Utah Man Arrested for Rape, Sodomy, and Lewdness with 5 Year Old Girl
PLEASANT GROVE -- A 61-year-old man was arrested Monday for child sex abuse after police spent several months searching for him.
Pleasant Grove police said detectives have been investigating John Woodall since June but were unable to locate him until recently. Police took him into custody Monday on suspicion of three counts of rape of a child, 12 counts of sodomy on a child and seven counts of lewdness involving a child.
Police reported during the investigation Woodall was hard to find and family members did not know where he was. He also allegedly refused to tell family members his location.
Detectives began their investigation in the middle of June after conducting an interview with a 6-year-old female. Police reported the victim’s disclosure was very complete and included details of what happened to her.
Police reported the alleged crimes took place in 2013 in Pleasant Grove.
Pleasant Grove Police Department Det. Andy Torgerson said he made contact with Woodall two weeks ago and asked him to return to Utah for an interview.
“He didn’t know he was being investigated until we contacted him,” Torgerson said. “We told him to come back two weeks ago and he was interviewed Monday.”
Torgerson was unable to share details of the interview because of the ongoing investigation.
Following the interview, Woodall was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail. His bail has been set at $50,000 cash.
Wyoming Man Sentenced to 19 Years for Child Sex Abuse
A judge sentenced an Evansville, Wyoming man to 19 years in prison Tuesday for sexually abusing teenage boys in the Casper area over the course of seven years.
Tony Lynn Winters, whom police list as originally being from Louisiana, will spend more than a decade on probation after he is released from prison.
Winters, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sex abuse of a minor and one count of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor on April 29. He entered an Alford plea, meaning he does not admit to the crimes though he acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to convince a potential jury he is guilty.
Winters was originally charged with 11 sex crimes against three victims, all boys who were 14 or 15 at the time of the abuse.
One person interviewed by Casper police during their investigation said Winters hosted parties with the underage boys and supplied them alcohol before taking advantage of some of them. The incidents took place from December 2007 to 2011.
Police also said they found hundreds of images of child pornography and videos on Winters’ computer.
Natrona County Assistant District Attorney Joshua Stensaas said during the sentencing Winters had engaged in “appalling manipulation of teenage boys.”
Winters told Natrona County District Court Judge Thomas Sullins, “I want to put this behind me and move on with my life.”
Sullins sentenced Winters to 14 to 19 years in the penitentiary for one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
Winters received two suspended sentences for the other charges, one for 15 to 20 years for second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one for 13 to 15 years for third-degree sexual abuse of a minor. In place of the suspended sentences, Winters will be on supervised probation for 12 years following his release from prison.
Sullins also ordered Winters undergo a psychosexual evaluation and counseling. Winters will be allowed to use only electronic devices approved by the court during his probation.
