India's Supreme Court has refused to legalise same-sex marriage, saying the right to marry is not a fundamental one. This comes five years after the same court decriminalised gay sex. In response to more than 20 petitions filed since last year, the court backed the government's view that changing the institution of marriage was a job for parliament and not the court.

On October 21, the second '1 Million March 4 Children' protest took place in Montreal. Some groups had initially canceled and postponed the event due to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

A significant counter-protest unfolded in front of 600 Fullum Street, the same location where the event was announced. A noticeable police presence was on-site, implementing preventive measures.

During the counter-protest, a man was arrested, although the reason for his arrest remains unknown.

The "1 Million March 4 Children" group gathered once more to voice their discontent regarding the indoctrination of children in schools. They advocated for the elimination of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum, pronouns, gender ideology, and mixed bathrooms in schools.

One woman explained why it was important for her to be present at this demonstration:

My union sent out a message asking for us to show up on that side (counter-protester side), and so I changed my position and said I have to be here because my union is promoting the stuff that I personally take a stance against, and I have to show my support.

She also shared a personal story, saying, "as a child, I would have been a prime target to be transitioned. As a child, I was a tomboy. I had social issues. I didn't have a lot of friends. I played sports. I would have been told if I were a child today that I was a boy. But I am a woman. I am a happily married woman with a daughter."

Another protester said:

They are not of the appropriate age for this kind of material. While children in China or Japan are studying quantum physics, we are pushing our children here in Canada to engage in a confusing subject like the ideologies of identity, sexuality, or inappropriate material for four-year-old kids.

Canada set to legalize suicide assistance for drug addicts

When Canada expands doctor-assisted suicide — or medical assistance in dying (MAID) —  next year to people whose sole condition is that they struggle from severe mental illness, it is looking increasingly likely that the government will also allow people who are addicted to drugs to qualify as well. Many have described this latest dystopian move in Canada’s increasingly expanding MAID regime as eugenics.

Years ago, when our insane Liberal government legalized medically assisted suicide, I predicted that it would be expanded over and over again. This has happened and continues to happen. Sin is progressive and we are certainly seeing that here.

As the government appears to make every effort possible to make it easier for Canadians to get addicted to dangerous drugs and to keep them addicted to drugs, the government is now opening the door to letting them take their own lives at the hands of the state.

We are rapidly descending the slippery slope of doctor-assisted suicide in this country.

Two students were threatened at the Charles-Mongrand high school in Port-de-Bouc (Bouches-du-Rhône) this Tuesday, October 17, BFM Marseille Provence learned from the town hall.

According to the account of the facts reported by the town hall to BFMTV, a man about forty years old accosted young girls in front of the high school at the end of the morning. He had a knife in hand and shouted Allahou Akbar. According to several police sources, the accused man explained that it was a joke before fleeing. At this stage, the individual was not found and no injuries were reported. For their part, the young girls were in the high school.

Is he seriously suggesting that Muslims with knives have a sense of humour? Or, that scaring the Hell out of little girls is somehow funny?

After this report, the lockdown of primary schools was decided at noon. “This lockdown has just been lifted at 2 p.m.,” the city said in a statement. A crisis unit was set up, continues the municipality.

“The Mayor calls upon the people to remain calm, remains completely mobilized and in contact with the police,” said the town hall press release, recalling that “any doubtful behavior can be reported to the police.”

A man was arrested on Thursday October 12, 2023 around 10 a.m. in a street in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). The police were called to the scene, the latter being suspected of having made threatening remarks while shouting. Facts reported by Valeurs Actuelles on X (formerly Twitter), which a police source confirmed to Actu Marseille.

The suspect reportedly shouted that he belonged to Hamas, that he wanted to “rape” women and children and kill “everyone,” our colleagues detail. He was taken into custody after his arrest. The decision to extend his police custody was taken the next day, Friday morning, the Marseille prosecutor’s office informed Actu. The latter also confirmed to the information site the opening of an investigation.

