penis.

The father of a fifth grader demanded to know who gave the school district the right to teach his child how to have anal and oral sex.

“Who gave you the right, Austin ISD? You have overstepped,” the rightfully frustrated dad said.

The radical sex education policy will provide graphic instruction on gender identity and mandated support of the LGBT movement.

Students in grade school and middle school will also be taught how to get an abortion or obtain birth control pills without parental permission or consent.

The school district will also begin instructing students to no longer use words like “mother” or “father.”

“Use gender inclusive language,” the district’s material mandates. “It is important to avoid terms which refer to only ‘male’ or ‘female’ identities when speaking with young children as this can limit their understanding of gender into binaries and can exclude children who may not identify within these identities.”

The district’s curriculum recommends “integrating” words like parents or guardians instead mom or dad.

Texas Values, one of the state’s leading family advocacy groups, warned that the Austin ISD was sending a message that people of faith are no longer welcome in the school district.

“Austin ISD has broken the sacred trust between school and parent,” Texas Values spokesman David Walls said in a statement. “Austin parents have no reason to entrust their children to a school district that welcomes sex criminals and sexually explicit materials in the school.”

Understand, their purpose here is not to protect LGBTQ kids from discrimination, that's the flag they wave, but the real thrust here is to turn the next generation against their parent's values and faith. They are attacking God; promoting sodomy for which God wreaked a terrible judgment upon 4 cities in the Jordan Valley. They are tempting God to bring His judgement on America.

To force this kind of pornography on school children is nothing more than government-sanctioned child abuse. The district’s policy is all about grooming children for sex.

As one parent declared, “The curriculum is an attack on Christianity and family and on parental rights.”

More than 100 citizens spoke at Monday night’s district meeting and the overwhelming majority were opposed to the policy.

Those speaking on behalf of the plan included a nine-year-old child, a fourth-grader, the parent of a transgender second grader, a lady who identified by the pronoun “they/them” and some gal wearing a t-shirt that read, “I met God. They’re queer, y’all.”

But I knew the fix was in before the debate even commenced. A good many of the district trustees had already planted LGBT and Transgender flags on their desks.

Sadly, the sex and gender revolutionaries have already commandeered a number of public schools around the nation. Instead of teaching our kids math and science they are trying to convince little boys that they are really little girls.

There’s really no polite way to say this, folks. But if freedom-loving, church-going patriots do not reclaim our public schools – we will lose the Republic.

Just one Nigerian schoolgirl is still held by Boko Haram after the extremists released 104 classmates seized in a mass abduction and she "will not be abandoned," President Muhammadu Buhari said Thursday, with no word on five girls still unaccounted for, but who are said to be dead and buried.

The president's statement calls Leah Sharibu "the only Dapchi schoolgirl still in captivity" after the extraordinary release of the girls on Wednesday.

Freed girls and parents have said Sharibu is Christian and still captive "because they want to convert her to Islam."

Or, because she can be used as a slave/sex slave since she is not Muslim.

Rebecca Sharibu told the Associated Press that her 15-year-old daughter refused.

"Her friends said they tried to convince her but she said she will not convert to Islam," the girl's mother says. "Boko Haram said since she will not convert to Islam she should remain behind. That was how they left her."

Leah Sharibu asked her departing Muslim classmates to pray for her.

We should all be praying for this courageous girl with the heart of a martyr!

Buhari's statement said "true followers of Islam all over the world respect the injunction that there is no compulsion in religion." He added that he looked forward to meeting with the girls who were freed.

Except that that is not what the Quran teaches! Consequently, it would appear that 'true followers of Islam' don't believe the Quran.

Also Thursday, the father of one of the five schoolgirls still unaccounted for said he has been told his daughter and others are dead and buried.

Inuwa Garba told The Associated Press that friends of his daughter who were freed told him the 16-year-old died from injuries in the frightened stampede that occurred during the mass abduction in Dapchi a month ago.

"They told me five of the girls died and my daughter, who was among them, was the first to die" the day the girls were seized, Garba said. The survivors told him the bodies were buried in the bush.

"I believe what the girls told me because they were all together and saw what happened," he said.

On Wednesday, one 14-year-old released by the fighters told reporters that five girls had died but did not provide details. One of the freed girls, Khadija Grema, has said a Christian classmate remained captive, while those released are Muslim.

"We were freed because we are Muslim girls and they didn't want us to suffer. That is why they released us," she said.

The freed girls were taken to the capital, Abuja, later Wednesday.

The Boko Haram extremists brought back the girls they had kidnapped from a boarding school, dropping them off with a warning: "Don't ever put your daughters in school again." Boko Haram means "Western education is forbidden" in the Hausa language.

The abductions in Dapchi have evoked painful memories of the tragedy in Chibok, where 276 girls were kidnapped from their boarding school. Nearly four years later, about 100 of them have never returned home. Many had been forced to marry their captors and had children fathered by them.

The Nigerian government denies that it paid a ransom or made a prisoner swap in exchange for the Dapchi girls' freedom. Both of which occurred before the largest release of Chibok schoolgirls last year.

The latest mass abduction is thought to have been carried out by a Boko Haram splinter group aligned with the Islamic State group that has criticized the leader of the main Boko Haram organization for targeting civilians and has focused instead on military and Western targets.

Nigeria's government under Buhari has repeatedly claimed victory over Boko Haram in recent months but the extremists continue to carry out deadly suicide bombings in the north, often using young women who have been abducted and indoctrinated.

The Dapchi mass abduction has caused a fresh round of outrage, especially about the protection of schools in a region where Boko Haram has kidnapped thousands of people over nearly a decade.

The release of the girls came a day after an Amnesty International report accused the Nigerian military of failing to heed several warnings of the imminent attack on Feb. 19 during which the girls were seized. The military has called the report an "outright falsehood."
