GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOOD) When ArtPrize begins, there will be images throughout downtown Grand Rapids that provoke a number of emotions. One work of art and an event on the Blue Bridge aims to bring awareness to the issues of human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
“Unveiling” is a piece by Kalamazoo artist Nichole Riley. It consists of triangular frames that display printed silk panels. Each panel has a person’s written recount of a memory involving childhood sexual assault. The memory only appears after silk is exposed to the sun.
Riley is teaming with Wedgwood Christian Services and their Manasseh Project for a special event to raise awareness. The Blue Candle Prayer Walk will take visitors to the Blue Bridge to see Nichole’s piece and hear her speak.
The walk is on Saturday, September 26. It starts at 7:15 p.m. at LaGrave Christian Reformed Church and ends at 84 Campau with a video and reception, followed by a blue candle lighting and prayer at 8 p.m. The first 300 people receive a t-shirt.
If you are in the Grand Rapids area, please get out on the 26th and support this project with your presence and your prayers. Personal and corporate prayer are needed desperately in this war on our children.
If you are not in the Grand Rapids area, I invite you to pray about child sex abuse using my 3:15 PM prayer model as an example. See 3:15 PM here, or see brief sample above this article.
This is, in my estimation, the greatest scourge mankind has ever inflicted upon itself and I have the numbers to prove it.