The man’s arrest comes after the outbreak of a war between Israel and Hamas, which he allegedly cited in his threats.

Israel has indicated that it is preparing a ground assault against Hamas, while the attack carried out by the terrorist organization from Saturday October 7 left more than 1,400 dead in the country and more than 2,700 people were killed in Gaza. 

In Marseille, a banned pro-Palestinian demonstration was held in the Old Port last Tuesday and the police issued fines, recalls Actu.

Professor encourages activist to start 'mass movement'

for kids' right to sex work

A Johns Hopkins University professor appeared to advise a self-described sex work activist to create a "mass movement" to promote the idea of children in the sex industry, according to audio recorded by an undercover journalist during the Socialism 2023 conference. 

Karlyn Borysenko, a psychologist and an independent reporter, attended three days of the most prominent socialist conference in the country, which took place in Chicago from Sept. 1 to Sept. 4. The conference hosts socialists and activists throughout the country for discussions on topics including Marxism and strategies for left-wing causes. 

One of the panels titled "The Politics of Childhood" featured Jules Gill-Peterson, a male associate professor at Johns Hopkins University and a scholar of "transgender history" who identifies as female.

Sophie Lewis, the author of Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family, was another speaker on the panel. 

In a statement earlier this month to Campus Reform, Borysenko said that before she began recording, the panel discussed abolishing the age of consent. The reporter also noted that most of the audience appeared accepting of the idea of children having a "right" to solicit sex. 

"Socialists do not believe that children are the 'private property' of their parents," she told Campus Reform. "They believe children are little adults that can make all their own decisions."

Gill-Peterson should study the effects of teaching gender-fluidity in schools. In England, gender dysphoric kids treated at the Tavistock Centre, the only clinic in England increased from 50 in 2009 — typically from males who had suffered gender dysphoria from an early age. By 2020 there were 2,500 referrals, mostly from females who started suffering gender identity issues in their early teens, with a further 4,600 young people on the waiting list.

Attempted suicide rates for transgenders jumped to 150 times normal - 50.8% of girls transitioning to boys attempted suicide. Does that tell you that children are capable of making good decisions regarding themselves, especially when confronted with false and confusing teaching on gender fluidity? 

You should know that the NHS has shut down the Tavistock Centre because of the harm they were doing to children. Three Nordic countries, among the most socialist in the world, also scrapped their gender transitioning on children program, or is it pogrom?

The context of the clip is that there had already been a complete hour-long discussion of liberating children from their parents.

During the panel's question and answer portion, an attendee named Chanel introduced herself as a sex worker activist and said she didn't think she would ask her question if the event was live-streamed. The activist asked whether young people in the sex industry should be considered part of a "children's liberation vision." 

According to the activist, "young people in the sex industry deserve and need rights at minimum actual liberation and justice."

"There's just like a utopia I had never really thought of before because the world feels so separated, and the issue of youth and sex work is so incredibly loaded," she said. 

The activist, at one point, said that her activism includes "working at the intersection of migrants, justice, capitalism, and sex work" and that she would like to see a "liberation" movement for children that includes "highly marginalized kids on the street'" and "people selling sex to survive." 

"Are we just like walking into too much trouble to try to even address that when talking about the rights of children?" Chanel asked. 

Instead of responding to what Gill-Peterson described as "moral panics," the professor questioned what other strategies should be considered for creating "capacities of courage" and "truly a sense of solidarity." 

"If you're part of a project trying to think about the young people's role in the sex industry, one of the ways that you might feel like you're going to be able to lend time and energy to that effort is if it doesn't feel like you could be hung up to dry alone for it, right?" the professor replied. 

"So, a mass movement has a kind of persuasive value," Gill-Peterson continued. 

Johns Hopkins University and Socialism 2023 did not immediately respond to The Christian Post's request for comment. The outlet attempted to reach Jules Gill-Peterson for comment Monday via his work email but received an automatic reply stating that the professor was on leave for the semester.

