Texan Gets 70 Years w/o Parole in 2 Child Sex Abuse Cases

By Rebecca Elliott | March 16, 2015

Samuel Hopkins
A Richmond, Texas man has pleaded guilty in two child sex abuse cases and has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for each offense, authorities said Monday.

Curious! Usually guilty pleas come as a result of plea bargaining these days. If this was a deal, it wasn't a very good one for Hopkins. Not that I'm empathetic, I happy he is off the streets for the rest of his life and his victims no longer need to fear having to face him again, ever.

Samuel Hopkins's convictions Friday came two years after the 35-year-old was indicted for continuous sexual abuse of a young child and aggravated sexual assault of a child under age 6, court records show. Hopkins will not be eligible for parole.

God bless Judge Hawkins who sentenced him. You are my hero for today. No concurrent sentencing! It's so good to know that some judges actually think of the safety and sanity of the victims of child sex abuse when they sentence pedophiles. I only wish other countries would follow America's lead in this.

"This smart, sweet child was only five years old when she began suffering sexual abuse at the hands of the defendant – a person she should have been able to trust," prosecutor Jill Stotts said in a statement. "She should be proud for being brave enough to tell what was happening to her in order to save other kids from suffering the same abuse."

Associate Judge John Hawkins presided. Defense attorney David Mitcham could not immediately be reached for comment.

Richmond, Texas is a small city of about 12,000 just southwest of Houston and Sugar Land. It was founded nearly 200 years ago.