According to the panel's description, the discussion focused on "the urgent project — and problem — of solidarity across reproductive justice and trans justice movements." The panel takes place amid nationwidedebates about whether states should ban surgeries and the prescription of hormones for minors confused about their sex. 

In a full recording of the panel published on Borysenko's Substack, both panelists can be heard describing social concerns about children as a "moral panic," with Gill-Peterson referring to this as "one of the oldest political playbooks in [the United States]." 

Borysenko previously covered another speech Gill-Peterson gave at Lewis & Clark College as part of a gender studies symposium titled "Transition and Abortion as Vernacular Medicine." During his speech, the professor encouraged the use of do-it-yourself hormones, although he acknowledged that the practice can be "dangerous." 

"DIY is not inherently free from danger or risk, but nothing is in life," he said. "So, I think it's a question of who do we trust more to negotiate and arrange risk and manage risk and danger in a way that we feel good about."

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Court documents show 39-year-old Robert L. Carter, a Houston-based pastor, is in jail for allegedly sexually assaulting a family member hundreds of times over a decade and impregnating her.

The sexual abuse started when the child was 7 years old, according to the documents. Carter is accused of performing sexual acts with the child and making her perform oral sex on him.

Carter is also accused of trying to bribe the child with candy for these sexual acts, which she says she refused.

The court documents allege Carter would force himself on the young girl while other family members were sleeping.

The abuse went on for years, according to the documents. The victim estimates she was sexually assaulted by Carter hundreds of times, (more than 600 times to be more precise) becoming an almost daily occurrence.

The victim said when she turned 12, Carter started to rape her. She told investigators that Carter would stop at an H-E-B store on the way to school and sexually assault her in the back parking lot.

I don't know what church Carter pastored at, but it appears there was not a single person with a gift of discernment there. How can such a monster preach the Gospel of God? And why would anyone listen to him?

Investigators said in the court documents that the victim told them Carter would take her to a church he worked at in Sunnyside to rape her.

When the girl turned 16, she reportedly had Carter's baby. She told investigators he dropped the newborn off at a nearby fire station.

Carter is held on a $100,000 bond in the Harris County Jail.

Son of Texas megachurch pastor ordered to pay woman

Rev. Ralph West II, the son of Rev. Ralph West, founder and senior pastor of The Church Without Walls in Houston, Texas, who most recently led the Eldridge campus of his father’s megachurch, has been ordered to pay $2.45 million to a woman he knowingly infected with herpes after a jury in Harris County found him liable.

After a three-day trial, the jury unanimously found West II liable after only six hours of deliberation for battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and fraudulent concealment of his herpes infection from his unidentified victim whom he met on Facebook and then had unprotected sex with in 2018, according to KPRC.

The $2.45 million verdict included $1.45 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in exemplary/punitive damages, according to Fox 26. The amount is said to be the largest award ever made for a case like this in Texas.

"We truly hope this verdict sends a strong message to people throughout Texas and the United States who are infected with sexually transmitted diseases that they must disclose having the disease before engaging in sexual intercourse with any others,” Shaun Murphy, the plaintiff’s attorney and a partner at the law firm Slovak Baron Empey Murphy & Pinkney, LLP, said in a statement. “It is also important for those who have suffered harm after being infected due to another's negligent or intentional conduct to know they have a legal remedy."

It was unclear Monday whether or not Rev. Ralp West II, who has worked for more than 20 years as a preacher, remained on staff at the church.

The Church Without Walls’ staff online page is currently not displaying any results, and officials did not immediately respond to calls for comment from The Christian Post.

Four days ago, Rev. Ralph West II, was presented in a promotional video for the megachurch’s men’s fellowship.

In his statement to Fox 26, Murphy noted that the verdict was not only the largest award ever made in Texas to a victim of genital herpes infection in Texas, but it was also larger than any award ever made in California or Washington.

“I suspect there are many people who don't know that in every state in the U.S., it is unlawful for a person who knows they have a sexually transmitted disease to communicate the disease to another person through sexual contact or to even have sexual contact with another person unless they have informed their partner that they are infected with a sexually transmitted disease," Murphy explained. "In fact, it is considered fraud to knowingly endanger another person in this way, which exposes the person who transmits the STD to potential civil liability for substantial monetary damages."

This is good, but it should also be considered assault since the victim will never be completely healthy again. Such people should spend time in prison.

The verdict against West comes nearly three years after his father cut ties with the Southern Baptist Convention over a statement from the denomination’s Council of Seminary Presidents denouncing critical race theory and intersectionality as incompatible with their beliefs.

West, who ministers to more than 24,000 families in three locations each week, made the announcement in an op-ed published in the Baptist Standard, calling on the seminary presidents to repent for bringing “division and confusion to the body of Christ” with their statement.

“The statement on critical race theory and intersectionality has soiled that good faith. I cannot maintain my affiliation any longer and therefore am withdrawing from Southwestern Seminary. Nor will I associate with the SBC any longer,” West said.

“What the SBC seminary presidents have done has brought division and confusion to the body of Christ. They must repent and seek reconciliation with those who can properly inform them of the wrong they have done. They must ask the Lord to open their hearts to hear the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and how Jesus’ reign truly should impact our society.”

Hamas has released a disturbing new video showing armed men playing with and clutching kidnapped Israeli children and babies in an apparent attempt to spin a narrative about how the terrorist group is treating captives.

The video features a number of unidentified men wearing fatigues and tactical vests appearing to dote on the young hostages at what appears to be a typical suburban home.

In one segment, the older child, no older than 5, sits in the lap of one of his captors as the terrorist slowly rocks the baby in a carriage, an assault rifle clearly visible on a nearby table.

At one point a different militant cradles the baby in one arm while holding an automatic weapon with the other. All of the adult’s faces are blurred out in the footage.

Near the end of the clip, a man wearing a balaclava and a green headband holds a child in each arm and directly addresses the camera in Arabic.

It’s believed the footage is intended to serve as propaganda, projecting the image that the terrorists are treating their captives well.

When it comes to war crimes, those involving children are considered particularly egregious in the international community.

The UN has identified abducting children in war as one of its six “grave violations” the international organization condemns alongside atrocities like attacks against hospitals or schools and recruiting child soldiers.

Israel began dropping fliers in northern Gaza on Friday, warning the area’s 1.1 million residents to evacuate within the next 24 hours. Hamas has told citizens to ignore the warning.

On Friday, Israel began dropping thousands of fliers in Gaza, imploring citizens to “leave immediately” while Hamas urged residents to disregard the orders.

Israel has directed the massive evacuation of up to 1.1 million Palestinians from the northern Gaza Strip within the next 24 hours ahead of a potential ground invasion targeting Hamas.

Meanwhile, Hamas dismissed the warning, telling citizens to “remain steadfast in your homes,” and to “stand firm in the face of this disgusting psychological war.”

Hamas is believed to have captured at least 150 hostages during Saturday’s surprise attack against Israel and taken them back to Gaza, including an unknown number of Americans.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 1394, a law that would punish web services for “knowingly facilitating, aiding, or abetting commercial sexual exploitation” of children. It’s one of several online regulations that California has passed in recent years, some of which have been challenged as unconstitutional.

Newsom’s office indicated in a press release yesterday that he had signed AB 1394, which passed California’s legislature in late September. The law is set to take effect on January 1, 2025. It adds new rules and liabilities aimed at making social media services crack down on child sexual abuse material, adding punishments for sites that “knowingly” leave reported material online. More broadly, it defines “aiding or abetting” to include “deploy[ing] a system, design, feature, or affordance that is a substantial factor in causing minor users to be victims of commercial sexual exploitation.” Services can limit their risks by conducting regular audits of their systems.

As motivation, the bill text cites whistleblower complaints that Facebook responded inadequately to child abuse on the platform and a 2022 Forbes article alleging that TikTok Live had become a haven for adults to prey on teenage users. Prominent supporters include the child-focused nonprofit Common Sense Media. But like many other online regulations, it raises questions about unintended side effects, including encouraging sites to under-enforce rules to avoid “knowingly” encountering illegal material or over-enforce them and remove innocuous content. Techdirt’s Mike Masnick likened the bill to “a kind of mini-California FOSTA,” referring to the widely criticized federal law that punished web platforms for content advertising sex services.

Tech industry trade associations TechNet and NetChoice raised concerns about the bill, with NetChoice urging Newsom in September to veto it. “Unfortunately, in the legislature’s desire to decrease CSAM online it passed a bill that imposes liability in a manner inconsistent with the First Amendment,” said NetChoice vice president and general counsel Carl Szabo.

Even so, AB 1394 has gotten less attention than a number of other California internet laws. Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) sued in September over AB 587, which requires sites to formulate and post plans for addressing hate speech. And NetChoice, which issued successful challenges to Texas and Florida social media moderation bans, convinced a judge to block the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act as unconstitutional last month. The organization did not immediately confirm to The Verge whether it’s planning a similar challenge to AB 1394.

The acting higher education minister of Afghanistan’s Taliban government, Neda Mohammad Nadim, has recently remarked that despite efforts made by Western countries for gender equality, men and women are “not equal”.

This is the extent of Islamic intellectualism. They can't see that women are superior in some things, men in other things. But it's not that they are unequal, but that they are just different.

Speaking at a meeting at the Baghlan University, Nadim said that there were attempts being made to “demolish” the current system under the pretext of addressing concerns related to women, Afghan-based TOLO News reported.

“The Almighty Allah has distinguished between men and women. A male is the ruler, he has the authority, he must be obeyed, and the woman must accept his world. A woman is not equal to a man; however, they [Western nations] have placed her above a man,” he said at the meeting.

Nadim said that the responsibility of the government is to act with “good behaviour” for the betterment of the people whilst providing security and justice. “This is the responsibility of the Islamic Emirate: to treat the people well,” he added.

Have they asked any women in Afghanistan if they think they are being treated well? Of course not! They probably didn't even invite any women to the meeting on how to treat women better.

India: Minor Hindu girl gang-raped, beheaded in ISIS style;

two Muslims and a minor arrested

While other platform remain indifferent, we have regularly highlighted how Muslims abduct Hindu girls from the streets in Islamic states such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. These girls are demonically raped — in most cases gang-raped — and brutally killed, if they are not forcibly married to one of these rapists. This is not to say that Hindu girls in India are safer from the prying eyes of those Muslim men who share the barbarity of their counterparts in the neighboring countries.

In one of the recent cases, two Muslim men and a minor have been accused of abducting a Hindu child from her house, raping her, beheading her and throwing her body in a local well. Clearly, they were trying to destroy evidence of their heinous act. The bone-chilling incident occurred on Sunday, September 24, in Sikar, Rajasthan. This news has sent shockwaves among locals and Internet users. Local police have arrested two Muslim youths under the charges of rape and the gruesome murder of the 15-year-old girl.

Sikar Superintendent of Police Ali Paris Deshmukh has disclosed that the minor girl, a student of class ten, had gone missing on Sunday, September 26. Police had initiated an investigation based on the missing complaint that was registered by her family. The victim’s family had accused the three Muslim youth of abducting, raping, blackmailing and murdering their daughter. Subsequently, a rape and murder case was registered, and search operations were initiated by the police. It didn’t take long for the police to recover the victim’s mutilated body from a well that was situated right in the middle of the village. 

The girl’s body, beheaded in classic ISIS style after being gang-raped, was a gory and traumatizing sight for everyone who saw it. Police have identified the accused as Sameer (19) and Ghulam (19). Both have been arrested. The third accused, also detained, remains unnamed due to his age; he is a minor. The police have stated that the three are being interrogated, and district officials have assured the grieving family of a fair investigation.

As per reports, an officer has also revealed that local CCTV footage also confirms the involvement of the named suspects in this case. “We have reviewed the CCTV footage installed along the route to the victim’s house. The suspects are seen approaching and leaving the victim’s residence. The identification of the suspects has been confirmed through the CCTV footage. One of the suspects also has an injury in his hand,” he said to the media.

The incident has also resulted in a massive public uproar and triggered several political debates. Opposition leaders in the state have also staged sit-in demonstrations, demanding justice for the victim and her family. The protesters are demanding financial assistance for the family as well.

The political opponents of the state government have slammed the ruling Congress government and questioned Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over the incident. “These gruesome scenes of taking out dead bodies of our daughters from wells after they are raped have now become common in Congress’s Jungle Raj,” remarked BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj.

A similar incident was reported from the state of Madhya Pradesh last week. Taking immediate cognizance of this, the state Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, assured the people of Madhya Pradesh that the culprit would be given the death penalty within two months. This assurance reflects the state’s adherence to IPC section 376DB (punishment for rape of a woman under 12 years of age by one or more persons). People are waiting to see if the Congress government will follow the promptness demonstrated by the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

While different states may have different approaches towards such cases, what remains a constant in some Muslims’ victimization of Hindu women? Hindu women have been the targets of some Muslims since the days of Islamic invasion in India; the atrocities continue, and almost no severe actions from authorities follow in order to check these repeated crimes. This only encourages the miscreants. The numbers are soaring as in an epidemic, and cry out for immediate attention and a permanent solution. Otherwise, the future of young Hindu girls doesn’t auger well.

Lawsuit alleges famous child-trafficking opponent

sexually abused women who posed as his wife

Five women on Monday sued the founder of an anti-child-trafficking group that inspired a popular movie this year, alleging he sexually manipulated, abused and harassed them on overseas trips designed to lure and catch child sex traffickers.

Tim Ballard’s life story and work with Operation Underground Railroad inspired “Sound of Freedom,” a 2023 film popular with conservative moviegoers. He recently resigned from the group amid sexual abuse and harassment allegations he has denied.

Ballard’s prominence as an opponent of child sex trafficking got him invited to the White House under President Donald Trump. Previously a special adviser to Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, Ballard was appointed to a White House anti-human-trafficking board in 2019.

The complaints against Ballard center on a “couple’s ruse” he allegedly engaged in with Operation Underground Railroad women who posed as his wife to fool child sex traffickers into thinking he was a legitimate client, according to the lawsuit filed in Utah state court.

Phone and email messages left with Operation Underground Railroad and Ballard’s representatives were not immediately returned Monday.

The ruse began with Ballard and women in the organization taking cross-country trips to “practice” their “sexual chemistry” with tantric yoga, couple’s massages with escorts and performing lap dances on Ballard, the lawsuit claims.

While promotional materials portrayed the group’s overseas missions as “paramilitary drop-ins to arrest traffickers and rescue children,” they mostly involved “going to strip clubs and massage parlors across the world, after flying first class to get there, and staying at five-star hotels, on boats, and at VRBOs (vacation rentals by owner) across the globe,” the lawsuit alleges.

Several women, meanwhile, were eventually subjected to “coerced sexual contact,” including “several sexual acts with the exception of actual penetration, in various states of undress,” the lawsuit alleges.

Even in private, the lawsuit alleges: “Ballard would claim that he and his female partner had to maintain the appearance of a romantic relationship at all times in case suspicious traffickers might be surveilling them at any moment.”

The women, who filed the lawsuit under pseudonyms, allege Ballard meanwhile used his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and connection to church leaders to persuade them what he was doing was just for the good of children in need of help.

Ballard said a high-ranking church leader, M. Russell Ballard, no relation, gave him special permission to use the couples ruse “as long as there was no sexual intercourse or kissing.” The church in a September statement condemned Tim Ballard for “unauthorized use” of the church leader’s name for personal advantage and “activity regarded as morally unacceptable.”

Tim Ballard claimed a passage in the Book of Mormon justified performing “unconventional” tasks, the lawsuit alleges.

“Ballard would get ketamine treatments and have a scribe come in with him while he would talk to the dead prophet Nephi and issue forth prophecies about Ballard’s greatness and future as a United States senator, president of the United States and ultimately the Mormon prophet to usher in the second coming of Christ,” the lawsuit states.

Days before the church condemned Ballard, Mitt Romney announced he would not seek a second term representing Utah in the U.S. Senate. Ballard, who has said he was considering running for Senate, has blamed political opponents for the recent sexual allegations against him.

This story has been corrected to show that M. Russell Ballard is a high-ranking leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but that he is not president of the entire faith.

Another hero bites the dust, not for doing anything wrong except to make an unfortunate statement in favour of an old friend who had done something wrong. Social media does not allow for errors in judgment anymore.

Ashton Kutcher resigns from anti-child-sex-abuse board

Ashton Kutcher is stepping down as chairman of the board of an anti-child-sex-abuse organization he co-founded, called Thorn, as he continues to face fallout and outrage for supporting rapist Danny Masterson.

TIME magazine reports that his wife, Mila Kunis, is also stepping down in her role as an observer on Thorn’s board.

“Victims of sexual abuse have been historically silenced and the character statement I submitted is yet another painful instance of questioning victims who are brave enough to share their experiences,” Kutcher wrote in a letter dated Thursday to Thorn’s board, which was shared on Thorn’s website as well as with TIME.

“After my wife and I spent several days of listening, personal reflection, learning, and conversations with survivors and the employees and leadership at Thorn, I have determined the responsible thing for me to do is resign as Chairman of the Board, effectively immediately,” Kutcher wrote. “I cannot allow my error in judgment to distract from our efforts and the children we serve.”

Kutcher and Kunis made headlines late last week when it was revealed they wrote letters of support for Masterson, asking the presiding judge for leniency while determining sentencing for Masterson, who was found guilty of two counts of rape.

The co-stars, who are now married, were once main characters on That ’70s Show alongside Masterson. Their letters vouched for Masterson’s “exceptional character.”

“I do not believe he is an ongoing harm to society,” Kutcher wrote, while Kunis described Masterson as an “outstanding role model and friend.”

Outrage over the letters ensued, prompting the couple to share a video to Instagram Sunday where Kutcher explained that Masterson’s family had asked them to write character letters detailing “the person that we knew for 25 years so that the judge could take that into full consideration relative to the sentencing.”

“The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling,” Kunis said.

The couple were just two of a reported 50 people who wrote letters of support to Judge Charlaine Olmeda.

However, the letters didn’t appear to do much to sway the judge’s mind, and Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life behind bars.

And while Kunis and Kutcher have both been subject to much scorn and vitriol – including very public draggings from several fellow celebrities – Kutcher’s come under additional scrutiny for his advocacy in the anti-child-sex-trafficking space.

“The mission must always be the priority and I want to offer my heartfelt apology to all victims of sexual violence and everyone at Thorn who I hurt by what I did,” Kutcher wrote to Thorn’s board. “And to the broader advocacy community, I am deeply sorry. I remain proud of what we have accomplished in the past decade and will continue to support Thorn’s work. Thank you for your tireless advocacy and dedication to this cause.”

Thorn was founded in 2009 by Kutcher and his then-wife, Demi Moore, under the name DNA Foundation. Thorn develops tools and technology to help tech companies remove child sex abuse material from online spaces, as well as assist law enforcement in identifying victims.

“Ashton founded Thorn over a decade ago with one goal in mind: to protect children from sexual abuse and give them the childhood they deserve,” Suzanne Bell, a board member at Thorn, said in a statement.

“His unwavering dedication and commitment to Thorn throughout its journey have enabled the organization to become the leader that it is in the child safety ecosystem. It has been my privilege to join him on this mission.”
